Noodles are gooey and tough. Not impressed so far and sadly it's a brand new restaurant!?

La Trattoria is the only place in like a 25 mile radius (that I know of) that you can get mushroom ravioli. That's what I was going for. I brought my DH and DM along for the ride. Hubby got the filet with veggies and MIL got the baked lasagna. The salads come out first and while the lettuce was fresh tasting, it was just lettuce, what tasted like bagged cheese, croutons, and dressing. For the price of the meal I expected more. Hubby liked his steak and said it was cooked just about perfectly. MIL barely had any meat in her lasagna. The cheese was overflowing but almost no meet. My mushroom ravioli was adequate but the ground up mushroom stuffed inside a thick ravioli was not enough to fully satisfy my craving. I finished with a cannoli but it came out covered in Hershey syrup. It was okay after I wiped what I could of the chocolate off. The bill for 3 people came out to $128 and for me, it was no where near worth that. The food is just mediocre.

My husband and I had the spaghetti dinners and he added a side of meatballs. I ordered a stuffed mushroom as an appetizer and it was one big Portobello cap and it seemed to be stuffed mostly with ricotta. I wasn't a big fan of it it was okay. She also brought us a basket of bread with some dipping oil and herbs. A salad came with our spaghetti dinner, it was just regular iceberg lettuce and a few croutons and cheese. Our spaghetti came out it was nice and hot and we enjoyed it but it was nothing special. I also had a cocktail which was a triple chocolate truffle and yes it was very chocolatey. Everything was fine here but probably not some place we would go back to.

The town square was popping on a Saturday morning so parking was tough, but did not deter us! The restaurant at first glance is small but it is much bigger on the inside with a pretty outside section. My girlfriend got a Spicy Cilantro Margarita to drink. Which was not her favorite drink she has had. Mentioned it was strong alcohol taste so if that's for you then it's great but for her it wasn't her vibe. As for food we got Queso of course which paired with the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was very flavorful with a solid spice level. For our main we went with the Taco Tray. 10 tacos, 2 of whichever 5 you choose and 3 sides. We chose Carne Azada, Birria, Corner (Chorizo & Potato), BBQ Pork and Ensenada (Fried Chicken) tacos along with the side choices of Re-fried beans, Mexican Rice and Spicy Veggies with Quinoa. The tacos also come with cilantro, onion and tomatillo salsa. All 3 sides were nice to pair with all tacos. It was nice to mix and match all the various toppings on the tacos to find the best flavor. Taco Rankings for us were as follows. 1 Birria (Great Flavor overall) 2 Ensenada (Surprise of the meal but a great one) 3 Barbacoa (So much flavor) (Update) 4 Azada (Hard to mess up, great baseline) 5 Al Pastor (Tasty, little lacking on pineapple flavor) (Update) 6 La Paz (Fried Fish) ( My girlfriend loved these, I rank them lower due to texture issues, try them for yourself!!!) (Update) 7 Corner (Dry and Bland alone but with sides and toppings was tasty) 8 BBQ Pork (Pineapple in the meat did not work with anything other than the meat itself.) Overall the service was good despite being very busy it seemed. We will be back to try more tacos and other items. The only items we do not plan to get again are the margarita and the BBQ pork tacos. We will most likely pass on the Corner tacos as well in favor of trying another taco. (Update: Service was faster and better the second time, speed was definitely a product of being busy) Suggestion is Birria and Ensenada tacos are must gets!! (Update: I would add Barbacoa to this suggestion) Update!! We went again the next weekend and got another Tray and the Jalepeños Norteños. We tried the Fried Fish, Barbacoa and Al Pastor tacos. See the above list where the rankings are placed. We also tried the White rice this time around and it didn't disappoint. The Norteños were a miss. Sadly the bacon was not crispy at all and the overwhelming flavor of cigarette was all I could taste. I DO NOT think the cooks are smoking in the back. It is just what I tasted on this item. We will not get them again.

I was worried when we couldn't make any reservations, but we got right in - nobody was waiting, they weren't busy, but they did seem to be scrambling to find a server for us, which I thought was a little odd. After a weird start, the rest of the visit was fantastic - service was great, food was excellent, and we had a lovely time on a date night. Restrooms are on the first floor (an older review says the women's is downstairs in a creepy hallway, but this must have been renovated) and are single-occupancy and unisex, which is an interesting experience depending on who has visited before you -- this was probably the low point of the experience, that restroom could use some upkeep. Not just an unpleasant previous visitor, but structurally. For such a nice place, that part was sketchy. Definitely will be coming back overall.

*This review is specifically based off an event I attended here.*…read more I recently visited for a baby shower, and it was my first visit. Since I don't often travel to this area. RFD is located in the cutest town with lots of old charm, and I learned there are several historic buildings nearby. I actually didn't realize this place was a restaurant until after we left! For the event, they brought in their own food and completely rearranged all the tables and chairs in the main dining room, so I genuinely thought it was just an awesome event hall. I totally recommend this spot if you live near or in this area!

RFD is an interesting stop. First, I have to say that I love the setting. The old post office is…read morereally charming and just has so much character. If nothing else, it's worth stopping in to soak in all the old timey charm and enjoy a piece of Hoosier history. The restaurant function of the space I was a little more iffy on. In concept, I think it's really fun. The antique post office doesn't lend itself to fine dining. And neither did the menu or the staff. But the idea of eating in this unique space is fun. The food, staff, and pricing were all fairly problematic. We got what at best was Olive Garden/Applebees fare at St. Elmo's prices. I say "at best" because I found all the dishes I tried inedible or close to it. I had a Caesar salad, deviled eggs, and the diablo chicken pasta. First, surprisingly, the diablo chicken pasta was spicy! It's rare in Southern Indiana for something labeled spicy to live up to the reputation. But this was Thai-food levels of spicy. Much spicier than Nashville Hot Chicken. This was bring you to Jesus levels of hot sauce. There wasn't much of any chicken in it. So it was just noodles and some kind of sauce that puts Louisiana Hot Sauce to shame. There was a little spattering of parm and some parsley for looks on top. I wasn't offered any additional parm. Had I been prepped for Thai/Indian/Asian levels of spice, I might have been happy with it. But I found it inedible as there was no flavor other than "Ouch!" The caesar salad had no anchovy taste to it, and also lacked any parm. There wasn't even decorative parm. That was weird. It was just romaine lettuce and a watery, Caesar dressing colored mayo sauce with a few croutons. It was at least edible. The deviled eggs were sweeter than skittles. And instead of paprika, they had some type of bbq spice rub liberally sprinkled over them. My mouth wasn't prepared for that and I was so shocked by the flavor that the other people laughed at the unintentional face I made. My son didn't finish his chicken parm either. So I don't think I just lucked out with the wrong choices. My other kid got a steak, and he seemed happy with hit. That might be the one thing to stick to on the menu if you're there. The staff were OK-ish. They had a strange air of being off-put by us, but I'm not sure why. We were friendly, tipped well, and were decently dressed, etc. The manager or owner did come out and ask about the deviled eggs as the eggs went uneaten. I had to admit they weren't to my taste, but I was nice about it. Definitely not somewhere I would try again. But it's an OK stop if you don't mind the prices and are interested in the post office atmosphere.
