We called Nor-Cal to help with issues we were facing with our MyQ app. The APP suddenly stopped working on all our phones and we tried to fix it with instructions from You-Tube and issue could not be fixed. I fixed an appointment with Nor-Cal, whom we have used before for Garage door issues. They promptly despatched the Technician and he was able to fix it. I would say STANLEY - the person who attended was very professional, courteous and isolated the issue step-by-step, explaining the details to me. He has to take assistance from MyQ App support person and had go through reset iterations few times to resolve the issue. Stanley is very knowledgeable person and made sure everything was working properly. We are thinking of putting a new door next year and surely be reaching out to Nor-Cal folks. Just wanted to write a positive review for Bill and his team at Nor-Cal Overhead. I heard about them from members of a neighborhood group that I am a part of when I was searching for recommendations to fix my garage door. My single spring setup snapped as I was closing my garage last night. I called them first thing this morning during normal business hours to see when they could get someone out to fix it for me. They were able to schedule me in for an 11am-1pm time slot. Bill arrived a little early, which was great, and he was done within an hour. Professional, quick, and up-front with pricing. I got my spring replaced and upgraded to a dual spring setup, he swapped out my original rod end bearings, and upgraded all 10 rollers as well to teflon models with built in bushings. Overall very happy with my setup now, and it seems a bit quieter than before. Apparently Bill, the owner, still works a couple days out of the month on the jobs himself so I was lucky and happened to catch him on a day he was working. read more

On Friday night of the holiday weekend (New Year's) my garage door suddenly wasn't opening. This is our primary means to enter/exit our home and I haven't had work/maintenance on it since moving in 17 years ago. I called the local number on Saturday for Nor-Cal Overhead and requested emergency service, I was immediately connected with Bill. He understood my issue quickly and gave me a clear expectation of what the repair likely would require and the associated cost. He ensured I was aware of the incremental costs for the emergency service, so I could make an informed decision. Bill arrived at the scheduled time (same day service) and not only completed the repair, but performed an overall inspection of the door. He walked me through his observations explaining in detail where there were areas of concern and why, and also where things were looking good. I elected to take some of the recommendations for preventative maintenance and he completed that work in the same visit. My door is working great. We spent 5k on a new garage door and waited over 3 months for it to even come in. So far, right after warranty, we have had to have them come fix it no less that 4 times in about the same amount of years. They didn't care that the first problem was literally a month after warranty. It's 250 a pop just to GE them out and then usually "something needs to be replaced" at an additional 250. It's a racket. They wanted to charge us to "talk" on the phone with a technician so we could try to fix ourselves without calling the, and paying their exorbitant prices again. I had a great experience with Bill at Nor-Cal Overhead. My door had a collision, went all askew, and bent a shit ton of hardware. I hit him up on yelp Sunday night and he was at my house Monday morning. It turns out the original installer (me) sucks at installing garage doors. Bill replaced all the parts that got bent up, added parts I should have installed, and tweaked/tightened up things I didn't get quite right. The door is running good now. My door is a little over-sized (18'X10'), I guess technically a "commercial door" with a medium duty commercial opener, but Bill didn't trip. He just fixed it. read more

So I had my torsion springs snap on my garage door over the holiday weekend. I called up Nor Cal Overhead and they recommended I just do it after the holiday rather than paying for an emergency rate for an hour job. Which I truly appreciated because some businesses just would take the money. So I scheduled an appointment for Tuesday late afternoon and the tech called and said he was running a little late but should arrive in an hour. Then I got a call from the main office explaining there was an issue with the prior job ahead of me and they were asking for me to reschedule. Frustrating it was but I understand there are things that happen so I agreed to reschedule. They gave me first priority of appointments and was able to get to me when I was available. They also gave me a discount due to the inconvenience which I appreciated. Vincent arrived on time and got right to it. The job was quick and done with expertise. He gave the full door an inspection and shared everything else looked good and what may need some maintenance in the future. This company is awesome! Let me start off by saying I had somewhat of a unique request. I have a single car garage and wanted to gain as much space as possible so I wanted to replace the garage door and rework the rail so that the garage door goes up through the ceiling and into the attic thus getting rid of the rails and motor gaining much more space. I contacted 2 or 3 other company's that would not even entertain the idea. Then I came across NorCal. I called and spoke to Rebecca who was very helpful. She understood the idea and had me take pics and write out some notes for her to show her Forman. After she relayed the idea to the Forman she set up a inspection with the Forman on site. Forman said it was a go but I had some work to do on my part. I had to cut the hole in the ceiling and install a beam, which I did myself. After that the garage door was ordered, The whole process took a couple Of months but Rebecca kept in touch and gave me multiple updates in between. Once the materials arrived we set a install date, the workers were prompt and on time, very nice and respectful. they got the job done fast and everything worked great. They showed me how everything worked and how to maintain the garage door in the future. I'm very happy with everything, the whole experience has been great. I could not have asked for better service than what I got from Nor Cal. Our garage door decided to stick part-way open at 9 at night. I called Nor Cal and got the owner. He said he would gladly send someone out right then but he was going to have to charge both a 4 hour minimum and overtime - alternatively he could have someone out literally first thing the next morning for regular rates. Since my husband and I could easily wait until morning (we were able to block the opening) we chose that and both could not have been more impressed that the owner did not automatically go with the quick buck. The crew was able to come out first thing, get the door closed, and explain the problem. We hired them on the spot to fix the problems. They came out later in the week, replaced our motor, fixed some other problems and our door is as good as new. I will absolutely use this company again in the future!!!! read more

Nor-Cal sent someone out and he told me that I needed a part to solve my garage door opener problem. He charged $135 to tell me that and then Nor-Cal gave me an estimate that I would have to pay another $135 to have the part installed plus pay for the part. I asked if the $135 I had already paid (to tell me what was wrong) would go toward the work and the owner said no. I was upset especially after I called Lift Master that makes the part and found that Nor-Cal was going to charge me a 100% mark up if they provided the part. I ordered the part from the company and saved twice the cost of the part! I'll have someone more ethical to install the part. read more

Our home has a real old-fashioned heavy wooden garage door that slides rather than rolling up. We learned this summer from a neighbor that Nor-Cal Overhead will work on doors of this type, unlike the vast majority of companies. Our garage door has always been completely manual. We would unlock it and give it a good strong push to open or close. Nor-Cal looked at what it would take to put in an automatic system and gave us a reasonable price for the work. Brandon and Josh then came out and installed it with a heavy-duty mechanism. They worked very nicely without rushing, and made a neat and sturdy-looking installation. Josh even fabricated and installed a heavy custom bracket so the motor can push the door side-to-side. Once installed, I decided that the standard seven foot track did not fully open the door, and they willingly swapped in a longer eight foot track. Everything has worked just fine and quietly since then. Excellent job. read more
