Nora's Restaurant (formerly Mother's Day Family Restaurant) is a nice, open, clean restaurant with quality well priced food. My companion and I both had the broiled cod. It was well prepared with ample portions and sides. The rice pudding for dessert was included in the dinner and was excellent, topped with cinnamon and whipped cream. We could not pass up the array of pies for sale. We chose a piece each of the coconut cream and cookies and cream. The pies were unbelievably good. Service was superb. A young efficient, knowledgable, and customer focused young waitress from Juneau, WI provided a superior customer service experience. A real gem that has reopened under a new name and management, has brought with it a great dining experience for Horicon and the surrounding area.

Pioneer Keg - 1/2 pound grilled cheeseburger with fries (for an upcharge)

I was going to stop at a different restaurant in Lomira for dinner on this particular evening, but…read morethey were unexpectedly closed so I looked at my bookmarks for another option. The Pioneer Keg in Theresa was the closest place that was open in my bookmarks and I knew of at least one menu item I wanted to try, so I pivoted and went there instead. To go, I ordered the brick cheese cheese curds and a 1/2 pound grilled cheeseburger with fries for the side. I opened both containers to take pictures right away and my first reaction was disappointment in how plain and limp the fries looked. To top it off, they were barely salted. This was an upcharge from chips, too, which made me regret paying the extra money. I was excited for the cheese curds, but they also didn't live up to expectations. The breading was, I dare say, chewy with only the very tips where it was dropped into the fryer being crunchy. They ended up being the highlight of the meal, though, which doesn't say much. Other places that sell grilled cheeseburgers have both the top and bottom buns be grilled cheese sandwiches with a burger patty/patties in between the sandwiches. Apparently not at The Pioneer Keg. All "grilled cheeseburger" means to them is the bun should be replaced by pieces of grilled Texas toast. There wasn't a single speck of seasoning or salt on the burger patty and cheddar is not a flavorful cheese to use on a burger, so that was underwhelming to say the least. I give them credit for the meat having a fresh quality to it, but that's not enough to make me want their burgers ever again.

We also tried the prime rib rolls and pickle chips. Actually I thought the pickle chips were the best I have ever had. Also impressed the had bock beer on tap. We will definitely be back soon.

Highly recommend trying when they have food specials. I love coming in the cooler months for the soups, they are SOOOO good. You can sit at the counter or a table/booth. They have good outdoor seating as well during the summer time. The only downside is that there isn't a lot of space inside but it's a small town so it's to be expected. The service is always pretty decent, nothing to note on that! The food on the other hand hasn't ever been my favorite. The Mac and cheese is basically glorified under seasoned Kraft mac and cheese. I tried a burger recently and it had too much ketchup and mustard on it which made it was hard to eat. The cheese curds are okay but aren't very crispy. Overall, everything is pretty overpriced. It costed me over $16 for a chocolate Malt and a small burger with no side or anything in a small town. Overall, it's definitely a fun spot for a sweet treat with friends but if you're looking for a good bite to eat, I would suggest heading 12 minutes away to Johnson Creek and go to Pinecone or to the Diner downtown if it's open.

Weirdest name for a restaurant with some of the best food in town!…read more I've been to Mother's Day Restaurant a few times now, as I frequently travel to this area. What a great place! When you walk in, you are truly walking in to a family diner that oozes of home cooked goodness. Food cooked to order that is delicious every single time. My personal favorite, as I've been there for lunch a few times, is the BLT. Sounds simple, right? I love a good BLT. Simple by design yet some places still manage to screw it up. Not Mother's Day. They got it right on target. Perfectly toasted bread. Crispy crunch salty bacon-y bacon. Crisp fresh lettuce and a perfectly ripe tomato to balance it all out. Can you taste it? I want it.....now! The servers at Mother's Day are about the friendliest group of people you will ever encounter in your life. Guaranteed. Anyone that says any different needs to look in the mirror. Always attentive, friendly and helpful. When you walk in, you'll notice the bakery case. Pastries, cakes, pies....whatever is fresh and in house that day. On my last visit, I noticed the carrot cake in the case. So I asked about it and was assured that it was incredible. Well, good luck cramming down a piece of anything after you finish your meal at Mother's Day. Did you say, to-go? I'm listening.... They sold me on the carrot cake and guaranteed that it was amazing. So, later that evening, I confirmed their words and that carrot cake, was in fact........AMAZING! Would I go back? There's not a lot in this particular area in Horicon, WI. But that's the beauty and the secret of Mother's Day. You don't need anywhere else. You could put 2 or 3 fast food junk chain restaurants all on the same block and I'd never even notice them, fully knowing that there is a gem of a restaurant called Mother's Day just waiting to serve up some delicious home cooked food.
