What a fun place to stay…read more... It's an older roadside motel, but it's been redone completely in a retro 50s theme. It shows on the outside, it shows in the lobby, and it shows in the rooms. The room and the bathroom were very clean, plenty of room, and the bed was very comfortable. There are plenty of plugs and USB ports to charge your gear. There was a Keurig, a refrigerator, and a microwave in the room. There were a couple of small glitches, but they were not a big deal. First of all, the TV got a good picture and a large number of channels, but I wasn't getting any sound from the TV. I don't know if I was doing anything wrong. I would've contacted the lobby, but I had my iPad and my laptop, so I didn't need the TV. I did mention it to the clerk in the morning, and she said she would look into it. Also, the Wi-Fi is a bit slow, there was a tiny bit of buffering when I was watching videos online, but not much. The biggest thing, was that the room was a bit stuffy, and unfortunately, there was no air-conditioning. Again, it wasn't a really big deal. They do have a fan in the room, so I just used the fan, and I opened the bathroom window and my front window a crack, and that gave the room plenty of cross ventilation. I was still very comfortable. There's a continental style breakfast, with coffee, hot cocoa, hot cereal, fruit, muffins, poptarts, etc...... The room was about $150 for one night on a Monday , which is typical for the smaller properties in Astoria in the summertime. Next time I'm in town, I would definitely stay here again. Thanks.

But this place completely changed my perspective - easily the best motel I've stayed at. Really enjoyed our one-night stay here. The room was clean and actually smelled clean and fresh, which immediately made it feel comfortable. The staff were also very nice and welcoming throughout our stay. The only downside is that you can hear pretty much everything going on outside, so if you're a light sleeper I'd definitely recommend bringing ear plugs. Other than that, we had a great experience. Would absolutely stay again and definitely recommend it to others visiting Astoria!

The setting has a classic feel, with antique details like the steel radiator and retro windows. The room is small but clean and full of character. At $350 for two nights, it feels a bit expensive, but it offers a unique experience. There is a shared men's and women's bathroom on each floor, along with two showers. There is no A/C--just a fan in the room. We also noticed a fairly strong dog smell inside the elevator and in the bedroom, even though we like dogs. I was initially worried about noise from upstairs with a family of four (including two kids), but that hasn't been an issue. Most of the noise came from the bar across the street, where groups were loud late into the night. I used the complimentary earplugs for the first time in years of staying at hotels, and they were helpful. I could still hear the noise, and it continued until after 3:10 a.m., when the conversations outside the bar finally died down. On the bright side, the manager and staff are friendly and professional. If you're looking for a historic, classic stay, this is a distinctive option--just be aware of the shared facilities, the pet odor, and the potential for street noise.

TL/DR: crisp, minimalist rooms and amenities with nice, funky, particulars, combined with another outpost of the Broder empire, make this an ideally located, charming, basic place to crash, and our favorite in Astoria. In a very European fashion, the Commodore provides stripped, minimalist rooms, (with some of the best pillows I can recall in a hotel) with excellent social accommodations and a level of charm you won't find in any corporate hotel. Are the hours a little wonky? Yeah. But I had no problem navigating the late check-in, since they contact you and ask if that's what you'll need. There could be more amenities, but this used to be aimed at the digital-nomad-cum-wanderer younger crowd as a part of the defunct Selina organization. Don't know how much of the previous special stuff remains (checking out a projector and having movies in the lobby was awesome) but I will always have a soft spot for this place. Maybe that's because I've never been pampered and never expect to be. The new ownership has opened the restaurant, Broder Strand, with all of the Scandinavian treats, like the Classic 2 egg I had. Edit: So I've been clued in to the ownership saga of the Commodore. It was owned by the Selina Group when I wrote my first review, then when they went under, it was purchased by the person in charge f the Broder (galactic) empire, but has changed hands again. There are differences, and not many of them are good. There appears to be a general erosion in some of the "little things" like what is stocked in the "honor bar" or whatever it is called. Once there was a good variety, now its just granola bars and half-liter Mexican Cokes. The attentiveness to detail (like refilling the extra towel/robe shelf outside the shared shower rooms never happening) and a missing ceiling lamp globe in the shower room, make me think that the folks who currently own it are not quite hoteliers at heart. I took a star off because of that. They have fixed the wifi, so that's nice, and the access to the Broder Strand in the mornings (and Stranded bar in the evenings) makes it a better place, but that is someone else's labor. They really should do more cross-promotion to reinforce the bond because as it stands, I recommend the restaurant more than the hotel. In the interim, between Selina and now, a manager tried to compensate for all of the fallout from Selina's collapse and the broken reservations and lost trust that came with it. Rooms were all freshly painted, new linens and ceiling fans, tightening up some loose spots. A lot of that ground seems to have been lost and the reviews reflect that. That said, the bones are still strong. A quirky joint in a quirky town. We will always come back here. Until we retire here, that is!

We were pleasantly surprised, for a two star hotel this place was really nice. A little small, but exactly what we needed. The provided shampoo & body wash smelled amazing. We had a king size bed, which my boyfriend & I both agreed was very comfortable. The area was very quiet & everything was clean. Although a bit far from haystack rock, it is extremely close to lots of food & shops. Check in & check out was very seamless & we had a great time. Would stay here again the next time we come.

The hotel itself is about a block away from the beach! This was reasonably priced for the stay and the area. The bed is probably the best hotel bed I've stayed in. They offer breakfast, it's pet friendly and you get warm cookies upon check in. The hotel itself was also very clean throughout.

Unfortunately, the rest of the experience felt like paying more than $300 a night to participate in a humidity endurance challenge. There is no air conditioning, and the windows open just enough to remind you that fresh air exists somewhere outside. We had to leave the room door open and crack the windows just to make the room remotely comfortable. At night, our options were: 1. Close everything and slowly become steamed vegetables. 2. Open the windows and listen to the promenade's nightlife until morning. The soundproofing appears to consist mainly of hope. The room was also "surface clean," meaning it looked fine until you started using your eyes. The walls and doors had visible grime, the bathroom caulking was peeling up in several places, and there was some kind of mysterious yellow residue running down the bathroom door. I do not know what it was, and I would like to return to a time when I had never seen it. The fireplace did not work, but it did successfully take up space. The Internet cuts out so frequently it isn't worth it trying to connect to it. The shower curtain seemed morally opposed to keeping water inside the shower. The water temperature offered two settings: arctic research station and lawsuit. The shampoo and conditioner also left my hair feeling like it had been punished for something. The toilet barely flushed. You had to stand there holding the handle and encouraging it like a nervous child at a school recital. "Come on, you can do it. Just a little more." For this price, I did not expect to have to provide emotional support to the plumbing. There also appeared to be possible black mold on the bathroom walls and shower curtain, which really completed the room's 'indoor swamp' aesthetic. The room description advertised a full-size refrigerator in the kitchenette. We spent some time wondering whether the full-size refrigerator was invisible. What we actually received was a mini fridge smaller than the one in my bedroom at home. The room was also advertised as sleeping five people. Where would the fifth person sleep? The bathtub? The nonworking fireplace? Suspended from the ceiling? We only had two people, and even then I would say the room could realistically accommodate a couple with two children or perhaps two couples. Advertising it for five people feels wildly optimistic. Then there was the price. We booked through Expedia for $211 per night and paid the deposit. When we arrived, the hotel charged us $315 per night. When we raised the issue, the response was essentially, "We have nothing to do with that." Apparently the hotel is involved enough with Expedia to accept the reservation, but not involved enough to care when the price suddenly increases by more than $100 per night. Had we known the actual price, we could have booked a much nicer hotel with luxuries such as air conditioning, clean doors, accurate room descriptions, and perhaps even a shower temperature located somewhere between freezing and boiling. I also texted the hotel several times asking for help and received no response. The silence was impressive. We will never stay here again. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and easily the most expensive opportunity I have had to sleep in a hot, humid room while listening to strangers outside.

When we showed up the Desk clerk said that they were sold out and it was because of an Elks convention. Big Doug and found one room that was not taken, but it was not ADA compliant. At this point we had no choice but to take it because we were already there and it was too late to book elsewhere. I had a hard time with this room because it had a step over tub to take a shower, a toilet that was mounted low on the floor that was hard to get up from and the pressure of the shower was a fire hose and was not adjustable. The sinks outside the bathroom to wash your hands. The water got so hot. It burned my hands. I have neuropathy in my hands so for that to happen, it had to be incredibly hot. The microwave door was broken. We put something in it and could not open the door back up. They said maintenance to our room, which I have to say arrived quickly, but he forced the door open and said it had a child block on it. When he left, we tried to open it, and it wouldn't open i again. So are cup of water we were heating stayed with the room. This room was also above the pool. Between the party and the kids screaming in the pool till late at night we could not have our slider door open. It was way too loud. They booked the Elks convention in the two rooms next to us. They were screaming and hollering and partying till 1230 at night finally by 1 AM. People left and we could try to get some sleep. We complained about the noise in the front desk clerk, her name was Jennifer and was a delight, so she found an additional room that we could use because the one that we were in was already booked to somebody else the next day. We moved one floor up, but it was directly above the party. Still noisy, still fleet and was not appreciated one bit. The next day we checked out. I will not stay here again. If Jennifer hadn't been so helpful, we would've demanded our money back. So kudos to her and i to Ebb Tide!

This used to be my go-to in Seaside, (and another hotel in Lincoln City), but not anymore. I have…read morestayed here countless times without issue until my last stay in October 2025. I have always used the same card to reserve my room, and for some reason the desk employee decided it was a good idea to run my card through again and again for a total of SIX times, only to have my bank tag it for fraud. This resulted in me having to call my bank several times, who eventually called Visa, both saying there wasn't a problem with my card or credit limit. The entire time the employee kept stating how he has been doing this for 30 years so it couldn't have been his fault. Not only would he not take responsibility for his recklessness, but he implied this was my fault somehow. This took hours to resolve, back and forth between the bank and the hotel, and I finally, reluctantly, used a different card. It's unnerving to have your credit card tagged for fraud because a desk clerk screwed up. I emailed Frank Hotels after this happened with no reply. Apparently, they don't care if they have an unhappy customer and a rude employee. Normally when there is something brought to management's attention you get a response, not so with this company. Hopefully others will not have the same problem, and as a side note, there are other Frank Hotels along the coast ... so beware.
