Beautiful & Quaint Art Studio In The Heart Of Midtown Sacramento!…read more SITREP Props to art docent Mike for giving my buddy Aaron T. and myself a tour around this lovely gallery. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/red-door-art-studio-sacramento?select=h_NJpiWENh9n7efduhO-jw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE SETUP The Red Door Art Studio ("Red Door") is this sweet quaint gallery in a Victorian at the corner of 20th & L Streets that hosts a lot of beautiful work it exhibits for local artists. FRANKIE VANITY Have seen Frankies art page on Facebook, Aaron and I made a beeline to check out her work which was vibrant and energetic. I am myself quite partial to themes of faeries, mermaids, the fantastic and any multi-medium work that especially features the works of Shakespeare. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/red-door-art-studio-sacramento?select=qmYrMOe0PcQwcwotixCaBA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Frankie has a number of pieces that explores the work of Shakespeare and that is inspired by the sage's considerable body of plays. In addition, Frankie even incorporated the very pages of Shakespearean plays in her artistic work itself. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/red-door-art-studio-sacramento?select=JOECpJi98oLP88kCymxFtg&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w EXHIBITION CLOSES Just to give art fans a heads-up, Frankie's exhibition closes this Friday. THE LOWDOWN A beautiful, fun and spirited gallery in the heart of Midtown.

This community run treasure is always changing with new shows,…read moreclasses, and programs every month. The art ranges from Primitive to Professional , from sculpture, pottery, oils, watercolor and pastel. They have a fully stocked shop of wonderful gift items. I found the greeting cards most appealing and found some awesome art cards for notes. There are classes for everyone, adults, and in the summer , children. If you are challenged by the downtown hassle...this is a respite from the traffic and parking. I like to visit monthly to catch every new show.

June 12, 2026, Friday from 1-4pm I took a Painting with paper class. The Sacramento Fine Arts…read moreCenter is located in Carmichael not exactly near the freeway. It's a tough ride going home as you hit rush hour traffic. The commute time nearly doubles going home. It's a real commitment to come to these classes. When you arrive another class (Open Figure Drawing Studio, no instructor is included in the class) is letting out so depending on how early you arrive there will be more or less parking. They have a private lot and you will always find a parking space even if you have to park on the street. Carol Hawkins teaches a monthly painting with paper class. I also believe she teaches a biweekly acrylic class on Saturdays. If you are interested in any of these classes just contact the Sacramento Fine Arts Center for a schedule. The painting with paper class is $75 (Check or Cash) and includes all the supplies. As you can see from the below picture she draws out the design so you don't start with a complete blank canvas. She walks you step by step on how to complete your painting. I've been attending her class for a few years and really enjoy the classes. I can't always make them as I can't always get the time off from work and due to I work full time I have to take time off to attend the class. These classes are fast paced so you need to be prepared for this. There is no messing around. I've been lucky and have been able to finish all of my paintings in the time limit and sometimes I can even leave with a done painting 30 minutes early. Now it won't be dry in that time limit, but it dries in my car and in my house. Not everyone is so Lucky. I'd be so sad if I weren't able to finish my paining. I definitely am not one to finish a project at home as wouldn't have the needed supplies. She is good at being a timekeeper and gives you count downs as to how much time you have left. She will also go around and help you if you need it. I need the most help when it comes to adding the acrylic parts to the paintings. I'm not the best painters so. I need the extra assistance. I'm more of a fan of the all paper classes where paint isn't involved. Once you get on her mailing list she will send you out reminders about upcoming classes and show you what the project is for that time. She asks for RSVPs around a week or two in advance. By then I usually can tell her if I got the time off work or not. And I should note that it was 102 the day of our last class and the AC was blasting. I always have that concern that their AC won't be working that day and I would have driven all the way out there to be miserable. So far my fear hasn't come true.

So we were more than grateful when he decided to accept our son for one-on-one tutoring. Thomas was behind in his reading skills when he first came to Mr. Summers. He was reading slightly below his grade level. Now, thanks to his tutoring, my son is reading above his grade level. We were also very pleased that Mr. Summers was so understanding and generous with his time. He was always willing to help Thomas finish his assignments, even when Thomas needed a few extra minutes after his time with him ended. Mr. Summers has a unique capacity to understand kids very well. Our son responded so positively to his empathy. We were fortunate to run into Mr. Summers as a teacher and I would highly recommend him to any parent.

Mr. Summers welcomed her into the class right away. He somehow made Zoom school fun and engaging. He recognized that my child was writing above her grade level and called me and had a long conversation about the many ways he could challenge her academically. He is skilled at differentiating teaching to challenge and support students of all learning levels. He paid close attention to my child's social and emotional needs as well. He is very empathetic and kind and gentle with his students, and I would find myself listening in on the class, just because he was so sweet and funny and so very kind. If he was offering tutoring services here in San Francisco, both of my children would be enrolled. I cannot say enough wonderful things about him as a person and as a teacher.

This is basically a Japanese elementary school for children with Japanese parents living in the…read moreSacramento Region. This school does not accept all students and the child must be interviewed and tested before being accepted to the school. There is generally a higher number of students who apply for the school than they can admit. My son has been going here for three years, the classes are on Saturday from 8:30AM - 12:30PM. Its a combination of classroom activities such as reading and writing Japanese, culture, food, exercise, etc. Everything you would experience in a real Japanese elementary school. All the classes are conducted entirely in Japanese, so this is not a place for a student looking to start learning Japanese as a beginner. Every year there is an Undokai event. This is the traditional "sports day" that Japanese elementary schools put on for their students. Undokai consists of a variety of events, such as tug of war, running, scripted movements. Its really difficult to explain Undokai without actually watching it. This event really fosters the Japanese spirit and the closeness of their culture. Tuition is $75 a month, I usually pay about $650 per year. You are required to pay tuition all year even if you plan to be gone for a few months on vacation. This is necessary because the school would not be able to maintain itself if parents stopped paying for a few months because they went to Japan. Parents are required to be helpers at the school and taken on different responsibilities. The parents do not teach classes, but help with administrative duties, setting up events, tearing down events, cleanup, preparing foods, and storing items at their house (such as balls for Undokai). My son loves the school and enjoys seeing all his friends there. I will also be enrolling my daughter this year. If you have children who speak Japanese, this is the school for you in the Sacramento area!
