I have done over ten escape rooms in the Sacramento Valley area and I can say Condemned 2 was one of the best escape rooms I have ever experienced. Another game master actually recommended it to my group and I can now see why. The owner was also amazing and you can tell he enjoys what he does! The puzzles were all thematic and streamlined but were also a challenge. The game master's clues were great and didn't directly point out the answer and still gave us a chance to solve it on our own. My group was genuinely impressed by all the puzzles and we couldn't stop talking about the room the whole 1 hour drive back home. It's worth the drive over to Yuba City and we'll be back to finish the room and to complete their other two rooms as well. Also as a note, I'm an extreme scaredy cat but was still able to get through this room so don't let the serial killer cult theme scare you away. read more

I had such a fun experience here! This was my second escape room and now I'm hooked. The puzzles were hard, but we ended up solving them, so they were the right amount of challenging. The atmosphere was perfectly authentic and led to the overall story. I liked that we weren't hit over the head with clues right as soon as we walked in the door- that we had to think about everything in a bigger picture. The owner was really nice and the actual venue was way cleaner and better kept than the previous venue I went to in Sac. I can't wait to try their other rooms! I've done many escape rooms from Elk Grove, to Sacramento, to Roseville, to Rocklin, and finally this one in Yuba City! I live in Sacramento, but I have to say that the drive to this escape room was totally worth it! NorCal Escape Co. (NEC) is only open Friday-Sunday and at nights open. Tickets can easily be bought online. This is not a private escape room which means if you do not buy all of the tickets in a single game, the chances of you having to work with complete strangers to escape a room increases. So make sure you get a huge group of 10 people to buy tickets all at once to guarantee that your escape team are people you know. My group of 10 blew up into a group of 11. The guys at NEC were nice enough to allow the 11th person to pay in person and join the game even though the room was only meant for 10 players ideally. The ticket prices are awesome! I am used to paying $35 for escape rooms and this one was only $25 per person and that's without any promo codes or Groupon deals! NEC is located in an isolated area off by itself and the parking lot is not well lit. To be quite honest, as a female, I wouldn't have felt safe going there by myself. However, since I had my big group with me, it was all good! The actual waiting room was clean and they sell water and Monster energy drinks. There are lockers against the wall to store your personal items because no cell phones are allowed inside the escape rooms. The guys who own the escape room as well as the hosts were very friendly. Normally, with escape rooms, the game master will explain the rules of the game. However, with NEC, they were very creative and came up with an entertaining video on the rules of the game. Then if you had any additional questions, the game master was more than happy to answer them. My group played Condemned 2 and I must say that I was really impressed with the game! This game was definitely one of the more challenging ones that my group has done. You are allowed 6 clues if you get stuck. We were unsuccessful in escaping, but I thought the room itself was really cool. At the end of the game, we were short on time since another group was playing after us so the game master did not have time to show us the puzzles that still needed to be solved to escape. Overall, the owners definitely put a lot of thought and detail into this game. Normally, after you have done a couple of escape rooms, you kind of have an idea on what to look for, but this escape room had a whole bunch of surprises not found in other escape rooms! I won't spoil anything. You need to definitely check this escape room out! P.S. After the game, the area to take a group picture has a lot of cool props and the lighting is really good compared to the other escape rooms. read more

I've done quite a few escape rooms, and while looking for escape rooms in the Sacramento area, I came across Norcal Escape and their Condemned 2 room. I finally had the chance to experience it, and I am completely blown away by every last detail. The location was somewhat remote, and I'll admit that we had a little trouble finding it. Despite this, the lobby was clean and inviting, and our game masters welcomed us to the game. Our group of two was paired up with a lovely group of four others who made this experience happen (had they not booked, the room would not have reached its minimum of 4 participants to operate). After signing waivers, we watched a very entertaining "do's and don'ts" video followed by a briefing of the backstory: the serial killer from the original Condemned room had been locked away in prison, but a cult formed by his biggest fans has dedicated themselves to continuing (and improving upon) his legacy of locking his victims in life or death puzzles. Because we had six people total, we were divided into two groups of three. One group (consisting of us two and a volunteer from the other group) was locked up in the "West" side of the room, and the other (consisting of the other three) was locked up in the "East" side. Both groups had to solve the puzzles in their room and combine as one to escape the rest of the room. Both sides had different puzzles, but were still connected through a very clever "communication" system. The set design here was impeccable. Every room felt like it belonged in an abandoned warehouse, with ceiling-to-floor decor and detail. The puzzles were also intricately themed to the room, and felt like they were purposefully there to test whether or not you are worthy enough to live. One of the puzzles malfunctioned mid-game, but the game master instantly came into the room, fixed the puzzle, gave us the key, and generously added two minutes to the timer because of it. Condemned 2 has a unique "Ultimate Sacrifice" you can perform near the end of your game to earn everybody 5 extra minutes. I won't give away what the sacrifice is, but it's definitely worth it (we escaped with 4:05 left on the clock because of it). Overall, this room is definitely in my top three. It's worth it to come out to Yuba City and check it out, even if you have to drive for a few hours to do so. Huge thanks to Jamie, Kody, and Chase for the amazing experience! Going through and updating my old reviews at the 125+ room mark. We've gained a lot of experience and now actively travel across the US for the best escape rooms, so the older reviews are a bit outdated. Condemned 2 - 5/5. Condemned 2 has held up surprisingly well over time. The room had a very large and intricate set for serial killer rooms, and the level of puzzle integration with a set of this size was impressive. This is a difficult room that really kicks your butt, but is to this day still a very memorable experience that has edged out the Enchambered rooms as our favorite room in Sacramento. While the Enchambered rooms had better set design, Condemned 2 was just a much better game, and better games generally hold up better over time. Fox Tail Saloon - 3/5 (A decent room). Never wrote a previous review for this, so here's a short one for it. Fox Tail Saloon is more of a light adventure that shows off a fun, wild west saloon set than it is an escape room. The room has a decent amount of puzzles, but they're fairly basic. The set and ambiance were good, but there weren't really enough story moments for me to really remember what happened in the room. Still a reasonable room that definitely accomplishes what it set out to do, just not one that enthusiasts will find particularly interesting. Great for beginners though! Me and my group of 6 went here and it was our second escape room so we did the fox tail saloon and it was a blast we ended up finishing the room the people who run the place are great and made it a awesome time and the co owner had an opening on the other room condemned so he gave us a deal on it and we ran that room as well we didn't do so goood in this room but we will definitely be back to conquer it. Absolutely wonderful. As the other reviews state, the set for the Foxtail Saloon is incredible. I appreciated having one of the employees in the room as the bartender, and being available to give us some tips when necessary (only three though, and I wish we'd gotten one more). I highly recommend. The website said no one under 13 is allowed in, but for this room, there was nothing that would make me want my 7 year old not to participate. OH my goodness - this is one of my favorite escape rooms in the area. So driving up (particularly if it's dark or later in the evening), you may wonder where you're going - but keep a-driving because this place is worth it. If you haven't done a ton of escape rooms, you'll notice a trend that a lot of escape rooms are in industrial park settings - so don't be freaked out. We experienced the Old Western room/salon (I forget the name, but there's NO electronics). I hope that you get to experience with a host in the room - because that just added to the fun experience. We did the room with all of our kiddos. A cyber-high five for having one of the more entertaining intro-videos and safety guide warnings on the creativity scale. All items are well-thought out from the clues, variety of puzzles, the navigation of the room, and the finishing photos with props. They have every item thought of ... keys: communicate your findings to the entire team, if you are worn out and not getting anywhere - let a fresh set of eyes try things. There's also a difference between a private room and sharing room with strangers (which can be a mixed bag depending on who is there - AKA, they share the crayons with their buddies - if you catch my drift). We got darn lucky and shared with the coolest couple and it was a magical night. 5-8 people seem about the sweet spot for this room. We look forward to trying other rooms at this location. My boyfriend and I came here for date night on 3/18/17 to find Billy the Kids hidden treasure. We were 2 with 6 other strangers. We had so much fun working together and we actually found the treasure together! The room we were "locked" in was very well put together. It really did look like an old west saloon with a piano, bar, tables and chairs, fireplace, and a wooden creek floor. We all quickly looked for any and all "clues" and were able to uncover a lot in a small amount of time. Then it was just a matter of making sense of it all. Our group has a lot of energy, interest and fascination with the game. I never thought I would have this much fun in a room full of strangers, working together to solve the mystery. The attention to detail by NorCal Escape Co made this exciting. I can't wait for the next room to be ready. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun night out that is different and unique. So I've done 16 escape rooms so far and was super excited about this one since it was recommended to me by rooms in Sacramento that I liked. We did foxtail and the room was decent, not very intuitive though which I didn't like but no big deal. My main issue was the worker in the room with us. She had an attitude the whole time and ruined the experience for us. She was yawning and mildly rude throughout the whole thing. Her name was Jackie or Joanne or jacklin or something. I thought I was just being sensitive but everyone in my group said the same thing when we left. she made my group feel stupid, which makes me upset since it was my idea to go. I will go back to do the condemned room but I will request that she not be the in room monitor. read more

Highly recommended. I have so many good things to say about my experience at Condemned, and I'm already excited to try it again! It's great for couples, and super imaginative. My group almost made it out of the room, but alas, we ultimately failed. I was only mildly obsessed with figuring out the "answer" on the drive home, but I suppose some things are best left unknown...until next time! For those worried about it being too scary, it's more along the lines of "creepy" than "pop out and make you scream" type scary. The set design is top notch. Having said that, we didn't have much fun because of several issues. I've done about 15 escape rooms, and this is my least favorite. We drove from out of town to participate in this room. I and a friend were matched up with a group of 10, for a total of 12 people. So in any given moment, several people are standing around without anything to do, especially because we only had a few flashlights. Before the game started, an employee said to another employee that our group isn't going to finish the room. That felt insulting. Minor spoiler ahead. There was a lot of searching involved, and the majority of the puzzles were simply finding codes, and entering them into locks. /end spoiler The theme and production quality are amazing, so go for that. But if puzzles are important to you, you can skip this one. read more

Fun team based problem solving in a dark grim setting. I highly recommend. Our group of four joined a six person group and a couple. The twelve of us were so close to completing, it hurt. We wanted to win, of course, but the "we have to be close" intensity made the final minutes all the more frantic and thrilling. The other in the room whispering..."you are all going to die" put a nice little black bow on the experience. The venue has solid production value. A lot of thought went into this escape room. There were many more puzzles to solve than we expected. A solved series of clues would take you to the next big reveal and kept us all highly engaged. There is a bit of help via the person trapped in the room from the last group, the other. They know a few things and can nudge the group a bit, so don't fear you are not alone. Still very very few groups complete the room. That is part of the allure....can you do it? We came out with a lots of hooting and hollering and everyone had a great time. One of those experiences that you replay over and over again in the car on the way home. You must do this! Do not hesitate to make the trip to Marysville. Tips: -The location is a bit hard to find. Check their website and give yourself some extra time. -There are bathrooms, but it takes someone to show you where they are with a key. Not gonna lie, when we first drove up to this place at night it was a little sketchy looking. The parking lot is all the way around a building that is already super dark so we weren't even sure we were in the right place or if we were about to be kidnapped. I brought my best friend here who had never done an escape room before. Of course I chose to do the 5/5 difficulty room on her first attempt which probably wasn't the best idea but hey she's smart. We were put with a group of 5 women who were clearly not 100% sober which wasn't awful but I'm sure it didn't help our lack of escaping the room. Overall it was a fun night and we would definitely come back again. My friend wasn't even sure she'd like going in the first place and now that we've tried it she can't stop thinking about the puzzles we weren't able to crack. We'll definitely be back. Maybe this time we can tackle condemned 2 and make it out. read more

Condemned was a great experience. If you go to the website it will explain what an escape room is. This one had a "kidnapped by a serial killer" theme. I do have to admit I did this one twice only because the friends I did it with were adamant that we were so close to getting out the first time (we really weren't that close) that we would be successful on the second attempt (which we were). It was a fun experience and I felt that the owners did a good job of putting everything together. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that you have to do it in a group of 12. I felt that it left some people out, I think a group of 8 would've been perfect. It's definitely worth the experience. read more

The location is a little hard to find at night but the experience was fantastic. Well ran, properly maintained and an all around fun atmosphere. Everything was far about the expectations we had set, and at 20$ a person for the room we did, it was a better deal than escape rooms in surrounding areas. This was our first time at an escape room and the staff was so helpful and really made us feel like pros! We were a couple of 2 and we completed the room with 2 other couples (6 people total). Everyone ended up working together so we could get out in time. We made it with 5 second!
