Been going here for years before they were at their current location, and to me it's still the best place to get gelato. The portions are generous. If you get a single scoop in a cup you can still do a half-and-half of two flavors for the cup which is a great deal. I personally always get the macadamia nut and pistachio. Never fails. They also do seasonal specials which are always delicious! I like to switch up and get the seasonal specials whenever they have it available. They're pretty good about posting new flavors/items on their bulletin board on the right-hand side when you walk into their establishment. Service has always been very quick and friendly. Ambiance is a take-out and go vibe, but the outdoor seating makes for a very great opportunity to chill out and eat your gelato on their marked tables. read more

Just found out about some changes are made that (IMO) makes no sense. 1. Why does the E-Bar offer acai bowls, but not the gelato bar? 2. Because the gelato bar doesn't offer acai bowls, then there are no fruit toppings. 3. Because acai bowls arent offered here, my friends and I can't buy our usual: two acai and one honey yogurt scoop. 4. They don't offer their famous crackers with a scoop of gelato anymore. Employees are still great and I appreciate the outdoor seating; the employees keep the place clean. I just don't understand why the acai bowls were taken away from here. The employees are friendly and lets you try out as many flavors as you want before deciding what flavors you would like to choose. The inside of the shop is kinda small, there's only enough space to form a line. The space is clean and well kept. The outside of the shop has about 6 or so tables with chairs to enjoy your gelato. The tables are reserved for the customers of the gelato bar. Some tables have umbrellas over them, so we had a bit of shelter when it drizzled. The gelato here is always on par, but the staff is iffy. Sometimes they are the sweetest people, but other times I feel they leave the experience wanting. The last time I went, the inside of the shop or the worker was a bit...stinky. It just smelt bad inside. The actual product is delicious though. Don't let this tiny place fool you they can make everything from a single scoop to a whole açaí bowl. You want your scoop in a bowl, waffle cone or chocolate dipped waffle cone with fruit toppings or just as is the only thing I miss is the piece of wafer they used to give is no longer a thing apparently but I got a double scoop (Pumpkin Cheesecake and Macadamia Nut) and what generous scoops they were I'm impressed so light and creamy it was just delicious!! There are a few seatings outside to conveniently enjoy your treat thought it's usually occupied so I just park on the nearby water feature seating which is just as nice. Knowing you can bougie up your scoops did you know that they can also make it into a float as well...the traditional with soda or "Kona Float" which is made with Cold Brew Coffee woah! They're are the best gelato I've ever had a bit pricey tiny servings but enough for me. When I was a server the owner told us that when serving ice cream water should be served together. I don't quite remember exactly but it helps clear the pallet when eating something cold. The service is excellent and many goes there to enjoy seating there for desserts on the go! Sadly the mall cannot add more chairs I guess for safety reasons I'm not sure. There are times I go there on the go I'm wondering if they had smoothies? Can't believe I haven't tried this place until recently given that I go to Ala Moana Center few times a week lol. It's a tiny shop between Nordstom and Uniglo. Very beautiful decor especially at night. I have tried a few flavors including kona coffee, black sesame, thai iced tea and vanilla. I love the kona coffee and black sesame they were so rich and creamy, not overly sweet. Thai iced tea on the other hand is a little bland and sweeter than the other 2. Some people say it's a bit pricey but it's at Ala Moana and of Nordstrom brand I think it's acceptable. Definitely a good place to rest and recharge before continuing your shopping spree! read more

A very casual space with outdoor seating and tables outside of the shop. We can fit an after dinner at Ruscello treat. Ended up only the kiddies wanted ice cream and the 3 adults passed. The kiddies seemed to enjoy their dessert and it took the perfect amount of time so that I could watch them while their mom and hubs walked back to where the car was parked on the other end of the shopping center. Nordstrom Gelato bar is located just outside of the Nordstrom store's mall level next to Uniqlo at Ala Moana. The gelato and sorbet are made here locally and they also carry some pre-scooped grab and go cups or Kona ice cream bomb (chocolate covered Kona coffee ice cream scoop). The pre-scooped gelato or sorbet were weighed exactly by the ounce, but if you have them scoop for you in a cup or cone, you may benefit of having a bit more. I did order a single scoop in a cup to try the honey yogurt because I heard it was a popular alternative choice for their açaí bowl instead of the popular Acai sorbet. I loved the wafer pieces they added in for decoration in the gelato. I started coming here since I do like their açaí bowl. At first, I've been buying their açaí bowl from the eBar. Here at the gelato bar, you have a choice of mini or regular açaí bowl. Mini açaí bowl was with one scoop! It was just a perfect size for me when I'm craving for a smaller portion! At the time it was only about $6 and it did go up since, but still was reasonable for a scoop with blueberries, bananas, strawberries and granola. The great thing about this gelato bar is you can pick any flavor gelato or sorbet for your açaí bowl. The regular sized açaí bowl was wonderful too. More fruits and granola and the sorbet was firm. Just love Açaí Bowl! Don't forget to get a loyal stamp card! If you're traveling far, be sure to ask for a bag of ice. The manager offered me some loose ice in a plastic bag to keep my gelato from melting as I transported the frozen treats home! Great service and so convenient to get your açaí bowl fix even at night! Gelato was great and the woman working behind the counter was friendly and nice. Let me sample a few flavors and they all tasted great. If I remember correctly it's $6 for one scoop, $7.50 for 2 scoops, or $8.50 for 3 scoops. If you're only getting one scoop, then it's not very good value. If you are ordering two or three scoops, then it's much better value. I wasn't hungry so I only got one scoop so I feel slightly ripped off. On the bright side, purchases count toward my Nordy account. I got the li hing pineapple sorbet and it was good and refreshing. It really tasted just like pineapple with a very small hint of li hing. FYI the flavors listed on the back wall in big writing were fairly different than the actual flavors that they have, so if you're walking by you should actually step into their tiny glass box of shop so you can see what flavors they actually are serving. Surprised there isn't an IL gelato in Ala Moana Mall but honestly this gelato might've been better. I wish they had a larger selection of flavors but overall I was surprised by how good Nordstrom's gelato is, and I would go back whenever I want ice cream and I'm at this mall. read more

The Ala Moana Shopping Center is a really nice place to visit and one of the nicer malls we've seen. Among its highlights is the Nordstrom Gelato Bar. We liked it so much that we kept returning to it every time we went to the mall. With each visit, the staff were super friendly and offered free samples. Special shout out to Hannah who is one of the nicest people we've encountered in the food industry. The menu includes 14 different gelato and 6 different sorbetto flavors. We really liked the kona coffee, macadamia nut, black sesame, and green tea. Seating outdoors is shaded and really nice. Just close your eyes and imagine uneven cobble stone roads, wafts of vanilla and baking bread assaulting your senses and loud people making loud hand gestures... You're either two blocks down from the sea or in the heart of a charming, but seasoned town... It's summer and the heat is unbearable... You see a shop ahead that says "Gelateria" and the contents promise a reprieve from the inferno onslaught... You walk in... IT'S AIR CONDITIONED! And you're greeted with smiling faces! Then you realize that you're not in Rome or Napoli... You're in Nordstrom! But then you taste the gelato and suddenly you're transported back to that foreign daydream and you're grateful that you don't need to pay $2,000 for your ticket to real gelato NOR do you have to pay 2 euros on top of that every time you want to use the public restrooms!! Okay- true and weird tangent- but yeah... 11 years in Italy will make you a gelato snob- even there- so, of course I would be extremely critical of "gelato" claims that businesses make. Don't say you make gelato if you really make ice cream. There's a HUGE difference. Temperature, creaminess, sugar content, etc... Huge HUGE difference. So, when we finally decided to give in and try Nordstrom's Gelateria, I was floored in THE BEST way possible! They serve their gelato at the perfect temperature with unparalleled creaminess and perfect balance of sweetness. Of course, I'm speaking for the more classic flavors like dark chocolate, vanilla and (my personal favorite) sea salted caramel with chocolate shavings. I'm sure if you picked some of their more unique, kid-appealing flavors like birthday cake or whatever, the sugar level could be more intense. Which is fine if you're into that sort of thing. I, personally, wish they had more simple flavor options... They do gelato so well that there's truly no need for so many unusual concoctions... Though, I understand that perhaps for habitual ice-cream consumers, it might be ideal for them to offer such options so as to appeal to that crowd and to set them apart from other frozen creameries. I get it... but still... I would love to see them serve up solid, Italian flavors like mint, nocciola, cinnamon, Nutella, fior di latte, stracciatella, etc. They can do it! And they should! Anyway, my family and I really enjoy coming here for dessert or if (on the rare occasion) my threenager is on good behavior, a treat in place of a gold star. I love how close it is to the parking structure and how easy it is to access it. Directly to the right of Uniqlo and to the left of Nordstrom in Ala Moana and at the bottom of the escalator on the 2nd floor. There are some tables and chairs with umbrellas in addition to pond benches throughout the mall to sit and enjoy your pick. Glad to see Nordstrom still keeping this spot open and it continuing to do well at Ala Moana despite recent economic changes. Their menu lists 18 flavors with portion sizes ranging from single, double or triple scoops, and if you need a little crunch go for the cone (chocolate covered or plain). Single scoops are priced a little under $5 which comes with a little waffle wedge. I opted for the single scoop of the Birthday Cake flavor while my friend got the mint oreo. The waffle was so delicious and really added to the creaminess of the gelato I began to rethink my decision to get a cone. My one gripe i would say would be that it didn't look like my single scoop was a full scoop compared to my friend's mint oreo. For the price you pay it would have been nice to fill up the cup a little more. Overall the gelato was refreshing and i do appreciate they have seating available outside on the tables.
