Pretty much on e stop shopping especially with the Commissary next door as well as the package store and gas station. This NEX is 2 levels. The main floor (ground level) has the food court as well as a Starbucks, a jewelry department, clothing, shoe department, electronics, pet supplies, auto supplies, workout gear, toys, beauty supplies, garden and lawn care. There is also a GNC next to where the snacks and refrigerated items are located. You need to take the elevator (if you have a cart) or the centrally located escalator to the 2nd floor where you will find housewares, bed and bath supplies, mattresses, travel suitcases, appliances, and military issued uniforms. I especially like the garden center in the warmer months. They usually have a good variety available. Parking is ample even when crowded. The value is usually very good unless something is really on sale somewhere else. Using the scratch off is a nice bonus to get at least 5% off. I haven't needed much service besides checking out with my items and they move the line along pretty fast. read more

This is an ok NEX. I liked how big the pet item aisle was. It had all of the dog food that I'd normally purchase at Petco but good $10-$20 cheaper for the 30lb+ bag sizes. Another good thing about this location was the availability of small kitchen appliances. I was happy to find many of the InstantPot and air fryer accessories on sale. They also carry some of the Nostalgia brand items. They had a toaster that came with useful features like defrost setting. As someone who hoards NY bagels in the freezer, feature like that is a god send for busy mornings. Aside from that, I thought the NEX was just ok. The customer service is nonexistent but that's what you get at any BX/PX/NEX type places. The prices are just ok and I can say that most items aren't worth purchasing it from here specifically. However, if you're in the market to purchase higher priced items like MacBook Pros, it'll be a good place to go. They do price matching with competitors AND you can buy it tax-free. Those two combinations can actually save good $200-$400 making the particular trip well-worth it. read more

It has 2 stories, first-floor is the main floor , Where you can find : a flower shop, customer service center, GNC, jewelries, uniform shops, electronics, pet supplies, small Appliances, Garden items, patio furniture, etc. Second floor you can find house furnitures , mattresses, washer and dryers, refrigerators, bedding, items, and more. Prior to this review, i previously had a bad experience with customer service. Luckily, I decided that coming during a weekday would be better to go to customer service and obtain my layaway. It was a more than pleasant experience and a 5 min wait time. As one of the largest exchanges in the hampton roads area.. people flock here and it seems to always be crowded on the weekends and especially the holidays. Note to self.. go during the weekdays as much as possible, on the mornings to afternoons. I love their scratch of deals and promos and the interior set up. They are a 4.5 on the cleanliness scale here. But I can get a little flusted not finding things and trying to get some employees attention in helping me. It like a mini mall for military.. with the commissary connecting the exchange. I come here for my apple products and designer bags for a bargain deal. They are keeping to a 50 percent capacity at the food court, leaving tables with signs that are reserved for social distancing. It is mandatory to wear a mask. For Covid precaution they get a 5. I've been to this exchange on a number of occasions.. especially because I love their cosmetic section. I prefer to go to oceana or little creek to steer far away from the crowds. This review pertains to the Firestone franchise at the Navy exchange Norfolk. Just prior to my deployment, my wife purchased 4 tires for over $1200. After I returned work-ups, one of the tire sensors wasn't working. This was known before leaving there. The one employee/manager said it'd be okay. It wasn't okay. I returned within the month upon opening that morning, I showed him my receipt and explain to him that the tire sensor wasn't reading on the right rear. He seemed very put off and was edging towards being curt to me despite the fact I treated him professionally and politely. I called friend of mine (who is professional driver). Never heard of this situation before where one sensor reflects it's inoperative and the other doesn't read. He should not have said it was ok for my wife leave until it was resolved. So I had to purchase a new sensor for almost $100 ( the standard price is $26 for high-end sensor). I asked for the old back; he agreed but never gave it to me.There's something shady about him. My wife had also told me that her vehicle shakes at several speeds (at first I thought it was rough pavement) despite the new tires that were balanced. To remedy a routine problem I scheduled service with independent Firestone dealer and as q back up to a reputable garage in order to identify the source of the unusual vibration from four brand new tires purchased at the NEX (vehicle under 25k miles)! Never in all my years of driving have I ever experienced someone that couldn't balance tires or troubleshoot a tire sensor BEFORE leaving the garage! It's not very helpful Navy Exchange! read more

I like coming to this NEX because it is the largest one in the area. They have almost everything you would normally need so its a great one stop location. There is a garden center, barber shop, commissary, fast food restaurants and an ID office. They have implemented Covid-19 safeguards by limiting seating area and having a designated staff memeber to sanitize once a party left. Me and my wife are new to the area and as both veteran and active duty we go to various Navy Exchanges. We love seeing what each NEX has to offer and love seeing how each one varies. Once we arrived we were a little skeptical why this exchange was off base. We are accustomed to exchanges being on base are requiring military or base ID's but non the less parking was good. Once we arrived there was a lot to see and it has a lot to offer. From the Commissary for groceries, to the electronics department, to the clothing store. They also had side businesses and other military affiliated shops that showed their military pride around the exchange. But the reasoning for the three stars would be the customer service. In specific areas of the exchange the customer service was less than expected. Out of all the exchanges that me and my wife had been to this has been the least best and this is mostly due to the food court area. The service here was horrible and it seemed as if mostly non of the employees working in the food court cared to work there, especially the Burger King. But non the less the NEX has great deals and uses the benefits of the Military Star Card plus being tax free so I couldn't be to hard in this place. Plus it's opening up a Cane's in the food court (which me and my wife love), so I'm hoping they hire positive attitude employees. read more

It's the main NEX in this area and it is huge. This place is where you mist come before you ship out to pick up any little things you forgot or put off bringing with you. They have all the things other NEX's have, and a big food court as well. Also, there is a full uniform shop on site, this is great so that you are not bouncing around trying to get your seabag together. Awarding a solid five stars for: friendly customer service, well stocked, variety of goods under one roof, clean/hygienic store, and convenient location. Definitely sign up for their free 'rewards' program, they send you $10 off anything emails and $10 off birthday cards. Happy Shopping! read more

World's largest NEX! Yeayah! This place has it all. Did you know there's even an Auntie Ann's in there? Crazy. I enjoy going to the nex to look around at different sales, and we got our Black Friday shopping done here since it's tax free. Overall the prices are good, so is the selection here, but don't expect that with the food section (high prices and not much to choose from). The food court here is great, the different options are good for having a group of people. Not much bad about this place! All your navy needs in one spot! read more

Although this NEX is the largest in the states but it's not the best compares to the one in San Diego CA. Ahhh the good old spot to hide when you're an E- NOTHING Looking for a break. DAMN I miss the Navy at times. I'm a Long way from 2003 and earning my skater warfare pin. As I walk thru this mall I am reminded what 19 years old Looks like. Having to catch cabs, food court diets, going out in town in your working uniform, (at that time the Johnny cash's woulda been uniform of the day, or utilities.) I really hate blue camouflage. It looks ridiculous. Lol Anyhoo, 31 now and moved on from my naval stepping stone but I love this mall if not for the nostalgia alone. It's a couple floors now, I remember when it was one level. Parking lot still sucks but everybody could use some PT here and there. Still lots of variety, good deals and cheaper than competitors. Can't beat it. This is for the uniform section. I went there to try to return a cover I bought in San Diego, but couldn't due to not having a receipt. No problem there, I get it. That's not what has me annoyed. It's the lack of floor sales people. To get this answer I had to stand in line at customer service for 15 minutes. Then I had to get back in line to get the cover I needed. Another 15 minutes only to find a black spot on the top of it right before my turn. Out of line again, just to get a blemish free cover (less than 10 feet from where I was standing in line). Back in line again where I've been now for 20 minutes. I could have been out of here at least 30 minutes ago if there had been someone to help me. There are only 2 registers working, and a 20 foot long line behind me. I just heard the supervisor say to someone she was going to be hiding back in alterations. Nice way to lead your people, hiding in the back while they deal with customers that are ticked for having to wait forever just to check out or get questions answered. I hate having to come over here, but had to come to the base for a meeting and thought I'd make a quick trip. This has not been a quick trip. read more

Selection is massive, there's a nice & fancy humidor filled with cigars. There's a decent little snack aisle as well as a few wine aisles. This NEX is usually pretty crowded for obvious reasons (just outside Naval Station Norva). Typical conveniences available being tax free and all. But most products are sold at retail. Clothing prices are ridiculously high unless there are clearances. Best sales are available during holidays. I get my 511s for work since I can at least save on the sales tax exemption. Back in the day (80s), the NEX was the spot to save money significantly on comparable name brand products. But since around the mid 1990s, all NEXs can actually be quite expensive. Kinda defeats the purpose of trying to help support the troops financially if they can get things cheaper out in town. Only real positive, is the convenience if you happen to work on base or live close by. read more

The biggest NEX in the world? Cool. I don't mind driving an extra 15 minutes to get here when I could go to somewhere closer to where I currently live in Virginia. The staff I've encountered here is very nice. The uniform shop has everything you need for navy uniforms and pretty much anything for whatever else you do. You walk up to their register and they don't acknowledge you or say 'Hello'. I had all my items on the counter and the lady saw me but she seemed to occupied that she misplaced her employee name tag, and once she was done ringing my items, I wanted to make sure if she scanned one of the big items in the cart and not forget, clearly she had the nerve to give me attitude. Once I got my paid items, I politely said, "Thank you!" and again she has the audacity to just stare at me. Sorry 'Faaizah' (stated on my receipt) but you really need to get an attitude check before you applied here and work on your customer service, cause you're giving the place a bad rep.. like, damn girl, who hurt you to make you act like this!? They have a great selection of brands and the deals are massive. This place is always busy and pay day is the definitely the worst day to visit because its packed and crowded. As far as I know, this is the biggest navy exchange in the world. This particular exchange has a wide extensive product range from electronics, kitchen wares, fragrances and cosmetics, clothing, shoes and accessories. Exchanges play an important role for U.S. military and federal government personnel assigned overseas as they are often the only local source for American retail merchandise.Exchanges also supply gasoline at prices roughly approximating those in the U.S normally on a rationed basis, to overseas personnel for personal use, since fuel prices in most foreign countries (where U.S. military are stationed) are normally much higher due to local taxes. I enjoy shopping at the NEX for certain things. Most of the time their brand name cosmetics and fragrances are MUCH cheaper than Sephora and the girls at the Benefit counter are super sweet!! I feel like the employees in the cosmetic section actually want to help you instead of just asking hoping you will say no. And again, prices are usually cheaper plus tax free. I usually find good deals on clothing and shoes here. Some of their small appliances for the home are discounted too. Now with that being said I try to avoid the whole electronics department. I never find a good deal here. Things are cheaper online or at Best Buy. Came here for the first time the other day and this place was poppin. I live closer to the one on Oceana and this one is much bigger and has more variety of stuff. I was most hyped about the makeup section they even carried Anastasia, Benefit, and Glam Glow. The had the glam glow mask for $10 cheaper! I also bought some L'Oréal ever fresh shampoo and conditioner for $2 cheaper than what I would find at Target or Ulta. Their "Claim to Fame" is better than out in-town competition and Tax Free savings. Don't be fooled, as this is not always true 75% of the time. A good majority of the time the prices at the NEX are over inflated making you think it's a good deal by being "tax-free." This has happened to me several times in the past. After shopping at a local Best Buy. I purchased a tv; after taxes out in-town the total was $750 and it was $800 for the same tv at the NEX that is tax free and SUPPOSED to be saving you money. Another instance was a DVD player it was $39 after taxes again at a location out in-town and the same exact one at the NEX was $59. Now the NEX claims to have a price matching policy by bringing in the local ad or your receipt, so they can price match the ad. But its more work for you if you already bought the item at the cheaper price. Also a good majority of local business offer coupons where is the NEX does not! Here in the Hampton roads area. 10 years ago, I remember how often I shopped at this NEX and would often brag to my friends about how great and cheap it was. One this that still and always will blow my mind is the cost for just about ALL of the DVD's are $19.99. I know Walmart sells the same thing for $15 cheaper yet the NEX still claims to be the better deal. On many occasions I've already returned items due to local out in-town stores offering percentages off the total purchase, and have managed to save $5+ shopping at other locations besides the NEX. **Overall the NEX is an "OK" but just be mindful of the prices and do your research before making your purchase. read more

I actually like coming here when I make my once a week to once every two weeks trip usually with my husband. It's kind of like shopping in a divided up Walmart. They have pretty much everything. Well, almost everything. A couple of times I have come here looking for something specific and they either didn't have it or only had one variety ie a grill pan, they only had one and it was $159.99!! My husband has come here looking for a microphone for his computer to play games and they didn't have any. But overall I like coming here for our household items because hey, tax free! I don't do by any means a majority of my food shopping here but they have the special K cereal Smart Start that my husband likes which I can't seem to find elsewhere at supermarkets and they do have a decent selection of steaks and frozen shrimp (although they aren't grass fed or organic or anything). That's pretty much all we will buy here. Sometimes I'll get some milk or creamer for coffee because they have a few items I haven't been able to find in other stores. They have a great selection of bath towels by the way! Highly recommend the Harbor Home or Hotel Collection- so soft and for a reasonable price- tax free! It's alright. It's a bitch to try to find things sometimes. And the tailors sometimes don't know what they're doing. But it's nice to know that the exchange has all the sizes made. I think it's the biggest NEX in the world. However, one particular moment I remember is when I was looking for undershirts for my uniform, and you know, sometimes Navy clothing runs a little big. So I ask one of the employees if an XS would fit me, and he just laughed in my face. I was like, "um, alright motherfucker, you go ahead and laugh." "No man, a medium is alright for you, really. Hahahahaha." Now, in boot camp, I had a medium. They are too big. In the military, too big is not good or you will get your ass handed to you by a uniform-strict Chief. I bought the XS shirts and went to the counter, and he said to his fellow employees, "hey, that's the guy!" Everybody just laughed at me. That pissed me off. If you laugh at me, you better have a good reason. I just left that store and smoked a cigarette. Went home and tried the shirts on, and what do you know? They fit, and fit well. Whatever, fuck them.
