We have been enjoying Nori since they were in Desert Ridge by the theater. When I saw that they were opening on High Street I was excited we could continue to patronize them. The food is just as good as it was at Desert Ridge. I love their rolls and they have a creative drink menu. Jamal is a gift that Nori hopefully appreciates, because he is an outstanding bartender. Fun, interactive, and he works hard. He made our evening fantastic. However, I do have to agree with many of my fellow yelpers that the downfall of this place is their service. We regularly come here and we always sit at the bar. They don't seem to have regular people bringing food out, so I noticed the bartenders having to go and check on food numerous times. I think the problem is that this place is so large that they are gone for awhile, and then the drink orders get backed up. I understand that the back patio is nice, but I just don't think they have the staff to properly serve the whole restaurant and the two patio areas. Everyone we encountered was friendly but they have such a large area to serve that it makes it difficult for them. Visited the space with one of my friends and we happened to be the first people when they opened that day. The restaurant was a very warm welcoming space and we were seated at a small table. Our server introduced herself and we ordered drinks which came promptly. For our meal, I ordered miso soup and a curry udon with crispy chicken, along with a green tea. The Japanese curry was super flavorful, one of the best I've had. The noodles were soft and chewy and complimented the curry and everything else in it. The miso soup was a wonderful beginning to the meal, very light and also flavorful. The green tea was a perfect drink for everything. I also got to try my friends salmon and that was amazing! This crispy skin was phenomenal as was the interior meat. My experience was absolutely wonderful. It is a little pricey but that's pretty on par for Japanese food. Yellowtail serrano was good but the server who brought it over seemed so rushed as well that she spilled sauce onto the rim of the dish where food's not supposed to be on. Mind you, this is a classy restaurant with a pricey menu. Yakiudon was saucy. Not how it should be. If it was dryer, there would be more caramelization and flavor to the noodles. Instead, it tasted rather bland because the flavor was all in the sauce. Baked lobster tempura roll was not evenly cut. Take a look at my photos attached. They dont have to be exactly even but one of the pieces was so much thinner than the rest. Presentation is important for a high end restaurant like this. Chilean seabass was a bit overcooked. Can't taste sake at all. $39 of a dish where I'd expect the fish to melt in your mouth because that's what a high quality, well prepped chilean seabass should taste like, but it doesn't. Was craving sushi but was short on time so I found a place close by. Haven't been here before but sure glad I decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Very large and decorated well. We quickly got seated by our waiter and he was phenomenal, dare I say the best waiter I've had in years? I have been looking and trying different places for ramen and may have found the ONE! Coming from the Los Angeles area and having lived in Japan, I am very selective about ramen. The secret is in the broth. The tonkatsu ramen I had today at Nori Sushi had that taste I was craving. I could taste the pork bone broth and spices and onions etc. and the noodles were nice & firm! Service was excellence, the servers were attentive. The restaurant was tastefully decorated, I felt like I was back in Japan and the utensils and plates were authentically Japanese. I asked for "Ocha" and made sure it was the powder type and not a tea bag. Green tea was served in a typical Japanese tea cup where the cup stays hot. This is so you can warm your hands when you hold the cup especially during the winter months. Nori Sushi is located in the High Street area which is full of entertainment and shops, it's like a city on its own. Tyrus, a manager maybe, cane by our table to make sure we had a nice dinner. This entire area is completely new since I was last in Phoenix. It's called High Street. It is sort of a downtown looking area with condos and businesses above all of the local businesses on the ground floor. It wasn't very busy on a super bowl evening but I can imagine it gets pretty busy on weekends. Lots of businesses here but this sushi place was at the very end. Had a good view of the Sun as well. Service was extremely friendly and I was very pleased. The food was also pretty good. The salmon sashimi was excellent and fresh and the soft shell crab roll was also excellent. Prices are a little bit high here and that's why they lose a star. That's just my own personal opinion with sushi. I don't feel like it should be as expensive as it is. Crucify me if you want but I know you can get good sushi for cheaper. Outdoor seating was excellent and definitely a place I would return to! read more

My friend and I like to try different sushi spots cause we love sushi and we just bought our own respective houses in Arizona and decided to try a new spot in between both our homes and found Nori sushi. We had never tried it and it looks like they had a good happy hour. We usually go to the same sushi spot but wanted to try something closer. Honestly we should have just gone to our regular spot. The issue wasn't the food but the customer service. The sushi was good, edamame was good and came on time, the monkey margarita was good too. My friend and I love having a shot of tequila to start our dinner, it's just tradition. We asked what their house tequila was and was advised some name we had never heard of before. She said they also had Patron. We said we would try the house tequila as we had never heard of it before and it came and it didn't taste great but what could you expect from a house tequila right? Now get this, we get our bill and on it said "Patron" My friend and i know what Patron tastes like so we asked her to check as to why we would be charged with patron when we asked for house. She said she would talk to her manager. After about 5 minutes, she comes back and says "well I talked to my manager and since I wrote down Patron and you drank it, you're charged for that." I was floored. It's not like it was a smooth tequila. If it at least tasted good it wouldn't be a problem. As a manager I would have come to the table to explain or hear out my customers before having the server come back with an "I wrote it so you pay it" attitude. Only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because the food was good, it's the customer service that was absolutely lacking. I wouldn't recommend anyone come here since there are several other sushi spots that have excellent sushi and even better customer service. read more

Hot spot! Chose Nori Sushi for a colleague's birthday lunch, and it was (mostly) the right choice. From the atmosphere to the food, Nori Sushi deserves your full attention. The dining room is decidedly minimalist (think clean interiors, high ceilings with unique lighting and cement flooring), and the open sushi kitchen adds electricity to the environment. I immediately felt at ease here. The devil is truly in the details, and this place knocks it out of the park. This will definitely become one of my High Street go-to's. I was expecting to experience some sticker shock as I perused the menu, but the lunch specials are a steal. I got the Sashimi set for $19 with a bowl of miso that was delightful. The other sets ordered like the Nigiri were equally appealing and filling. For appetizers, we did the Edamame, chicken lettuce wraps, and fried cheese. Exquisite plating that would be on par with Nobu at half the price. They also offer M-F Happy Hour deals on drinks. A draft beer with a small hot sake for $8? Why not!? I said that they mostly hit it out of the park. There were some gaps on the service side. Not everything, but still. When I called to book our lunch reservation that was handled perfectly, and they were truly expecting us when we arrived (for smaller groups, you can book directly online). When I asked the reservationist if Nori Sushi was part of the Sizzle Korean BBQ group, he confirmed that it was, which didn't surprise me at all. Both of these places are elevating the concept of "Asian" food. The gaps that we experienced were in the service area. For example, my Sashimi set was supposed to be served with rice, but it never came. A colleague of mine ordered a Diet Coke that never materialized, either. One dish was placed in front of the wrong guest, who then proceeded to eat it. Honestly, I know that every restaurant is short staffed now, but Nori wasn't that busy at lunch. Then a few years ago they stopped making modifications. We accepted it and would just get no vegetables. Now today we went and my 3 year old daughter wanted veggies yakisoba with the veggies on the side. They said they wouldn't make the veggies on the side as it doesn't have the flavor. Last minute change to date night with another couple ended up with us having a two year old joining. But our server seemed annoyed.
