It is rare we try new sushi spots but we tried this place and it was good. We got the double dragon and Las Vegas rolls. They were excellent. Service was good. Good choices for Saki. My hunt for the best sushi in The Valley has officially come to an end. We had the tuna belly sashimi, salmon sashimi, uni nigiri, soft shell crab roll, lollipop roll, and dragon roll. The sashimi selection was fresh and quite decadent, the uni tasted like it was caught in the ocean immediately after placing our order! In fact, we felt the need to order this item TWICE! Friendly and timely customer service, amazing sushi/sashimi selection. We'll definitely be coming back here, despite the distance. Nori is by far the best Sushi in N. Scottsdale/Phoenix - especially compared to places like Pure sushi which give a bad name to sushi. I had nigiri (Tuna and Salmon) along with the wagyu skewer and the Ahi Tuna Tataki roll -- maybe the best sushi roll I've had since moving to Arizona. Nori apparently means slow but tasty in Japanese. The service here is hit or miss. Blaming staffing for a high end restaurant is insulting. We are happy to overpay for great quality and great service but take away part of the equation and it's just annoying. Nori has some of the best tasting sushi around and when it's on, it's on! Got seated right when doors opened (11:30am) - why I had to box my entire meal the moment it came out because it took 40 minutes to come out and I had leave by 12:30 (ya know, 1 hour lunch break) - I have NO idea. Upon getting seated, waitress came and filled up the waters then proceeded to walk around the restaurant aimlessly (seriously, there were only 2 other tables in the entire building and she wasn't even tending them to) never to be seen or heard from again. We had to flag down the manager to take our order because 20 minutes after we had been seated, the waitress had STILL not come by to check in or get our order or anything. During the treacherously long wait, we asked her to check in on the food multiple times and every time she said "it's almost done"... 40 minutes after putting an extremely simple order of 2 teriyaki chicken bento boxes, the food came out and we had to ask for a to go box and check. Incredibly terrible experience. If I wanted take out, I would have ordered it. I did not appreciate sitting there for an hour for literally no reason. The manager came up to us at the end, apologized, and said it should not have taken 40 minutes for the food to come out and proceeded to give us a $5 off coupon to use the next time we come in. I would have MUCH rather him discounted the tab (at the least) because I am not trying to go to this place again. Food was nothing special and a large majority of the lettuce in the salad was brown. The winter and spring had us working everywhere except here, well we back in full speed now. Yesterday for lunch we visited Nori on High Street. We love High Street, so homey, and welcoming. As we walked in the restaurant was very clean, there was not anyone there except one couple at the sushi bar. We were asked very abruptly is that a service animal, we answered yes, he is. We were seated and a short time later the server asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered and asked about ordering something for our service animal. The manager quickly appeared and told us services animals are not allowed to eat at restaurants. Of course, we know that is bunk, if the food had been better, it might have been an issue. We will not return; we take our service animal everywhere including some of the most exclusive restaurant in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area and have never had an issue except at Nori. We went to Nori sushi this afternoon to try a new place and asked to sit outside, Stephanie brought us outside but there were no clean tables (the entire restaurant was empty). She offered to clean a table off for us but after waiting 5 minutes we decided to go inside. When receiving some of our appetizers they were not fresh - lettuce was dirty/browned. I came here today expecting great sushi and that I did get. The fish is great and fresh. I made a reservation (which I recommend that you do) and proceeded to sit at the sushi bar instead. I got greeted by three sushi chefs which went ahead and gave me great recommendations. I ordered the garlic edamame, and shrimp tempura as starters and then got the classic nigiris (salmon, salmon belly, scallop, halibut) and a couple of their specialty rolls which you can see in the pics below. The quality of the fish is amazing. Highly recommended I have a feeling that this will be my new got to sushi spot even is the drive is a little longer for me. We made reservations for Friday night at 6pm and arrived and were seated by the hostess. Although there was 4 of us, they could only give us 2 menus and one of them was missing the pages with the Sushi items. This seemed strange as the restaurant was only 30% full. It took about 5-7 minutes for a server to great us and take our drink order. She came back about 5 minutes later, and we placed an order for appetizers, 3 dinners items from the kitchen and 2 sushi rolls. The first Sushi Roll arrived about 8 minutes later. What made this weird is that it came out before the drinks and before the appetizers. Another 7 minutes passed, and we finally received our drinks 20 minutes after ordering them. Apparently, they were short on wine glasses to serve my wife and her friend. Couldn't they wash some or maybe use a different glass instead of letting us sit there with nothing to drink? Soon the appetizers arrived and shortly thereafter the dinners arrived. All the stuff tasted good, but we were still waiting on the second Sushi roll which was my dinner. Located at the Desert Ridge, this restaurant is near the AMC theater, so many people are around, I thought it would be a good place for people watch. Quality of fish wasn't bad at all but I had them better at a nearby sushi restaurant. I ordered sushi plate for lunch. 7 pcs came with an order and it was $15. They added rice inside the egg, I thought that was interesting. Lunch comes with miso soup, they did good with dashi but mushroom sort of ruined it. Service was a bit slow side. Well, sometimes too fast, she wanted to clear plates before we finished. It was business lunch, and we often paused eating to discuss, she thought we finished eating. I went to Nori tonight to simply have HH sushi. I watched the only other customer at the bar wait for 10 minutes to get WATER. He left annoyed, but I decided to stay, what a mistake!!!!! I waited for about 10 - 15 minutes to order. In the meantime, two other couples sat at the bar. One couple ordered their sushi, much after me and were finishing their dinner when I asked for the manager. 20 minutes later the manager arrived with my food. I have no idea why they can't deliver individual sushi rolls, but they won't. When I said something, their bartender started arguing with me instead of fixing the issue. I use to go to Nori quite often when it was located in Desert Ridge, food and service was always exceptional. Unfortunately at the new location the service was not up to par. I'm sure it was a fluke but when we sat down our serve came over and said hello but never took our drink orders. We waited about 30 minutes before we physically got up to notify the manager. He came over and took our orders but seem quite annoyed. Well, we waited another 20 minutes and our drinks never came! Finally we flagged down the waitress who originally said she was our server and she told us "I told them I cant take your table I'm just too overwhelmed with all the tables they gave me and I gave your table to my mananger"... we looked around and didn't see many people at tables. I said "You mean the guy we walked over to and asked for drinks? He didn't even tell us he was our new server." *crickets* We finally got our drinks from the manager and we placed our food orders (with the waitress? So confusing) which came out quickly. I will say the food is still fabulous! High quality and delicious. At the end of the night after sitting almost 50 minutes with no drinks and no communication unless we initiated it, the manager didn't even offer a free dessert or discount. Wow! I'm giving this a three star because the food is so good.
