Popped in here to read my first official book draft! Stephanie was so lovely and attentive and let me read and munch at my leisure! The sushi and sashimi lunch was great! The miso tasty and salad dressing fantastic! Loved the trifle oil in the side for added flavor!

MY REVIEW (originally posted on Instagram @gigieats) Found this sushi spot on Yelp and the SECOND my butt hit the chair, I devolved into a rabid pocket-gremlin with one functioning brain cell and that cell was screaming "SASHIMI!" The salmon sashimi didn't have enough time to melt in my mouth because I vacuumed it into my face like a Roomba with unresolved issues. The escolar slid down so fast even I was like "GiGi... slow DOWN... have some dignity," and then I didn't. That Naruto roll wrapped me tighter than my self-control ever could. And the salmonskin -- my personality trait, my reason for breathing, my emotional support crunch -- was a liiiiittle too crispy... like "touch it and it'll shatter into confetti"... but still good enough that I hunched over my plate like a territorial woodland creature protecting its newborn. I didn't dine. I made noises not approved by the FDA. But... If you need me, I'll be 6 minutes from home, perched in a corner booth, haunting this sushi place like a tiny unhinged gremlin with chopsticks and zero remorse.

I went to Pure Sushi with a friend on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated at the bar which I always enjoy at a sushi restaurant. The staff was really nice and welcoming. We ordered miso soup and some sushi rolls. It did take some time to receive our sushi as the restaurant was slightly busy. Overall had a good experience and this is a good sushi spot for the area.

This is how my to go sushi looked after a 5 min ride home (barely moved at all) I feel like the chefs here could just put in a tiny bit more effort. The servers though are always super nice.

Pure is my sushi happy place. Granted it's busy. Make a reservation. Love the ambiance. Had the best waitress, super friendly, I apologize for forgetting her name. She had long black hair, she served the tables to the left from the entrance. The Pure Asian Pear. A drink drowned in alcohol. Be careful if you are a light drinker. Just saying

What a great spot for sushi! The ambiance was great and the space uniquely designed. I love a poke bowl and went for the tuna poke - perfect and full of flavor! Of course I had to try the miso soup - which was great with thick slices of mushroom in it.

Upon arrival, the place doesn't look like anything special. It's inside a strip mall, and looks mediocre. However, do not judge too soon. Once you get inside, everything is well laid out & it's very nice. It was busy when we went in on a Friday night, BUT we got seated quicker than estimated- which is always a win! I was not happy with where we were seated, as it was facing the wall in the small bar area. We are people watchers by nature, so it's always fun to be in a spot where we can look around the room effortlessly. However, it wasn't the end of the world and I certainly didn't want to wait any longer, the food looked wonderful & I was starving! I do not remember exactly which rolls we got, but... all of them were EXCELLENT!! Everything was undoubtedly fresh, and made with quality ingredients. I thought the black rice was really neat! I've never seen that before. The waitstaff were very friendly and accommodating. It took no time at all to get our orders out, which was impressive considering that the place was packed near capacity! As we left, all of the sushi pros behind the glass thanked us for coming in and wished us a great rest of our evening. I thought that was very kind. It's not very often that you find a whole line of people stopping what they are doing to wish you well on your way out of their establishment. All in all, 10/10 experience! I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Sushi!

I stopped in at 5 p.m. sharp on a Thursday, and there was already a line out the door. That said, getting a table for one wasn't a problem. The atmosphere is definitely rambunctious. It was extremely loud and energetic, although no one was being disorderly. Personally, I found it unpleasant. I ordered a spider roll, which is a longtime favorite of mine across different states and restaurants. Unfortunately, Hiro's version didn't work for me. It came with a mayonnaise-style sauce that wasn't listed on the menu, and I've never encountered that preparation on a spider roll before. The pieces were also unusually large and awkward to eat. I would have preferred more moderate, bite-sized portions. I also found the pricing to be on the high side compared with other sushi spots; that applied across the board, from appetizers to rolls. I'm glad I finally gave Hiro Sushi a try. It just wasn't a match for my personal preferences. Three stars for me, but clearly a Scottsdale favorite for many.

I actually had in mind getting the burger before coming, as the last time I came I chose something different and I had a bite from my friend, and it left a lasting impression for sure. This Burger hits different, and it's part of the prefix menu... and man, it's good!!! Cooked medium and served with a miso aioli and these onions that are not heavy and I think tossed with kimchi. Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't come here without grabbing some sushi. I ended up getting the Hamachi Nigiri and the Maguro Nigiri. To drink, I had the Tsurai cocktail, as I like a little tequila with fruit and we shared the iced tea. My business associate got the Sushi Omakase, which I had before. Bottom line, we were still raving about the food, the service, and just the vibe during the day.

The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. We were a party of 12 visiting on vacation, and none of us are from the area. We ordered spam musubi and a chicken skewer as appetizers. Both appetizers arrived well after our entrees had already been served and we had essentially finished eating. Each time we asked about them, we were repeatedly told, "They're coming." Mind you, these are simple appetizers that should not take anywhere near that long to prepare. When we asked for the third time, we finally asked that the appetizers be cancelled since we had already finished our meal. At that point, the gentleman working the front area , tall, with red hair, loudly yelled from across the restaurant, in an extremely rude and confrontational tone, "It's already on the grill!" There was absolutely no reason to speak to paying customers that way. His response was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly created a very hostile and uncomfortable feeling during what should have been an enjoyable dinner, especially while our group was on vacation and simply trying to enjoy a meal together. When the appetizers eventually came out, we left them sitting there because we were already done eating and ended up taking them to go. He eventually told us they would be removed from the bill, which we appreciated, but that did not excuse the way the situation was handled. Again, the food was good, but good food does not make up for poor service and especially not for an employee speaking to customers in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. Management should seriously address how customers are treated, because the interaction with this particular employee overshadowed what could have otherwise been a good dining experience for our party of 12.

My friend was hungry so she immediately put in an order for calamari and I was being called to order the blood orange margarita slushie. When the margarita came it was like nothing I have ever seen before. It looked more like a milkshake or like a creamsicle. I dove in thinking it would be too sweet but it was actually quite delicious and I sucked it back in a second! Also I put in an order for the edamame which sounded really good in the description -- "woodfired" and spicy miso butter -- but when they came they were really spicy and the woodfired element was making me cough, strangely enough -- I couldn't finish them! Finally after waiting forever we got the drinks and apps. It then took another 15 minutes to order our food. Again it was busy and my friend and I were catching up so it wasn't a big deal. We wanted a fairly light dinner so we just ordered one roll -- the Fuego, which had yellowtail and a whitefish, chili, cilantro and cucumber plus a pico de gallo on top -- it was very flavorful -- although a bit spicy for those who are spice wimps like me. Overall, thought it was a good meal but wasn't blown away.

Food was flawless, but the service (on the night I went) was pretty bad. The guy at the bar was…read moreabout to get off, showed zero interest and then didn't say anything just left and a new girl took over, who also didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Food was prepared flawlessly but they brought my sides out a whole 10 mins before my steak arrived. Ambiance was low lit, cool vibe, reminded me of TOCA interior

This was the most authentic and delicious japanese restaurant that I have been to in years (yes,…read moreYEARS!) anywhere in the united states . It's a small restaurant run by Nihon-jin and staffed with culinary wizards. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful in making our food choices. We had three different waitresses constantly bringing our food and filling our glasses throughout the. There were six of us. The surrounding tables were all filled with Nihon-jin - a very good sign! We had gyoza appetizers that were the BEST i've had since leaving japan! It was cooked properly, which is PAN seared on the bottom. And the rest steamed with soft, chewy dumpling skin and tasty filling. Another appetizer was a plate of little sausages that came with a side of shaved cabbage. I heard they were good, but didn't try any myself. When I looked at the menu, there were so many various types of sushi! It was written in both japanese and english. They had a picture menu as well as a separate. Sushi menu. I had the kanpyo maki and also a futo maki roll. The other people at our table had katsudon, (one made with chicken and the other with pork), a plate of sashimi, a nigiri sushi combo, and several types of rolls. I chose Hiyashi Chuka, (cold ramen) - a chilled noodle dish popular in summertime. The toppings were sliced pieces of tender pork, surimi, wakame, carrot and cucumber slices. The dressing for Hiyashi Chuka is a sweet-and-sour soy sauce dressing (or tare). In fact, I usually take pictures of all my food and I was so excited i didn't take any pictures of the food or menu! I told my sister we have to go back there today so that I can take some! I highly recommend this restaurant. If you are looking for authentic Japanese food made by Japanese people. There is such a wide variety of food that you would only get in Japan & never heard of before in a stateside restaurant. This is my new favorite Japanese restaurant! It will be yours too!

I found out about Sushi Sen via IG ads back in 2021. Most if not all staff are Japanese. I've been coming here for years now and my parents who reside full time in CA love coming here. We actually make the drive from Peoria to Scottsdale just to eat here whenever they are in town. My mom loves to bring friends and family who are visiting from out of state to Sushi Sen. Lots of Asians & other Japanese ppl who eat here so it passes the vibe check. 100/10 recommend
