My friends and I came to Pure for our final dinner in Scottsdale. We were craving sushi and didn't have a reservation, but Pure was open and nearby. It was Mothers Day and Pure was busy, so it got my hopes up that it was going to be a great dining experience, but it left a lot to be desired. We started with the edamame tossed in spicy miso butter. This was so yummy! We also ordered the crab rangoons and were fans of this dish as well. For my main course, I decided to try the Yokisoba. I saw someone at the table next to me ordered it and it looked and smelled delicious! Unfortunately I was not a fan of these dish. The sauce the vegetables and noodles were tossed in just had a weird taste I wasn't a fan of. We also split a sushi roll that was very average. Unfortunately my friends didn't love their main courses either! Our server was kind, especially considering how busy it was, but I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon. I feel like they've made a lot of great changes since my initial review, and I come here enough that it's only fair to give a little update. They redid the inside so it is more open with a large bar area and space. Rolls and nigiri are more consistent; they look and taste great. My recent go-to has been the seafood salad which is a large portion with a great amount of raw fish and crab salad. I always come hungry when I know that's my order for the evening. Pure is a great spot for sushi in north Scottsdale. It's consistently good. They have a great happy hour from 3-6pm. Happy Hour prices are really reasonable. It gets busy because it's a popular spot. They also have fun specialty rolls. My favorite is their Loch Ness Roll and Creamy Baked Lobster Roll. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, bar seating and separate sushi bar seating. I recommend making a reservation. read more

I have been here few times. I want to give this place a better rating especially because the staff is so nice but it's simply not merited. Pure Sushi has solid and varied options for sushi, which is nice and dare I say uncommon in this area. The sushi is a solid 3.5 to 4. Not the best I ever had but not terrible. I always think we are going to grab cocktails while we are there but the cocktails are inconsistent and not the greatest. Somewhat disappointing and never good enough to order a second. Most notable on our last visit and something that needs to be addressed was zillions of fruit flies throughout the place. We were seated in the back by the bar. My son noticed something strange on the wall. I turned around and almost gagged because there were literally hundreds of fruit flies on the wall. It was disgusting and I can't believe they sat us there. We initially moved to another nearby table by the Bar but it was also fruit fly central. The waitress then moved us to the main dining room (it was obvious they knew it was an issue and she was embarrassed) but by that point I could not get over it and all I could think of was extreme concern for what was in the drinks at the bar. We finished our dinner and left quickly after that. Nothing was offered to us for the experience (and we are not the type of people to demand or ask). To be honest I cannot go back after this incident. Especially since they don't participate in posting their health violation scores on yelp (I just noticed this). How they can let customers sit by a horde of flies and not wipe down the walls or fix this is beyond me. Forcing the staff to deal with customers in this situation is also horrifying. read more

MY REVIEW (originally posted on Instagram @gigieats) Found this sushi spot on Yelp and the SECOND my butt hit the chair, I devolved into a rabid pocket-gremlin with one functioning brain cell and that cell was screaming "SASHIMI!" The salmon sashimi didn't have enough time to melt in my mouth because I vacuumed it into my face like a Roomba with unresolved issues. The escolar slid down so fast even I was like "GiGi... slow DOWN... have some dignity," and then I didn't. That Naruto roll wrapped me tighter than my self-control ever could. And the salmonskin -- my personality trait, my reason for breathing, my emotional support crunch -- was a liiiiittle too crispy... like "touch it and it'll shatter into confetti"... but still good enough that I hunched over my plate like a territorial woodland creature protecting its newborn. I didn't dine. I made noises not approved by the FDA. But... If you need me, I'll be 6 minutes from home, perched in a corner booth, haunting this sushi place like a tiny unhinged gremlin with chopsticks and zero remorse. read more

I went to Pure Sushi with a friend on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated at the bar which I always enjoy at a sushi restaurant. The staff was really nice and welcoming. We ordered miso soup and some sushi rolls. It did take some time to receive our sushi as the restaurant was slightly busy. My husband and I had a long day of traveling and even though we hadn't eaten all day, we wanted a light dinner. We were a little leary of raw fish in the desert, but thought we would give this place a try. We were not disappointed. The place was busy but we were seated right away. They have an extensive sushi menu and had a difficult decision on what to order. We ordered the edameme, Shrimp and vegetables tempura and the Eel and avocado sushi. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. The service was excellent. We only had ice water with lemon but the server was attentive and refilled our glasses regularly. We have a favorite sushi place in Oceanside, CA but this place was so much better. We are definitely going back here while we are here in Scottsdale. read more

Dont be fooled - many items on the gluten free menu are also on the happy hour menu but you will not have HH pricing because HH items are pre-made for the restaurant's convenience. The food was ok and the service was good. The restaurant has recently been refurbished and the interior is great BUT they have TVs all round and loud music. Group of 7 for dinner last Friday with reservations. When we arrived we were seated straight away. First thing I noticed was the table tops, they were sticky so when our waitress first came over we let her know and she wiped everything down right off. She was very attentive and we appreciated her service. She was awesome. I have one picture, my drink. It was delicious. Once the plates of Sushi started coming out it was GAME ON! Everything was so delicious! I wish I would have grabbed the detailed receipt because I do not recall how many different Sushi rolls we ordered. It was a lot. I was recently at Pure Sushi for a dinner with some girlfriends on a Tuesday night. At least a few years had past since my last dinner at Pure due to the fact that I live across the Valley, but I did have pleasant memories from previous visits so I was excited to return. We scored a patio table which was a huge plus due to covid and the pleasant evening temps and it's worth noting that they do indeed have misters. While it was half off bottles of wine on Tuesday, my friends and I could not agree on a bottle, so we ordered by the glass... there was a mix of white, red rose and bubbles at the table! We all enjoyed our respective orders including edamame, cucumber and seaweed salads, sushi, sashimi, a chirashi bowl, and a chicken teriyaki entree. Service was attentive and the owner stopped by to check-in on us, which was much appreciated. I hope to return sooner than later and would recommend this place to anyone in the area seeking out a fun ambiance + high quality sushi experience. read more

I am surprised by all the bad reviews and have to wonder if these are just the usual complainers. We had a really nice meal there last night, our first time. Although we were with another couple who eat there regularly and it is one of their go-to places. Which says something because we all live in southeast Scottsdale Ranch so this is a bit of a trek. Anyway, the food was very good. I had a Hamachi tuna sushi plate (called the Wheel) with jalapeno and ponzu. I also had a spider roll which was excellent. Very nice wine by the glass selection. Service can be hit or miss--I've had some truly wonderful servers and others that were just okay. The ambience inside is elevated, but we enjoy sitting outdoors for a dressed down experience. The ambiance is very open and lively with customers, then just very open and full of light after the lunch rush. There were two lovely ladies behind the bar, where I sat, and their service was friendly and professional. My roll was delicious, and I'm from a small Arizona town, yet their prices are equal/comparable, so it's Wallet friendly. I have been going to Pure Sushi four times a week for years. The management and servers have always been rude. This is confirmed by the other ratings on Yelp. My friends won't go there with me anymore because of the rude managers and servers. Today I came into eat. I ordered the same chicken that I order every week. I specifically state each time to not overcook the chicken. Today it came out charred and not edible. I asked to have it remade. I was told by my server that Greg, the manager said he wouldn't remake it. I asked to speak to Greg. He approached my table with an attitude and told me that I complain too much and he wouldn't remake the chicken. I then stated that I don't complain unless the food is made wrong. I asked him when I complained last. He made up a story saying last week. He became hostile and I said that I was going to leave. He said great! I had always heard of his hostile attitude and read about it on reviews. So, I always stayed clear of him. He definitely needs to approach his customers without anger and hostility or else he will keep losing customers. He also stated that the chicken comes out the same way each time. He is dead wrong. I eat it four days a week. It was black and charred. Pure needs to look for a new manager who doesn't scare customers and his employees. He obviously doesn't read the reviews about him. Or, should I say he doesn't care. It is obvious that people are not returning because of him. read more
