The sushi was fine, but my tempura really missed the mark. Great tempura should be light, airy, very fresh, and very crispy. Our delivery driver was waiting waiting waiting and actually went to go deliver another order while waiting for our delivery to be prepared. I came here with my family and we got the nori grand sushi and sashimi combo which is an amazing deal for what you get. The fish was really fresh and everything is perfectly shareable for a party of 2-3. On the top we got the chicago crunchy crazy: this was so fun to eat because of the burst of tobiko eggs and I love the combination of fishes and the mexican roll: the flavors for this one was different with the fresh squeezed lime and chili oil but everything worked so well together! What a great place for our first date (or any date, for that matter)! Upon walking in, you'll notice that the restaurant is very bright, white and clean. And had a definite Japanese feel. Customer service greeted us immediately. The volume level of the restaurant was pleasant and just right for us to really enjoy great conversation over a fun meal. Instead of sake or Japanese beer or wine, we opted for water and I had green tea which of course was brought in the cast iron pot. The green tea had a lovely earthy flavor slightly different than a typical green tea. Throughout the evening our server regularly passed by and filled up are water and poured tea. Our table was set with square plates and typical little round soy sauce cups, and nicer quality chopsticks than your typical Asian restaurant provides -- very noticeable and appreciated. We started with seaweed salad which was actually a bowl of traditional greens with piles of seaweed mixed around and shredded carrot garnishing the top. It was a very large serving and a nice change of pace, a large, very, very fresh salad with robust flavors of various lettuces, but not exactly what I expected and I would have preferred the straight flavor of pickled seaweed. The menu was extensive with a lot of interesting choices and clear explanation for those who don't know all of the Japanese words for the different fish. Fortunately, we held back slightly on our order -- "if we're still hungry we can always order more" -- as servings of everything were large and filling. Prices were definitely reasonable for what we got in terms of quantity and quality. We ordered a Ginza roll, 8 pieces of imitation crab, cilantro, heavy smoked salmon with drizzles of spicy mayonnaise and another spicy glaze. We both found it pretty in presentation and delicious, not overwhelming by one flavor or another and not a subtle boring flavor. It was definitely filling. We also had Rainbow tobiko -- wasabi-flavored, black and red flying fish roe over rice and wrapped traditionally in seaweed sheets. My date was not accustomed to it and wasn't a big fan but I found them to be delicious. The roe was piled high and super filling! Not the most pop but delicious and not too salty. Each of these sushi rolls was a such a mouthful that we laughed about how big they were! For our last order of nigiri, we had maguro, tuna, fresh pink slabs over rice. They were not stringy, tough or chewy and we were able to enjoy each in more than one bite. These were fresh but I would have liked them a teeny bit more flavorful. Perhaps ordering these as sashimi would have been a good idea as we would have been a little bit less full from everything and perhaps got a little more flavor from the fish. Service all evening was excellent. To cap off this first part of our evening, we ordered mochi for dessert. Customers are given choices of flavors and allowed to choose two. Super-cute, awesome babae chose for us, and our green tea and mango mochi arrived atop fresh whipped cream with maraschino cherries and chocolate drizzle around the plate. We were expecting mochi balls/cubes and were surprised by green tea and mango ice cream wrapped in mochi and that was pretty cool...but, perhaps it was our fault for letting them sit while we were enjoying conversation, as the ice cream was a little softer and the mochi was a little softer than we would have preferred. That being said the flavors were subtle, not overly sweet, and nice, particularly the mango. At the end of the night, I found our bill to be reasonable and the experience just right. I'm definitely up for coming back to Nori and trying so many different things on their huge menu! read more

My order of gomae-ae was one of the best I have had around Chicago. It wasn't slathered in peanut sauce like they often are and had delicious flavor. It was fabulous for a girl like me trying to do the healthy living thing. I also had a variety of sashimi that was plated just beautifully and served nice & fresh. They even added slices of avocado onto my plate which was a sweet addition! Everyone's dishes were plated so nicely looking like artwork on the plate. I love gorgeous plating for sushi. When we arrived around 6pm, it was desolate but upon leaving at 8pm, Nori was jam packed! My friends and I came on an impulse move Saturday because they love the sushi here. We made a reservation for 6:30 and got seated right away. To start off we ordered the agedashi tofu and the fried calamari. The tofu was soft and silky which was tasty but it could be a bit more fried on the outside. It'd be nice if they added some green onions and grated daikon on top too! The fried calamari was perfect for me because I couldn't taste the squid at all. The honey wasabi dipping sauce was excellent and they were nice enough to give us extra sauce on the side. I got the Japanese curry entree which to my surprise was HUGE. It comes with a fairly hefty portion of tossed salad with ginger sauce, miso soup, a scoop of Japanese potato salad, a scoop of rice, two HUGE cutlets of meat (I got chicken) which was breaded and fried perfectly, and a big bowl of curry with potato, carrots, and asparagus. Dare I say I loved every bite of it. The meal was so large that when I asked for a to-go box, the server thought I didn't like the food and that's why I didn't eat any of it....Quite the opposite actually!
