(This was my husband's experience a while back ago, but after his visit here, every time I suggested him to get a hair cut, he is always doubtful and immediately turns down the idea of coming here again.) My husband has longer hair than most men. He went here to get his hair cleaned up and wanted it cut back 2 inches, but they ended up cutting off way more than 2 inches and he came out with short hair, which was not what he wanted at all. He was devastated as it took him so long to grow his hair out to the length he wanted. Unfortunately after the first cut was made it was too late to turn back and correct them about what he wanted for his hair. He hasn't come back here since that experience. Maybe we just came over during an off day, but regardless he has no plans of coming back to this barber shop and his experience left him very upset. read more

Holy f**** sh**!!!! The worst haircut I've ever gotten!!! I spent 4 months growing out my hair! 4. Freaking. Months. I was a walk in since I was waiting for an oil change across the street. I walked in, the guy at the front desk asked if I wanted to trim the sides and a little off the top, I said yes. Then he asked his scheduled customer if he could wait while he did my haircut real quick. Maybe some people would be fine with that but I don't want my barber to rush his work. Anyway, another barber ends up taking me. I tell him I want a comb over and 3-4 on the sides. He then asks: and a little of the top? Me: yes. Mind you I spent 4 months growing my hair!!!!!! At the end, I look like an idiot who had his hair done by his 4 year old niece!!! Barber: I took a lot off the top because you had a lot of hair ??????? You literally asked me if I wanted a LITTLE OFF THE TOP?!?!?! Anyways, the worst part the entire haircut was so fucking uneven that I can't even comb it over because one part is short another part is long. ALWAYS ask if your customer wants a round or a square back! He took the liberty to do it round and brought it up way too high!!! I had to go to another barber and just do a skin fade with a 2 on the top.... 4 months worth of hair is gone just like that. 24 for a cut and 3-4 for a tip. The shop is really nice and clean and maybe other barbers actually know wtf they're doing but not mine! I mean I can't even comb my hair cuz it's so short and uneven when I had 4 months of hair coming in and told him just a little of the top and the back was brought up way too high!! I said I needed to keep it professional and ended getting a skin fade at a different shop to fix all this bs! Extremely disappointed!!!! Don't think I've ever used this many exclamation marks in a review lmao EDIT: The owner reached out to me. He was very apologetic and offered a full refund. Big props to the way they run the business. Thus a change from one to 3 stars. Can't give 5 stars or 4 as it means nearly perfect experience. But that barber definitely needs a check. Suavecito, Layrite and a few others... I went here on the sneak attack, on my own to pick up a pomade for him, SURPRISE.. this place is cool, and actually really cool inside, like climate controlled as well... I just sat down on the big couch there and absorbed the vibe, the black and white checkered floor... Anyways, a friendly barber helped me out with questions and hair texture, and helped me pick the best pomade out... pretty reasonably priced, 12 bones for a jar of Suavecito... I can't rate on the cuts, but they helped me out with product... Parking can be tricky, I recommend parking along Adams Ave and walking if you can't find a spot in front of the shop. My brother took me to the shop that Julian was working in at the time. I was happier with his cut, than I had been with any given to me locally in the Bay Area (where I lived at the time), so logically, when I moved back to San Diego in May of 2014 I paid him another visit. So, a year and a half ago my barber left town. What am I going to do? Well you turn to Yelp ofcourse and that's where I found Normal Heights Barber Shop. It got great reviews, was ranked among the top ten barbers in San Diego and was close to my home in City Heights. So I booked an appointment. When I arrived it looked like a quaint little cottage just off the main drag of Adams ave in Normal Heights. Upon entering it had a cool, relaxed vibe that made you feel right at home. I was greeted by Daniel who just happened to be my barber. I explained to him what kind of a cut I was looking for and he got it right away. I was very satisfied with the result and knew right away that I had found my new home! I changed my look a couple of times along the way and Daniel rolled with the punches and got it right each time! Daniel is awesome and judging by the look of the other customers , you cant go wrong with any of the barbers you choose! One very minor point. I like getting a shampoo and a hot towell its very relaxing. The last month there has been a plumbing problem so they were unable to provide that but I am sure that is something that will be fixed very shortly. Oh and I forgot to mention the price...at least ten dollars cheaper than many of the higher class places! It's so hard to find a good barber that you can stick with for a long period of time. This place has got it right. Been going here once my friend graduated from barber school and got licensed. I'm not afraid to leave a place and go somewhere else if I don't like the cut, because I've done it with other salons or barbershops, who also had friends that cut my hair. You get in, you get your cut, joke around for a good thirty minutes, then it's back home to the wife and son. They serve beer here as well, so if you're looking for a relaxing cut this is the place. The music is kinda all over the place in regards to genre, which doesn't bother me and I actually like. It's usually some Johnny Cash or 60s rock and roll.
