Went in Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Visiting from the Bay for a wedding and my man needed a clean up! Called and they were easy going and available for walk-in! The spot had ample seating (couches and plenty of chairs). Music was fun and the staff was friendly and even offered refreshments to both of us. Just from observation, every barber is meticulous about their work and thoroughly clean their tools and space. Highly recommend this spot, A+ customer service and experience. read more

Great local barbershop . Stylists are friendly and very knowledgeable. Ray and Ivan run a very professional business, always with the upmost of class and professionalism. There are 6 barbers there and all are very good! You will leave with a fresh cut! Prices are reasonable! Walk ins are welcomed , but making an appointment is a good idea. Not to count the inappropriate conversations that go on between the barbers, the experience at that place was awful. I had to go back home and fix the hair and beard myself. Clearly they need some serious training before cutting people's hair! Gave them one chance, never again! read more

Very dope place. They have a couple TVs in there to watch sports when they are on. Evan cut my hair, everyone in there is very talented and super relaxed. The environment is friendly. There are 2 very comfortable couches to wait on If there is a wait. Everytime I've been during the daytime though there wasn't a wait for maybe 1 person in front of me. They have beer and water for you to drink, for free, while you're waiting or getting your cut. I've posted a photo of the menu so you can see the prices. You wont be disappointed at all. Parking is always available. Dont try to spot the place from the street you have to park and just walk around the corner. It's on the bottom floor of a business complex. read more

I've had haircuts across the entire United States from NYC to San Francisco and a few in San Diego. A lot of these cuts have also been great cuts. With all that in consideration, this is the best cut I've ever head hands down. Haircuts are normally pretty solid. Never go to David, however. Would rather attempt to cut my own hair before having him cut my hair again. Worst haircut of my life; I wouldn't even let him cut my dogs hair. read more

I've never really stuck with a barbershop before, but this is one I'll keep. The vibes are great, everyone is so familiar and it feels so close- it never feels uncomfortable to talk, or pressured at all. When I had to reschedule, the staff were super easygoing, and there were no problems whatsoever. Not to mention the haircuts- perfect. Fadi even gave me some styling tips the last time I went. I've only been a couple of times, but both Fadi and Evan are great guys, and the service and vibe are wonderful here. I'll definitely continue to go. Oh, there's also free beer on tap. read more

I had an amazing experience with my barber. Colton. He was super chill and very good at his skill. I was referred from Dino on Adams. I felt chill and vibed with everyone in the shop. It was comfortable. And after this cut, I will go back. Next time, I'll Yelp with real pics ( with permission ). I enjoyed my experience. Try it. The VIBE was comforting. Fortuitously, through a common acquaintance I had met Evan Alyadako during the pandemic in 2020 and I would not think of seeing someone else. I would even make the drive down if I were back in Newport Beach. Easy and flexible scheduling, the shop is newly remodeled, spacious, comfortable and clean, and the entire staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Beyond the exceptional service, they have a large screen TV for sporting events and a two-tap bar with Stella Artois and one other to have while you wait. read more

I don't really write reviews, I only give stars but for this service I'm gonna make an exception. I have never been this excited with my haircut. To say I'm satisfied is an understatement. I am truly amazed by what Kenny achieved for me. It was a great experience having my first haircut in 9 months as I intend to grow my hair long. Kenny created a beautiful mullet for me. One that truly fitted me and really looks good! Everything is great. From the conversation, to the environment to the finished haircut. Such an amazing experience. Been slacking on my grooming game and have not been here since the renovation and the place looks great ! I made an appointment with whoever was available and got hooked up with Sam . Dude is a legend and got my hair and beard looking tight like prom night . I'm definitely only trusting him with my hair and beard . For $25 ($50 for hair and beard trim) a one $ pricing isn't justifiable. Can't comment on your quality I'm sure you have excellent skills. I would feel misled if I hadn't called ahead and still feel it's misleading when several shops near are higher $$ ratings and lower cost. read more

Picking a barber is like picking a doctor. You want to pick one who is reliable, reputable and good at what he does. I highly recommend atop Cutts Barber Shop. Ray and his partner always welcome their customers with a warm embrace. They offer an assortment of beverages for your enjoyment while you wait. It's always happy hour in their shop. But the best part is Ray remembers your hairstyle. He remembers how you like it styled. He remembers that you enjoy a hotel towel on your face after your shave. This place has the best service from the haircuts to the customer service. I came here from a recommendation of a friend and this will now be my new PERMANENT barber shop. My hair has never looked better. The fade was perfectly done. They have a nice seating area along with a clean work station. I been to many barber shops just looking for the right haircut. I'm not one to leave a review for places, but feel like I have to on this place because I was fooled into going here based on the 4.5 rating. This was honestly the worst haircut I have ever received. I've had plenty of bad haircuts, where I think, okay, it will grow back and be fine...but when I saw the butcher job here, I wanted to puke. I told the guy a few times how I wanted my hair...that I comb it back and to the side. when he was cutting the top, he asked about the length, showing about 2" that he would leave... I told him longer, that I wanted more like 2.5-3". Instead, my hair is now .5-1", depending on which side of my head you're measuring...due to the cut being completely lopsided. So my hair is now too short to comb, or do anything with. On top of that, he shaved my hair down in the back, and didn't know how to work a cowlick, so now the hair on the back of my head sticks up like a peacock. I've included two pictures... the first one is what my hair is supposed to look like after a cut, the second one is after going to this place. I've tried wetting it down, using product...there is nothing I can do to work with what they gave me. Only option for me at this point is to invest in a hat collection until I can go somewhere to fix this mess. If you really need a cut, and this is your only option, I would recommend cutting it yourself. read more

I can't recommend this place enough! I recently moved to San Diego and it's always stressful finding a new barber but Evan really took his time learning exactly what I wanted from the cut. I asked to buy bear oil for my dad. The lady with the pink hair didn't know the correct price and I overheard her ask the employee who was getting her hair washed the price. Once the employee was done getting her hair washed she was obnoxiously rude & told us the establishment was closes at 7pm; it was two min after closing time, but I replied to her all doors were open and signs were out. Her tone of voice and demeanor was aggressive and didn't seem she wanted to serve us as customers. I left the product on the counter and ordered it on Amazon, which was much cheaper. Do better and tell employees not to do hair until the establishment is closed meaning all doors and signs are put away. Shop appeared to be clean, but customer service was hostile and aggressive.

I really never write reviews but Top Cuts Barbershop is hands down one of the best barbershops I've been to, and Alvin is the real deal. From the moment you sit in his chair, you can tell he actually cares about getting your cut exactly right. He takes his time, pays attention to detail, and makes sure everything is clean, even, and sharp before you leave. Alvin really listens to what you want, but he'll also give honest advice if something will look better or fit your head shape and hair type more. My fades have been perfect every time, and the lineup work is always super crisp. I've never walked out disappointed. On top of that, he's professional, easy to talk to, and keeps a chill, welcoming vibe the whole appointment. The shop itself is clean and well run, which makes the whole experience even better. When I went to get my hair cut, I explained how it would be cut and what to look for, and he responded positively to everything. But when I started cutting my hair, it didn't start as I'd described, and I was suspicious because I always cut my hair the same way, and it never started like that. I showed him the photo on my phone and showed him the video, and he said he understood and told me not to worry. But I saw that you were getting worse, and I had no solution. I started coming here because my son takes piano lessons upstairs and at first it was just convenient- but man do these guys do a great job! Today was my first time at that shop it was chill in there once you get to that seat they make you feel like home they offer you drinks like water. They ask on how you want it they communicate with you etc. they actually pay attention to the haircut instead of talking to people one of the best barbershops I've been there he got down with my haircut. read more

This is the only place I get my haircut for a reason. Ray always does a phenomenal job and is also a really nice guy. I followed him when he left the old shop and started working here. Through the entirety of my…read moreadult life, I've had this problem with black barbers basically wanting to give you one of two types of hairstyles. Either they're going to cut your hair to a skull cut which means they're damn near gonna make you bald. Or, they're gonna do some type of braid or lock thing so that the brothers can connect back to nature. To me the natural form of a black person's hair is un-braided, un-locked, and (most definitely) not completely cut off. I had given up hope on barbers. But, I still just wanted someone to give me a decent shaped Afro without making it into the flat whopper sandwich shaped haircut I consistently have gotten when asking to just have my Afro shaped properly and neatly. I spoke to the owner of this particular for barbershop prior to showing up. He assured me that they were there and they'd be working a reasonable amount of time and I could come and get my hair cut. Once there I spoke to him, but he quickly finished up with the customer he was with, and I ended up getting my haircut by a different person. Red flag! Anytime you get handed off to someone else other than the person that sold you on the program, things are not gonna go well. Anytime the business operator listens to you layout your concerns about getting your hair done the right way and they hand you off to someone else, you begin to wonder if the person really took what you said seriously? Are they giving lip service but maybe just playing along? I think the second barber that I was handed off to, after listening to my description of my experiences with previous haircuts to the owner, was not only awkward, but I think he was a little fearful of me. Because I did show some passion for the concerns I was raising. But it's only to say to the person please don't give me that bullshit haircut that barbers like to give people that ask for their Afro to be preserved instead of eradicated! The haircut that I got was something closer than to what I would want yet wasn't quite there. I could tell by the way the barber talked and the way he acted that he was really uncomfortable. So, when he thought he was done, I left it at that. Pursuing any further refinement could lead to me losing the bulk of my hair. Fortunately, for me where he stopped still left me with a substantial portion of my hair. This might be the last black barber I ever go to! I realize I would probably get better treatment if I were getting my hair done by a woman. Because men -- especially black men -- particularly black men -- really do think that their hair is something to be gotten rid of. I believe my hair is precious. That may be why Ethiopian women tend to look at me and think I'm a relative of theirs. These are generally light skin people with long hair and they do not believe in cutting off all their hair. Their men may get short haircuts at times. Other times they may wear Afros. They seem to value their hair. P.S. I don't know why Yelp jumbled all of the pictures that I added. They were in order - now they're all mixed up. Those reading the review will have to read the captions to each picture. Still just to help you out the haircut I got from this barbershop Blends Headquarters on El Cajon Blvd are the ones with the long Afro, which should be about four pictures. 2 to 3 other haircuts that I got from other barbers none were not good haircuts. There's probably a total of 10 to 12 from those haircuts. One of me in a black button up shirt is a tapered haircut I gave myself as damage control from one the endless log of bad haircuts. Finally, there are four pictures I pulled from online. This not only show the person reading this review fresh but it also shows the owner if he reads this post that I've looked online and I've seen multiple haircuts that look pretty good. And here are some of them. Yet, when you go in to a barbershop these days, you don't see the charts that used display various haircuts -- We're not all professional barbers. We don't all know the lingo or what type of hairstyle fits which description. It helps to have pictures that you can look at if you're not yourself a professionally trained barber and do not know all the terminology this industry uses.
