This was my first time trying out the Normandie Bakery Cafe. And it was delicious , I ordered an Iced Latte with Whipped Cream and a Fresca Chicken Salad with Avocado. ( Btw i added the celery sticks at home xD ) And i ordered a Lasagna for my great-aunt and she loved it! Service was great , the cashier / server lady was very attentive and kind. Everything was yummy! Food was fresh and delicious! - They have a great selection of pastries & cakes & other baked goods. This bakery WAS nostalgic for me. My mom use to get me a cinnamon roll before dropping me off at school. I recently visited the bakery years later after moving from California. I knew exactly what I wanted, so I ordered 3 cinnamon rolls and a pan au chocolat for old times sake. When it came time to check out my grand total was $28.90 for 4 pastries. What the heck. That's absolutely insane. Sad to say the pan au chocolate was lackluster and was flat and chocolate was overly sweet and small (for $7.25???) Not Parisian at all. COCHRAN & JEFFERSON LOCATION I was at home sick and asked my husband to stop by the Normandie bakery to pick up liver pate. Pate is supposed to have copper in it and at this time my body is in need of copper. I called ahead to place an order for pate, French onion soup, and the beef burgundy. A French woman answers the phone and was stern and rude and told us not to show up to the restaurant before 30 minutes. I explained this to my husband and he made sure not to show up prior to that time. He picked up the food and to my surprise the order came up to over $100. By the time he got home I was excited to try the pate, however it was rancid. Spoiled beyond belief with discoloration and spoiled juice running from it and the smell was unbelievable. I was so embarrassed because I knew that I could not eat this, but did not want to return it because the French woman was so rude initially on the order. My sweet husband said if it's spoiled just call them and I will return it for you. One of the workers answered the phone and told me to come back and they would be open until 430. My husband went and returned the pate, but he said he was greeted abruptly with chef Jozette, who told him that the pate wasn't spoiled and forcibly told him come back to the kitchen yelling at him all the way. This did not help her situation because she showed him a big block of what it look like spoiled food and told him that "oh this is not good for my business. Don't say my pate is spoiled, I can take this over to my restaurant on third and sell it right now!' she says. He said "I am a customer and if I say this is spoiled it spoiled I want my money back." He received the return from the chef and told her that I (his wife) would call her to let her know more about what my experience was. She told him "well I won't have time" and he told her, well, "she will write a review" and this is the review. We will never be back. I've experienced this place 20 years ago, but it was so much better. My husband had such a bad experience that he did not even eat his $33 beef Burgundy. I ate the French onion soup, but it was lackluster, however, it was better than the pate. The pate is absolutely gross. The chef really puts a downer on the ambience of the restaurant and the food is not what it used to be. Terrible experience. read more

I knew I was in trouble when I called the bakery to place our Christmas order and they told me to email them, and then when I emailed them they told me to call that is the first sign you are in for a bad process. We placed an order for Christmas over the phone with the Chef about a week before Christmas. When we arrived on Christmas Eve, it wasn't ready for pick up. They said they thought it was probably at the other location which is impossible because when I placed the call, I said I needed to pick it up at the Jones on third location Chef Josette said she completely understood and that was perfect. I had to make due with whatever they had in the case-- this was after watching the woman in front of us go through the exact same thing. THEN I got a message later on Christmas Eve saying I didn't pick up my order and was going to be charged. So we were effectively double charged for non-custom desserts. This bakery is so disorganized with their holiday orders we will never ever go there again. What a disaster. read more

LOVE this place! And I love Josette, who never ages. Such a spunky, bouncy person. The BEST croissants and baguettes this side of Paris. Josette old me that she sells up to (more than??) 2,000 baguettes a day, because she furnishes so many restaurants. I noticed the neighbors also drop by for bread or pastry. Hot coffee in the morning on the front counter. Josette bought this place in 1989 and the bakery/restaurant has been bustling ever since, keeping Angelenos on the westside full of delectible French goodies. This year, she is catering one of the Oscar parties in Hollywood. She has been awarded for excellent business practices by the French Consul General of Los Angeles at a banquet held in her honor. Go for a casual breakfast. Most (all?) of the tables are outside, along a covered front patio. HAVE A CROISSANT. Did I mention that? That they are the BEST CROISSANTS THIS SIDE OF PARIS?? Ok, then... The omelets are also superb. Or go for lunch. Delicious specials that change daily. And have a croissant... Almost forgot to mention the delectible pastries, which are displayed in a case in the small front space. (Behind is a humongous kitchen where the magic happens.) I bought some pear tarts for my Swiss neighbor, and she said they tasted just like her mother used to make. Sometimes you get lucky and get there just when the croissants are coming out of the oven. Incomparable. Ham and cheese croissants, chocolate croissants, cakes, pies, and gourmet French cheeses. You just gotta get here. Parking sucks but you can figure it out. This woman is a scam and trying to pull a fast one on the patrons of Toast Bakery on W Third Street, She took Toast over from the previous owner BUT KEPT THE TOAST NAME (I'm assuming because it's a 18 year old iconic LA cafe and she wanted to benefit from the name recognition)... yea, nice try!! She has completely gutted the Toast menu which now has extremely poor quality food and 1/5 of the selection. Any remaining items are completely different and taste disgusting. She has also plastered her face all over the restaurant, including a cardboard cutout of herself (talk about an ego!). Here's some advice- if you're taking over a well known establishment and making such DRASTIC changes to every aspect of the place, CHANGE THE NAME!! I first met the owner and chef, Josette, in Las Vegas over 15 years ago when she had a restaurant and bakery called Normandie there. We were regulars, and hosted colleagues and friends there when they'd come to Las Vegas for business or pleasure. LAST AND FINAL TIME SUPPORTING THIS BUSINESS. You can only get so many chances and still disappoint. This last visit my sister and I stopped by to pick up some pastries. Chef Suzette's partner the blonde heavy set one is soooooo miserable and rude. We walked in and patiently waited as one of the kitchen staff went to get her as no one was there to greet or assist customers entering. As she walked up we pleasantly said hello and told her that we were interested in getting some pastries. As we told her the first item we wanted she immediately began packaging. Didn't even give us a chance to finish placing our order. Never asked if we were done. We proceeded to tell her the next items we want. She did it again. We told her that we're not done ordering from the display and that there were a few more items we'd like to get. She abruptly fired off with an attitude, "IF YOU DON'T MIND GIVING ME YOUR ORDER ALL AT ONCE!!!" My sister and I looked at each and decided that were done. We turned around and walked out empty handed. We were not going to to be disrespected and still patronize this business. Since that incident we've been going up the street to the new Whole Foods Market on La Cienega Boulevard which is literally only a 2 minute drive away. They have daily fresh baked breads, cakes and pastries. A bar with plenty of dining space, a buffet full of healthy lunch options, including a deli, pizza and Mexican food section. The entire store is full of pleasant and helpful staff, and parking is abundant. As good as Normandies pastries are there customer service has got do a whole lot better. read more

Just had a delicious tuna melt on a fresh baguette with coffee and a fruit crème brûlée. I saw a couple of people leave with about 10 large baguettes. Never have I felt so disrespected by anyone in customer service, in my entire life. Stopped in for a last minute gift for my mom's birthday. Picked up what looks like some kind of vacuum-sealed bag of a marinated red-colored piece of poultry. I ask this "lady" what exactly it is, very politely mind you, and here is how the conversation went: "(Smiling) What is this?-- chicken or duck?" "(Scowling) It's chicken." "What kind of chicken?" "(Impatiently) Roasted chicken." "(Growing impatient) What KIND of roasted chicken? It's obviously marinated in some kind of sauce/ seasoning" (While grumbling and rolling her eyes, she asks the chef in the back...) "Paprika." "Okay..... (thinking, 'That wasn't so hard now, was it') Thank you." Kinda peeves me when a place has NO prices for any of their products. Makes me feel like they size you up when you walk in and charge what they want. So now I'm looking at all the whatever looking pastries, desperately trying to find a few things to gift. Fruit tarts, tiramisu, etc. Having to ask the damn price for everything, and what exactly everything is since there are no labels or any info. She's obviously getting more and more frustrated from not knowing shit, waddles to the back to get the actual chef (an older Latino gentleman who is much friendlier), whom I ask the price of a small cake. He tells me $25, and immediately afterwards she barks, "NO, it's $26. Nothing is $25." Then procedes with, "Everything is expensive, honey"-- I tell her, "I can afford it." Her response: "oh really because you keep asking for all the prices" Hmm. Wow! Hold up, bitch. This is when I tell her that I own a business, a restaurant actually, and that she does not belong in customer service. And that she must be family, because who the Fuck would ever hire you? And that the actual owner of this bakery, "Chef Josette" or whatever probably wouldn't want her talking to customers this way. I told her I would never be stepping foot in there again, directly because of her. When I asked what her name was, after a long pause, she begrudgingly tells me it's "Jackie" (Jacqui?). Also. This was me popping in after 3 or 4 years. Ate here once and regretted it. Overpriced for incredibly underwhelming food. Easily the worst eggs Benny I've ever had. The waitress was not friendly and the service was slow. Still, I was never going to leave a negative review. Another thing. For claiming the best baguette in the city, it sure tastes like overly bleached and dough conditioned bullshit with no crust or air bubbles, that any supermarket chain does better. Better yet, patronize your local panadería and get 3 bolillos for a buck. You'll be MUCH more satisfied. This place tries too hard to be "Bougie" when it is actually just a dusty-ass tacky hole in the wall where stale pastries are sold and rude shitty people work. And I honestly LIKE hole-in-the-walls!! NEVER AGAIN. I ordered a pate sandwich and it was pretty much the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. I like pate but there were big chunks and it wasn't tasty. The bread was good but the cornichons were whole and they fell out while was trying to eat it along with the chunks of pate. There was no mustard on the sandwich although the menu listed it as an ingredient. I ended up just giving the pate to my dog since it pretty much looked and smelled like dog food.
