    Turkey
    Eli L.

This is by far the best Turkey I have ever had in my life. I have always hated turkey but my God this was so beautifully cooked , seasoned absolutely amazing. I am so in love with this turkey!!!! If you aren't catering a turkey from here for thanksgiving you do not know what you are missing. Best Turkey ever, juicy, and literally falls off the bone for how tender it is!!!! And excuse the presentation it was a long bumpy drive.

Iced Cafe Latte with Whipped Cream (: & A Fresca Chicken Salad , everything was delicious

This was my first time trying out the Normandie Bakery Cafe. And it was delicious , I ordered an Iced Latte with Whipped Cream and a Fresca Chicken Salad with Avocado. ( Btw i added the celery sticks at home xD ) And i ordered a Lasagna for my great-aunt and she loved it! Service was great , the cashier / server lady was very attentive and kind. Everything was yummy! Food was fresh and delicious! - They have a great selection of pastries & cakes & other baked goods. As well as Jams and Fruit Preserves , & Imported Italian Candy , & many other snacks & goodies. :D - I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Chef : Josette LeBlond , She's really sweet and nice! (: - Place is cute and decorated pretty. Love the vibe. Hidden gem :3 ( well sorta hidden but ykwim ) Friendly Service & Staff , Clean establishment, and more importantly Good Food. (: Prices are moderate & imo the food speaks for itself. (: - I Definitely recommend this place. I was pleased in the service , visual presentation , quality , and taste. I'd rate The Normandie Bakery Cafe a Solid 4.7 / 5 Stars (: Keep up the good work! You definitely gained a new customer today! haha :3

So after trying the chocolate mousse birthday cake and my verdict is as follows: the outer layer of chocolate was delicious and tasted of high quality chocolate. The cake itself was a bit dry and the 'chocolate mousse' layer had a bit of a rubbery texture.

LOVE this place! And I love Josette, who never ages. Such a spunky, bouncy person. The BEST croissants and baguettes this side of Paris. Josette old me that she sells up to (more than??) 2,000 baguettes a day, because she furnishes so many restaurants. I noticed the neighbors also drop by for bread or pastry. Hot coffee in the morning on the front counter. Josette bought this place in 1989 and the bakery/restaurant has been bustling ever since, keeping Angelenos on the westside full of delectible French goodies. This year, she is catering one of the Oscar parties in Hollywood. She has been awarded for excellent business practices by the French Consul General of Los Angeles at a banquet held in her honor. Go for a casual breakfast. Most (all?) of the tables are outside, along a covered front patio. HAVE A CROISSANT. Did I mention that? That they are the BEST CROISSANTS THIS SIDE OF PARIS?? Ok, then... The omelets are also superb. Or go for lunch. Delicious specials that change daily. And have a croissant... Almost forgot to mention the delectible pastries, which are displayed in a case in the small front space. (Behind is a humongous kitchen where the magic happens.) I bought some pear tarts for my Swiss neighbor, and she said they tasted just like her mother used to make. Sometimes you get lucky and get there just when the croissants are coming out of the oven. Incomparable. Ham and cheese croissants, chocolate croissants, cakes, pies, and gourmet French cheeses. You just gotta get here. Parking sucks but you can figure it out. If it's a slow day (rare) you can park right in front. Josette, I love you!!! xox Stay who you are and continue to delight us with your treats for years to come!

This place saved my daughters 17th birthday! I was down to the last couple days and didn't know where to celebrate my daughters 17th. I drove by and saw a sign that said have your next party with us, so I popped in! I spoke with the owner-a French chef named Josette, who was so good to me! She helped me plan a brunch for 20 guest and made my daughters request of a strawberries & cream cake! Side note: The ham & cheese quiche was DIVINE!! Thank you Chef Josette for making our celebration so special and all for a much more reasonable price! Xoxo

    Normandie Cafe @ Toast Cafe ?? #scam

This woman is a scam and trying to pull a fast one on the patrons of Toast Bakery on W Third Street, She took Toast over from the previous owner BUT KEPT THE TOAST NAME (I'm assuming because it's a 18 year old iconic LA cafe and she wanted to benefit from the name recognition)... yea, nice try!! She has completely gutted the Toast menu which now has extremely poor quality food and 1/5 of the selection. Any remaining items are completely different and taste disgusting. She has also plastered her face all over the restaurant, including a cardboard cutout of herself (talk about an ego!). Here's some advice- if you're taking over a well known establishment and making such DRASTIC changes to every aspect of the place, CHANGE THE NAME!! Toast now is giving off scam vibes and this woman is clearly spearheading the whole thing. The food tastes like crap and I'm sure the food here does as well.

I have experienced the best service and most welcoming customer service in a long time. Josette and her staff were pretty amazing. I'm always returning for their well sculpted Croquembouche which is a cream puff tower of fresh goodness which is unique and great for any special occasion. It's definitely a hidden gem and is also worth checking out for lunch and dessert.

A friend recommended this place to get a good pastry. Otherwise, I would have never found it. It's not in a very conspicuous place. I ordered a French onion soup and bread pudding. I ate the bread pudding in my car. I only meant to take a quick bite but I couldn't stop myself. The French onion soup was just luscious. One of the best!!

They said tres leches this came was dry and had a geltine like white pudding in the middle very awful
    Anush O.

I would not recommend anyone coming here . They are expensive and have no idea how to make cake or pies We orders pecan pie and tres leches . How does one mess up on a tres leches idk Don't go here make the drive go to Porto's

Got seated on the patio on a beautiful day, so we were perfectly happy. After a quick glance at the menu, our recommendations from our server, we decided to order. We started with the escargot, as one does at a French restaurant, and the French onion soup. The escargot cube bathed in butter, garlic and parsley and were very tasty. I mean, how can they not be when bathed in garlic and butter? The French onion soup was also delicious with ample gruyere cheese overflowing. Pure indulgence! For entrees, we all tried something different. The steak frites were.... steak frites. If you've tried one, you've tried most, so not very memorable. The duck confit was cooked well and not overly fatty, which was nice. The omelette, let me say, is beautiful to look at. You almost don't want to touch it because it is very picrure-esque, and absolutely cooked perfectly. A, dare I say, perfect omelette. Finally was the Big Mec. Now, there are a lot of good burgers in Los Angeles, but the Big Mec is one of the greats. So much flavor with the double wagyu patties, cheese, special sauce all while sitting in a Bordelaise sauce. It isn't something you would eat every day, as it is heavy, but it is phenomenal when you do. I'd say one of the top five burgers in Los Angeles, in my humble opinion. Overall, delicious French restaurant in Hollywood, a little above Hancock Park, serving delicious food. Get the escargot and French onion soup to start, and definitely get the omelette and the Big Mec, you will not be disappointed.

Ended up eating most of the wagyu and burger separately as I am a messy eater. Fries were delicious as they were last year during our first visit. Wagyu was buttery and soft though, which lets me know I need to make haste and come back to try the steak frites. :) Banana cream pie had a lot of flavors - some sourness from the banana ice cream, toasted coconut praline dust, and coconut caramel - some chunks of banana were more ripe than others. Would opt for the creme brulee next time! Service was good, water constantly refilled during this very rich meal. The bathroom, however, did get clogged towards the end of our meal so I did not get to wash my grubby hands post meal. I think we need to limit the amount of toilet paper available in the bathroom because there is an insane amount of tp in the bathroom.

You can really tell that the food and ingredients are super high quality! As for what we ordered: - Escargots (5/5), no notes - super flavorful and tasty standard escargots done right! - French onion soup (5/5): the cheese was nicely melted and the soup was rich. Classic choice, can't go wrong! - Duck confit (5/5): never had this before but oh man it was so good! The duck skin was light and crispy, not oily at all and the duck was juicy. The flavors shined throughout and the purées complimented the duck really nicely. Super balanced dish - Beef Bourguignon (4/5): I wanted to love this more but I think the wine sauce was too overpowering. An Absolute Masterpiece of a Lunch!…read more My friend was visiting from New York, and I wanted to take her somewhere truly special for lunch. Since it was our first time at République, we didn't quite know what to expect, but we were completely blown away! From the atmosphere to the service and, of course, the food--everything was flawless. The Main Event Blueberry Pancake: My friend ordered this, and it was huge and incredibly delicious. A total crowd-pleaser. Filipino Pork Belly Adobo: I ordered this and was so impressed by how rich and deeply flavorful it was. Absolutely delicious. World-Class Service & Hospitality The service here is incredibly efficient, but what really made our day was the staff. Rambo took care of us and he was fantastic--so pleasant, attentive, and proactive with everything we needed. We also had the absolute pleasure of meeting the owner! It was so impressive to see her on the floor working just as hard as the rest of the team. She was incredibly nice and you can tell she truly cares; we watched her personally ensure the quality of the dishes was on point before they ever left the kitchen. That level of dedication explains why this place is so successful. Do Not Skip Dessert! Before you leave, you must hit the pastry counter. We grabbed a few things to try, and they were sinfully good: Kouign-Amann: Flaky, caramelized perfection. Basque Cheesecake: Rich, creamy, and beautifully baked. Chewy Chocolate Cookie: Perfectly textured and decadent. We had such a beautiful experience here. République lived up to the hype and then some. We will definitely be back, and we're bringing our friends and family next time!

The food was INCREDIBLE and I was SO pleasantly surprised by how much food there was! We ended up with soooooo many leftovers! Family style meals always make me a little nervous, but the portions were plentiful and all of our guests left completely stuffed. The bread and butter was a standout, as well as the corn puff pastry appetizer (I can't remember exactly what it was called!). The steak and chicken main courses were to die for and the strawberry tiramasu was incredible. I could go on and on about the food. It really exceeded our expectations. Jared, our server was WONDERFUL. He was so attentive and on top of things. He communicated with my husband and I whenever he needed to and made our entire dinner so seamless and fun. The only downside to the experience was in planning the evening. I struggled a bit when it came to communicating with Sandra in the days/weeks leading up to our dinner. I didn't feel like we were a priority and often had to call or email multiple times to get a response. I found that to be very frustrating, especially because it was such an important part of our wedding and in the days leading up to getting married, the last thing I wanted to be doing was waiting on an email from the restaurant or hunting down a response about our beverage menu. I was also really bummed to see that when we got to the restaurant, our dinner menu had the wrong date printed on it. I wanted to bring one of the menus home as a keepsake, but it felt pointless when I saw the typo. There were also drinks on the beverage menu that we had never discussed, which was another disappointment. It ultimately didn't ruin our overall experience, but I think it's worth noting for other people planning larger dinner parties at Republique because I do wish a little more care had been taken on the restaurant's end while planning our dinner.

Chicken Liver Mousse - It's like, interesting. Very small appetizer of sorts. Chicken Liver on a tiny piece of toast. Bite-sized. Realistically, might not feel worth the $14 price tag, but heck, we're also here to have a culinary experience of sorts, right? If you don't care for liver and you want actual substantial food, then you can probably skip it. Pork Chop w/ Hot Mustard crust - It was very good! Pork chop was very juicy and delicious. The exterior crust was crispy at some points, and it lead to a very delightful texture. The entree is also tastefully complimented with slices of peaches and fennel. I was very pleased with it. Sweet Potato Gratin - To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of sweet potato. Despite that, I thought it was still pretty good. It also pairs really well with the Pork Chop. Mines came out a little late after I had already finished the Pork, but I still had some pieces of the Pork Chop's crust layer which paired *really* well with the Gratin. If you love sweet potato, you will definitely enjoy this. If you're so-so about sweet potato, it's still pretty good. Abalone and Scallops Pot Pie - This was my favorite. Honestly, if I could order a bigger bowl that was twice the size filled with twice the Abalone and Scallops, I would be over the moon. I love both ingredients, and the "snail butter" complements really well with them. (Snail butter is the same thing they would use with escargot, only without the escargot. I think it's butter with parsley, garlic and shallots) There's a slice of lemon too you can add as well. I alternated bites of the puff pastry lid and the seafood filling, and when I ran out of the latter, I'd dip the puff pastry into the snail butter. It's really good! The service was very friendly and on-par with what I'd expect from a fancier restaurant. My sweet potato gratin was supposed to pair with the pork chops but came out a bit late (even though these are technically two separate dishes) and they were super apologetic about it. I didn't really mind it (although it would have been nice) but I could tell that they are trying to hold themselves to a higher standard because of the interaction. Honestly, I was pretty impressed and while it didn't blow my mind, I wouldn't mind coming back if fate dictates.

They have a course meal, but we decided to order a bunch of plates and share to try more during our visit. Chicken Liver Mousse Toast - For those open to trying new things, this was surprisingly good. Honestly I can be a little picky, so the name made me nervous, but after a bitch, it was really good. You have the citrus from the yuzu, the fatty duck liver, and then a daikon to balance it all out Grilled oyster mushrooms - Very chewy and came with a slightly sweet sauce over it Croque Madame of Ham Katsu - Holy cow this was good. It was rich and the sauce they poured over the top enhanced the flavors of the ham Abalone and Bay Scallop Pot Pie - The only pot pies I've ever tried were from the frozen section at a grocery store so I was not expecting how it looks in a restaurant. The top was super puffy while the inside was hot and thick. I used the top puff as a bowl and scooped some of the filling in. The abalone and scallop gave it a little chewiness in each bite. Uni Risotto Lamb sirloin - Amazingly tender. The flavor is very light so it's not overwhelming. The carrots had a strong umami to them, so it didn't take long for me to eat all of these. Kombu rice -Very light with some seasoning on top. This was a nice experience, but I think it'd be better if it's paired with the more salty dishes to help even it out. Sweet potato Gratin - Very soft and a little sweet.

So the decision was made for I had found both the food I enjoyed, and the ambiance I enjoyed. I whispered where the Farmer's Market of the Grove responded, Monsieur Marcel Bistro, in a french accent that in my mind was just a wee coquette. I was dining solo and I was sat in the bar, perfectly fine with me. The server soon brought water. And the goblet had a paper straw. And I know this sounds super fragile, but I do not like drinking from paper straws cause the paper tastes throws my taste buds off. And it is not like I ask for a plastic straw cause my taste buds come first and the environment second. Nothing like that. I take the straw out and sip using my lips. I know it is barbaric, but I rather be an uncooth dolt then suffer the taste of paper on my tongue I loved the service of this place. It did not have charm, or charisma, but it was attentive, efficient and polite. Like the server brought me a chalkboard labeled plats de jour or plates of the day. I do not know French, but I trust Google translate enough to correctly translate this phrase. I appreciated the touches of gray blue and white throughout. I also appreciated the cursive, it all seem so Parisian-fancy, yet in the daylight. I ordered the whole Dorade, and did not order the Filet Mignon. That was my fatal flaw. My not ordering right. The Dorade is like a white fish, like a Branzino they explained it to me. And it came with a side of burblanc maybe it was a white sauce, creamy and thick. As my pictures show, when I first received the fish it came whole, like skin. I would not dare fileting myself. I know bad things happened when I filet fish by myself. The server took it back and it came as two clean filets. The first mouthfuls were a delight. And as destiny might write it, when the server asked me how I was enjoying the meal I was placing a big forkful in my mouth. And ugh! That is when i discovered the bones of the fish. I continued eating and the bones were many. The bones waiting for me in this great white fish, accompanied with lemon, and a white tick sauce, and nothing-tasting asparagus, had bones. Too many bones for me. In the past, I had almost nearly choked on one. To be clear, this did not happen on this outing, but still I struggled to enjoy the dish because of the bones. I need to remember that white fish served like this has bones. Should it have bones? Is there a way that one can eat this type of fish and enjoy it despite the bones? Like is there a way to use knife and fork to inspect if a mouthful has a fork? If there is I am afraid I never attended the charm school that imparted this skill unto folks. In short, this took down the place to only a 4 star experience. The people watching, the atmosphere the loveliness of its gray blue and accompanying cursive did not overshadow the finding of the bones. In complete contrast, the item that I cannot gush enough about is their chacuterrie board. I have never seen a restaurant offer a cheese board with one cheese. Like I would go back to this place just to have the cheese board and the french blue I had. But what made the board sing was their chutney, house-made so bravo to the house! Like the chutney was both sweet and savory and it was chunky, so that added to the authenthicity of the moment. To draw a shaky parallel, I imagined that chunky peanut butter made in house would taste way better than chunky peanut butter from the jar. When I combined the bread, the chutney, the bleu and a nut, it was a strong showing of flavor and pleasure. It was not until I wrote this that I noticed that plate had no meat. I cannot wait to go again and get the cheese board plate and this time I will make a point of adding some meat.

The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. The soft candlelight, a shared table, and her next to me made everything taste better. A spot that feels intimate without trying too hard. Definitely coming back.

Sourdough bread, topped with French cheeses and a gravy, like a deconstructed French onion soup. Devine. Endive Salad: a light, refreshing Cesar salad with a passion fruit twist. Tartare: Made perfectly flavorful, paired with a basil leaf coated in - light tempura batter, delicious. Ribeye: Tender and juicy. Mushroom Pithivier: Who knew mushrooms could be cooked in such a buttery, flavorful way wrapped up in a delicate heavenly pastry. Lobster Risotto: Creamy, tomato-based sauce, with perfectly cooked risotto topped with delectable lobster. Le Burger and pommes fritte: The burger is so juicy, rich is flavor, the meat literally melts in your mouth. The fries are too salty. Kiwi: Unfortunately I'm allergic and couldn't try it, but everyone in my party LOVED it. Bread pudding: I've never had dark chocolate baked into a bread pudding and it's the best bread pudding I've ever had. Yum! Paired with vanilla ice cream. Extra yum! The Scallop Ravioli was far too salty, and the burger and fries were heavily over-seasoned to the point that we left most of them unfinished. Especially the fries tasted too salty. We ended up leaving most of the ravioli, burger, and fries because of the salt level. I understand that seasoning is subjective, but the salt level made it difficult to enjoy the meal. On the positive side, the ambiance was lovely, and the servers were friendly and attentive and the complimentary beers were appreciated, but unfortunately the food did not meet our expectations.
