Absolutely delicious! I had breakfast here last Sunday and I loved it! I was very hungry and decided to order an appetizer for breakfast... we shared pancakes! They were really soft and delicious! Just perfect. I ordered two eggs, hash browns, toast and lenguicia- it was all perfectly cooked and was just what I wanted. The lenguicia was succulent! My main complaint with Noorms is service, bad service will kill a business. Once again i sat on the patio and after 5 minites no one even came to ask me if i wanted coffee, and i saw the watress that was covering the patio twice! This is a great little American grill with good prices. We saw it while driving CV Blvd and said, "What the heck. Let's try it." It's a traditional American grill with a medium sized menu dominated by about 15 styles of burgers. There are some melts, a steak plate, a spaghetti plate, and the usual variety of American foods. Even has a liver dish (don't see that much any more). We had a mushroom burger and the sourdough turkey melt. Both were good. The Burger was GREAT. Nothing was too greasy. Although the sourdough was grilled, it was light on the butter. The turkey was OK- not spectacular, but tasty enough. One order of fries would feed 2-3 people. Iced tea was cheerfully refilled without charge. Definitely a place we will return. read more

The greatest place to eat in Castro Valley and it's not even close. You can feed a city for about $30 here and the quality is great. If it was up to me I'd be here just about every week. This morning we have pleasure to have breakfast with our daughter before heading to San Francisco. Audry was very friendly and the food was so yummy. The 2x4 breakfast that includes egg, sausage, bacon, a slice of watermelon and pancake has huge portion, and my favorite is the fresh squeezed oranges. A brunch for $35 for 3 is very reasonable. Excellent service!!! The waitress was very friendly and was very kind to substitute my coleslaw for fries. The atmosphere not too bad, has a bit of a honey feeling to it. I ordered their special, the bbq chicken, very good. Meat fell right off the bone :) the potato salad it came was pretty good too. My friend got the waffle combo, one of the best waffles I've had in a while. It was cooked to perfection, and the bacon it was served was crispy to perfection. The thought of chicken and waffles raced through my mind yesterday in Castro Valley so since its been awhile and went to Norm's on the boulevard pleasently greeted by the waiter saw the chicken and waffle pictured on the menu I ordered it. When it arrived looking at, it looked like pigeon and waffle. The pieces of chicken were small and dry but the waffle was fluffy and great. Had my drink refilled 4 times Service I rate 5 stars. If 4.5 were an option I'd give it. If your expecting fine dining, then you didn't look before you leaped. This is as close to the East Coast Diner experience as you're apt to get here in CA. Norman's grill is good ol' American food. Somehow, it just tastes really good. I had an omelet that was packed with filling - and enough potatoes for 3 servings. My partner had their Thursday corn beef and cabbage and it was good! Nice flavor on both. Prices are reasonable, and there was plenty to take home an enjoy later. Service was quick. I had the California Omelet with Peppers, mushrooms, onions and Avocado, includes Hash Browns and Toast, excellent choice, I'm trying to eat more Vegetarian, my wife had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs with an English Muffin, she loved the Corned Beef Hash, they make there own, excellent! We ordered a simply burger and chicken sandwich(originally ordered the patty melt, nope out of rye bread, they offered different bread, really, it's not a patty melt people without the rye bread, and we ordered a pizza) we were told they were out of pizza too. Really, you just opened that weekend and you already run out of food. Anyway, Norman's is great. Try it if you haven't already. Great place to meet your friends. LOVE IT!!! They have a great selection on their menu as well, and you can order breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime. I try something different each time I go. Been trying Norman' Grill a few times in the last week. Twice for breakfast and once for lunch. Both breakfasts were good & hearty. You won't leave hungry. The omelette was excellent full of goodies. Interesting that the negative reviews are not obvious and one needs to look more closely. Went to Norman's again tonight and this time we walked out. Asked for Lemon in ice tea--out. Asked for the beef stew-out. Asked for the lasagna-out. Waited 15 minutes for the server, who was not only waiting tables but being the cashier. Served customers food-no hand washing between cashier and waitressing. It seems that this facility continues to progressively deteriorate in food and service since the passing of the original owner. I want to tell you a little story of something special about Norman's. Today they made my day... My Dad lives in Castro Valley, very close to Norman's. He and my Mom were eating there 3 or more times a week and loved their local diner. She passed away in late February and then Covid19 hit. So now Dad is by himself stuck at home and lonely. He's managing, but misses many things including Norman's. I live 2 hours away, and wanted to do something to cheer him up. I reached out to Norman's to see if they deliver. I wanted to get some of Dad's favorite clam chowder soup out to him. Special shout out to Mondona - bless her heart. They hadn't been making that soup since the shut down, but they made it today because of my Dad, and Mondona personally delivered it to Dad's house. At a time when things are so hard for local restaurants, I thank you Norman's so much for going above and beyond to brighten both our days. Looking forward to when Dad can come in and sit in his favorite spot, and enjoy your food again in person. read more

Me and the BF stumbled on the little jewel today due to Denny's & IHOP being super busy and it was excellent! These folks KNOW how to make hash browns. I got the build your own omelette (I chose sausage, spinach, avocado and jack cheese) which came with the hash browns and toast. Everything was perfect. The BF got the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and full order onion rings which were good. We WILL be coming back here again. Our waitress was superb and the young guy that seated us was, as well. Let me start with the food. I had a country fried steak with garlic fries and a Caesar salad. I could tell that the steak was frozen and microwaved, just like the steamed vegetables that came with it. The garlic fries were soggy like they'd been out in the rain. The salad was okay but nothing to write home about. Store bought dressing and such. The service was fine but the bill was kind of outrageous. Nonetheless I still tipped about 15%. Which is low for me. I felt ripped off. I'm didn't make a scene, I'm just not going to eat there again. You can always tell a bad restaurant by their steamed vegetables. The turkey omelet was not what I expected. It was described to me as having deli sliced turkey breast meat when I ordered. It was a big hunk of turkey breast thats was dry as the Sahara Desert.
