My gf heard about this Bulgarian restaurant on the news. They were featured and there reviews really drew her to it. Her family is from the Eastern Europe. It was fun trying somewhere new as we usually go to our favorites. For the past several years we've been going to Scott's for celebrations, but that has gotten old so thankfully we found somewhere new and loved it. I highly reccomend this restaurant. The ambiance is spectacular. If you can get one of the side tables under the overhang with the wine bottle chandelier you'll love it. Here's what we ordered: Borscht with Beef: Traditional red soup made with beets, beef, garden vegetables topped with sour cream- To me it didn't look appetizing, but it's a traditional dish so we split a cup. We didn't have much hope that would be edible. We were blown away trying it. It was actually good. We were shocked. It was so good. It was filled with pieces of tomatoes and beets and huge tender chucks of beef. Spinach Blini-Gluten free, vegetarian, 6 blintzes filled with spinach and creamy white sauce. We really enjoyed these Spinach Blini. They were very rich. I could only eat two to them and took the third one with me to share with my husband. He really liked it and wish there was more. I really wanted to get the Cherry Blini, but we were too full even though we shared an entree. I'm so disappointed as they looked so good. We needed a couple more people at our table so we could have tried more dishes and eaten everything family style. Beef Stew-Tender chunks of beef meat, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and this good things stewed in perfectly hearty cheese gravy baked in clay pot and served with tortilla on top. Delish Borscht. My Ukrainian buddy suggested I try their Borscht Soup because we both know Beets generate Nitric Oxide and make our veins flexible. I drove 30 minutes to get there and a lovely young Ukrainian woman served me with a smile and elegance and I really enjoyed the Borscht and I normally can't stand the taste of beets so I will definitely be back. I then ordered several of their other plates and also enjoyed them so I took them home and ate like a Ukrainian for a few days. :-) read more

The Russian salad was the first thing I tried and it stood out, it's like a mix of egg salad and potato salad, super creamy with a nice dill-forward flavor from the pickles. The little bologna pieces are unexpected but actually work, they add that salty bite that brings everything together. I also had the Mititei ("The Little Ones")basically like a homemade sausage, juicy, garlicky, and grilled with a nice char. If you have never tried Eastern European cuisine...Noroc is the go to destination.. located in Carmichael, this enchanting restaurant has everything you can look for. Tasty and quaint dishes of the region. You can order any dish on the menu, and be very confident it is amazing! Being vegetarian I had the Greek salad which was wholesome and appeasing not only to the sight but taste as well. Delicious eastern European food with somewhat random, somewhat cute ambience. I've been twice and the borscht (beet soup) and cabbage rolls were AMAZING! The potato varenyki are very good too and it's a pretty large order....perfect for sharing. The zucchini pancakes were HUGE and had great flavor and texture. My family ordered the pork schnitzel and mashed potatoes which I tried and that was well made and tasty as well. I'm dying to try the desserts but haven't yet. They have so much variety on the menu so there's something for everyone! One time when we went on a Saturday evening they had someone singing and she had a beautiful voice. It felt a bit random, maybe, but we enjoyed it. The service is a little cold sometimes but decent enough. The first time I ate here in March it was fantastic, but this time I wondered why there was absolutely no one else on a Friday night in the restaurant. It didn't take long to figure out. The server was extremely slow to respond and didn't listen to the orders. Instead of two soups for two of my friends, he brought one for them to share, then when one ordered tortellini the server said there were no more left to order! With no one in the restaurant that was hard to understand why. Two of us enjoyed our entrees: I had the chicken and my friend had a beef dish. He didn't eat much if the sides but he did like the beef. The other two friends had different entrees (one had one if the two servings of tortellini the restaurant had and said they were ok, and I don't remember what the other had. The two sharing the tortellini said it was an ok dish, but not the quality the restaurant used to have for all its food. The server had another helper (maybe training him?) and whereas the server was dreadful, the helper was awesome! He was quick to respond when he stopped by and if he had been our server the experience might at least have been better. We were so disappointed bc there aren't many 4 or 5 star reviewed restaurants in PV's zona romantica area that can accommodate 7 people with reservations through OpenTable but we will definitely be crossing this one off the list. read more

Noroc gracefully hosted our Watch Party for the Turkey - Romania soccer game. I would like to mention the excellent service we received and all the accommodations made to make our private event a success. Even though the result was not the one we wanted, we all lived the emotions of the match together. Maria and her partner excelled in serving our meals and drinks, making sure the taste was to our liking. I would greatly recommend the Borscht soup, the Olivier Salad, the Mici (grilled sausage) and Blini (cherry crepes) but actually there is nothing on the Menu that one wouldn't like. I haven't been here for a while but I was craving borscht. Sacramento is a city devoid of good soup restaurants. I love a variety of soups year round and many restaurants don't offer any soup. Noroc offers a few soups from Eastern Europe. I have found their vegetarian Borscht to be of the highest quality and one that is infused with great flavor. Likewise, I fell in love with the cured pork & raw veggie dish. The richness of the cured pork is negated by the raw onion, raw garlic, dill pickles, and horseradish. The course bread was a perfect platter for all of that fat goodness! The restaurant had several patrons when I visited on a Friday evening around 5:30 PM. There was a large party and several other groupings of 2 - 4 people. I was a solo diner. It seems that was only one server for the entire restaurant and she was also the bar tender. Because of that, I think the service was a bit slow; however, I recognize that the food is prepared to order and that there may have been a backlog in the kitchen because of that. I enjoyed the ambience - especially the reproduction of 2 dining areas set up like a kitchen might be in a humble Eastern European village. I have never been dissatisfied with the quality and taste of the food at Noroc and will always be willing to return. read more

I had absolutely negative experience at this place last Saturday. I made a reservation at Noroc over the phone several days in advance to celebrate my birthday with a party of six. The reservation was confirmed with my phone number, date, time, and table size. Everything seemed set. When my guests and I arrived for dinner, we were told they could not seat us because they had "another party." That was the entire explanation. No apology, no attempt to accommodate us, and no effort to resolve the situation. What made it worse is that I could clearly see multiple open tables, including several inside that would have easily accommodated a group of six. Yet we were told we would not be seated and were essentially asked to leave. There was no manager available on site--or at least no one willing to get one when I asked. When I requested the manager's contact information, the waitress initially refused to provide it. After insisting, I was handed a small piece of paper with a handwritten name and phone number. When I asked what time I could call, I was told, "He doesn't report to me," in a dismissive and rude tone. The entire situation was extremely embarrassing, especially since I was hosting guests for my birthday. It felt disorganized, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. Thankfully, we were able to quickly call another restaurant, Yerevan, where we received excellent service and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. They completely saved the evening. I would never return to Noroc, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone--especially for a special occasion. If a confirmed reservation can simply be dismissed upon arrival without explanation or accountability, you truly never know what might happen. read more

I moved here about a year ago and have been dying to try Noroc since then! Me and my mom went last night and I can't believe I waited so long because the food is SO good! We might have accidentally over ordered because we got excited- the only downside is that we couldn't find room in our stomachs for the cherry blini. Our grandma's pierogi have been missing from the table and our hearts for almost 15 years now - and the potato & farmers cheese vareniki took me right back to her table. They were just the same. We also ordered the beet salad (which was so good my mom ate despite "not liking" beets), the green side salad, zucchini pancakes and placinte. The table was full and we were happy!! We were also offered a try of kvass, which I should have just ordered from the start! It was delicious too! (And the Moldovan rose was delightful!) All the food is homemade ...and you can tell. Everyone who works there is so lovely, the food is so good, I loved the homey feeling inside, as if you were visiting a Moldovan home instead of a restaurant. There's also a gal who sings!! I really enjoyed this place. I went in on a busy night & stay at the bar. There was this amazing Woman running the place very well I might add. There about 8 tables with 4-10 people at each one. She was very helpful & kind. Even wa able to chat with me a bit. I ordered the borscht that was out of this world & the bread was homemade fresh. It warmed my belly & the bread was amazo delicious, I think anything here would be outstanding. I also ordered the Greek salad or Mediterranean. It was so fresh & yummy. Disclaimer: Norcoc Restaurant is one of the first Russian restaurants I've been to in Sacramento and I think I might just not really prefer Russian food but maybe if you are a fan of this type of food you would enjoy it. (Everyone else at my table did) When we got to the restaurant we were immediately seated to a comfortable booth and given menus. There were so many options! I think it might be better if they narrowed down their menu a bit and just focused on the favorites, I don't know though. I ordered the beef/pork dumplings and I thought they were ok. The yogurt sauce was good but the filling was so compact that it just formed a solid ball that would sometimes roll out when you cut the dough encasing and I think I prefer when the dumpling feels more like one thing and the filling is not so compact. Idk if that makes sense. My friend got the chicken Kiev dish and he absolutely loved it! I tried it and I thought is was ok but I usually don't like fried breaded food so I think it might just be me. The coleslaw on the side was great though! Very fresh and citrusy. It also came with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and I especially liked this Russian juice called Kvas that I ordered. Inside was so nice and had a romantic feel. There was a concert going on later and we were the only people seated at the time we walked in, but it slowly became packed! My first Russian restaurant didn't disappoint! The bread to start tasted homemade and was amazing with the butter and salt. The salad was similar to a Greek style. I just wish it had more olives! The soup has a ton of flavor! I typically don't like anything beet flavored, but this soup was spot on. The potato fritters were very tasty as well! Perfectly crispy. I am still going to give this review a strong four star review, even though there were a few "imperfections." I have Romanian heritage on my mom's side, and I was happy to see this listed as a Central/Eastern European restaurant. This place replaced a "Russian buffet" that was, um.....decent. So, as I like to try new restaurants and something new, away we went. We started out with a meat and cheese blini. I don't know what to compare this taste too, but it was delicious. I was so quick to enjoy it that I burnt the inside of my mouth. The shredded beef on the inside was juicy, and the blini itself was a soft texture. There was some melted cheese on the top that added a good gooeyness, but not over the top. For my main course, I, based on the recommendation of our server, ordered the chicken kiev ( a dish I had heard of, but never tried it ). The fried coating was crunchy and crispy, yet the chicken on the inside was juicy and cooked to a near perfection. The butter and cheese on the inside made it extra unhealthy, but in the best way possible. My wife ordered the beef stew. Her homemade beef stew is better, but it still was good in its own right. I recommend, if never had TRUE Central/Eastern European food, try something new! Our server was very informative and helpful....at the beginning. Once we had our food, we never heard from him again. They had customers, but were not super busy. We had to wait quite a bit for a drink refill. Not a huge deal, but it is rare in a restaurant to not be checked on in literally over 20+ minutes after your food was dropped off. We had a movie to get to, and I asked for our check. We waited....and waited....and waited. He came back, and said "Anything else I can do for you?" I repeated "Our check." Again, not a huge complaint, but just a quick brush up on customer service may help. For a filling (and tasty appetizer), two main courses, and two sodas, we spent about $70. I think that price was fair, considering taste and portion size. Definitely would return, and recommend for a taste of Transylvania or Bucharest. read more

We wanted to love this restaurant..so disappointed. I'm Russian and wanted to try it out. We were the only ones in the whole restaurant for lunch. Our server was nice, but we had to get up and ask for our drinks. I ordered a bottle of wine and she finally brought it, but didn't even pour a bit into each glass. That's a customary thing to do in any restaurant. Our food was good- except the beef stroganoff. It tasted like dog food! I make such a better one. It was disgusting. They should either re-do the recipe or take it off the menu. We had several appetizers...the shuba was good, the smoked fish tasted great, the caviar belini was excellent. Cabbage rolls hit the spot. My husband loved his chicken entree. Our lunch lasted over 2 hours which was fine, but kinda long especially since we were the only ones in there. Another thing- as a restaurant you should've be burning intense. It's just a weird vibe. Maybe near the restroom but not near where you are serving food. We've been here a few times, and we really like the place. The food is always delicious and flavorful. The service is decent. The overall vibe of the place is nice. We plan to try more dishes, but everything we've had was very tasty. The beet salad is one of our favorites. It certainly has a kick. The meat and cheese blini is very rich, and the spinach one is a little lighter. Both are amazing. I like the Zrazy a little more than the chicken Kiev. The dumplings are nice. The restaurant can sometimes be busy or booked on Saturdays, but it seems random. They sometimes book the place with parties. It sometimes helps to call ahead. read more

Noroc needs to hire more staff. There was one server for all the tables. Food is unquestionably good. We had to get our own menus and ask twice to get some water on a 103 degree day. Appetizers ordered and they came out along with dinner entrees .....so we waited a very long time for food. Food was delicious. My friend just finished getting a facial nearby and was starving and this placed popped up on yelp that had pretty good ratings so we decided to stop by. When we first entered, the smell of bleach slapped me across the face. We were then seated by the nicest waitress (I didn't get her name but she had reddish hair). She brought us water and a basket of bread & butter and kindly explained the menu to us since we didn't know what to get. We finally made up our kinds and ordered the Tabaka Chicken, Solyanka (soup) and cabbage rolls. ~Tabaka Chicken- 10/10: chicken was so flavorful and moist, cabbage salad was fresh and crunchy and even the rice tasted great. ~ Rolls- 9/10: These were great. So soft and freaking yummy. ~Solyanka- 7/10: It's alright. Would I order this again? Probably not but I'm glad I got to try it. Food is ok. It is positioning itself as a Moldovan restaurant. The food on the menu is Moldovan/ Romanian with a few Russian items. The decor is Moldovan countryside, the music is Romanian. I am Moldovan and ethnically Romanian, and I am shocked that the staff speaks only Russian and a little English. It is like a microcosm of the oppression that Romanian people had been feeling in Moldova for decades. It's like 1993 all over again. A slap in the face. On the one occasion I came, I've seen staff confronting customers, bring food and "throw" it on the table, everything takes a long time to come out. You feel downright like you are doing them a favor by coming to eat here. I told the staff I don't speak Russian and they scoffed in my face. I've lived in the US for 30 years and coming to this restaurant throws me right back to an uncultured, pre-modern time in Moldova. It is a shame. I would love to have access to good home food, but I'm not going to allow myself be treated like this. There needs to be respect towards other people, not even to mention they're customers. read more
