5 STARS because I am happy I go elsewhere after they served me an Omlette that stank SOOOO BAD like a bacteria infested rag.....I mean serious stink I should have called the cook, waitress and owner to take a bite. They did it on purpose, 2nd replacement Omlette was almost just as bad its impossible not to know. I can tell they used a rag that wiped the kitchen the night before then sat out all night to create the perfect stink fir where they cut the vegetables for my food.....that or they purposefully squeezed the water from the bacteria infested rag. So I had never been here and as we walked in it seemed very small but thankfully they do have a back room with more tables. My boyfriend ordered the scramble which was super yummy and I ordered the bacon sourdough cheeseburger and added mushrooms. Which was equally amazing. I came here for breakfast with a friend as I had here so many great things about The Hungry Hollow. We walked in and waited to be seated. We were asked if you wanted to order coffee while we waited on our waitress which we did want coffee. We waited quite a while before our waitress came to take our orders. I ordered the Biscuits and gravy breakfast that which I wanted bacon and it comes with eggs cook to your liking. I wanted my eggs poached. The inside has plenty of seating since of the chairs do not match, I'm not sure if that's the look they were going for. Our food arrives and my biscuits are hard as a rock, the gravy is hot.. my eggs are not cooked poached and the bacon was cooked perfectly. I said something to my waitress about the hard biscuit and she apologized and walked off. I was a little confused? I finish eating my bacon and my non poached eggs. At this point I was waiting on my bill and ready to leave. The waitress comes back with the check and had the audacity to say, did you not like your biscuits abs gravy? Like, lady I told you the biscuits were hard as a rock I even hit them with my fork. She apologized again and said, she forgot I said they were hard. She asked me to give her a few minutes. She came back and asked if I wanted them remade I said, no and just wanted to pay my bill. This experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I still paid full price for my breakfast even though I didn't eat the biscuits. Oh well! Their prices are great, but that's about all. I probably won't be back. Came in on Super Bowl Sunday with only about 45 minutes before closing and they let us in. We got classic French toast, bacon, sausage, egg, coffee, orange juice and can't forget the hash brown came out really quick and piping hot. A "hidden gem" that's been 51 years in the same location-the corner of a now dying strip mall. Well-deserved Yelp favorite, particularly among retirees. Outstanding breakfast menu, food prepared perfectly, friendly efficient servers, and comfortable surroundings. Bonus points for linguica as a meat choice. One of my favorite local breakfast spots! Everytime I eat here, I feel like I've been transported to a sitcom I grew up watching ('75 to 80's) called "Alice" about waitresses at a diner. I usually order the Monte Cristo because it's so darned good here. It did not disappoint. Again. The average age of the clientele is about 80, and everyone is as friendly as can be! Total blast from the past. It felt like the type of breakfast joint you'd go to in the 80s. Has a really small town family owned vibe to it. We were greeted upon walking in and customer service was good. Food came out fast. I ordered the egg plate with sausage links and country potatoes. It definitely reminded me of a legit home cooked meal! I can tell those potatoes were made with TLC and not just a pre chopped frozen potatoes. Which was really nice. The service here is the star of the show. The decor is over the top kitschy in a U S A kind of way, but the food is mostly on point though. I am not a huge breakfast eater, but it's my husband's favorite so we try to find places that will work for both. We are on a mission to try every breakfast place in Sacramento. This is a solid little hole in the wall cafe 3.8/5. I'll start with the service. Our waitress was sweet and friendly and my husband's coffee cup was never empty. Service was 10/10. The decor is ummm, very patriotic. Like someone threw a 4th of July party but never took down the decorations. The place could use a good dusting on all of the decor. It's very homey. Most of the food was good. I really enjoyed my Larry's scramble. It's like an open face grilled cheese with sausage patties and scrambled eggs on top. I opted for my gravy on the side. The food is very homey like what your grandma might make only a bit smaller on the portion size. My potatoes were very good but could have cooked a few more min. 8/10 for my plate. The Monte Cristo was 6.5/10 the inside of the bread was too soggy for me and the size of the food wasn't worth $12.50 in my opinion. The gravy was good. 7/10. This place has been here for about 47 years, it appeared to have things made from scratch and be homemade. The waiter I think May had been new, and when asked questions appeared to be confused and even said he was confused, but clarified what was asked and got a correct answer. This hidden little gem is absolutely all the rave you read about on Yelp! After sitting at a completely different restaurant and not liking what we saw, we pulled out our Yelp app and found The Hungry Hollow! We politely left the other restaurant to come here for how good their food looked online and with our full trust put into our Yelp community! Boy, did they not disappoint! As you walk in, wherever there is seating, you go. We happened to come in after the breakfast rush and before lunch, so it had mostly cleared out. Seating was set up in two rooms, all tables & chairs. It was simple decor, along with a some added Valentine's quotes throughout. The entire restaurant has 2 servers and can be quite hectic during breakfast, from what I hear, but your patience will get you an AMAZING breakfast. Our server, Nadine, was very sweet & friendly. I ordered 2 Biscuits & Gravy with 2 Sunnyside Up Eggs, 2 bacon & 2 sausage and my friend got her usual Bacon & Cheese Omelette. Breakfast was ready very quickly, it was wonderful knowing their kitchen was in top of things in between a rush. Our plates looked so delicious! My friend said her bacon was nice & crispy in her omelette and her crispy hash browns tasted good. I would've enjoyed a little less gravy, but it still tasted great. I liked their sunnyside up eggs and that extra side of crispy country potatoes was so good, too. Nadine was very busy and on top of things the entire time. Very cute, can be your grandma's kitchen like cozy place! Price is also not crazy, it is affordable when you also consider we didn't even need to snack until dinner! Portions and price are on point!
