Had the pork chimichanga and it was good. Husband had taco special and he also enjoyed. Went on a Sunday, wasn't crowded at all. Took 10+ minutes for waitress to greet us and another 10 minutes for two draft beers (even though people who came after us had already received their drinks). Food came quickly after ordering. Would return but would have liked slightly better service. Have tried to go here before after a day of skiing at Jiminy Peak and it was way too crowded. Today it was not! read more

I went to Azule Norte Friday August 21 at 4:15 PM for a late lunch. My sister ordered nachos as did I. Hers came but mine did not. Few workers were outside at that time and by the time some one checked on us, my sister had eaten about half of her nachos. I was told the kitchen forgot mine and they would be right out. OK. No problem. Mine came out a few minutes later and there were less on the plate than my sister's plate who had been eating hers for 20 minutes. They lacked half of the ingredients the my sister's nachos contained.. No one bothered to check on my food. I was there early and few customers were there. Wait staff was not busy. Food was inconsistent in quantity and the service stunk. The nachos were hot- at least the top was. Since they didn't have cheese I can't comment about melted cheese. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. I'd have been better off getting a hot dog at the Stewart"s up the road or something microwaveable at Cumby"s across the road. read more

Yes! Finally found a solid Mexican restaurant somewhat nearby. Great setting to this place, love the outdoor area. Bar is great. Main dining room gets really noisy. Would help if they had more sound absorbing decor. But the food is great and very friendly service. Will definitely be returning. read more

Came here for happy hour on a Monday. My girlfriend got a margarita and I got a corona with lime both were five bucks each for happy hour. Ordered the tortilla chips with trio of dips (guacamole, queso, salsa). The chips were nice and crunchy and salty and the dips were very tasty we would get this again. We got a quesadilla with flank steak and a burrito with Barbacoa and split these entrées. Felt the Barbacoa didn't have a ton of flavor, it reminded me of birria. Both birria and Barbacoa taste like pot roast. I do really enjoy pot roast but the meat needs to be seasoned a little more. Add a little more salt or the meat is going to lack in flavor, I don't want just texture I want flavor as well in the meat. The flank steak quesadilla was really tasty but they didn't put a lot of flank steak in it. The meat itself had some nice flavor to it. I ended up ordering a flank steak burrito to go and asked them to add extra flank steak to it since I figured they would probably not add very much just like they didn't add to the quesadilla. I took a bite of the burrito when I got home and really enjoyed it. Good guacamole as well we both agreed that it could use just a little extra salt in a squeeze of lime juice. She really enjoyed her margarita. I just had some of the takeout flank steak burrito that I ordered at the end of our meal. It was really delicious and that I give five stars too but make sure you order extra flank steak so they don't skimp on it, or else you might be disappointed. read more

First time visiting this Mexican restaurant when vacationing outside Pawling, NY and was pleasantly surprised. Impressed with the large outside seating areas and the live music. Git a Luke warm greeting from what looked like an over worked employee ( place was packed) but our server Melissa made up for that reception. Melissa warmly greeted us and offered several suggestions to our group. The Notre Nachis and Chips and salsa were well portioned and a great start to the evening. They margaritas were out of this world I recommend both the Cadillac, strawberry and Mango Margaritas. The chicken enchiladas, fajitas with flank steak and smash burger were all cooked to perfection and well portioned for the price. Although the wine list is limited they have an extensive beer listing of domestic, import, IPA, local beer, cider, fruit, seasonal and seltzer offerings. Overall ambiance is casual with an outdoor "cabin" vibe offering plenty of inside and outside seating areas. Live music was a plus ( Saturday evening). Plenty of parking but you may have to walk alittle bit depending on your timing. Definitely the place to go if you enjoy Mexican food. read more

Interesting spot. Went for our anniversary dinner. Wife got a brisket chimichanga and I tried the Chicken Fajita. We like to sit at the bar but with 5 seat bar, timing is everything, and when we went the bar was full. We were able to get a high-hat in that area however. They don't offer compelmentay chips and salsa (like most Mex/Tex Mex joints) so a so-so pre meal munch will run $7.00 - which we did. Our female server made strong suggestions to canned IPA products despite me requesting a specific product by name - not a big deal. She did fail to point out a draft list menu that was hidden behind the daily specials that was on a clipboard on the table. All good - no problem. The food - $7 chips and salsa was weak and not worth it. The chimichanga was enjoyed by my wife - the Fajita, well, it was OK but I've had substantially better at Chili's. Bland with zero heat or salt/spice. One of the larger issues was our female server was not attentive and could easily be seen getting rocked behind the bar with drinks of her own. Drink refills and eventual bill and exit from the establishment was covered by an attentive male server that was picking up her slack. She basically disappeared and abandoned our table. Regardless, would I/we return? Probably no. Maybe if we had bar seating I'd have a different perspective, but watching this server slamming drinks while mine was empty leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially with mediocre food. They're the only game in town so I understand why patrons return, but for a 25min drive - nope, I'll go to Albany or Troy for Mexican as Norte Azul was nothing special. And, not that it's mandatory, but we didn't see a single Latina worker in the establishment. Not typical for a true Mexican Tequileria. read more

Norte Azul Cantina is such a special place. I've been here 8-10 times since it's opened. They have great chili and I often get the cowboy burrito bowl. Great food and atmosphere in Stephentown. They host live music and there is a lively bar scene. In winter it's nice and toasty inside and in summer/spring there's outdoor eating with a place for little ones to play. They do not take reservations for parties less than 8 but the wait has never been too long. read more

I moved here a year ago and I along with my family and friends who've eaten there have rated it a solid 4-5 to 5 stars after multiple visits. The food is delicious and as we have varying dietary needs, accommodates all of us with multiple choices as they are happy to make substitutions at the diner's request. Occasionally, when super busy service has been slow but totally expected. Typically during those times there is wonderful live music to enjoy which makes the wait go quickly. Food was average. Ordered takeout because it was too loud and the wait was too long to sit. They never notified me my food was ready. Also tried to get me to pay twice (claimed I didn't pay when I went to get my food after having paid when I ordered). Cherry on top is that my order was missing an entree and they expected me to drive back to get it claiming it was my fault it wasn't in the bag. This is unacceptable customer service. With that being said, Norte Azul Cantina is a very good Tex-Mex restaurant that many people do not know about. Understanding that, I ordered a barbacoa beef burrito with chips and queso and it was delicious. To explain, the burrito was huge and it was assembled properly. Furthermore, the tortilla was grilled and tasted fresh. In addition, the barbacoa beef was excellent. The beef was tender and slightly tangy with a subtle, but distinct spicing. This was a top notch burrito. After that, I tried the chips and queso which was great. To elaborate, the chips were homemade and had nice flavor. In addition, the queso was brilliant. It was smooth, velvety, and creamy, with a hint of heat and sweetness. Climatically, Norte Azul Cantina is a hidden gem located in Stephentown, New York that offers very good Tex-Mex food. read more

I love this place....food is always delicious.....I placed an online take out order (which was very easy to do) - food was ready upon arrival and just in time for the text reminder they send when your order is ready. Got the nacho appetizer, which was delicious - packed with lots of goodness, and was a hearty eat itself. For the first time, I ordered their wings, which are billed as "jumbo" wings - except they were anything but....they were really tiny...actually the smallest wings I've ever seen....they must have realized this as the order I received was double the amount I had ordered, but I wasn't expecting the tiniest of wings when the menu says "jumbo"....they were delicious, and extra crispy as I ordered, just.....teeny-weenie....all was okay in the end, just I'll know in the future, not to expect jumbo wings, and would not order them for say, a party, because they're so small. They did make up for it in quantity, and they were delicious, so I am compelled to take one star away for a somewhat misleading menu...but this place is, and will continue to be my go to place in town for delicious food! read more

Norte Azul was good. We have had it on our list to try for a long time but finally was in the area and had the opportunity to try it. Some great hikes nearby and also an easy and somewhat scenic ride from Pittsfield or Western Mass. When we visited, it was take out only, however they have a field with some picnic tables set up adjacent to the restaurant to eat at. They also furnished us with plates and disposable silverware for the take out meal. After placing order, you text when on site and they will bring meal out when ready. Website confirmation also provided time frame after ordering. We didn't find any non-alcoholic beverages on the take out menu and so we visited Cumberland Farms across the intersection to get some water and drinks while we waited for our order. To start, and the star of the meal, was the jalapeño poppers. I believe everything on the menu is made in-house and these clearly were. Very tasty. Next, I was impressed with the flavor and freshness of the lobster tacos and the small greens salad was a nice side item. Me and my dining companion both thought the rice and beans were just so-so, could have had more flavor. They also were a little cold. We both weren't thrilled with the Steak Tacos. Lacked some flavor or flair and mine had a few very rare or raw pieces. We had mixed feelings about the chicken quesadilla. I liked it, she wasn't a big fan. Overall, I would return if in the area but wouldn't rush to go back. We were hoping for just a bit more. read more

The taste of the food is definitely the best! It has always been a little too loud for us to eat-in. Although the service is good, the preparation has always been a long wait and the price is always too high. At the end of the day, the Tex-Mex quality and food flavors is Superior! Better than most other Tex-Mex joints. Hard to say if it is worth the noise, the high price and the long wait but the taste of the food is so good, after enjoying it, you will have forgotten about these other inconveniences. Very nice American-style Tex-Mex. One of the better choices for this type of food near the Berkshires -- although it is technically on the NY side of the line. (I promise not to hold that against them.). Actually, while I am having fun about the border thing, it is a real plus. Because it is not technically in the Berkshires, there are fewer tourists, and the prices are aimed at locals. You can get dinner for $13, and only two items on the whole menu top $20. My wife and I ordered salads and tacos. The food was fresh and flavorful. Portions are HUGE. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. And the vibe was friendly -- like you are sitting with your neighbors. The guac was good with chunks of avocado. My daughter adored the Cantina Mac -- which is creamy mac and cheese that is topped with broiled cheese. I have my eye on that Cowboy Burrito. It is BBQ Beef Brisket, onion rings, spicy pickles, cheese and rice. It is ENORMOUS and looks so delicious. So, I am going to wait until a friend comes who is willing to split it with me. read more

Based on so many 4-4.5 star reviews, and the fact that it was packed at 4:30 on a Saturday, my husband and I were hoping for some good Tex-Mex food. We waited about 10 minutes for a seat, which turned out to be a deuce on a corner with a very rocky, tippy table. The server (who was admittedly swamped from the birthday party on the other side of the room) brought a pitcher of water and 2 plastic cups, then said she'd be back in a moment. I told her that both my husband and I had worked in the industry (he was a server/bartender, and I was a chef) and knew what she was going through, so to take her time. We ordered drinks. which came out quickly, then I ordered a flank steak chimichanga and my husband ordered the chicken enchiladas. When the food arrived, my husband noted that his enchiladas were cold. He asked the server for a warm-up, which took about 10 minutes while I sat with my chimichanga, which looked suspiciously pale and soft. When his enchiladas came back, they weren't any hotter than they'd been previously, but we'd both spent the day out in the cold and were starving, so at that point, we were willing to settle. I cut into my chimichanga and realized it was indeed soft and doughy rather than crispy, and had not been anywhere near a deep frier (microwave was my guess). It was also only moderately warm on the inside. The meat was fatty, and the entire thing was bland and underseasoned - all I could taste was tomatoes and salt. My husband said the enchiladas were similarly underseasoned, and also had that unmistakable microwave taste. Even liberal applications of hot sauce, sour cream and pico couldn't help amp up the flavor. Our server did a good job taking care of us and was tipped accordingly, but we felt that for roughly $72 (including tip), the food could have been miles better. And we weren't even expecting to be blown away by authentic Tex Mex - we were just hoping the food would taste like someone cared about what they were serving. Sadly, it didn't. read more

This is a fun place. I've been here a few times. It leans more toward "Tex" than "Mex" food wise. They use a lot of flavor sauces in their recipes which I found to be a bit overwhelming and unnecessary. The extra sauce kind of drowns out the flavor of the main meal components. I've had phenomenal entrees here but also just "meh" entrees. The food sometimes isn't as hot as I like as well. Maybe they have more than one chef there? Not sure... The margaritas are well done and the ambiance of the place is quaint though. I think next time I go I'll focus more on drinks and snacks rather than the entrees. This place was a pleasant surprise. As someone that grew up upstate, Mexican restaurants can be few and far between, and even then the quality can be a crap shoot. Norte Azul Cantina is excellent, however. We ordered chips and guacamole for the table, which was delicious. I had carnitas tacos which were also excellent. We were unable to dine inside at this time, but they had a lovely outdoor seating area, with tables spaced a generous distance apart. We ate at the perfect time to watch the sunset, good food and good views. I'd love to make another trip up that way and stop there once again. read more

Somebody get the kitchen a bottle of cumin, some cilantro and some chiles. The food, although good, was bland. Not a bit of spice, or heat, or depth of flavor. The guacamole tasted like mashed avocado, nothing seemed to be added to it at all. There were four of us, and we all agreed the food needed something to liven it up. That being said, the outdoor dining area is very nice. With so few choices in the Stephentown area, I'll probably return but I'll bring a shaker of cumin with me. read more
