I was spending the day in San Diego, but was heading back up to OC relatively early so I decided to…read moregrab a late lunch in lieu of dinner. I had been to SD twice before and wanted to check out somewhere I hadn't been. Enter Blue Water - the reviews and pics looks great, and the weather called for seafood, so I decided to head here and check it out. This Blue Water is located on India St in Mission Hills, though they have another location in Ocean Beach. Parking can be a little tricky, as there is no parking lot they are on a main road close to a split in a residential area. The interior is pretty spacious - the fish market is towards the front, and the ordering counter is in the back. Seating is spread out between the main area where the market is, a side room, and outdoors in the front. Decor and aesthetics are casual - very seafood restaurant-esque with straightforward design. The foot traffic set up so you order first and then find a table before they serve your meal to you. The menu is extensive - they have a large selection of fish that can be prepared several ways. It's a little overwhelming to take in, but there was no pressure for us to order; if there's a line all the more time to explore. I ultimately decided to get their mini shrimp tacos - these were served on a corn tortilla and topped with cabbage, tomatoes, onions, white sauce, and cheddar cheese with a side of tomatillo sauce. The tacos were great - super fresh, they didn't skimp on the shrimp, and all the flavors and textures worked really well together. I also ordered a cup of NE clam chowder which was good - not the best one I've had but for being in Southern California it held its own. Service was good - I'm seeing reviews of long lines but I think I came at the right time; there are barely a line to order and my meal was served shortly after that. Overall, Blue Water is a yes - I had a great experience here and wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in SD.

Service is terrible. We have a baby and asked for a high chair, which was provided. But after I…read moresettled the baby and everything away, they asked us to move because we hadn't ordered, even though my sister was nearly halfway through the line, and there were multiple empty tables. The worst part is, it wasn't even polite when they asked us. All the employees were giving us attitude for something they didn't tell us when we arrived, nor when they gave us the high chair. They want all four of us to stand in line instead of sitting at the empty tables. They seriously need training on customer service, at least to show empathy, sincerity and apologize to customers. I guess they don't care because we're Asian and believe they don't need our business here.

We LOVE going to Little Sakana, but we've always gone to the one in Mira Mesa. This is the first…read moretime we've visited this location and let me tell you--I'm so dang impressed! If we weren't so far from this branch, we probably would've been regulars here. We came at pretty much peak dinner time on a Sunday and *there was no wait list*--we didn't have to wait for at least an hour and a half to get a table. They had lots of indoor and outdoor seating, but it was so jarring (in a really good way) how quick we got seated and served. Their service was incredibly quick and hospitality was undeniably great right off the bat. Our server Arturo was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of the entire time we were there. Our food came out maybe 5x faster than I expected them to arrive at our tables. We were eating after approximately 5ish minutes of sitting down. The quality of food and the fish in particular was amazing--I'd say the same as what we got from the Mira Mesa location. I do think their nigiris here had more rice, but that doesn't affect the quality or bite of food you get as much. Everything was served pretty much freshly cooked as well--the crispy salmon skin, tempura shrimps, and rangoons were all piping hot when they got to our table. We did get some baked green mussels as well, and those were the only ones we weren't too happy with--they were a little hard and way too chewy. Honestly, it's pretty worth it just to drive down to this branch and endure the drive for a bit than to wait forever just to get a table at the other location. I think it's also worth noting that we got a much roomier table here compared to being forced to fit at a tight 4-top table for 4 adults plus a toddler on a highchair. Overall, we (and our full bellies) were beyond happy with our experience here and will most certainly be back!

The staff works amazing together and you never wait long for anything you order. They are all very friendly and willing to complete a request even if it is not their immediate job duty. The sushi selection is very good and while I usually stick to Nigiri when I do the AYCE menu, my husband very much enjoyed their specialty rolls. We loved their half order portions as it allows for us to sample various rolls without commiting to a whole one. The ambiance is nice and bustling but without making it too overwhelming. We really enjoy eating here!
