North Beach Sash & Window Supply came to our Victorian (built 1891) to replace two windows that had been blown out in a gas line explosion under the street directly below us. The task: newly framing curved glass panes. They took out emergency replacement plywood boards, expertly detached the frames and took them to their shop to install the new glass. In a very short time, they returned with the refitted frames and painstakingly replaced them into the window casing. But beyond that, they re-sashed both window frame assemblies and totally cleaned up after the job. Now I can see again, and our windows work beautifully! Great craftsmen and cool dudes. Ali and his team installed a window in my apartment. I thought they did a good job and formerly gave them a 5 star review. As requested I furnished both inside and outside paint for the window frame. This was an $800. endeavor. Within 6 weeks the paint began to peel on the outside of the window frame. I called Ali to report this. He offered no responsibility or solution. I'm not a paint expert but I know that new paint should not be peeling. Period. I thought either they didn't prime the window frame or they used inside paint on the outside of the frame or vice versa. There is a contractor currently working on our building. I asked him his opinion about this paint issue. His explanation was corroborated by information I found online : "The glazing must set a skin for at least 7 -14 days before you can prime and paint. The glass should be cleaned so that all of the putty oils are removed. It is important that in painting the glazing, the paint flows onto a small part of the glass to make a weather tight seal." Now how in the world does a company that installs and paints windows drop the ball on something that is elementary to what their service is ? Form your own opinion. read more

This place is very reasonable on prices, fast and friendly services that you may be missing from other window and sash places. Now I know I have been missing out for the last 12 years when I lived in a different neighborhood, and was going to different shops. I recently moved and needed to replace some glass on a set of windows, and since this place was just down the street, I went in with 2 sash in hand around 4pm. The tall gentleman gave me a quote, which was so reasonable that I was shocked. When I asked him if I could expect the windows to be ready in a couple of days, he said they would be ready by noon the next day and he'd call me once they are ready. He called me the next day as promised and the windows were ready. A couple of weeks later, I decided to replace a mirror on a built-in medicine cabinet as the cabinet and the mirror were 90 years old and the mirror had some obvious ugly wear and tear. I brought in the medicine cabinet door and asked if it was possible to replace the mirror. His answer was "of course we can". I didn't even ask how much the mirror would be this time and just left the cabinet door with him to replace the mirror. The next day, he called and said it's ready. Great and fast service! We had a broken window pane at the office. I was given a quote of about $200 based on my description over the phone and someone came over to look at it within 30 minutes of the call. After that I was told the replacement fee would be $200 exactly and about a 1 hour install. They pre-cut a new pane and it turns out the install only took 30 minutes. Very friendly guys who did a great job and I will definitely call the next time our office is the unfortunate victim of for-no-reason window-breaking. Dealing with North Beach Sash & Window, you will avoid any hassle regarding the very annoying clause the City and County of San Francisco has which is "All About Windows", meaning this: If you have wood framed windows facing the street that can be seen, you must replace with wood framed windows. The Big Box folks will tell you "No problem. Go with Vinyl". You don't want to go there. It's stupid, but it's real, folks. We love this company. Go with North Beach.
