NCVH- we love the Doctors and assistants here!!! We have always taken our pets here and Dr. Squibb and his team of doctors are the best! They are always so compassionate and understanding. Our Auggie broke his leg and the after care that Dr. Squibb has shown us throughout our pups recovery is hands down the best! He has always been up front and I feel that he has always been very honest with us, which is A HUGE plus. The only thing I would say needs work are the front desk ladies some times they're rude, and some times they have unnecessary snarky attitudes (not all of them-but some of them and when on the phone they don't fully listen. One of them complained about another employee right in front of me, which I found very unprofessional on their end because my interaction with that specific person, actually was very helpful and I had zero complaints about her. If you have personal feelings about co workers, they should really keep their eye rolling and unnecessary comments to themselves. The front desk is the first point of contact with the public and they really do make the first impression for NCVH. Other than that, hands down, we recommend NCVH. read more

I brought my cat here six months ago and had a great experience, BUT, I called back today to make an appointment to have my same cat neutered, I was told that since I am 5 days past the six month date of our last visit, I will have to pay for an office visit check up in addition to the neuter of my under 1 year old healthy male cat. I asked the office staff if they have any flexibility for me since I am a client, I was told that they have absolutely no flexibility for the 5 days past the 6 month cut off office policy. I've called other clinics that require no doctor checkup for a neuter. It seems that this clinic does not value me as a client anymore. I'm moving on to another clinic. read more

Have been going to this clinic for more than ten years, Dr Squibb is the most attentive and caring guy. You can tell the love he has for animals. This "Hospital" has an ongoing issue with the ability to do something as Simone as nail trims, which I feel is a total appropriate seduce to offer. I want a place to go that knows me animals, and has a working knowledge with them. I don't want to take my animals here for this, and there for that, and over here for another. I have them two stars for the fact that EVERY TIME I thar them in there for this service, I always get an excuse why I need to wait an hour, or there two short staffed to do it. If you are looking for a good place to go for full service, seek another place. I will say when I am there the staff are friendly. read more

My chiweenie had to have surgery on his knee. The surgery was going to cost almost $3000. I had to have half of it paid before I could even make the appointment and the rest paid before the day of surgery. I hustled my butt off and within 1 week I had all the money. Surgery was set. I was talking to friends and family and they told me to get a second opinion before I did the surgery. The morning of the surgery, my gut wasn't feeling right and I wanted to get a second opinion. I call the office well in advance and told them I wanted to hold off on the surgery. They lady stated yelling at me and told me that I would not get any of my money back. I never received any paperwork stating that and was never told that. Then they told me that I might get half back because I told them that refund policy was never mentioned. They bullied me and basically forced me into having this surgery. They gave my chiweenie the wrong medicine for over a month. I found out when I tried calling in his refill. They argued with me on the medications and I had to make several calls to them to get it figured out. I was furious! I asked them to comp the two after visits of his surgery since they were not included in the $3000 and they offered me half off at first. I refused and had to talk to several people before they agreed. The first appointment went alright. The second appointment, not so good. They come back and ask me for payment for his medication, which I expected. When they came back they told me my card was declined and they ran it 3 times. I asked how much they ran it for because the medication was only $20. They ran it for the cost of X-rays. I told them that this was to be comped. She went back into the office and came back out and told me no, that's not noted. She went back in and came back out and offered me a 50% discount and they were doing me a favor. I refused, this was to be comped. She asked how I would like to pay my bill and I told her I was only paying for the medication. She then said that they could set up a payment arrangement with me. I told her I didn't need one because I shouldn't be billed. She informed me that I would no longer be welcomed to take my animals there. I have been a customer for over 20 years have brought many animals here and have always highly recommended them to friends and family. My chiweenie had to have the same surgery on the other knee. I found a different vet and that vet only charged around $500 for the surgery. Also, when I went to ask for my pets records, they took over a week to give them and when I looked at them they had made comments in there I couldn't believe. Talking about my boyfriend yelling in the background and making comments that can not be mentioned. I would not recommend this vet if they were the last ones on earth! read more

I first became a client at North Cascade Vet Hospital in the early 2000s when my boys got their first dog. I have been with them for two decades and have had 9 dogs seen at their practice over the years. I had previously had wonderful experiences with them and recommended many people over the years. However, in recent years the quality of care has slipped precipitously, ultimately culminating in the needless death of one of my dogs. We noticed something was off about him and took him in for countless appointments where they recommended expensive tests that went nowhere. First he had Cushing' s Disease. Then it wasn't Cushing's. Then it was diabetes, but they offered very little support in how to care for a dog with diabetes. He kept getting progressively worse. We couldn't regulate his blood sugar. We took him for an urgent visit one morning and they came back with him and said, basically, "His blood sugar is super high. Let's increase his insulin. Goodbye." We took him home, but he was still worsening. By the end of that day we were certain something was very, very wrong. However, when we called North Cascade for help, they essentially told us to go to PEC. We tried, but PEC had a 6 -8 hour wait as their doctor was performing surgery. We didn't think he would make it another 6-8 hours. We called NCVH back again. This time we were told to try Bellingham's emergency pet clinic - anything, apparently, to keep them from having to deal with it. We tried that and were told it would be a 3-4 hour wait. We called NCVH back and they said that's all the advice they had for us. It was only 3 pm on a weekday, but they still refused to see him again. We took him to another vet in Bellingham who agreed to fit him in. Turns out he DID have Cushing's disease, and since it went untreated it led to him being insulin resistant. Furthermore, he had a pretty severe case of pancreatitis that SHOULD have been discovered in the lab work NCVH did. It was never mentioned to us. The vet we took our beautiful, sweet Chocolate Lab to tried so hard. For two full weeks he fought the good fight to save our brave boy. But the damage was too severe by then and he just couldn't save him. I one hundred and fifty percent blame the vets at NCVH. They seem to care much more now about quantity over quality. The docs fly in and out and act rushed and as though you are an inconvenience with your injured or ill pet. I no longer recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I warn people to stay far away. I pulled my remaining 3 dogs and have placed them at another vet. It's a shame after two decades and thousands upon thousands of dollars spent at this facility that it has slipped so low, so fast. They called to apologize -- far too late -- about being refused service on the day we ended up at another vet in Bellingham. But it was a hollow apology in which the vet on the phone threw the reception staff under the bus and took no responsibility at all. Disappointing doesn't even cover it. Their prices continue to rise, the quality of care continues to fall and I can't stress this enough -- you should avoid them at all costs. They should not be rewarded for their negligence. My dog paid with his life and we are all heartbroken. I don't typically give negative reviews, but in this case -- if I can save even one person the heartbreak and pain we've gone through, I'll do it. Shame, shame, shame on you North Cascade Veterinary Hospital. read more

They are reasonably priced and considerate. However, my dog has had to undergo anesthesia today for a loose tooth removal and her teeth were cleaned here in March. You have to ask for Xrays.. had they had Xrays (I don't care about saving money as much as my dog's health) then she wouldn't have to be put under twice within four months. It was one of her back teeth, larger... they don't rot that quickly. read more

Recently moved to the area from Southern California. Loved my old vet and was extremely worried about finding a new replacement. I have two dogs, one of which is a special case rescue that has a truly horrible background. Finding a vet that would take the time and bond with my dogs was very important. Dr. Squibb was on the ground playing with my rescue within seconds of meeting her. We talked for quite some time before he finally took her in the back for the exam. He offered multiple options for her condition, one of which he printed out a weblink for me to order the product cheaper than they could sell it to me for. So far I'm very impressed. I've been there a few times, since she has to go in for monthly visits usually. read more

I recently brought my cat, Charlie, in because she was having cough attacks. I called in and consulted with someone over the phone, who suggested I bring my cat in sooner rather than later. Was able to make an appointment the same day. Check-in was quick and I waited less than 5 minutes, which was nice since I had to leave my cat in the car due to possibly being contagious. Dr. Caswell was so great with my cat! She let Charlie roam the room, chatted with me about cat-life, and then examined her. One of my concerns going in was the cost of services since we didn't know what was wrong and what diagnostic testing we may need. Dr. Caswell didn't push for any testing (which would've cost at least $150) and I really didn't get the sense that this clinic is just trying to push services to make money of their patients. Everything, from the office visit to the steroid shot and antibiotics, was very affordable. I got a call from the office (on a Saturday, mind you) to check in on Charlie and to see how she is responding to the antibiotics; seriously great "patient" care and service from this vet clinic. I live out of state and just happened to be in town visiting my parents when Charlie got sick. I feel at ease knowing that there is a clinic and Doctor that I trust so close to where my parents live! read more

I love this place. They've been my go-to for many years. There are tough choices out there when dealing with pets you love. Dr. Squibb will give you the real info, real world, bottom line. If a procedure or test won't really change the outcome or treatment, he will tell you. They spend the time with you rather than speed you through. Prices are reasonable in the scheme of things. Nothing like big city vets down south where they won't even let you be in with the pet when they examine it and charge you 5X as much. AAA+ read more

I used to take my animals here all the time. I loved the vets here, trusted and respected them. I have had emergencies with my pets and this clinic was always there for me, providing support, comfort or anything else that was needed. I lost my husband 2 years ago and my little dog has been a great comfort to me. Yesterday, I had an emergency. My dog's breathing was compromised so I called this clinic right away to tell them I was bringing him in only to be told they could not see him until Monday! Imagine my surprise and horror. Where was my caring, understanding, sympathetic and empathetic vet family? It felt like a slap in the face! My dog would not have made it until Monday. I had to entrust his life with total strangers and not the vets that know my dog so well. I took him to the Chuckanut Vet and they took him right away. They were also very busy but saw that he was having breathing issues. I am highly disappointed and heartbroken but I am definitely changing vets after having lost the caring, loving people that used to be there. I realize things have changed since Covid, but has humanity been forgotten too? An emergency and my dog can't be seen until MONDAY????? Thank God the Chuckanut Vet Clinic still has a heart. read more

We are from California and we were on a road trip to Canada when our fur baby got what we thought was ring worm. Being new pup parents we weren't sure what we were dealing with and wanted to take care of it asap. Not only was the staff helpful over the phone, they were able to schedule us an appointment on Monday morning, got us in on time(which is rare for any doctors office), figured out that it wasn't ring worm but a bacterial infection, answered all of my husbands questions (it was his first vet visit, it was cute) and got us out of the office with a new patient discount, antibiotics and a happy pup all under $80! What?! Maybe it's because were from California, but what a great experience! read more

5 stars for the vet techs here. I feel like they know my dogs better than the doctors themselves and they all have excellent bedside manner (except for one person; she insisted on taking my dog's weight despite him being unable to stand and in pain, and also seemed miffed that I already knew his weight). Areas of improvement: I do feel the doctors could familiarize themselves with working dogs, whether they be hounds, shepherds, or sled dogs and their respective lifestyles. I've had vets familiar with working dogs counter the advice given to me by Dr. Kenyan. Some of the suggestions she was providing me were either unnecessary and unfeasible. I know it's highly likely that vets will offer differing advice depending on their experience and focuses, but please consider that despite being in a suburban setting, you are still in Skagit Valley -- a partially rural area, where animals may not only be pets, but have jobs as well. The new receptionist could improve her tone when speaking with clients going through difficult situations with their fur kids. I know she's new and she's trying, and so far she's doing well, but please consider how to empathize with clients over the phone. Aside from that, North Cascade has always done an excellent job accommodating my last minute emergency appointments (much to my credit card's dismay). While I miss Dr. Hinkley, Dr. Squibb has an excellent understanding of working dogs and is very enthusiastic about it. read more

My first review, hoping it can save the lives of other animals, too late for mine. This was a great clinic when Tim Howland owned it, brought various pets in over the years, totally happy. NO MORE. All the vets and staff I liked are gone. I brought my dog in for flea allergy to a new vet, whose name was not on his records so don't know. she recommended Nexgard about which I knew nothing but thought I had read flea pills shouldn't be given to dogs with a history of neurologic issues, which my dog had had a couple undiagnosed nonseizure events. She insisted it was safe. My dog was a herding breed which can carry MDR1 gene making such toxins much more deadly. She did not inform of the danger or suggest i test for presence of gene. Both could be considered malpractice as it isn't safe for either. I gave him the pill and googled it when i got home and discovered lots of animals were poisoned and dying from Nexgard. Too late, I wish i had never given it to him. he started having problems the next day, lethargy. This was a 6 year old very high energy healthy agility athlete. A few days later had anxiety all day, then got wobbly and collapsed for 30 minutes, head weaving, etc.nothing like previous events, which hadn't happened for years. Then he got a gaggy cough that lasted for weeks and was much less energetic and sometimes lost interest in things he loved. I talked to Jason Squibb a few times. He was very demeaning, said the symptoms weren't related to nexgard and the online groups were a few crazies,etc etc(The group I was following had 9000 members, one of many groups, now numbering around 100,000). He did say he would write an adverse reaction report to the company. My poor dog continued to have problems, i wrote Squibb asking for proof of report and described his symptoms. Squibb wrote back telling me i wasn't welcome at his clinic. He wrote a report at the same time and it had none of his symptoms listed, except lethargy, which he blamed on 3 days of low dose prednisone. There was no concern for my dog's well being. A few months later after more collapses and problems, my dog was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma (at a different clinic, I would never go back),and died 4 months later, a direct result of nexgard. I wrote N cascades he had died. I never got any " sorry your beloved pet suffered terribly and died". What i got was, "time for his wellness exam" postcards. Which came until I called in tears and told them to STOP. North cascades killed my best friend read more

First off, if i could give this hell hole a o star review, i would. 3 months ago my best friend of 7 years passed away due to ingestion of rat poison. Back track 4 days before her death, she had started coughing and become very lethargic. the day she got the symptoms, we took her into this vet hospital and the doctor, without doing any blood work or any diagnosis of any type, said that my dog had kennel cough. which is very unusual because baylee was never around other dogs and had all of her vaccines. we told the doctor this but he still stuck with his ass backwards diagnosis. that night her condition worsened and so we took her to another emergency clinic, it was too late and we could not save. the part that pisses me off is that she did not die peaceful, she suffered and bled to death internally, she could not walk, and no way to defecate or urinate. And this all boils down to the cold hard truth that if the hospital would have done their fucking job, my best friend had a chance of being saved. thank you for reading my story and understanding my point of view. read more

Best vet ever!!! Dr. Squibb is my vet. I drive 2 hours to see him and worth every minute and more. I can't say enough great things about this doctor, the hospital and his staff, and I'm very picky. The office is extremely clean, well-stocked and well-ran and the staff is absolutely the best. However, the true gem is Dr. Squibb. He's extremely knowledgeable and most important to me is that he's so kind, patient and empathetic/compassionate; actually the entire staff is. I came in a couple of weeks ago after my dog had a major seizure. It was towards the end of the day and I was desperate to have them see her. They waited 45 minutes after hours for me and they never ever made me feel rushed or bad for being late. I came in so upset and was crying because I thought I was going to have to put my beloved dog down. But, Dr. Squibb gave me the best present in the world and gave me hope and precious time with my baby girl. Every day she's with me is the best day ever for me. He placed her on new medication and its now been 2 weeks and she hasn't had any more seizures for now. She has a brain tumor and I know its a matter of time, but the gift of time and comfort he gave me is priceless. The staff is super professional and they really cater to their patients. As busy as they are, Dr. Squibb personally called me the following day to check up on us and spent a lot of time answering all my questions and gave me more suggestions to help my Sasha. They again called me today to check on her. They really do care and that means the world to me. No matter where I live in the future, Dr. Squibb will be my vet for life. read more

been going there since 2005 (from word of mouth recommendation) after trying 2 other places, very friendly & accommodating - they've gone through a lot of vets over the 10+ years but we've never had a rude or weird or unfriendly one, and their assistants are all super pet friendly and careful... pretty pricey if you have a lot of pets but they do offer monthly specials & reduced fees for multiple critters per visit, and they sell the better animal foods (meat vs bi-products) & effective flea treatments - highly recommend them read more
