When the weather is good, the patio is a must. They have tables and couches for you to pick. We went their for brunch, and it was great. I ordered the breakfast tacos which had chorizo in it. I was delicious. Forewarning, it is a pork product, so it does drip flavorful grease. The breakfast burrito was also ordered at my tabled. It was filled with bacon, potato, and eggs. It was also smothered in pork green chili which was not too spicy. They also brought over some local hot sauce to spice anything up. I've heard so many great things about North County and once I saw they had HH (Happy Hour) all day on Monday I decided I had to check it out for myself. So this past Monday, I headed to Lowry to see what all the fuss was about. The Space/Atmosphere: Super cozy and fun! When you walk in you can see that bar with some really cute orange wire bar chairs, some intimate booths, and of course a few tables. That patio is where it's at though. Had it been a warm summer day I would've totally taken advantage of that space. The decor is very casual modern with a bit of coastal flair. The Drinks: For my beverage I chose the sangria. While it was good, it wasn't amazing. I did see a rather impressive tequila line up behind the bar. Perhaps I just chose the wrong drink. I'll give another cocktail a try next time or ask for a recommendation from my server. The Food: I noshed on the Slow Roasted Pork Torta. Is was pretty dang delish! I've had run of the mill tortas before, but this one was served with a chile jus that you either dipped in or poured on your torta. Yum! It also came topped with black bean puree, guacamole, pickled red onions, jalapeño pickles, fire roasted poblano peppers, and chipotle aioli. The side of fries were equally as tasty. Perfectly fried and a great compliment to the flavorful torta. The Service: I grabbed a seat at the bar which is always my preferred seating when out on my own. The bartenders were really friendly and made some great recommendations for my meal. They checked back with me several times to ensure all my needs were met. The area I found out used to be military owned. The hangar like building is now a storage facility. North County sits behind it. Large parking lot. Courtesy of the military planning. NC is very inviting. Reception area who's manned by a very efficient gentleman is to your left as you walk in. Straight ahead you would immediately see the bar. It's lively and full on a Monday evening around 6:30. To your left is the exit door to their outside sitting area with heating lamps. They don't take reservations. I'm still bothered by establishments that do this. I'm not a flake and I'm almost always on time. Probably some of you share my sentiments. If I'm told my wait is longer than half hour I walk away. Reasons for doing that are different at times but mainly because of time constraints. They don't even use Yelp waitlist. Come on Yelp. Go after establishments like this that don't take reservations! Here the wait was about ten minutes. We got lucky. So our party of five sat down in one of their booths in the back facing the bar. I say this: nice view. It's a busy bar. Our server was awesome. She gave us the lowdown and confirmed what my friend has been raving about. Their house made Adult sodas. They were good...! We tried: $2 charcoal grilled oysters , $10.50 1/2 lb peel and eat shrimp, $10 mussels and fries and $2 rock lobster taco. The food HH food was not bad. I've had better. My mussels were dry. The lobster taco probably my favorite of the bunch. The peel and eat shrimp. Better than a previous place I went most recently but I've had better. The deal here is the House Bottled Alcoholic Soda. It's batched and bottled in house. It is lightly carbonated. $10. I ordered the North County Paloma for myself but quickly regretted the choice after trying my friends The Drunken Burro. It's Home made ginger beer, Serrano pepper, and ginger infused Absolut vodka and mango purée. It's like a cocktail but it comes in this short soda bottle that's opened table side and poured into an ice cube loaded glass. Heaven! My second choice was The Darkest Berry. Third The Paloma. Fourth Strawberry Lemonade. Yes there's only four choices and yes I tired them all. Lush? Look at yourself in the mirror :) I know what you're thinking. $10? It's alcohol you cheapskate. Here's $2 off on HH Monday. Happy now? Try it once. I drink and eat out a lot. One thing I hate is paying for alcohol. But I do it and I do a lot of it! It is what it is. So fork up! Happy to say this is one of the few places in Denver that has food reminiscent of San Diego fare. I had the blackened fish po boy. It was tasty, but could have used more fish. It had a good amount of of toppings though, so it wasn't all bread like how some places make their sandwiches. The poke bowl was good as well and was a nice, light alternative. Sorry to say it, but it was awful - top to bottom. We had a reservation for a party of 6 and some of us showed up early - they were able to seat us. Then the rest of the group arrived on time and they were sat at a different table. Then it got worse. The calamari was over cooked - one of the orders never got delivered & they had no idea until we tracked them down 10 minutes after we all had food. Their signature dish was cold. They have a good Sunday deal with street tacos and a pitcher of margarita but otherwise it tends to be overpriced for what you order. Drinks and food are expensive for a loose take on Mexican food. As someone who used to actually live in North County San Diego, this place doesn't do much justice. They do however have a lovely patio to hang with friends and enjoy good weather. I lived a couple blocks from Tamarack beach for 2 years and loved north county SDs style of Mexican food so I was cautiously excited when I heard about this spot in Denver. We finally made the trip to the freeway black hole of access that is this area and overall, good food, but out it side by side with other spots around Denver and I don't know if I'd be able to point it out as distinctly north county style. I'd describe north county style as simple ingredients, well seasoned you can eat quickly then head back to the beach. They had some of the idea but maybe a little too much editing for Colorado. Scallop ceviche (5/5) - really tasty and fresh with a nice level of heat. Like the jicama and cucumber scoops! California burrito (4/5) - let me start by saying I overall enjoyed it. But smothering it in green Chile??? While the ingredients inside were correct, never would you find a Cali burrito nor any other burrito smothered. You can't carry a surfboard and eat that. Tacos... Crispy fish (4/5) - good crisp and balance with the cabbage Grilled fish (5/5)- love the catches of the day. We had the barramundi and it was tasty Al pastor (3/5)- good but the pastor seasoning did not come through enough Chorizo and potato (4/5) - good chorizo that wasn't served in a pool of grease. Could have been spicier with chunks of potato instead of shredded Overall, I would happily go back and enjoy eating here but if I'm craving some north county SD Mexican food, this won't get the job done. read more

Don't miss out on their house infused cocktails that they bottle onsite! Grapefruit! Oh my godddddd this place was incredible. I went with a friend on a Friday a little after 6. They weren't QUITE on a wait yet, but they were pretty full. They had a large patio with misters, but the only tables available were in full sun, so we opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was attentive, prompt, and friendly. I had a beer battered fish taco and chicken tinga. Both were INCREDIBLE. It was hard to find corn tortillas in Canada, so I feel I can confidently say these were the best tortillas I've had in several years. I love that the tacos are cheap and sold individually so you can mix and match. The salsa was also super good. To drink I had a Sterling Silver Coin margarita. It was served in a shaker, but not a very large one. it was probably 1.5 ritas, which works for me for $9. There was also a girl walking around giving samples of some sort of delicious infused tequila drink. They had no problem giving out their wifi password, and the service was just really great. Quick bussing, they leave the check in front of you so you can pay as soon as you're ready, the hosts were friendly and greeted us/thanked us as we left. I've come to North County a few times now, and while my husband is a fan I can't say I've found the connection. It's definitely on the pricey side, particularly for the amount of food that you get. The waitstaff have always been attentive and pleasant. I've tried a few different tacos and found them to be decent, but nothing special. The ambience is nice and the drinks are solid, but I think the price for what you get doesn't quite add up for me. I'd rather get tacos at one of the many delicious, if less trendy, places nearby. read more

I really do not know how I've never reviewed North County before. I've been probably 20 times in the last year, no joke. It's an excellent joint with fun patio seating, a great interior, excellent servers and bartenders. They do a hefty to-go business what with COVID and all, and their mask compliance is excellent for both servers and patrons alike. Really wonderful tacos; it's not a super varied taco menu, but what they have is delicious and reliable. Their carne asada fries are absolutely to-die-for. Their margaritas are all quite wonderful. And their bartender Maria always brings us a special little tequila shot treat with this amazing sort of spicy juice to wash it down and just like...it's perfect. It's just great. The only knock I can really give North County is that their guac isn't that great. It's fairly bland and they add tomatoes. Everyone knows you only add tomatoes to guac if you're trying to add filler. they could add a bit more salt, pepper, and a dash of garlic too. It's an awesome Cali-Mex resto with great people and great food and honestly I don't understand what more you could want. read more

What a terrific find on what used to be the grounds of the old Lowry Base in east Denver. Even if you're not partaking of the more than 100 interesting tequilas on the special drink menu, you will not be disappointed. There's a full bar and great wine list as well. Onto the food...really interesting Mexican cuisine. We had the tasting appetizer plate to start with, as well as a fresh tuna crudo and a grilled cheese platter you will come back for. Nobody leaves this joint hungry. Then there's the service. We were greeted right away so warmly by the woman who was manager on duty, that we felt immediately at home. She gave us a great table and a super helpful server named Christopher. He wasn't just friendly, but extremely knowledgeable. It wasn't until we were leaving that we discovered it was his first week there. Almost forgot... chocolate filled churros with crème anglaise for dessert. Out of this world! read more

Dinner on 10/27. Ordered chips and salsa with guacamole- the salsa was very frozen. We had to use our utensils to mix it all up due to the top layer being almost icy solid. My friend and I ordered the grilled shrimp taco and 2 other tacos. The "grilled shrimp" was not at all grilled, and was cold and soft. Chicken tinga was okay. The palomino drink was delicious (the highlight of the dining experience). While all of this was permissible, what really bothered us was our server. He was rude and dropped our bill on the table and walked away (we were still drinking our cocktails and eating the chips and guacamole, and had only been there an hour). I'm not sure if he was having a bad night or something, but he grabbed our check book and when he returned, only one card was returned, with everything being placed on one. When we tried to flag him down for my friend's card, he disappeared and dropped her card on the table and said a co worker had found it on the floor. He was not nice or welcoming at all. I don't think we will be returning. Maybe it was an off night, maybe not. I don't really want to find out after such a subpar experience. read more

Apparently I started this review during the pandemic but failed to post it which is ONLY a testament to how quarantine is going (I have 3 teenagers... please send help or North County margaritas, whichever is easier). Ordering takeaway at the beginning of quarantine from North County, came with a THANK YOU note signed by members of the staff. Sometimes it's the little things. And while I'm Southern (and therefore uniquely qualified to review "Thank You" notes), the food review is more apropos. In short... it's perfection. The house margarita (we collectively agree to KEEP takeaway alcohol once this is all over, right???), the guacamole, and the El Pastor street tacos from North County could be my desert island food, or last meal, depending on how things are going. They are that good. Don't overlook or forget about their happy hour and daily deals as well! We went here for brunch on a Saturday morning based on what friends had told us about the food. It is in a pretty cool location next to the old hangar that has been turned into storage. The inside décor is pleasant and uncluttered with a nice layout. The place was very clean so I passed on my customary bathroom inspection. The service was a little slow considering they weren't real busy but the manager fills in the gaps by his visits to tables to address needs. The staff seemed friendly and were able to answer our questions with confidence. We all shared the fries smothered with green chili and cheese. The fries were just normal fries but add that real good green chili and they were delicious. For my meal I ordered 3 tacos, chicken, mole short rib and beef. The tacos are small but neatly presented with an appropriate amount of protein. The chicken and beef tacos were ok as tacos go, I have had better and I have had worse. I loved the mole short rib taco, it was succulent and had just the right balance of flavors. I will return for the mole short rib tacos and a bowl of the green chili on a Saturday morning again. I really wanted to like this place. I live so close by. I have gone here a handful of times for the sake of second--third--and fourth chances. The one outstanding thing they had on their menu was the grilled octopus which is now gone. Apart from the awesome waitstaff, great decor and awesome ambiance, there isn't much to say about their food. This last time I got four of their dishes: the mussles, ceviche, a cod fish taco and some raw East coast oysters. The oysters were superb but they were raw and required little to no preparation. The mussels were overcooked and as such, the chorizo overpowered the taste. The taco wasn't anything to shout over the rooftops over. It was the ceviche that was the biggest disappointment. The ceviche was under seasoned and lacked acid. I've never had ceviche without any kind of citrus to it. The addition of the crab meat made the ceviche sweet which coupled with the lacj of acid just made the taste and texture overall confusing. The ingredients to the dishes dictates the moderatey high price of the food, but it just wasn't a good combination of said ingredients and was overall a bug disappointment. Sad day. read more

It wasn't that busy when we showed up mid-afternoon. We had a wrap around booth spot near the open kitchen . The inside of the restaurant had a cool vibe with the bar in the middle and the regular seating surrounding it. There was some really nice outdoor seating as well. The staff was friendly with our waiter being a little lackadaisical. We ordered nachos as an appetizer, a mix of tacos, veg bowl, and some oysters. We ordered our nachos first, then a few minutes later everything else. Our nachos took a long time to make and we had around 3 minutes to eat them before everything showed up . . . My street tacos came out cold and dripping . . . with whatever pot juices the meats came out with - like they didn't let the excess drip off before they placed the meat on the mini tortilla. I had 3 on my plate floating in the juices, lol. I didn't like the taste of any of them. I've eaten some excellent street tacos in both Los Angeles and San Diego -- the tacos here at North County don't measure up. Nachos were the best of the bunch. As others have said, there is now a mandatory 21% service fee attached to all tickets. Very expensive place to eat not that great food in a great location. I would look elsewhere. read more

This place is soooo cool! It's on the grounds of an old airport for a military branch. The design is architectural salvage meets retro beach chic. The building is surrounded by an enormous old hangar and our table also had a good view of the old control tower. It's a bit pricey but I thought it was worth it. The chips, salsa and guacamole are exceptional if you're like me and prefer an emphasis on cilantro and lime. I had the duck confit that comes with sweet potato hash, corn succotash, eggs, and fresh fruit. It was good but I wish the server had told me the entree was pretty spicy - I couldn't finish it because of that. Perhaps my fault for not asking however. The entree was mixed so I couldn't tell what the main culprit was. We had a fun server and a wonderful time regardless. read more

In fact, when our server introduced herself and dropped off water, she asked if we wanted to start with chips and salsa. My knee jerk response is yes, food pleaze, but I decided to ask how much...long story short, she was pushing the sale, even skipping past the happy hour version and going for the main menu upsell. So, that wasn't a great start. We did end up starting with HH chips and salsa which were decent. Still, they get an a-ok rating for their chill indoor/outdoor setup, easy parking and pretty good food. Plus, Mondays are all-day happy hour and our margs came with the cutest little mini shaker to top off our drinks. I know it's just a gimmick and not an extra large pour, but I totally fell for it. With HH, we got good deals on pastor and rock lobster tacos, both of which were good but nothing that stands out from Chingones or Machete. We also both got the special of the day which was a tostada and the lowlight of the meal. Chicken was dry AF and the thing was street taco size. Each one was $4.50 and a complete ripoff. I was annoyed upon seeing the bill but it was too late, and I just wanted to leave. Not gonna dissuade anyone from going, but probably won't go out of my way to eat here again. P.S.
