    Merry Christmas
    David J.

Ok. So this place! I grew up on the North Fork, and visit my family in Cutchogue when I get the chance. This place! I was looking for a coffee shop on Christmas Eve day--none to be found open--so I decided, wine. I had already been here a few nights before for a quick beer and really enjoyed the atmosphere. They have great craft beers on tap. They have local, foreign, and craft beers throughout the U.S. They have a great selection of wines. They don't just have Long Island wine, which is fortunate because I find wine from L.I. to lack flavor and follow through. This is a bar. You can buy food from another place and bring it in. Michelangelo's Pizza is right in front of them on the Main Road--good choice. Grab a pizza, walk in, belly up to the bar, one of the many corner nooks, upstairs area, or hightop table, and enjoy your food with a drink. The owner is cheery, receptive, and congenial. I enjoyed my conversation with her, which lasted quite a while, and she was so hospitable. I followed her suggestions of wine, based off what I described as my likes, and she did not disappoint. As for pricing, I haven't found such a well priced bar, that was not a dive bar. My two glasses of wine came out to 14 dollars. Seriously! The atmosphere is comfortable. Warm. Inviting. Cheery. Like I said. This is a bar. Not a slug back shots type bar, or a get rowdy bar, but a hardy guffaw, enjoy each other's company, slap your friend on the back, or get cozy in the corner with the one you love, type bar. A bar where you can enjoy.

Great final stop after spending the day on the north fork. Nice beer & wine selection. Could use a couple more local beer options. Good Guinness - as promised! Nice amount of seating and I liked the decor. It had a bit of a cozy pub feel to it and the bartender was very friendly.

Why have I been walking past Alpina everytime I'm in Greenport?…read more Was it the dark atmosphere? Did I think I was getting just another American-German influenced restaurant with only brats and potato pancakes? Did I expect polka? The experience was actually slow and refined, without the white tablecloths. Alpina has German, Swiss, and slightly Northern Italian influenced cuisine, along with a selection of alcohols I was completely unfamiliar with... which made the experience feel full of new things. The most memorable food was actually one of the simplest. The chef prepared incredibly creamy, caramelized onions with a slight sauerkraut tang that was amazeballs. I told our waiter that I'd write him a love letter over it, and here I am! The pappardelle had shredded duck, cheese, and big, fun, chewy noodles that were satisfying to slurp. It just needed a dash of pepper to elevate it. The meat and cheese board included a few things I'd never tried before, and it was so good I was searching for a meat shop in Manhattan so we could buy them again. Portion sizes aren't huge for the price, but it was worth it to us. Don't be afraid of the dark entrance, the ligonberry on the menu, and ask the bartender about the connection between the giant copper gnome and penguin shaker gone rouge.

The bomb dish ( in a good way) was the linguine with lobster. Wow!!! Many places here on EH destroy your wallet just by using the title " lobster" this perfectly seasoned dish is a light butter cream sauce was not at all heavy the lobster plentiful and frankly enough for two ppl All in all my only complaint is that they are only open Wednesday through Saturday but hey.. if it's that good it worth planning around their schedule. This two-story waterfront restaurant has all the bougie summer vibes (at least upstairs). Our group of five dined over oysters, steak and frites, watermelon salad... Unfortunately, that wasn't possible during this visit because our waitress rarely checked on us, so I wanted to share our experience here. We made a reservation and weren't sure if it specified indoor or outdoor seating, so we called ahead. We were told that getting an upstairs outdoor table would be no problem. However, when we arrived, we were told our reservation was for inside seating only and that the wait for outside would be an additional 1 hour and 45 minutes. We really wanted to sit outside, but rather than make an issue of it, we decided to stay inside. Looking back, we probably should have left. The cocktails were underwhelming, especially considering the price. The highlights of the meal were the duck wings and calamari appetizers, which gave us high hopes for the entrees. Unfortunately, the entrees were a major disappointment. Two people ordered the halibut, and while we understand halibut is a delicate fish that can be difficult to prepare, the dish lacked flavor overall. The foam that came with it tasted horrible--almost soapy--and although the rice and eggplant were good, they weren't flavorful enough to complement the fish. I ordered the tuna burger and specifically requested it cooked medium because I didn't want it to be dry. Unfortunately, it arrived very dry, was falling apart, and lacked flavor. I ended up asking for a side of teriyaki sauce just to make it enjoyable- that didn't help at all and left half the sandwich in my plate. The tuna burger was supposed to come with sweet potato noodles, but they were out-which is not an issue for me, usually. The waitress asked if I'd like a substitute. None of the suggested sides appealed to me, so I asked if I could have the sweet potato purée instead since I saw it for the duck entree. Instead, I was initially served fries. I asked the person who served me, if I can get the puree, the server was confused but eventually understood. When the purée finally arrived, it was unfortunately inedible. The texture and taste reminded me of baby food, and even adding salt and pepper didn't help. I passed it around to the other folks at the table, all saying the same thing. What made the experience even more disappointing was the service. Our waitress never came back to check on our meals, so we never had the opportunity to share our concerns while we were dining. She spent much of the evening chatting with other staff members and seemed distracted with friends and kids running around near the lobster tank. When we finished, another server brought us the check, and no one asked how our meal was or if everything was satisfactory. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially for the amount we spent. The restaurant itself is beautiful, clean, and has a great atmosphere, but unfortunately the food and service did not justify the price. We left wishing we had chosen somewhere else.

We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not.
