We stopped by here for lunch, and there is a parking lot near the restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips, and this was very delicious. The fish was light and crispy. I met some friends for my birthday dinner. We had not tried out the new brewery so we wanted to show some support and give it a try. I love what they have done with the inside of the restaurant. I remember back when it was "The Brass Rail" early 1990's. Some of the original interior is still there, which is nice. The wood and brass bar is a nice look. Our server was nice and had a smile. I tried the pepperoni wood fired pizza. Very good. Pepperoni had good flavor, cheesy cheese and sauce was flavorful. The size was enough to fill my appetite. We arrived before dinner time, greeted and had our choice of seating. Drinks ordered: Old Fashioned, they were good, nice aroma and good bourbon flavor. Calamari was crispy, a touch chewy and the dipping sauce was yummy. Cheeseburger was good, cooked well, still a bit pink, no skimping on the pickles. The fish and chips were also a solid dish, fish was tender, flaky and moist. The drinks were cold and the food was hot. I liked the music. It was a nice clean place and the staff were attentive. The best tasting chicken sandwich in town is at this restaurant. The hot honey chicken sandwich is the best I've had anywhere, although I admit I can't handle hot peppers anymore & substitute the spicy pickles w/ regular pickles. It is PERFECT this way. I eat exclusively chicken & turkey for the last 30 years, so I know what I'm talking about on this. At this point, this isn't a combination I see very often, but it sure beats the only comparable version I've had, at Red Robin. I feel like I will order two the next time I get a chance. I was excited to have a new spot here in town. I'll start with the positive- The cocktails/beers from the bar were really tasty. Now for the negative, I was expecting different food items on the menu. There is a second location that offers pub type food, this location has more fusion type food. We checked out the new North Forty yesterday and loved it. The place has a great atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Our large group tried a bit of everything, but the hot honey chicken strips was a highlight, crispy with just the right amount of sweet and heat. The poutine hit the spot and the clam chowder was SO GOOD- super flavorful and clearly made with fresh, local ingredients and good price points. The cocktails were solid too! Simple, well-made, and a nice match for the food. We sat out on the patio and it was perfect, such a great spot to enjoy it. They put a lot of thought into the menu and the experience. Was super excited to return for the new menu and the experience was unfortunately not great. They were extremely busy and I expected a wait. It wasn't the hour wait that was the issue. It was completely not getting our appetizer and the waitress trying to charge me for it. It was never being checked on/waters filled up once. It was the mac & cheese being cold. It was having to flag down someone to get our check. They seemed to have several waitresses so i'm not exactly sure what the issue was that night. Should still get good service, even being busy. This is the place I will make a must stop my next time passing through. Best calamari I've had in the PNW to date. Perfectly light and crispy. Burgers were juicy, unique and extra tasty. Drinks were on point. Loved everything we tried. Only sat inside and didn't see outside seating. Inside could be spruced up a bit to make the ambiance match the outstanding food being served. Great spot! Main thing for us is kidtoddler friendly! There's an outdoor space and also a side of restaurant space with some games that you can feel comfortable bringing those wild kid vibes in! Hey, the place was empty when we first came in which is a terrible sign. They were out of a lot of items on the menu as well. Red flag... Now on to the good, they make a solid old fashioned, the North Burger was absolutely fantastic. To start it was cooked as ordered (medium) the tomato jam and aioli were perfect. Fries were cooked to perfection. I honestly can't say I've had a better burger. Dessert was fantastic as well(see photos). Service was top notch! This was our 4th time here. We tried it when it first came to North Bend and the food was pretty good. This time was borderline awful. The wait staff were polite and attentive, everything was very clean but the food was wildly underwhelming. The pretzel appetizer was a single pretzel stick with 2 dips, which was delicious but a single pretzel stick is not acceptable for the price. I ordered the hot honey chicken and slaw which was a large portion but very under seasoned. My husband ordered the braised beef over polenta and it was an extremely small portion for an adult entree, again very under seasoned. All in all the food has been pretty inconsistent and you've got about a 50/50 shot of enjoying it. read more

If you are looking for a place to hear Gordan Ramsey yell WTF is that, this is it. I had heard great things and was excited to try it. They no longer have wings or the original great looking menu. With the change of Chiefs and a small simple menus I would expect them to have wonderful flavor and service. They have an ok variety of beer and hard cider, but when I asked if they had any non alcoholic drinks our waitress said water. Turns out they have soda but she didn't realize until asked if it was an option. Our first appetizer (not pictured ) bacon Mac'n cheese. A bit runny but good flavor. Next was Beef tips. The beef tips had 4 pieces of meat. The menu said it came with noodles and it did not. It was more of a flavorless cheesy grits. The gravy is thick and the combination is mushy. Had it been with traditional egg noodle or over potatoes it could have been good. But I would never recommend this dish to another person as is. We had chicken Alfredo (not pictured) and the chicken was cold and dry like it was sitting the fridge uncovered for a few days. The linguine noodles were cooked perfectly. The sauce had no flavor unfortunately. The sweet heat burger was the only seasoned item we had. You can tell the tomatoes had been cut 2-3 days earlier and sat in the fridge because they were slimy and floppy. The onions were tossed in like an afterthought. Buns while crisp on the bottoms, were mushy. Fries taste of old oil. I hope they refine the menu and work on what they have. I don't believe we will be going back. It's one thing to watch the kitchen go out back for multiple smoke breaks in the 50 min we were there, and to see the heavily distressed (but hopefully work in progress) interior that was thrown together and doesn't flow or go together in any way. But then to have your food flavorless and visually unwell is another thing. True chefs put time and care into the flavor and presentation of each dish. I hope this place finds its footing and trains their waiters not to say " well I don't know what's good but we haven't had any complaints about these". read more

Hidden gem of Coos! The food is insane and the drinks are great. We had elote croquettes, Mac and cheese, broccolini, asparagus, grilled octopus and it was all mind blowing. Husband and I both got beer flights and all the beers were great. Would highly recommend! read more

We came back for the Korean corn dog with roasted potatoes imbedded in the dough, but were blown away by the amazing salads: hummus plate (olives, pickled spicy carrots, purple daikon, marcona almonds) and caprese salad with literal slabs of huge heirloom tomato and burrata cheese topped with fresh basil, cherry toms and some kind of balsamic infusion. Huge and delicious, both came with outrageously good house-made baguettes which were extra good because they toasted them on the grill before a light olive oil. Wow! Checked out the new brewery in town - good was pretty decent, good Mexican lager, good red ale. The prices were a little comical though - $32 for a fish and chips that was a single, admittedly thick and tasty, piece of halibut. Not bad overall - pricing was outrageous. read more

Second time coming in to try this new place - first time very packed as it was their opening weekend! Had a beer as they have a nice line up (beer was lukewarm warm)! Service seems to stall out at the bar as they mix specialty drinks and seem to ignore patrons! Should have 2 tenders so that they can handle the patrons both wanting the specialty drinks that evidently takes some thought as it takes a long time to mix 1 drink! Seen and talked to several people this first time and decided not to order any food as people were leaving allot of food on the plate when they left! Didn't seem like a good sign when the average plate is $25! Second time thought I would take my wife out on the town and treat her to a meal here! 15 minutes went by before being asked if we would like something to drink - the main dining room was empty - outside dining 5 people! That was it! When asked we told the bartender what we wanted to drink - she went back to mixing these fancy drinks! 5 more minutes went by - no drinks still mixing fancy drinks! It only takes a second to pour a beer! Yep I bet you can guess what happened next - walked out went down the street to Humboldt and had a beer within a couple of minutes and the place was packed! We celebrated our 33 anniversary at North Forty. Complements t and suggestions from friends. The atmosphere was pleasantry rustic and clean. There is a comprehensive beer menu, but neither of us drink alcohol. The owner greeted us and was very accommodating and friendly. While the menu is limited, as a trained chef I find it is better to few thing well rather than an extensive menu. My wife had the Alfredo Pasta and I had the Braised Beef Tips over Creamy Polenta. We tried each others entrees. The Alfredo Pasta was outstanding and you'd could tell it's homemade. The Beef Tips were amazing and extremely tender. The chef really knows her stuff and uses fresh ingredients and really makes dishes better than you'd expect. The service was friendly and professional. I also found the prices reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. If you live in Coos Bay/North Bend, like us,or just visiting this is definitely the place to go. read more

We had a great seat by the window. Very comfortable and the noise level was low enough to have a normal conversation. Restaurant was clean when we were there on a Friday around 4pm. Service was excellent and very friendly. The drinks were okay. I tried all the cocktails and they were a bit sour and difficult to finish but that's just one girl's opinion. The thing that turned it around and made it my new #1 was the North 40 burger. It's genius ingredients all come together in burger perfection! Tomato paste? Sounded odd to me but it goes perfectly with the amazing, juicy and expertly cooked beef/waygu patty. It was messy and delicious. The bun somehow absorbs all the juices without becoming soggy.
