I always heard mixed reviews about North Italia which drew me away from even wanting to try it out. But, when our original reservation at a different restaurant was cancelled we decided to enjoy some Italian food on Christmas Eve. We had a reservation, so we were sat right away. The Christmas decor was simple but so pretty. Our server was so nice and definitely gave us some pointers on the menu. We started with the meatballs and calamari. Both appetizers were so good! We then enjoyed our pastas - which did not disappoint! And ended with the oh so delicious dark chocolate torta! I am glad I have North Italia a try b/c previous reviews do not do it justice. Not consistent as the Scottsdale location with their pizza or pasta! I've ordered the bolognese pasta my last two visits and they were completely different. Anyone want some pasta with their bolognese sauce? My pasta was drowning in sauce. As you can see in the photo, that's what's left after I had eaten some sauce and finished my pasta. I had to dig around my sauce to find pasta. The waitress even had the audacity to say "better to have lots of sauce than too little, haha". No. Not in this case. Their Margherita pizza not a traditional one! Husband didn't think it tasted like sourdough. Also, the sauce was not tangy like a correct Margherita pizza. Burrata is the way to go! If you love cheese you'll love this dish! Unfortunately this location does not serve the mussels appetizer so that was a downer. Not do they have the Ny strip steak. Another downer at this location. I always love the Italian farm salad. Squid ink pasta is delicious but spicy. Pesto chicken is always a good staple too. We had a beautiful and tasty meal at North Italia in Gilbert - To start we shared the Arancini, made with crispy mushroom risotto, alongside some Grilled bread with good oil. The Arancini was fried well and not oily, and the piping hot risotto was very tasty. The modest ladle of tomato sauce to dip them in is sweet but savory. Thick slices of grilled bread drizzled with Good oil and Balsamic vinegar are more delicious than you'd expect. These were a great combo, and if you wanted a whole meal of appetizers, the Italian meatballs would be an awesome third choice. Pasta for dinner was the consensus and our reason for coming to North Italia. Spicy rigatoni vodka, Chicken pesto and Glazed short rib Cavatelli are all great! I loved my vodka pasta, and it was even tastier the next day (love me some leftovers!). Next time I'd like to try a pizza, perhaps the chef's choice, or the roasted salmon with carnalized cauliflower. That might be the only way I eat my vegetables... Dessert was a highlight! Two of us ordered tiramisu but only one was left. I decided to try something new and absolutely loved(!) the Hazelnut torta topped with salted caramel gelato. The gelato menu changes daily, but if you can, try the salted caramel. Sweet and just a tad salty, the gelato went perfectly atop the torta and toffee. Starting with the ambiance it was very nice in terms of appearance however this really ends there. My personal experience was much different than the appearance of the restaurant. First lets talk service. I had a reservation for 7:30, we arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation and we were not seated at our reservation time. This for me personally is not too much of an issue, however once we were seated we were sat right next to the kitchen where the staff was constantly entering and exiting. It made it really hard to hear and made the overall experience unpleasant. My partner was much more disappointed than I was. I was trying to continue to make the best of it so we continued the meal. I understand the seating if we didn't make a reservation, but we did hence the disappointment. We proceeded to order a few things from the menu; however, it was hard to hear the waiter and I felt a bit rushed by him. His tone was friendly but the actions were not necessarily. His service to the table next to us was much better than ours. For appetizers we ordered the meatballs and the white truffle garlic bread which were very good in my opinion. For dinner we ordered pasta dishes as we wanted a true test of an Italian Restaurant which in terms of food is pasta. I had the Lasagna and my partner had the Cavatelli. The recipes were good in terms of flavor profile but the pasta was extremely overcooked. In terms of overall experience: good menu poor preparation of the pasta, lackluster service from the hosting staff, inconsistent service from our waiter, does not match price points in the restaurant. I am still on the hunt for a good Italian restaurant in the area. This was my first attempt, do not see myself going back. read more

Not my first time at North Italia, but my first time at this location. I was pretty surprised reading some of the negative reviews for this location. My husband and I had a fantastic meal. We had a hard time getting a reservation around the weekend, so we walked in on a Tuesday with our fingers crossed. Luckily we found two seats at the bar and were promptly greeted by the bartender. White truffle garlic bread, arugula & avocado salad, vodka pasta with spicy sausage, and roasted broccoli. Washed down with a bottle of Pinot, it was a 10/10 meal. My favorite part? They took the service an extra step. The gentleman who took our order asked if we were splitting the food. We replied yes, and each dish came out split into two generous portions. It was such a nice gesture and very much appreciated. Parking is easy enough in the surrounding lot. My only advice is to get a reservation weeks in advance if you want to come on a Friday or Saturday! read more

Went here today for lunch. The place was pretty busy for a Friday at 1 p.m. The service was horribly slow and very unattentive. Our food took a solid 20-30 minutes after ordering. The prices are also pretty high for what you get portion wise. I ordered The Pig pizza. It was good, but nothing special for $18. You could probably share it with someone, but most people don't do that for a lunch with friends. Plus you would both still be hungry. Went to this spot hoping for a quick happy drink and to get some work done. Their happy hour menu is decent with great prices. I got a glass of white wine and the prosciutto bruschetta. The only downfall of the happy hour menu is there are no detailed descriptions of the food. The prosciutto bruschetta has asparagus on it...and not just a little! I would've shied away from that if I would've known (personal preference)...but it was easy to take off and the bruschetta was delicious! We been wanting to try this place for quite some time now. We went on a Monday night and it was pretty busy. The hostess was prompt and friendly. We were told the wait was 30 minutes but saw two seats at the bar. Jeff and Jim waited on us. they were great, Funny and gave tasty suggestions for appetizer, dinner , drinks and dessert. This was our third visit to North and by far the least enjoyable of our experiences from a food and environment perspective. Positive: We were able to make a reservation for 7 on a Thursday night for our sons 18th birthday. Our server was very attentive and visited the table often. The short rib pasta was good, but not something I would brag about. Negative: We ordered three appetizers. Two truffle bread and one toasted bread. The first two were ordered together and we added a second truffle bread. They all came out separately and two of them before we even received a single drink order. My husband ordered two old fashions and they were both completely different in taste. The second one was also missing the cherry. The food took a very long time to come out. We had a salad, one pasta, kids pizza and three Pig pizzas. Three that ordered the Pig pizza and all stated the flavor was lacking. They were all very blackened on the crust which did not add to the lack of flavor. One of the pizzas had so much sauce it was almost not editable. It was also extremely hard to hear each other as the music was so loud and we literally had to yell up and down the table. For a $250 meal it was absolutely not worth that. They said the available seating was at "communal tables" meaning it was a larger table that we may share with others. This was fine with us and we ended up being on our own anyway. Our server was Brandon and he was immediately one of the best servers I've had. He welcomed us warmly and spent the time getting to know us enough to make real recommendations. I had several questions about a couple food options, and he demonstrated intimate knowledge about the options. My party made a reservation for 10:30 a.m., and the good folks at North Italia were kind to bump us up to 11 when we realized we'd be late. This is the best time to go, in my opinion, as 12 onward gets jam-packed. I had just finished a long shift in Phoenix and had a ferocious appetite, so my buddy and I ordered the grilled beef tenderloin. This champion of a brunch item includes potato hash and sunny-side-up eggs. Our wives got the pollo frito and breakfast carbonara pasta, both of which looked excellent (just not as excellent as our steaks!). The menu has calorie counters, which I appreciate North Italia for adding. We need macros, too, when you've got a moment! I was skeptical that my tenderloin meal had some 1300+ calories, but when I got home, it seemed apparent. I didn't have a damn thing to eat for the rest of the day! I had questions about the grapefruit martini. I simply asked if the martini was strong and the waitress had a complete attitude and her exact response was " it's a martini". ( like I asked a stupid question and obviously it's strong) I've had plenty of martinis that are NOT strong, so it was a simple question. The rest of the evening was the same way, she was not personable or sociable and had an attitude. If you're having a bad day don't take it out on your customers. Honestly, the service here was not good. We had a reservation for 5:45 and were not seated for a good 15 minutes past our reservation time. We ordered the burrata, which was tasty, but it doesn't come with any bread or anything to eat it on. We asked for bread and then it took a really long time to get it, so we just kind of sat with our burrata in front of us for a while waiting for it. We mentioned it and one of us was like wtf and another waiter overheard us and came up and rather than addressing our long wait he started making fun of us for being annoyed. He laughed super hard right into my food, and after the two years of Covid I'm super aware of respiratory droplets whether you're sick or not and it just grossed me out for the rest of the meal. I ate it because I convinced myself it would be fine but now regret it because I've been Covid panicky all day while staying at my elderly parents. The food was good, but not good enough to make up for the stress I'm now feeling, the slow times, and the waiter making fun of us for talking to each other about the slow wait.
