We had originally decided on Cotton Patch but waiting list was long. Saw the North Rig Grill next door so went there. Upon entering notice a stuffed leopard on a tree limb. I almost walked out but was with a friend so went ahead and stayed. The owner of this place must be a Big Game Trophy Hunter. I did not enjoy my meal because I was so upset that the leopard had been killed to entertain someones sick desire to have a trophy. There were a lot more trophy's in other areas of the place. I will never go here again. Also, The waitress was not wearing a mask. I can't tell you how the food was because the site of that leopard left a bad taste in my mouth. We had high hopes for North Rig Grill. There on Labor Day 2017 on our way home from a trip to Branson. On Labor Day your choices in Denison are few. The decore of the restaurant is odd, is it an oil well theme or African Safari theme? It seems as though a Retired Texas Oil Man who likes to hunt decided on a whim to open a restaurant and decorated with leftovers from his Trophy room and a few oil and gas murals and equipment implements. All decorating fopah's aside the food is neither on point or well prepared. I was exited to see a flat iron steak on the Menu, as was my wife, along with an option to "blacken it" The order? Mine was a Blackened Flatiron steak with a side of Onion rings and green beans, my wife's order was a flat iron topped with sautéed Mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes, after a long drive from Branson we were hungry and ready for a good Texas Flatiron steak. What arrived was not good at all, our waitress was cheerful and well intentioned, but the kitchen staff needs guidance.. first of all, it was Not a Flatiron it was a sirloin. A Flatiron has a consistent grain and from the shoulder, this was definitely a square cut of sirloin, meant to disguise the cut. Blackening a steak or cut of fish is an art. To Blacken correctly you usually drench the surface of both sides of the cut of meat in butter, liberally coat with blackened spice blend (a blend of cayenne, black and white pepper and onion, salt and paprika) then heat an iron skillet with a thin layer of oil to smoking heat 500-600 degrees, at which time the meat is sizzled on each side in order to form a nice blackened spicy yet un-burned crust leaving the inner meat at a nice medium rare to medium temp. My suggestion to the chefs at North Rig, "take your job seriously and watch a few YouTube videos on how to blacken a steak". You obviously have no idea what you are doing in the kitchen. My steak was grilled not blackened and in like manner my wife's Flatiron steak that was supposed to be smothered in mushrooms was served bare with a small bowl of unseasoned partially sautéed mushrooms on the side. Again FAIL! Her Garlic Mashed potatoes were Luke warm and unseasoned, my green beans were Frozen from a bag with what looks like the telltale green food coloring of green giant green beans in a bag, utter fail. If I wanted a TV dinner I would buy a Swanson and take it to a hotel room because that is basically what they serve, frozen food improperly cooked. So sad. read more

The food was amazing! I ordered the butterflied chicken with squash medley and broccoli while my husband ordered the ribeye with green beans and black-eyed peas and 2 bacon wrapped shrimp. My wife and I had dinner here for our first time let me first say the rib eye steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. For a steak house I was confused about the decor there were Tvs everywhere so it kinda looked like a poorly decorated sports bar. Our waiter was very nice and took good care of us but he did fail at one major problem my wife's dinner order was very bad and she could not eat it. She ordered the country fried steak and I tasted it and it had no flavor and was tough tasted as if it was frozen. I mentioned it three times to our waiter and he did nothing about it. He did not mention it to the manager did not offer to bring something else so in my opinion that was a big fail. Overall the restaurant wasn't that bad but they could improve on training and it would of been nice if the manager came out to the tables and spoke to the guest. After we paid our check that was it no one said anything more to us the hostes was absent and no one asked us how we liked it even since I expressed it was our first time here. Unfortunately, we brought our family of 12 on Sunday and the service was very slow. In fact, the two family members that ordered the catfish were brought two pieces and then it took another 20 minutes before they brought out two little more pieces. The waitress wasn't new and it wasn't crowded. By the time our grandson got his side of Parmesan, his pasta was cold. Even the tea orders were messed up along with waters. (It was the first in a long long time) when we discovered the first of what I hope is not a trend the first restaurant daring enough to throw out the spice cabinet. I mean there was no Garlic in the Garlic mashed potatoes!!! The salsa tasted like salsa made by a person without taste buds. Our steaks were nice cuts grilled to perfection but minus any flavor it's like they washed it after grilling the meat. In Twelve years of marriage I have never seen my wife not finish her steak. Let me tell you the dogs are going to be very happy. I think the Mac n cheese was made using mop water. Now for the good news they have proven the adage that you can wrap anything in bacon and it's magically delicious since the shrimp went down well. Great food experience! I sat in the bar, staff were slow at first but once they accepted my existence all went smoothly and I found a super nice bar staff. Last night we were seated our waitress Jessica was great. Many empty tables so why it took the kitchen over a hour to get our food out I don't know. We watched Jessica ask for our food over and over. I have no issue with the service here, it is actually very good. Great atmosphere. The food however had a couple of issues. I got the Fish Tacos for lunch.
