Yesterday I had my hair cut here. I explained to the barber that I wanted my hair long in the back and the sides long enough to brush backwards. He shook his head that he understood then he proceeded to give me the haircut that he wanted to...short everywhere and sticking out like a porcupine on the sides. For this I spent $50 including the tip... Now I have to wear a stocking cap for the next 6 months to cover my head! read more

UPDATE: After our one terrible experience, the manager reached out and wanted to make things right. The owner, Freddy, offered to fix my son's hair. So we went back with a hint of trepidation, but everyone was so kind. Freddy took the time to talk to my son, he looked at the picture and asked questions to make sure everyone was on the same page. He did the best he could to clean up the cut, and my son left with a genuine smile. Luckily, hair grows quickly. The gist of my original review was that my son asked for something very specific (and attainable for his hair length and texture) and left with the worst haircut he's ever had in his life. The barber was slow, and not only was it not what he wanted, it wasn't even a good cut. It was choppy in all the wrong places. HOWEVER, all of our other visits have been perfectly fine. We were just unlucky that day, I guess. I really appreciate how the management went above and beyond to try to make up for the bad experience. read more

Freddy is awesome!! I was in the Chicago area recently and my son needed a haircut. I heard Freddy was the guy to see so we headed over for a cut. He was amazing and took his time to cut my son's hair to his request. Everyone we interacted with at the barber shop were professional and friendly. As someone whose lived all across the country, I'll admit that the northshore isn't the easiest place to find a decent place for a fade. This place is perfectly fine if you're in need of a haircut and looking for a clean shop with nice barbers. The quality of the haircut, however, leaves a lot to be desired. It's a step up from a Super Cuts but not by much. I've tried two of their locations in the northshore and I've had a similar experiences at both. Don't attempt to make an appointment and have it be even remotely correct. Everything is paper and pencil, 50% of my appointments were at the wrong time, 20 minutes delayed, or otherwise messed up. Go elsewhere. read more

Mike K, you are my hero! My hubby was in need of a shorter cut, and Freddie (Freddy?) came to the rescue. My hubby has a stylist he loves and has been going to for years, but she has an injury and is taking a break from cutting at the moment. My hubby recently had a longer cut (that looked great), but he decided he wanted to go shorter, and he was in a bit of a time crunch. Mike K's review came up, and as a result we made an appointment. My hubby looks fantastic! This Barber Shop is a breathe of fresh air for the community. We had a 5pm appointment, and during the time we were there, there was a future walk-in who popped in to see what was up, another walk-in came and waited while my hubby was getting cut, and another guy had an appointment. Everyone loves Freddie! My hubby was nervous to try a new style, but I dragged him in there like a child and made sure he got in that chair. Freddie got right to work, after listening to the kind of cut my hubby was after. The transformation is cool and business all at the same time. The shop is warm and inviting, the music was calming (so calm the guy waiting next to me fell asleep and was snoring), and the vibe was hip and confident. Very reasonable. $25 for a cut ($20 for seniors). Lots of other services. Take Note: Word has it that hip kiddos are getting their cuts at North Shore Barber Shop. read more

From the lighting to the refreshments. Besides how amazing the place looks. The barbers are the best! I have never had such a good haircut. Every time I go it's on point! I Have been going to Freddy for about almost 3 years now. He and his Staff are great Barbers. The places are clean and nice. I now go to his Northbrook location and I like it. It is in a shopping center with a great restaurant. This new Barber in Freddy's shop is named Sam and he is an excellent barber just as all of Freddy's Barbers are. You can go to any of his shops and get a great Haircut and style. Try out the new shop in Northbrook and ask for Sam. You will get a great hair cut or style. It is great to have shops like these for great haircuts. I am including my previous review as well. I have used the same barber since 1987 but he retired this year. I found Freddy through Yelp. He a true barber and a great master of his craft. He actually cuts my hair better than my old barber at the end of his career. I was worried that I could not find a new barber as good as my old one. They use Jack Daniels looking squirt bottles, and the chairs are very comfortable and it looks like a barber shop should. There is only on street parking but on Wed afternoon I did not have a problem. For me Freddy gives you what you want quite well. I asked for an Old Time business haircut and it was absolutely perfect. For a great haircut and a chance to talk to a very nice guy go see Freddy. To borrow from other reviews: Go try it out for yourself and have one of the best haircuts you will ever have. Freddy, the Barber there, is absolutely amazing. Was happy to see a local barber shop just opened up. Last time I looked for one was in the spring and did not realize that this new location had opened since then. The service was very good. High quality cut and done in a timely manner. Ambiance is great - very manly. Coffee available. Some salon products. Friendly staff too. I called ahead but I'm not sure it would have bumped me ahead of those waiting if it was busier. The wait was about five minutes around noon on a Saturday. Will be returning. read more

Moved to the North Shore about 7 months ago and haven't had success in finding a stylist I trust. So gave North Shore Barber Shop a try. WOW! First of all, the atmosphere is super cool. The staff is also very friendly. Only waited a few minutes before I sat in the chair. Ali was my barber. Hands down the best haircut I've ever had. I came in asking for the guy to clean up the back of my hair, and trim the rest, and bro straight up gave me a young sheldon cut. I don't even know how that happened. I gave him directions and he couldn't even follow them. The reason why I'm giving this 2 stars is because when I have a barber that listens to me, the cut is good, the vibe and quailty is also good. Been coming here for several years. Only complaint is that I've sometimes made a reservation and shown up to no reservation on the books. It's happened when booked by phone and also online. Also can sometimes be a 10-15 min wait past appointment time since they're often busy with walk-ins. Most of the barbers are very good though! read more
