Not sure what the hype is all about... Disclaimer: I'm not a huge Churro fan. Call me a Churro snob if you will...they have to be amazing for me to endorse...like in Mexico. On the rare occasion I taste or try Churro's on the mainland; I found them far too sweet, simply loaded with cinnamon or sugar and without having a good texture...either too hard, overly oily or too spongy. Yes...I tried the fabled Dysneyland Churro's before...instant diabetes on a stick. Never saw the appeal. The sugar: ~ Lychee - 3/5 A decent hint of Lychee flavor, not overly amazing or incredible. Texture is also OK. ~ Mango - 2/5 Not sure why this was colored pink. Not much of a Mango flavor to it...In fact if we were blindfolded or or presented this without any information; we wouldn't be able to tell you what we ate.. Wishing these guys the best...

    Lobster corn dog

This is NOT a review from a tourist. No added stars for being high on Hawaii. A lobster corn dog. Crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, very sweet, corn meal coating surrounds bits of real lobster on a stick. The "dog" is dressed with the typical "dragon sauce" and dusted with togarashi. A great snack if the hangry pains hit but at $15, expensive. Very friendly service. In the COVID era, credit cards preferred. A novelty at best but worthy of a try none the less.

The shrimp plate was yummy! It had just the right amount of garlic, butter and spice, but definitely not spicy. As for the lobster dawg, the batter was tasty, topped with a nice aioli, though I just wished it had more lobster inside for what it's worth. As for those churros, they were nice and crunchy, with that lychee sauce and it looked like li hing mui, that gave it a different flavor. As for the plantation iced tea, it was on the watery side; I would've wanted more tea and more pineapple flavor in it. To order and pay (even for the plantation iced tea and churros) go to the main stand where the shrimp and main entrees are sold. If you get churros or iced tea they will give you a ticket, that you need to walk to the churro and drink stand to give. They then make your products accordingly and call you at either side when your orders are ready. Parking available on the road near Giovanni's or the Kahuku Sugar Mill, just avoid the potholes and puddles!

$12.42 for fried lobster dog. The corn dog with the lobster wasn't bad, not a ton of lobster, mostly corn meal. Was it worth $12.42, probably not. We did get to try the strawberry churro bite, it was fine as well. Quick service.

My friend saw an amazing lobster option... in the form of a corn dog. We just had to check it out! It's located in the "middle" where cars can cut through one part to the other side of the Kahuku food truck central. It's closer to Giovanni's. There are many random spots to park at or the invisible stalls that won't ever be a problem. We got the lobster dog and their take of a Hawaiian churro (mango and lychee). I'll start with the churros. The churros were an interesting color... pink and green for mango and lychee?? Confused but interesting. I tried the pink one, and I couldn't distinguish the flavor at all. It tasted like a regular churro. Then I tried the green one and still couldn't distinguish the flavor. My friend thought the the pink one was lychee... but we don't really know. Definitely not worth $10. The lobster dog looked good! It was drizzled with a kind of mayo and furikake. I took a bite of the dog and the first thing that came to mind was the texture of the breading. It wasn't smooth and really crummy similar to a regular corn dog breading. Totally did not expect that, tbh. The lobster was nicely minced and packed into the cornbread. The mayo gave a lot of flavor to the snack! I thought this place was okay. It's an interesting experience especially with the new lobster roll hype. Wouldn't go out of my way for it though.

This place ended up on our radar thanks to the folks at 22Kailua! It's situated amongst a handful of fast casual spots on North Shore. Lines weren't too long when we were there in September 2021. Not sure we'd take a trip out to North Shore just for this, but it's a fun option if you're already in the area. * Kahuku waffle dog: Steven preferred this one. I just liked the lilikoi honey mustard--certainly not something I've had before. * Lobster dog: I liked the consistency! It reminded me of a crab cake. Steven said he would've liked it more if the dog were marinated.

Ordered garlic shrimp, lobster dog, and the seafood boil. The service was quick and the order came out quickly. Had a seat in their nice outdoor seating area right off to the side. Not crowded or busy so it was nice! Now for the food! Plates were beautiful but for me the garlic shrimp lacked depth. The shells on the shrimp were very soft which means either they've been sitting too long or not fresh. It needed something. Chunks of garlic would be excellent. The boil same thing. It had sausage, corn, potato and clams. The lobster dog? It was like a sweetened cornbread with pieces of lobster. It was slightly sweet and crunchy on the outside. It would not be something I would order again. I'll save my drive and my $$$ for food worth remembering.

How can you not try a Lobster Dog?? It was delicious! The owners are super cool too. Not many places you can roll up and hear country music blasting. Awesome vibe and you get a drink and a bag of chips with the meal. Score - parking: plenty of parking - cost: $13 - $18 a person - menu: lobster dog and 4 or 5 other meals - perk: seating and shade - dessert option: Hawaiian Churro right next door

I had high expectations of this food stand because of the reviews and videos i've seen on social media and who wouldn't want to try a lobster corn dog?! What I saw on Instagram was a whole lobster tail coated in a cornmeal batter with spices and a mayo drizzle. Instead, what I received was an overly fried and thick corndog with a small amount of lobster paste in the middle. This was definitely not worth $14. I even went back on their social media to look at what they posted and it is not the same product. I was so excited to try this and support a local business but I think they are targeting tourists unfortunately.. I am assuming they were unable to get a supply of lobster tails to offer what they normally sell, but if this is the case then don't make a substandard version and sell it for the same price.

I love this spot. Great service even better food. I had the Mahi Mahi poke, delicious, fresh, yummy. The pineapple ice tea was quite refreshing. I will definitely come back.

Brah I stay going to shrimp shack but no more. These shrimps are so much bigger and they are easy to peel. Can get a pineapple smoothie out of the pineapple next door and churros. Bug gags is so ono. No more shrimp shack only going here for now on.

Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

Upon a quick search, some people said they prefer this spot over another popular shrimp truck. Happy to say it was one of the highlights of our trip! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got the famous butter garlic shrimps and the salt and pepper shrimps plates.
