Never hire this towing company North Shore Towing in Evanston Illinois . My reasons are these; today Tuesday 7 2017 I left my semi truck parked in an empty parking lot because I was having issues with it. I left for a few hours while I got help. There was no sign, no anything in regards to not parking during the day. When we came back with the part. The truck was not attached to the towing truck, so I went ahead and got in it. While I was in it, they lifted and hooked the truck to the tow truck. These guys could have not taken my truck because at the moment we got there they were not hooked to it. Then these guys were pushing my father. This is considered harassment. So we decided to record them. If we hadn't recorded these guys wouldn't have calmed down against us. It's sad because my fathers life and mine were in danger. These guys are animals. We called the cops and they arrived we try explaining them about the issue of the pushing, the harassing towards my dad and they didn't care. The cops told me there was nothing to do here if my truck was able to move to go ahead and if my truck wasn't able to move then the North shore towing will take my truck. I have my own business and I wouldn't like my employees to act this way towards humanity. How can there be discrimination against your own people? Just because we are colored people. For there information I am a US Citizen. I know my rights and I'm sharing this so it won't happen to any of you. Don't be afraid to speak up. My trusted repair shop is in Chicago near Addison and Western, they both knew of the shop and knew exactly where to go. When Alex came to help, it was about 5pm and there was no way he could get the car to the shop in Chicago before they closed, so he took it to their yard, stored it overnight, then got it to my repair shop first thing in the am. read more

It was Saturday night at 10:15. The person who answered the phone was very rude and claimed to be closing in 20min even though they're open 24hrs. When we got there, a man in a tow truck almost crashed into us--from the front. He drove straight at us as if his intention was to crash into us. My sister honked and he stopped inches in front of us. It turned out to be the same guy who answered the phone--a middle aged man with a blonde/white mustache. When we both entered the office, he seemed angry and was incredibly rude to both of us in person. What a terrible experience. read more

North Shore towing is AMAZING. This is the second time we have used them to junk our old cars. I found them several years when my 2002 impala's transmission went out. I was looking for a place to simply pick up the car free of charge. I called North Shore and they came out and got it (and gave me a check for $345). So when my 2000 Lexus recently went out I knew exactly who to call. I called them at 5:00 and the they told me they could pick it up same day, free of charge and they would give me $110. Within 3 hours the was gone and I had a check in hand. Everyone I have ever dealt with at North Shore is friendly and goes out of their way. My "go to" towing place for sure! read more

This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. This company is rude and inefficient. Try your best to go somewhere else. My first experience was when they changed our tires and changed them to flat tires which took them three hours. My second unfortunate experience was where the car got towed due to an accident. Long story short they asked for the car keys while towing (my dad calls saying we shouldn't have but we didn't know it's our first towing). Body shop goes to pick up the car and they need the car keys. The guy that towed the car took them and probably lost them. He wouldn't admit that he took them when 3 people saw him take the keys! The car is a new 2015 keyless engine to replace the key was way too much. When we asked about the key the first time around they were so rude and blamed it on us for misplacing it. read more

Pretty good experience overall. This company was used on the Chicago side of a long distance vehicle transport. Knocked off a star only because I was not given a heads up on the 1st delivery attempt and was unable to be present for delivery as I was still en route to Chicago. However, the driver who called was very nice and understanding of my situation. North shore stored my car for the night until I arrived the next day. Car arrived the next evening when I could receive it and this driver was very nice and careful with my car. They gave me the best price for my car, which including towing it in, were friendly through numerous phone calls, and were just as delightful when I went to the office to turn over the title and get my check. Yesterday, North Shore Towing agreed to call me today to tow my car. I called this morning to confirm they had me on the list and they did, indicating they'd call when they're close. I called 6 hours later and after waiting 20 minutes, they hung up. I called again and the lady from this morning indicated she remembered me--but in a rude manner. "I don't know why, but you were cancelled--I'll get you in touch with the tow driver." I was transferred before I had a chance to speak and of course, got a recording. I called back to Northshore, waited 20 minutes and they hung up. I called up again, waited 20 minutes, and once again they hung up--obviously seeing my number. I'm done with them. I understand people get busy--but to take me off a list without even informing me so I could take other steps is completely unprofessional and irresponsible given my situation!! I had to have my vehicle towed twice in a weeks time. When I called shop to find out who they work with, they told me North Shore would be my best bet so I gave them a call. The car was picked up and dropped off well cared for and without issue each time. And even though they normally would get payment from an individual that calls in a pickup as opposed to a shop calling the tow in, they arranged the payment with the shop and I only had to pay the deductible later when I picked up my vehicle. For the second tow, the truck was on the scene in less than 25 minutes! I am very happy with their service and will use them again when the need arises. read more

I am writing to commend and sing high praises of Jesse, one of your tow truck drivers at Northshore Towing, who helped me with my car this morning. Jesse arrived on time and cheerful which I found amazing considering the horribly busy week I am sure he has had with this terrible weather. Jesse was friendly and professional and could of simply towed my car out of my garage because I had given up on getting it started. Towing my car could have caused real damage to my wallet as well as to my care which was locked in park due to the complete electrical failure it was demonstrating. I had two highly qualified "experts" try to jump it the day before, both had given up saying they were certain I had shorted out the entire electrical system and blown every fuse. I told Jesse he should not even try to start my car. "It couldn't be done." Jesse smiled at me and took on the challenge, "let me just try" he begged me. Sure enough the engine was running in seconds because he know just how to ground the connections. Jesse then followed me to my auto repair shop to be sure I got there safely and then headed on his way to the rest of what I am sure was another very busy day. The seatbelt at the dealer would have cost my 20 year old son about$100. I went several times because the guys kept trying and trying to help me find the correct part. After several trips they found the needle in the haystack! The part was significantly cheaper and was even able to pay someone to put it in my car! I never expected that. I was happy to tip them and they were appreciative and genuinely seemed surprised about the tip. They were all kind,respectful and willing to help and yes it is a junk yard for parts. i would never recommend nor use this service. We called in to have our car towed on a Friday and they were supposed to arrive within 2 hours. Two hours passed and no tow truck. After the promised time had passed, I called and spoke with a woman named Sherry who was very polite. She told me they were backed up. The dealership where I wanted to have the car towed closed at 6:00 pm so I asked her if we could reschedule for the next day, Saturday. So we did. I asked if she would be in and she said 'no". I asked her if the dispatcher who would be in on Saturday was as accomodating as she was and she told me: "...it depends upon whether or not he has had his coffee..." Well I guess he had not had his coffee as this guy was a poster child for unprofessional behavior. I had an 8:00 am appointment for a flatbed. He lied and told me there was an additional charge for a flatbed and told me the driver would take whatever route the driver wanted to take. (He who pays rules.) I tried to explain to him that I had requested the driver go a specific route which would have allowed him to travel with the flatbed and would be $25.00 less than taking the expressway. Needless to say he wasn't hearing it. When I asked to speak with his supervisor, he told me that the supervisor would not be in until 8:30 or 9:00. Let's just say this person hung up on me and when my insurance company called him back as they were the ones that set up the tow, he hung up on them too. I would never use, recommend or remotely suggest that anyone use this towing company. With the exception of Sherry, they behave in the sterotypic fashion of tow truck drivers. read more

NST had some hiccups the last time I used them but after speaking with the owner about the situation over the phone today, he straightened out a few things for me. This company was called by BMW roadside assistance to tow my car to the dealer. I was told it would take approximately 90 minutes for pickup. I was told to look at the app they sent for updates. The app/link was to be texted to me. It never arrived. After I complained, they sent it. They said 90 minutes to there tow. I watch the counter oj the link and when it got down to 5 minutes, I called the driver as they suggested. Call would not go thru. I then called back BMW and they called this place and told us another 45 minutes. I was livid. BMW then called them back as I suggested I wanted to have a direct contact. The did so. This towing company then said the tow truck was on another call and was not even on the way until they finished the prior call. No time estimate. This business in not reliable. I then asked for a supervisor and he said they will so their best but no tow truck has yet been assigned. As I hit the roof, 2+ hours from the first call, the supervisor promised to send a tow truck. I would up leaving my BMW roadside and got a Uber back to my home. About an hour later, I got a phone call from the towing company that they had my car. I would highly recommend that North Shore Towing not be used. They are irresponsible, do not give accurate information, and will not treat customers properly. read more

YIKES!!! STAY CLEAR!!! THEY ARE A NO-SHOW!!! I called these guys to schedule a towing based on a dealership's recommendation. We even set up a time (3 HOURS IN ADVANCE). I raced home from work. 45 minutes after the scheduled tow time, with no truck in sight or any phone call, I called them. The lady said they were on their way, but "you know traffic" she told me. When I referenced the scheduled appointment time she suggested that if I was on such a tight schedule and couldn't wait for them I should simply leave car where it was. Unlocked, of course. Oh, and leave the key in it for them. Did I mention that I live in Chicago? I told her that it didn't make any sense to leave my car unlocked with its key in the ignition and again asked when I could expect their truck. At this point she was already shouting into the phone, telling me things like she "doesn't have ESP" and "can't explain traffic" and that regardless of our scheduled appointment she couldn't hazard a guess as to when they'd actually show up for the towing that I scheduled 3 hours in advance. By then she had become extremely belligerent, and beat me to the punch when SHE HUNG UP ON ME! (FYI I ended up using a different company later and saw the dealership full of marketing junk from North Shore towing - eg. mouse pads, pens, etc., which explains their recommendation.) read more

With record-breaking temps in Chicago on 1-6-14, I needed towing service. Not b/c my car wouldn't start but because the gear was stuck in park. But still, what a day to try to find help. When I called on Sunday night, a woman answered. Didn't catch her name but her attitude was a bit negative. I inquired if I could make an appt. for a tow truck as I had a 7am appt. at the dealer. She told me no. I asked if she had some estimate as to how long the wait would be for a tow truck in the morning and her very sarcastic response was, "If I knew that I'd be rich!" She advised me to call first thing in the morning (When you're open 24 hours, that is an interesting statement. First thing in the morning is quite different for a lot of people.) Why four stars? Complete turn-around when calling the next day at 6am. A gentleman answered (wish I knew his name.) Since dealing with the woman the day before, I had little hopes. I asked how long the wait would be for a tow. He asked what it was for and where I was going. I explained that I needed it towed to the dealer and had a 7 am appt. His response? "No problem." We'll do our best to have someone there around that time. 7:01 am and a tow truck arrives! You would think that is the end but...Luis, the tow truck driver couldn't have been kinder had he been my favorite uncle. He asked where the car was and I pointed to the city lot. He said, "I was afraid of that. I can't get in there. If I try I will get stuck in the snow bank. If you call the city and ask them to clear the snow out of the entrance/exit I will come back and be able to help you. And then he apologized as if it was his fault in the first place! When the city had plowed the street the night before they had completely blocked everyone trying to get in or out of the lot. After a phone call to the city and the plow coming to clear the way in a very timely manner - I called Luis back on his cell phone. Yes, he had asked me to call him back personally rather than North Shore since I would be placed on the waiting list again. What a gem! When I called back he said he would come back as soon as he was finished with his current call. It seems he got called to an accident scene involving a police vehicle which made him return later than expected. He continued to apologize with no need. He towed my car to the dealer and success! He also reminded me to contact my insurance company re: reimbursement fee for the towing service. What a kind, gentleman. I neglected to mention that the first time he came out and was unable to access the lot to tow my car, there was a lady with her car buried in the street. She was trying to shovel her way out. As I was walking back to my condo, I saw him helping her. Luis gives customer service as it should be. Kind, respectful and giving his all. Thank you North Shore Towing. While at least one female at your business may need some lessons on customer service, it is apparent that the male (I regret not catching his name) that answered the phone knows what it's about. As well as Luis. Those two are an absolute asset to your company. Thank you for making what could have easily been a very stressful experience into a most pleasant one. read more

I have only had one interaction with this company, and it was not with the company itself but rather with an employee who was off-duty. I think his name was Dan, but he said people call him Cezar (or Cesar?--I don't know if I spelled that right) because of his last name. This review is about him. I was grocery shopping in Lincoln Square last week, and when I got back to my car, it wouldn't start. I had had no prior indication that there was anything wrong with the vehicle. My sister lives nearby and drove over to help me attempt to jump it. We were unsuccessful. At this time, a man leaving the store came over to see if we needed assistance. We couldn't have lucked out and run into a better person in this situation. He pulled his vehicle over which was chock-full of tools, and he told us that he works for a towing company. He got to work on jumping my car, and after a few attempts, he got it going. He also diagnosed that the battery was the issue--not the starter or alternator. As if this wasn't helpful enough, he also suggested a nearby AutoZone that was open 24 hours where I could get the battery replaced right then. I was so grateful and asked him if I could give him some money to thank him for his troubles. He wouldn't accept and told me to put my money towards buying a new battery. I asked him what company he worked for so I could recommend him to friends and family in the future, and he said North Shore Towing in Evanston. I thought I'd hop on Yelp and leave a review to thank him for his assistance. When my car wouldn't start and I was stuck in a parking lot at nighttime, I was really anxious about the situation. Cezar couldn't have been nicer. He was very knowledgeable, and I sincerely appreciate his help. As I said at the top of my post, I have not formally done business with this company, but knowing that kind, skilled people like Cezar work here makes me want to give them my business in the future.
