The food here is fine. It's not spectacular, but I like it. Usually really good beers on tap and the staff are nice to you. Go for the huge painting of boobs and the douchebags who will be seated next to you. Both are great to make fun of. No, really, they enhance your experience. Basically, this place would be fantastic if there were some lights. If you want to go to a restaurant where you can't see your food a foot in front of your face, this is the place for you. North Third is just blocks from my house, I'm not sure why I don't drop by more often. Their food is good, service is efficient, and their Bloody Mary's are fantastic. I've been here for brunch on several occasions. When they are busy (prime brunch time) it can feel a little crowded and can get loud, but when they've slowed down (2pm on a Sunday) it's great! Also, for nice days there's outdoor seating and the inside the dining area has double doors that open to the outside. Very nice. I've gotten the chili and eggs, and the Korean BBQ duck fried rice. Both were very good and I would definitely order them again. The Fried rice had good flavor and texture (crispy garlic and sesame seeds and a fried egg on top). Once upon a time when my husband and I were newly dating he took me to a place where I experienced the best wings I had ever eaten. They were the type of wings you dreamed about, and every other wing I had just couldn't compare. For two years and multiple moves I continued to dream about the mythical wings but alas neither my husband nor myself could remember the name of the place we had gotten them at. Then one day I had a stroke of genius--to google I go--"breasts on wall +chicken wings+ Philadelphia" and lo and behold I found North Third (because the other very memorable thing about this place is the tatas that adorn the walls.) Since that time North Third has continued to serve up some of my favorite meals, whether it be for brunch, lunch, dinner or just some awesome beer. I also highly recommend their crispy chicken sandwich served on warm brioche with some pretty kick ass guacamole. They do lose half a star for service, it's not the best. They also lose another half star because when you order a pound of wings you can only get them in one flavor: either traditional buffalo or chile glazed. It pains me every time I have to choose. It's an okay neighborhood bar. They have a nice front bar and plenty of outdoor seating, which definitely makes this a cool summer spot. A couple friends and I came here for dinner one night and we sat inside, towards the back. The voodoo theme is interesting, and it's dark, but enough for you to see. Our waitress was OK...seemed a bit off. Not rude per say, but we could tell she didn't seem too happy that night - maybe it was just a long night. The drinks here are pretty standard, nothing special, but not in a bad way. For vegetarians, beware, the menu is limited. Minus apps and salad, there aren't any true entrees and sandwiches for dinner. I got the flatbread special and it was fine - edible, but nothing to rave about. Overall, given the lack of veggie options on the menu, I probably won't be back for dinner, but I'll definitely be back to grab a drink at the bar with friends and/or try their brunch. read more

I enjoy North Third. I tend to go when it's quieter because I'm not a fan of bridge and tunnel types. They have a great beer selection including small bottles of Chimay Blue which is one of my all time favorites. Their food is gastro-pub style, little gourmet touches that are well thought-out. Back in my veggie days they had this tofu salad with Soba noodles that rocked my socks off. Now, I am partial to their burgers. They have excellent fish options as well. Fresh tuna. Yum. Yum. The ambiance is pretty cool as well. I like the dimly lit thing they have going with lots of little mood lights. Also, when it's warm, it's very cozy to sit outside and people-watch. There is a general chilled-out vibe that I find enjoyable, particularly for their brunch (which is one of the best in the city). Their bloody mary's are bloody awesome. This is third in my series of favorite bars in Philadelphia, also another "stumble home bar." I lived on Green St, and worked in Liberties Walk, so many nights a week I would stop here on my way home for a night cap. It's not too busy during the week, late night, and I like that. I want bartenders to make money but I don't want to fight for a beer. This place has a good balance, I think. The more I think about it, the more I love North Third. They actually make their pierogies in house now, which are pretty good, but I love Syrenka's. Since moving, I'm obviously not a weekly + patron anymore, but I still find myself here sometimes when I am back in town. I can't say the same about JB's or Good Dog, so that says something, ya? Especially since I stay closer to JB's than anything else! Also, it was here that I drank a draft pint of Ommegang Obamagang. Cherry chocolate stout to go with my brunch. Came here based on the YELP reviews. Here's the rundown: 1. There is no point even coming here on Sunday's before 5pm. Bc that's when the dinner menu becomes available. 2. The place was full of nats (or however way you spell it). 3. Waitress was very short. Maybe that was because the moment she walked in she had to wait on us and was trying to eat her food at the same time. 4. The thai wings (i believe that's what they were called) were great. 5. I got the chicken sandwich, the chicken was an actual chicken breast and very flavorful. Large enough that I knew immediately I couldn't finish the other half. 6. Drinks were OK. I Love this place. The atmosphere is nice, relaxing and a good time. I found this place when my friend had his birthday there. The food can be a hit or miss sometimes but the service is amazing. Don't be afraid to say something (politely). The staff are all nice, sociable, helpful and knowledgeable. They are Dog friendly which is a big plus. I have gone there twice with my little pup and several times before I got him. *However, Make sure you order your food specifically the way you like it or a little under because they may over do it a little. North Third, positioned at 3rd and Brown in the No Libs is a great establishment in the Philadelphia food/beverage scene. The place is vibrant, fun and uniquely styled. I guess you can call what they have going on a "death" theme. I've at least always referred to it that way. All the creepy stuff on the walls/ceiling/doorways make you feel oddly comfortable. The people who run this place clearly have a sense of humor and style. The food here rocks. I've had the pleasure of trying all manner of meals here. Their brunch for instance was my first exposure to goat cheese and smoked salmon in an omelette. Needless to say I was hooked. They also make a mean bloody mary. So mean, that I had a second one just to make sure it was really that good. Per pranzo (lunch to the english speakers) I've had a chance to sample salads/burgers and wings. The burger here is definitely solid and stands up to most other gastropubs in philly. The wings came with a fair bit of spice but not enough to make it painful. Recently dinner consisted of a proscuitto stuffed pork tenderloin and a lamb masala burger. I had to give the nod to the LMB. It had a flavor unlike anything I had ever had between two slices of bread. At first bite I tasted the tenderness of the lamb burger, perfectly cooked. Next came the blast of spice. It was awesome, like a punch in the face. The roll was fresh and the lettuce and tomato wrapped the whole thing together. We came here for brunch because sometimes, the line out the door for "that other place nearby" is just too overwhelming on an empty stomach on a Saturday almost-noon. They didn't disappoint-- my boyfriend enjoyed his mimosa (though it was very tiny for the price) and his chili and cornbread thing (I forget what it was called), and I settled for the Belgian waffle with chocolate chips and whipped cream. You know, gotta start my day off right with a wholesome, balanced and nutritious meal. (Sometimes chocolate wins). I would go here again. The seating is nice and cozy, and the staff was friendly. But, it isn't the best brunch I've ever had, and I do have two places I prefer. In principle, this place is great. The menu items all sound tasty and are creative and varied with the occasional fancy unrecognizable ingredient thrown in. You know, that random thing like lovage, idiazabal, or guanciale that makes you wonder, but you're too embarrassed to ask. They do that here, but not to an annoying degree. In practice, this place is... fine. The ambiance is fine, service is fine, everything is fine. The food tastes fine and is generously portioned, but I just don't think it has that je ne sais quoi (literal translation: I just don't think it has that I don't know what. North Third always leaves a little something to be desired, especially with plenty of other gastropubs in the neighborhood. We went specifically for the wings recently since they get a good deal of hype and we hadn't been there in at least a year or two. The beer list was pretty good. The dinner menu reminds me of a style of cooking that was super popular 2+ years ago - Asian style glazed everything, lamb burgers, etc. We ordered Thai curry mussels and wings to share. The mussels were good but again, reminiscent of what has been on every bar menu for a thousand years. The wings were good, not overly sauced, the right amount of spicy but definitely not THAT different from wings at lots of other places. Service was mildly unfriendly but nothing to complain about. The real insult of the evening was that we got the check and were surprised to see that two beers, 1 order of mussels, and 1 order of wings came to $50. Seems a hair on the steep side for what amounts to finger food, and not even amazingly delicious finger food. Far from a BAD restaurant, but far from a great one also. read more

In those 15 minutes while waiting for said waiter to mosey on up to our table, I spotted the menu (white 8.5 x 11" sheet of paper!). For my veggie friend, the pickings were slim. For me, it featured the dreaded froo-froo $9 burger/salad/chicken selection. An excellent dinner. Darkly lit dining area, with Spanish and Day of the Dead looking stuff all over the walls. I had a squash and walnut soup (a special for the evening) and the salmon. Both were terrific. The soup was very well spiced and the walnuts matched with the flavor well. It had a good consistency. The salmon was cooked just to my liking (I often order salmon rare, but per their recommendation about the crispy skin, tried it medium rare), this was buttery, flaky, not over cooked or dried out. I also got a chance to taste the pulled pork sandwich and the tomato soup. The tomato soup was very good as well (and I'm not usually a big fan of tomato soup), I like the idea of using a part of a grilled cheese sandwich as a crouton. The soup was creamy, but not overly so, and well spiced. The pulled pork was okay. A messy sandwich with very sauce-y pulled pork lacking any real smoke flavor. Heavy on the barbecue sauce. I didn't particularly like the fries, I would try to substitute them for one of the other sides if I was getting a sandwich here. I am all about it - great menu for when you want a burger on the cheap or the badass chicken breast / spinach / mash potatoes with some oysters for an appetizer... it's pretty all-purpose and good. Good beers on tap and some solid mix drinks as well. One of the most reliable places for me in Philly. My beef is that, unlike other respectably hip neighborhoods, No-Libs evidently has no law that requires restaurants to have at least one or two vegan entrees; North Third doesn't seem to want to follow the rule on its own. C'mon, it's hard to coax a vegan date here when all she is getting is hummus (and some stolen fries or mash from my plate). Went here today for Brunch and it was surprisingly NOT CROWDED! (yay). My fiance got the wings and they were to.die.for. They were crispy, crunchy (isn't that the same thing) vinegary with just the right amount of spicyness. I got the chipped beef---and that was divine. . . .the stiff white bread was buttery and hard enough to withstand that creamed chipped beef sauce, and somehow it stayed pretty in step with my fried egg! My friend got the breakfast empanandas and they were DELISH. A ton of cilantro, black beans, sweet potato fillings and black been sauce sealed the deal for me. Have been a regular here for some time. My husband and I absolutely love North Third. It is a summer time staple, we walk over from Fishtown with the little one and are able to sit outside, enjoy dinner, and take a nice stroll back home. Every time I have been here lately the specials have blown me away. I recommend the the duck, any special involving duck has been delicious! The mulled wine is currently a favorite as well. With four stars and over 450 reviews on yelp, I am very surprised to have to give this place two stars. The food and service were just plain forgettable. Maybe we were there on an off night? First, the food. I had a special salad that was okay... Romaine lettuce, grapefruit, avocado, and citrus vinaigrette with some chicken on top. Actually, this was the highlight of our meals. A friend had hanger steak and asked for a side salad instead of potato. The request was granted, but the side salad was served on the same plate as the steak. As a result, it was floating in the steak sauce. In addition, they charged an extra two dollars for this. The other sad thing was the french fries. They had such great potential. Those natural, crispy french fries that definitely look homemade. You know the type, right? They were delicious, but only half of them were edible. The rest of them were overfried and as a result a stale kind of crunchy. Next, the service. Our guy was nice enough, but not at all attentive. We think he was really the bartender? He also did not mention that there were up charges for changes to entrées (for example, one of us did not want bacon on the sandwich and asked for jalapenos instead). We don't mind paying extra, but you should at least mention it will cost more. In summary, if I lived in the neighborhood, I might give it another try. But we live on the other side of the city, and I think we will pass. read more

Let me jut put it out there. This is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia - it's weird decor, great service, awesome drinks and consistently delicious food. I have been coming here semi-regularly since 2007. It is always awesome. It's a great restaurant for everything. Date night - perfect. Brunch after visiting the farmers market- awesome. Need to take your mom out to dinner and she's kind of picky - BOOM! you found your place. The service is always on point and the servers are all very cool and knowledgeable. The walls have the strangest array of christmas lights, weird masks, pictures, and other random things. I still don't think I have found all the hidden decor oddities here! It's actually kind of a fun game because every time I go, I find another item that I have never seen before. I have tried almost everything on the menu. The absolutely only thing I would recommend switching out is the bread on the chicken sandwich. It's boring and kind of hard to eat the sandwich. Other than that I can say the wings, ribs, pulled pork, fries, tomato soup, bibb salad and burger are all really great! Oh and I forgot to mention that you should check out the specials also. The one dish that I force myself to order every time I go there are the spring rolls. I just love the sauce, slaw and rolls. I mop them up. In all seriousness, you need to be eating here. read more

This place is a go-to spot for brunch and wings. For drinking though, I find the bar seating and standing areas are too scarce, so better to go if you want to sit down and eat. Craft beer selection always offers something worth trying. Food wise, these are the best wings in northern liberties. Big, meaty, and crispy, tossed in a sauce with a zing that can't be beat. I'm a wing fanatic, so make no mistake: order these wings! I often like to go here for brunch when the other normal neighborhood brunch spots have a wait. North third rarely has a wait for brunch and their food and pricing are competitive with anything else in the area. They have a specials menu that's updated regularly and usually has something worth trying. I'd recommend the bagel platter, chicken and waffles, and their various scrambles. Couldn't wait to get here after a co-worker recommended their food as being the best in Philadelphia. My fiancé and I came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, the host was extremely nice and let us know there would be about a 20 minute wait but we could wait at the bar. We went to the bar and waited for about 10-15 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us and told us he would be right over...five minutes later he walked right past us to a group of guys that walked in way after we did. This was our first time at North 3rd after looking at menu after menu in the car. Parking was easy on a Sunday evening which is a plus. Our wait staff Melissa and the gentlemen who assisted her were great. Another plus. They played music, but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. The décor was artsy with mixed themes. I particularly liked the sparkly eagle that was mounted on the ceiling above us. North 3rd is very quaint and comfortable. I started off with a bloody mary which was tastey and nicely garnished. We then had the Home Made Potato-Cheddar Pierogies with sour cream. Next time I would probably add the bacon that they offer. On their additional menu for the day, we ordered the Chile Glazed Ribs, Purple Cabbage Slaw, Peanuts and Cilantro. They had a bite to them but were delicious. The menu had things I could choose from for my entrée but I chose off of the daily additional menu. I had never had Kobe beef before so I opted for the Kobe Burger, Cooper Sharpe, Pepperoncini, Bacon, Lettuce, Special Sauce on a Brioche Bun. I tried some of the burger without all of the extras and it was really tastey. All of the toppings were yummy on it too! The coffee was made fresh and had a good taste and we opted for the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert (with 4 spoons). That and the coffee was a very nice ending to our meal. Would I go there again? Yes, definitely. I only wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could frequent North 3rd more often. Nice job! read more

These are what's recommended from me... Vegetarian Tomato Soup Grilled Cheese Crouton Steamed Mussels in White Wine and Garlic Tuna Burger Steak on their special menu I had their apple crisp desserts and it is worth mentioning not to get it. This place consistently delivers the goods. Went for wings and blood orange margaritas and thoroughly enjoyed them. Came the next time and saw Scallops and mushroom risotto as a special. Since the word "risotto" on a menu is automatically followed by me pointing at it and looking at the server with hungry/lustful eyes (sucks when its a dude, but I'm sure they're used to it here) I got that. When I say "be still my heart" and I'm not be dramatic, it was just that good! They give you two crispy pieces of chicken, a huge delicious fluffy waffle, roasted potatoes and wait for it, an egg, any way you like it. I went with the chef's choice which is sunny side up!!! I could end it here, but I'd be neglecting the fabulous mango mimosasss ( the S's are how many I had). If you're in Northern Liberties, you need to drop in. Oh and not just for brunch, I'm also obsessed with their mussels and their Thai chili chicken wings, that I've ever enjoyed during their awesome happy hour. We came here for brunch on Sunday morning and I was surprised at how big this place is. The hostess escorted us to a table in the back and even though the sun was shining for the hour that we were there I was still straining to see the menu, my food and my date. I can't really imagine the lighting situation at dinner/drinks but I probably wouldn't be too thrilled. We easily ordered because we almost always get the same thing everywhere and the food came out fairly quick (which today was a plus because we were starving, normally I'm wary of food coming out too fast, but whatevs). My english muffins were burnt to a crrrrrrisp and totally unacceptable. Without even trying them I asked the waitress if it wasn't too much trouble to get not-burned muffins and she apologetically took it back. She came back literally 2 minutes later and was really nice about it. I also hate sending food back because let's be real here, who knows what happens in the kitchen. Anyway, we ate and it was pleasant. Nothing to rave about - hence the 3 stars. The decorations were all over the place - scary, fun, weird, cool.
