Great little restaurant in northern libs. It's a mix of good bar food fused with savory deliciousness. The atmosphere is laid back but with hilarious artwork. We sat in front of a picture of breasts, which we thought was hilarious. For food we tried the truffle cauliflower and fries to start out, both were delicious. We also tried the wings which were pretty okay (I'm very particular though). We got the special house sauce which was a pretty good buffalo sauce, but our friends got the Asian sauce and loved it. I used to love north third. I mean love, I even continued coming here after the server LOST my debit card while paying my check. I was here a week or so ago and found the service and food to be meh. The servers have always been slightly surly, but that has increased. Our food was meh, the fish tacos were absolutely terrible. Pretty much fried fish stick with some lettuce on a tortilla. The veggie spring rolls tasted different then they had before, & their calimari which I had previously raved about was very fishy tasting and rubbery, the red sauce to dip was equivalent to ketchup. read more

While kicking around the Northern Liberties on Saturday, we stopped at North 3rd just before 5pm for a late lunch / early dinner. The kitchen closed at 3 and did not open back up until 5 but, that was fine because by the time we ordered our drinks, the kitchen was open. I ordered a beer, and my girlfriend ordered the blood orange margarita, which was pretty good, it tasted like grapefruit juice cocktail (which I like). For appetizers we order a pound of wings (a suggestion from a friend) and the hummus platter. The wings were awesome, and a pound ended up being about 10 wings, which was more than i thought it would be. The hummus platter came with hummus, a feta amd cucumber salad, and warm pitas, it was pretty banging too. If I would have known how big the apps were, I would have just split a sandwich, or just skipped the sandwich all together. But, before the apps came out we ordered the tuna sandwich (which we didn't even eat till later that night because we were both stuffed). We also split the lamb burger, which was cooked medium, and it was amazing. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had, and that is saying a lot because I am a big time carnivore. The feta cheese, lettuce and tomatoes complimented the lamb perfectly (sadly this burger was on their specials menu). N 3rd has a bar area, with tables, and an attached dining area with some larger tables and booths. They also have some outdoor seating along the sidewalk for tables of 2-4. I am a big fan of the atmosphere and food at North 3rd, and will be back there to eat and drink again. So I really wanted to give North Third 5 stars. I walked in and just fell in love. The decor is amazing; cozy and eclectic. Our waitress was adorable; she was attentive, smiley, and did a great job. My burger was pretty close to amazing, and my mulled wine was perfect on a chilly winter night. The prices were truly reasonable. On the downside, the fries were a little limp and underwhelming, and my friend's mussels really did smell like a barnyard. They tasted ok, but smelling like barn (and I've spent enough time on farms to know what it smells like) is not necessarily how you'd like your food to smell. read more

A friend and I were in the mood for a low key outdoor brunch (with maybe a side of Bloody Mary) and a change of scenery and this place fit the bill on paper. Walked up to find so much more.... Seated in a perfect outdoor table in just minutes on a sunny 75 degree Sunday at 11 AM isn't an easy task but they made it happen. They also had one of the best Bloody Mary's I have had in the city. Their brunch has something for everyone.... I had the bagel and lox platter which I had been dreaming about all morning, and my friend the Monte Cristo (super tasty). If it hadn't been for a on-coming medical freight train about to hit my friend, we would have been at the bar all afternoon. I love this place. As a northern liberties resident you are surrounded by places to eat and fabulous brunch. This has become my friends go to location. Its delicious! Breakfast burrito & biscuit and gravy are easily the favorites among my friends, although I never heard anyone complain about anything they've gotten there. The atmosphere is very different from what you would expect at a typical bar, but I like it. They don't really have TVs to watch any games on, which is a shame cause they have great wings, but its really not that type of bar. The service there has always been great and the waitresses and bartenders actually act like people instead of just someone who comes and takes your order and leaves. I'm originally from South Jersey and lived in philly for about 5 months now, the one thing I miss most is a quality plate of wings and this is the only place that even comes close. Great corner bar that serves as both a divey bar complete with a kiss pinball machine as well as a nice dimly lit restaurant in the back to take a date. This is my local hot spot! The staff is awesome and I am a frequent patron, especially in the summer when I can get a cold beer and bowl of water for my dog. This is where gastropub meets gourmet. One of my favorites is the fresh summer made gazpacho with a spoonful of guacamole! On a typical night my favorites (not all at once!) include the hummus plate, pierogies or if I am really hungry, I LOVE the tuna steak sandwich special. The tables outside, we re taken, one was wobbly, so after some people left , we took one outside. The coffee was good, but service could be lot better. The waitress would disappear for time, wander if she went some where else to eat. But the dish, french toast was good, not best, but I am looking for them to kick it up notch, make it different .There's was eatable, good, but nothing great. I am so very disappointed, so very disappointed. N. 3rd since it's opening had initially thrilled me and I was generally satisfied with the meal that I would have there. I remember when they first opened Mark and his brother the owners were telling me how they changed their menu often and were very careful with the quality of what they were serving to the public. However my recent visit had left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The corner pub/restaurant had a good crowd for a Monday night. My partner and I sat out in the patio with our dog companion. The hostess arranged for our table not long after we arrived at the restaurant and the waitress was only mildly attentive to us. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. My partner ordered the burger-rare. My sandwich looked and tasted like they simply pulled some pork off the bone and boiled it and threw it between two pieces of bread...because that ladies and gentlemen was all it was. BOILED MEAT! Between two soggy pieces of bread. There was no seasoning what so ever, no sauce, no...salt...onions... Like JESUS FREAKIN CHRIST! Did you cook this in anything besides water? I was astounded...flabbergasted...it was an affront to the meat. It was simply wrong on every level. Perhaps they are too busy with their new endeavor Silk City. But they really have to return some attention to the kitchen, it saddens me...that sandwich down right saddens me. I have nothing negative to say about this place. Been here a few times over the years, most recently for a dinner out with some guys after a Phis game/bachelor party. This place is a pleasant experience through and through. Great wings (don't leave without ordering the Thai wings at least), great entrees (fish and chips or burger), and a nice drink menu. Service is great. Our hostess and waiter took care of us immediately and provided attentiveness throughout the evening. The atmosphere is relaxing and Bohemian, with great art adorning the walls. The burger at North Third is the best that I have ever had! (And I am not shy about ordering a burger when I am out...) I am unsure what they do to this burger that makes it so delicious, but it is amazing. While the burger could stand alone, the delicious fries with the chili mayo is really the icing on the cake. I also appreciate that I am able to find a delicious beer in their selection to complement my burger. Hadn't been to North Third in a long time. Went back for dinner and drinks this past Friday. The place was PACKED and it took us 20 minutes or so to even get a table for two. We ordered the vegetarian rolls as an appetizer, they were okay but nothing mind blowing. I ordered a special cobb salad with fried chicken in it. At $13 the serving size was small and all I could taste was voluminous amounts of onions and blue cheese. Almost so overpowering that it was hard to eat. We split the perogies and a beet salad because that's all there was; it was overpriced and not filling. I went home and ordered take out. So maybe it's great for meat eaters, but veggies stay away! It was bugging me so i asked the server why this is the case (i've been here a bunch and know what to expect). she told me they were running out of food . . . . . huh? you are running out of food, so i get the scraps??? i could deal with them telling me - these are the servings - sorry. do you want to order another meal? but i can't deal with them telling me that they ran out of food - so they gave me the scraps. First let me say I have been a big fan of this restaurant. But last Mon. Pre Joe Bonamassa my wife & I went for dinner. Appetizers were tasty, wine ok & beer good. I had pulled pork sandwich served with fried onion rings. My wife fish & chips. My sandwich tasty but the onion rings & I love fried onion rings were so greasy I could not eat them. My wife's French fries ok, side salad served with no dressing but the fish was so greasy when she cut into it oil shot out. She took off breaking & ate fish which was not terrible. My hope is this was an aberration as I still like this place. read more

Had dinner at North Third on Saturday. Pretty extensive menu of sides & apps but was pretty disappointed with the vegetarian entree options. By default I had the flatbread pizza appetizer for my entree and it was quite delish. Split some splendid chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Drink menu was excellent and was impressed by the service. Great meal, but probably won't be back for dinner due to the lack of vegetarian entrees. There are much more accommodating restaurants of the same caliber in that neighborhood. I've heard their brunch is fantastic so hopefully I can give that a whirl sometime....Leaving the door open for an improved rating as 3 seems a little low perhaps. read more
