I don't normally leave reviews, but this experience left a bad enough impression that I felt it was worth sharing. I recently visited North Hills Cinema 6 in Spearfish and was surprised to be told I couldn't bring in my own sealed bottle of water. While I understand theaters often have policies about outside food and drinks, what was disappointing--and frankly, unreasonable--was that no alternative was offered. I asked politely if I could simply have a cup or even a small glass of water from the concession stand. I was flatly told no. The manager on duty was not only unhelpful, but also dismissive and rude when I tried to explain that I have a medical need to stay hydrated and didn't want sugary or overpriced drinks. It wasn't about breaking a rule--it was about trying to be honest and ask for a basic courtesy. Sadly, the takeaway here is that honesty isn't rewarded, and customer service is lacking. Next time, I won't ask--I'll just discreetly bring my own water like so many others clearly do. It's a shame when a business prioritizes rigid policy over basic human decency. I hope management reconsiders how they handle situations like this in the future. A little empathy goes a long way. read more

We love our local theater. We were so happy to go to the theater again post-COVID. We love the deals they offer for popcorn buckets and cups each year. The best part of this theater is the luxury theater. I have become a "luxury snob" and won't watch a movie unless I can sit in those reclining seats. I especially love how they do community outreach and partner with local businesses for good causes. Small town theater makes a big time impact in our community! read more

Yes the facility is showing it's age, but we LOVE having a home town theater where we can get to know the staff and we are treated like friends and neighbors! The staff is awesome and we know we will be welcomed with a smile and receive great service! read more

I have been coming to this theater my whole life and have seen a continuous lack of customer service. The workers are never too friendly and can come off quite rude at times. This is consistent every time I'm here. There is definitely a way to enforce rules and policies without being rude. Hope to see improvements in the future. read more

This is the worst theatre in 5 states cheap owner lousy service reused popcorn. Pitiful.

Saturday matinee wasn't too crowded and the staff was friendly and helpful except for one guy who seemed to be doing his best to ignore the guests. Hey dude, the guests give you your pay! The theater was clean and comfortable. The video and sound systems were good. The popcorn was some of the worst I have ever had, it wasn't fresh and during the time that I was in the lobby (over an hour) they didn't make any fresh batches. I'll travel to Rapid City next time I want to see a movie. read more

The new reclining seats in the remodeled theater are awesome! So comfortable and roomy! I also love how this theater does periodic contests to win concessions on their Facebook page. Free movie Thursdays in the fall are great too! read more

I had to comment after reading the complaints. We took 6 family members to the movie theatre ages 14 to 71. We were able to see three movies during the same hours. The theatre is very nice the staff customer service excellent and we ate yummy freshly popped popcorn. We will definitely come back and recomend our good experience to others!!! read more

Poor excuse for a theater in this day and age. 3 theaters are nice stadium seating while the other 3 are very old. The sound is horrible, the seats are uncomfortable, and it is always freezing cold. The kicker is that most new big blockbusters are shown in the old lousy theaters because they can hold more people. Don't bother to buy tickets on line early because you will still have to wait in the lines as they do not have a will call window. I cannot wait for the current owner to retire so that someone who realizes that it is important to create a positive environment for movie enthusiasts instead of driving us away to theaters over an hour away to get a decent movie experience. read more

I live in spearfish,SD I go to northern hills cinema a lot they have very nice theatres employees r very friendly. I would even pay more to go to movies here they have the new releases when they come out,cheaper theatres do not. I know this theatre charges the average prices for refreshments as others do also. Theatres need to make money, alot is from refreshment purchases. Once again I love this theatre in my hometown and will continue supporting it!! read more

I have been going to this theatre because it's local but I'm not loving it. The previous owner knew how to make and serve popcorn. They now know how to charge a high price but have no clue what makes good theatre popcorn. They used to serve it fresh from the maker and split the butter application. Now they make it up way ahead of time and dump butter only on top. If you request of them to split the application of butter, they refuse and claim their boss won't let them. No refills on their outrageously priced pop too. I can kinda understand that because you could order small and refill. Whatever. However, half of why I go to a movie is for the popcorn and this place falls flat on its face in that regard. This situation has changed me from going to a movie twice a month here to going about once every three months. Now I rent more and go to Rapid more for movies. Strange how some business owners just don't get what customers like. read more

We went to the movies here Halloween weekend. It had been since last winter that we were here. Now I remember why we stopped going. Although it is a nice theatre, clean, new--their policies are expensive and not customer friendly. We spent almost $20 for just two small sodas and a couple of popcorn. They make you pour your own soda at the soda machine, but they have just one machine for each side--one machine serving 7 flavors out of the same nozzle for four different theaters. YOu have to wait so long for all the other customers to get their drinks, while you miss the first part of the your movie. They won't let you in earlier, you have to wait in line until they let you past the barrier. So we just filled our cups partially, then went in so we wouldn't miss more. Then the popcorn was super salty, so I went out when the crowd was thin to top off my drink. They actually turn the machine OFF so you can't get any refills. Nearly $20 for two popcorns and half drinks....and they would have spent maybe 30cents for their cost of a fill up of soda? Now I remember why we stopped coming here. They wont' take credit cards or checks, only cash, and if you don't have enough, they have an ATM that charges a high access fee to get any cash out. They would not allow any refills, and their cost for this is low, but their cost because of this will be high. It will be a long, long time before me or my family returns. We will rent videos, or wait till we have a reason to go to Rapid and go to the Elks instead. They are always fair to us. read more
