Angus beef brisket was perfect Texas bbq. Juicy, great flavour, perfect flop Short rib is the best beef rib in the city. Juicy, unctuous, meaty. Amazing. Honey garlic wings had excellent smoke. Fantastic. Mac and cheese was delicious and cheesy. Best I've had in toronto. Maple smoked beans were ok. I wouldn't order again though. Poutine has a great gravy that had a nice depth of flavour. One of my favourite poutines. Tri tip had chimichurri on it which was a nice touch. Tougher of meat is not my preference but still had great flavour and smoke. Beef ribs were decent. But short rib better. Of note is that all the beef items are seasoned differently so you can order it all and have different flavours. One thing to know is the place is a bit of a dive. It's not pretty, but boy is it delicious. It does come off a little less clean than it could be. Cashier guy was friendly, but a bit slow. Not a big deal though. read more

I came here again yesterday, The sides are okay did not like the Mac and cheese main thing here is the meat. The service was good,the brisket is out of this world. Melts in your mouth good seasoning, smoked perfectly, the ribs with the bbq sauce oh my goodness probably one o the best ribs I ever tasted in my life, and the mashed potatoes was phenomenal. Really enjoyed their meat platter and chilli cheese fries. The meat platter had plenty of meat to choose from and their bbq sauce ranks up there as one of the best I've ever had, ever. The presentation of their chilli cheese fries was very underwhelming but I was pleasantly surprised by how well the cheese sauce worked. I expected more pulled brisket though. This halal BBQ restaurant definitely lives up to the Michelin guide reputation its been given. It was busy when we arrived Friday evening for dinner - you first order at the front then find a table for them to bring out your food. Definitely bring your friends, and order a family or sampler platter - I can't obviously vouch for absolutely everything on the menu, but the stuff I tried was all delicious, perfectly seasoned, and was a massive portion. I can't imagine a better first impression. Service is definitely "meh" (had to ask multiple times for water and sharing plates), but the food is undeniably delicious. We got the sampler platter 3 (serves 3 easily, four as a stretch), and a brisket sandwich to share amongst myself, missus, my brother and mother. The sampler platter came with two sides, so we picked Mac and cheese, and the mashed potatoes. The sides were both delicious, but the main stars of the show (brisket, Korean short ribs and pork ribs) were the star attraction - the reason why folks would come from far and wide to visit this restaurant. The ambiance is very minimal - almost grungy. The one single-stall bathroom can feel like it's overheating because of a lack of a/c or ventilation in the overall restaurant. Normally in the main restaurant this would be concerning too, but given the openness to the back grill and a large fan, you don't end up getting too much of the residual heat inside - or the "BBQ smell" that you'd normally associate with BBQ places. Anyway it's along old Kingston road. There's a small parking lot that serves the whole plaza that northern smokes is located in - the lot can get quite busy if all of the businesses are open, but we arrived when there were only a handful of businesses still open on a Friday evening. read more

We had to circle around a few times before getting a spot. As I walked in, I noticed 3 empty tables but they all got reserved signs on it so I opted for takeout. We got the meat plate, the brisket plate with two sides (mac and cornbread), and a pound of the beef back ribs. It was around 1pm when I visited but they already sold out of the burnt ends and the montreal style smoked brisket. I've never had smoked meat like this before but did find the price quite high totalling around 100. Maybe it is just standard pricing. They told me that it would take about 45 minutes for my order to be ready and it took around 30 minutes before they called me. My partner and I hung around the plaza and walked across the street since we didn't want to lose our parking spot before needing to go back to pick up the food. Food thoughts: - Brisket was a bit dry and tough, not sure if we just got the drier cut or not. The barbecue sauce slathered on top made it much better - the meat plate was good to try and sample multiple items, I really liked the pulled pork!! It was juicy and flavourful. I'm always looking to try new places and I remembered my cousin telling me about Northern Smokes a few months ago so off I went. It's located in a small plaza in the Highland Creek area, near Old Kingston Rd and Military Trail. There's nothing special about its appearance, other than having almost all the window shades closed. It wasn't a very attractive look. I actually thought they were closed. The interior was just as sparse, with one wall covered in framed basketball pictures. Ordering is done at the cashier counter and they bring it to your table on paper plates, along with a roll of paper towels. I wasn't too starved so I opted for their burger (8oz) with fries and a drink for $15.00. It was a good sized burger, with decent flavour, but a tad bit overcooked for my liking. The thin fries were good. Oddly though, I don't know why it took around 30 minutes to prepare. That's a bit long for such a simple order. Their Halal menu had beef brisket, beef ribs, chicken, wings, sausages, fries, and more. Flavours included smoked, BBQ, jerk, peri peri, Korean, tandoori, and more. Loved this place ! My wife and I were in the area and had heard about Northern Smokes a few times by others. We decided to go there as we were in the mood for some bbq and smoked meat. I'm so glad we tried this restaurant. The interior is nice and spacious and the food is absolutely amazing. The flavour on the meat is just immaculate. The Northern Smokes is located in quite an unnoticeable neighbourhood, our friend saw some good reviews and brought us here. This place is obviously popular as there was a queue just when the restaurant opened at noon. As we brought our fur baby, we couldn't eat in and they set up a table under the tree for our group which was really nice. The servers were polite and friendly and made us feel welcome! We ordered a family platter with some side dishes. The portion was quite generous, the meat was nicely done, juicy, tender and delicious, it's worth the trip. This is an Uber Eats delivery review. So until I actually go there in person and dine in/take out myself, I'll leave my review at 4 stars. Honestly, Northern Smokes has been perfection for me. I maayyyyy not be the greatest person to listen to when it comes to this review, as I have only ever tried one other BBQ place. But what I can tell you, is that Northern Smokes was delicious! I had ordered the sample plater #1 from Uber Eats and it was roughly around the $80 mark if I remember, but I had also gotten an extra side, since the 2 it comes with wasn't enough for that night. Everything was excellent. The brisket had to be my favourite and it was superrrr tender and juicy. The brisket could fall apart from you just looking at it, that's how tender it was. Another favourite was the chicken, great flavour and so, so, so moist! Here's the thing that 'might' put people off from Northern Smokes, and it's how much of a 'spicy punch' the meats have. Me personally, I don't mind .... But I have met some people who find the littlest of spice inedible. I think the only thing I didn't really like too much was the coleslaw, but that's a me thing, since I tend to like my coleslaw on the sweeter side. And also the tri tip, but I'm really, really not a fan of tri tip. My husband said it was great though. I'm already planning to go in person and visit Northern Smokes because I have been dreaming of their BBQ ever since that night I had ordered in. The interior isn't anything fancy, and it's paper plates ... Perfect for bbq. Staff are super friendly and quick to help you out if it's your first time with recommendations and advice. There's also a clean washroom in the corner. It is a little chilly inside so dress warm if you're going in the colder months, and eat fast if you don't want it to get cold. But that's ok, you can order more! It's so worth it. I'm usually not keen on places that are cold, but Northern smokes is so good that I don't even care. Melt of the bone ribs, sticky short ribs, succulent brisket, the most flavour some chilli cheese fries and the tastiest apple wood brisket. Wow. Everything is incredible here. They even handcut their own fries!! And the price is insane for the quality of the food! Sandwiches for only 9 bucks?? You've got to have a bunch. I can't get over how good this place is. NS serves up some seriously good BBQ and we've sampled pretty much everything from their menu from jerk chicken, beef brisket, beef ribs and beef short ribs and you just can't go wrong with their meat. All so good and smokey, I love all the gristle and sinew on the bones. On thing I would choose for improvement is their corn bread as it's always been just ho-hum. This is a small bbq spot that likely only locals of the neighborhood know about but it was pretty full on a weekday evening. I got the jerk chicken sandwich and enjoyed it, I would recommend asking for extra mayo if you like things less dry. The fries are basically like Mcdonald's fries but better. Halal southern BBQ spot in Scarborough. They really filled a niche market because halal and BBQ is impossible to find. For NYE, we decided to order a $75 Sampler Platter #1 with comes with 3 Beef Ribs, 1/2 pound of Tri Tips, 1 pound of Brisket and two 1/4 Chicken. This also comes with fries and two sides. We decided on Jalapeno Corn Bread and Mashed Potatoes. The main issue was that we placed an order at 5:50pm and they said 30 minutes. We had to pick up something elsewhere so we ended up there at 6:50pm ready for our pickup. It wasn't ready. The place was packed (5+ people) and there was another gentleman who said "I've been waiting since 6pm for my pickup". He was rightfully frustrated. We waited another 5 minutes and paid for the meal. Next, the cashier says "let us know where your car is and we'll bring it out when it's ready in 20 minutes" uhhhh???? So it actually took 50 minutes from when it's supposed to be ready to be actually ready. I think this is absurd given that we called ahead and we were 30 minutes. We picked up our order at 7:10, so 1 hour and 20 minutes after our initial call. Ridiculous way to spend NYE. The meal itself was outstanding but man, the wait time and customer service was lacking by a lot. My favourite was the beef ribs, followed by the brisket. My husband liked the brisket. There's so much leftover that we'll have enough for the next few days for sure! COVID: it's so busy that they have a hard time to manage crowds. So I was drive in the area when I could smell BBQ. I saw the sign and accessed their web site. I went for a sampler of their fair. Brisket Mac & Cheese - the brisket pieces were plentiful but the Mac lacked taste. First off it needed seasoning. No salt nor did the cheese have any bite. 2/5 stars Coleslaw Very well done. A regular position is a shareable size for two. 4/5 stars Baked Beans Also well done. In fact I mixed it in with the Mac & Cheese to add some taste to it. 3/5 stars Sticky Toffee Pudding I saw this on the menu and figured I should get it. Now I am sure the fact it was take away meant you can't have a warm pudding and some ice cream and expect it to survive the trip home. I might suggest separating the two. Have a hot pudding and ice cream in a different container. As it stood, a cold pudding and cold ice cream was not what I was expecting. A true disappointment. 2/5 stars Disposable cutlery. Now in this age the disposable fork should be the thing of the past. Wooden ones would be better. The plastic one was horrible. Less than 2 minutes in the meal of Mac the thing warped and was useless. I did see if the same was true for the other fork - same results. Besides for take away. Most people use their own cutlery. -1/5. The side dishes were great. The brisket was certainly worth it but the rest made the meal a hard pass. read more

We had the smoked brisket poutine, jerk chicken and smoked brisket mac and cheese The jerk chiggin was kinda spicy (to be expected) and still moist. The poutine was good with the pulled brisket on top. You get a good amount to share between two people. The mac n cheese was dry (not a creamy dish) and needed a little bit more salt and flavour but it had cool shaped noodles (maybe add more salt when you're boiling the noodles). I personally prefer creamy mac n cheese. Some like the dry baked kind A heads up on a few things: When you eat here, you will definitely leave with the stench of the smoke from the bbq on you. (Or some guys might like that). So don't plan to go out after coming here. You will need a change of clothes after and you might even need to shampoo your hair. Instead, call ahead for your order and pick it up, if you can. The price for just 1 jerk leg quarter was expensive at around $7.00. That seems a bit unreasonable. Would be nice if the prices came down. Also it may take them some time to prepare your order, so call ahead to save yourself the wait time. The owners are very friendly and want to do right by their customers. I look forward to trying their other dishes. I recommend this place. read more

I needed mac and cheese and my boyfriend found this place through a Yelp search. Since they were offering delicious looking BBQ too, we decided to make it into a feast fitting for Christmas. They have a great social media team so they we were able to get in contact with them via Facebook and they told us about their holiday hours and how to put in an order online (apparently the system is only available for orders at certain times during the day). We were able to put in an order a few days in advance for pickup on Christmas. When we arrived they were still packing up our order. They told us we could wait in the car and they would bring it out to us which resulted in a great contactless delivery. Before I get into it, the one really weird thing is that nothing we ordered came with a side of BBQ sauce. We ordered a few things a la carte and some things as plates. I think at most BBQ places, especially if you dine in, they often feature their own BBQ sauce and they'll have bottles at the table for you to use as much as you want really. Here we didn't even get a hint of BBQ sauce lol. Anyways it turned out it would be okay since things were flavoured well but if that's what you're expecting, make sure you order a side of sauce. We ordered a lot to try. You really can't go wrong with any of their sides. I saw some reviews that said their cornbread needed some work. I'd recommend heating it up in the oven for a bit since it's a lot better warm. The maple beans had that special touch of sweetness, the Jalapeno corn was really flavourful and not too spicy, and the coleslaw was a really nice palette cleanser between meat courses. I absolutely loved the brisket mac and cheese and the jerk chicken poutine. I probably could have eaten one of those as a main. As for the main meaty courses, I tried the beef rib, corned beef brisket, and normal brisket. The rib was wonderfully spiced but a bit shy of fall off the bone tender. The corned beef brisket was true to taste with a great texture. The normal piece of brisket I had was a little fattier which I prefer and was good but maybe not the most tender I've ever had. Hidden gem in Scarborough and lucky for me, it's just around the corner from my place! If it weren't for Covid and that one time I went for a walk, I never would've discovered this place. Sirloin Burger - Really delicious burger that was so juicy. You can just tell how freshly made it was. If you're a huge meat lover, you can even add some brisket. Because it was my first time trying the place, I chose to just have a simple one. One thing though is that they didn't ask what toppings I wanted and just put mayo, pickles and I think mustard. Regardless though, it was delicious and the toppings were perfect. Definitely would go back and have this again. 5/5. Brisket Poutine - I normally prefer a classic poutine with just squeaky cheese and amazing gravy but this I had to try. Definitely a must try if you like various kinds of poutine. Was bursting with flavour! Portion is also pretty generous so you can have 2 meals unless you're really hungry. The brisket just melts in your mouth, fries were on point as with the cheese and gravy. 5/5. Brisket Mac & Cheese - Just like my poutine, I like my Mac and Cheese simple but this is an amazing dish. That brisket, man!! It's the truth! Beef Short Rib - One of the best things I've ever tasted. This brontosaurus sized short rib you can tell, was smoked for hours.
