Update: went back Aug 2023, and unfortunately I found the fries to be overcooked (extra crispy, as if it was refried). the burger bun was burned at the top a bit. The order took a long time to arrive and the food itself was underwhelming. The fries portion took 3/4 of my plate with the burger in a corner. The rice and jerk chicken were good though. No A/C inside, so we had to sit outside as it was very hot inside the restaurant. Never been here for dine-in as we usually get takeout, but the dine-in experience is a gamechanger! Why, you ask? The food tastes just as good and the staff is very friendly as well. Nothing beats eating hot food soon as it's served. The menu is extensive and has quite a lot of options to choose from. It's also nice to see that there is an option for chicken offered. The portions are also very generous and can easily be shared with one more person or more (depending on how much you eat). The cowboy sandwich (as recommended by our server) was very filling and delicious. I also enjoyed the k-pop fries a lot (the kimchi wasn't too spicy and worked so well). Lastly, the highlight had to be the smoked triple A beef back ribs. They were so well flavored, tasty and the meat was tender. It melts in your mouth and was so soft/easy to cut. The rice and sauce work so well together too and I loved this dish the most.

Chainsmoker is a BBQ restaurant which is also halal - that's a huge plus since I have a friend who has dietary restrictions. The restaurant itself is a fast-casual vibe, so don't expect things like tap water lol. I thought the food was really good and portions were huge. I had the burger where the meat was seasoned very nicely and the quality of ingredients were very fresh. The aioli they had was very unique. Staff was very nice as well! I'll definitely be back.

Spent close to $50 for one order of beef ribs and Mac. It was 80% fat on 2 bones. See pic. Mac and cheese was tasteless and undercooked noodles. I had to add salt and garlic powder to make it somewhat edible. This is a new location on Lawrence Ave East. They do none of the cooking there apparently. When asked about a few smoking things like what type of smoker, they had no clue. Won't be back unless they start putting meat on dem bones. Beef Back Ribs

When I first saw the name, Chainsmoker, on my Ritual app, all I could think about was The Chainsmokers. I had that song with Coldplay in my head as I continued scrolling through the menu items. It has taken me what feels like forever to order from this place. Chainsmoker is five minutes away from my workplace, but I work from home these days. Roughly two Saturdays ago, I was in the neighbourhood and decided to order takeout from the place. I ordered the following: - Beef brisket, with house coleslaw, a dill pickle, and mixed greens (fries are the other option) - Cajun hush puppies - Barq's cream soda My order was expected to take twenty minutes. I added an extra five minutes before I got there. Chainsmoker is in the same plaza as DriveTest and a bunch of eateries. On a Saturday, folks were in line at the former. I don't know whether they were doing the actual driving test or a written one. It can get crazy at this plaza with nervous drivers and hungry people during the weekday. However, it felt much more relaxed on a Saturday. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I took the closest parking spot to the main entrance. There is patio seating. What's interesting is that this plaza is considered to be Toronto. When you look across the street, the north side of Eglinton Avenue West is Mississauga. I walked in and there are health safety measures in place. The flow is one-way inside a rather small eatery. I got to the counter and said that I had a Ritual order. One of the women said that they needed five more minutes. Cool. I waited patiently while taking photos. One of the women in the kitchen looked at what I was doing. She finally stopped. My order was nicely packed. The woman who spoke to me earlier advised that they had run out of Barq's cream soda. Bummer! Instead, I asked about the Barbican bottles. She said that they are popular carbonated drinks from the Middle East. Sold! I eyed the raspberry one and got it. I thanked the now two women at the counter who said to enjoy my meal. I happily headed over to my car and drove home. All barbeque here is halal. In other words, you are not going to find pork on the menu. It's seems odd considering that traditional barbeque always includes pork. However, it works. The first time I had hush puppies was in Charlotte. They were delicious. I had to get the cajun ones here. They are deep-fried corn dumplings with smoked mozzarella cheese, and green onions. They were bigger than I had expected. It had corn kernels in them, which this corn fan was thrilled with. They came with a mustard mayo sauce. It all worked nicely. I think that they'd be better smaller and more crispy, but were pretty good. The benchmark is still the ones that I had in Charlotte. I then went into the beef brisket. It was tender, smokey, and yummy. I didn't need a knife to slice through it. My plastic fork (yes, plastic) did the cutting and it was effortless. It was perfect. I got barbeque sauce on the side, which complemented the brisket nicely. I loved the coleslaw. The cabbage and veggies were super crispy. The dressing was creamy and done well. I got mixed greens with some tangy dressing on the side. I am guessing that it was a peach dressing, but it was tough to figure out, as the flavour was subtle. It was good, but I wanted more boldness in flavour. The mixed greens were so fresh. The raspberry Barbican drink was delightful. It wasn't overly sweet or carbonated. It tasted like carbonated raspberry beverages that I have been making on a Sodastream, but far more professional! I enjoyed this new find and want to try the other flavours that are available. I saw chicken wings on the menu. I want to get those the next time I'm here. There's also a barbequed chicken po'boy that has piqued my interest. It's nice getting a bit of southern food that is also halal. It's an interesting combination. I like it. Mac and cheese needs to be on the menu, though! (401)

I'd almost given up searching for good halal Texas style barbecue... And chainsmoker was the answer to my prayers. From the rustic outlook to the smoky barbecue smell the moment you walked inside, you knew this is going to be good. We reserved a table as it was my mother in law's birthday and the whole experience was nothing less than perfect. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us recommendations on what to eat, especially as some of my family hadn't tasted good barbecue before, and this really helped. Upon receiving our paper plates and disposable cutlery , my hubby and I looked at each other knowing that we'd chosen the best place for a sticky, smoky and oozing with deliciousness barbecue. And it definitely met up to the expectations. Our ribs were falling off the bone and packed with flavour , the brisket was tender and melt in the mouth, the chicken burger was juicy and the jerk fries had the perfect kick. I can't get over how good this place was for a meat lover like me. And to top it all off, one of the staff came to have a chat with us, and even gave my mother in law one of the best mango kulfis I've ever tasted as a birthday treat! The food, the ambiance, the service ... Everything here was incredible! 10/10! Thank you!

Takeout only. 50% off entire menu until 07/31/2020 excluding drinks. There's a list upon entry for date, name, and time for contact tracing purposes. They do not have the impossible burger anymore due to extremely low sales. Shame. Left with the AAA beef brisket ($18) - came with rice or twice cooked crispy fries or mixed greens. Dill pickle and house coleslaw. Five Cajun hush puppies($8). Fried sweet corn dump lies and smoked mozzarella, garnished with green onion and a side of mustard mayo dipping sauce. Creamy coleslaw ($4). Standard coleslaw. Container size was small to be honest. All in all, 50% off makes it worth it. Is it worth full price? Debatable. Still disappointed about the discontinuation of the impossible burger though.

Phenomenal food! "The best brisket I've ever tasted"said several customers (including me) to the chef. This location of Chainsmoker has reopened under new ownership. The decor has a rustic yet cozy feel. 5 tables seat up to 24 people in the entire space. They have a wheelchair accessible washroom, complete with a bidet type hose. We ordered the AAA beef brisket ($24) but they were sold out by 7:30pm on the Saturday of a long weekend. We were able to score a taste of said brisket and I can totally see why it was sold out. It's everything I look for in brisket- flavourful, smoky without being overpowering, and oh so juicy! Thankfully chef Mark was able to churn out another brisket, so we ordered that for takeout. We enjoyed the beef short rib ($22) with a side Caesar salad at the restaurant. You can tell that a lot of care and attention are placed in every detail of the meal, including the fresh pickled cucumbers and the coleslaw with fresh dill and herbs in it. The Caesar salad topped with fried wonton crisps and shaved Parmesan was the perfect lighter complement to the short rib. The short rib was generously portioned, tender and not too fatty and was served with a delicious smoky sweet barbecue sauce. Until February 28, 2022, they are offering 50% off everything except the large platters. We had our fill of food and an order of brisket to enjoy later, all for around $36. You need to eat here!!!

Back again tonight! This time brought my whole family. VERDICT: they all loved it! They all like the softness and juiciness of the brisket and the jerk chicken. The fries to them are AWESOME! The salad for me was plain but that's okay. The Mac and cheese is good too. Maybe less or light on the cheeses creamy sauce. Maybe add some garlic flavour to it, that would be bomb I have the chefs special which was two lamb shanks in the Filipino dish called caldareta. It was really good! The meat fell off the bomb so easily! I can't wait to see their next menu special!

Was hungry after being around Centennial Park. Saw this bbq place on Yelp and decided to stop by. This place did not disappoint at all! Firstly, they serve halal barbeque! I got the brisket platter, great tasting barbeque. Smoked to the point that the meat practically melts in your mouth. And for the amount of meat you is quite hefty as well. Had the options for rice, salad or potatoes as side and i went with the salad for a healthier choice. Also got the grilled corn which was good. I mean, you can never really go wrong with a grilled corn right!? Overall, it was one tasty meal. I'd definitely go back.

Had the brisket and was absolutely delicious. Sauce is put onto the side so you can add as much or as little as you want. Coleslaw was one of the best I've ever had with a lot of fresh dill. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Overall, great experience

    Burnt, barely there meat.

Horrible ... horrible....All bone and very little meat... 3 ribs over cook to burnt, what little meat was there was tough. Sad commentary when your rice is better than the "over price"... $43... ribs you sell. First time, last time....can't blame this on COVID...

a hamburger and fries on a plate

The food was really good; we enjoyed all of the food. We actually came here twice. Only thing was that their menu was unreliable; on the menu it said that the brisket on the Main menus would include "bbq sauce, creamy coleslaw, pickles and a choice of 1 side". Both times I did not get the coleslaw or pickles. The 1st time, I asked about it before I was heading out and the worker apologized. The next time I went, I asked about it when they brought out the food & the guy was adamant that the coleslaw wasn't included.

He brought one home and I devoured it. The bun was soft, the veal was breaded and tender, the marinara sauce was fresh, and it had onions, peppers, and mushrooms that made it the best sandwich. He bought them for me late in my high school and all through my undergraduate years. I moved away. He retired. Veal sandwiches died. Coming back to the GTA, the best veal sandwich I have had is from California Sandwiches. This location is the closest one to my workplace. On Saturday, I had to go into the office and stopped by this location to grab a bite before getting down to work. This location is on Dixie, just north of the 401. You expect tired, hungry truckers around this area on a Saturday. Then, you have folks like me. I wanted a veal sandwich and was hungry. Parking in front of the eatery is limited. I got a spot out of the possible five available. There is also a back entrance where there is more parking. I walked in. There was a woman ahead of me ordering three sandwiches. I already knew what I wanted. This California Sandwiches looks dated from the outside, but is pretty decent inside. I finally got to place my order for a veal sandwich with mushrooms. Technology-wise, the woman took my order down on small pieces of paper. The only modern thing seemed to be the debit machine. Judging by the sign where it said it accepted cash, scribbled in pen underneath was debit. I was armed with both and paid with cash. Everyone there seemed to be Italian. I liked the homey vibe. She asked if I wanted anything else. I got a bottled diet Dr. Pepper. I found out later on that there was San Pellegrino. Oh, well. I'll get that next time. This California Sandwiches is a bit different. You can buy bottles of marinara sauce to take home. Fish and chips are on the menu. If you can fit poutine in your tummy with your sandwich, it's available. Finally, if you feel like pasta, you can get some here. I loved all the choices. It took a bit of time to get my order. There were three orders ahead of mine. Finally, my sandwich was ready. The woman who prepared asked whether I was dining in. I was. No tray. Just the sandwich wrapped in paper was handed to me. I loved all of it! The woman called me sweetie when she handed me my sandwich. It was endearing. I happily sat down and looked forward to chowing down. Why do I love California Sandwiches? The veal is larger than the bun. I opened my sandwich up and felt so happy looking at such beauty. It came with lots of napkins. You need all of them! I took my first bite. I was in heaven. The veal was tender. The breading was perfect. It was light and yummy. I loved the marinara sauce with little chunks of onion. Finally, all those sliced mushrooms got my seal of approval. The yummy bun held everything together. Some have complained that it's expensive to get a sandwich here. With taxes, my sandwich with mushrooms and a bottled drink came up to $14.50. Considering that my sandwich was huge, packed with goodness, and I didn't eat anything until dinner, it's all worth it to me. It does get messy eating this sandwich. After I was done, I washed my hands in the women's washroom. It has two stalls. It was clean. It's dated, but everything works. I'd come back here again for another yummy veal sandwich. It's good reliving good memories while creating new ones. (169)

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive without ever feeling overbearing. Our server checked in at the right times, kept drinks topped up, and made sure everything came out just the way we ordered it. I ordered a steak and it was cooked exactly to my preference, with a great sear on the outside and tender, juicy meat inside. You can really taste the quality of the beef and seasoning, and it arrived hot and full of flavor. For the price, the portion size and quality are excellent, and it honestly felt like a much more expensive steakhouse experience without the high price tag. The sides were fresh and tasty, and there were lots of options on the menu for different tastes, but the steak is the star of the show. Overall, the value is hard to beat. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend Chuck's Roadhouse to anyone looking for a great steak dinner at a great price.
