Okay so it takes a lot for me to write a negative review but after multiple visits it's time to be honest. My husband bought tamales when they first opened and we both enjoyed them. They weren't amazing but not bad. I came early one morning for tamales and pan dulce. The pan Dulce was fresh but nothing special. Very generic. However the tamales were completely different. Very little filling and uneven. Today for my next visit I'm very disappointed and honestly frustrated. The tamales were even worse. The chicken was chunky instead of shredded so there was barely any flavor or sauce and parts of the tamale were dried out. The sweet corn tamale was so gross it was mushy and brown on the outside and dark yellow on the inside nothing like it has been before. The reason I'm writing this review is because how poorly I was treated today ordering from the pollo stand. The woman who took my order was pleasant to her coworkers until she had to take my order. I ordered classic tenders. She put buffalo tenders instead. I saw this mistake on the screen and asked her to verify the tenders would be classic since the screen said buffalo. She didn't make the change and said yes it's classic. She went back to prepping food and did not fill my order, though I was the only person there I had to wait for another employee to fill the order. He filled part of the order and walked away. Then a different employee started to fill the rest of the order. I saw the employee fill the tenders with buffalo. When my name was called I asked the employee to verify the tenders were classic and he said no they are buffalo. I told him that was a mistake I asked for classic. He got me the correct item, apologized and said he was just going off the screen. This store is very new so the ambiance is nice because everything is very clean. First visit to this Northgate. Like all new places, it was clean, well lit, and had a welcoming vibe. One or two friendly and kind employees. Others were a little rude, not helpful or slow. Comparable to other markets in the area. Plenty to look at, lots of variety. Smaller than other Northgates that I've been to but not the smallest. Something different and inconvenient, you have to pay for the bread in the bakery. You cannot take it to the checkout with you. I had a heavy hand basket and had a hard time carrying it and the bread tray while waiting in a slow moving line. Bread was disappointing and won't be buying it again so the separate line won't be an issue for me in the future. The fruit and ceviche were fresh and delicious. Recommend giving it a try. read more

Walking around it is like a food court but everything Mexican food. It's a chill vibe around here and the butchers are helpful too. Choosing marinated or separately cuts of meat. We haven't even walked up and down the aisles yet and we turn the corner for the produce section. Definitely different in here for me. Don't care why others wrote reviews and rated it low. We went here on a Sunday around 11:30 and I knew we were going to deal with post church shopping! We threw ourselves into the crowds and went in. It's overwhelming the first time shopping here but it was so much fun. We only walked half the store so we need to go back and explore the Pandaria and other sections. The tameles we got were ok, too much masa but tasty. Chicken, pork and a pineapple is what we got. The ceviche section was cool and you can ask for samples, I went with a traditional shrimp and it's yummy. My housemate is Hispanic and got Tres Leches and she liked it . The fresh tortillas are solid and hot in the bag. Like I said, maybe a Tuesday morning won't be so crazy busy. I want to see what other amazing things this store has in store for me. read more

Taking my family to another Mercado Gonzalez Northgate Market in Chino. The parking lot is big, but there are so many people that it can be difficult to get a parking spot. When you go into the entrance, fresh tortillas are being made, and you can ask to try a sample on your right hand side. The fresh tortillas are soft, warm, and delicious! There are other food stalls in the back where you may get good food. My in-laws purchased a plenty of breads and fresh guacamole sauce. A great place to walk around in the afternoon. read more

This grocery store replaced the Clark's Nutrition and Natural Foods Market. I was here with my family in the evening for the grand opening. It was super packed and even the parking lot was packed. The store was clean and well organized. We got a chance to sample fresh corn tortillas and flour tortillas with butter. Mmmm! Love it. You can order fresh packaged to go. This store sells Mexican groceries filled with fresh produce, fruits, dairy, frozen items, celebration section, grab & go, panadería (bread), carnicería (meat) and tortillería (tortillas), Alcohol, etc..... ....it was nice to see they have food court, too. We ordered: 6 pieces Buffalo wings 3 pieces of Chicken tenders Pollo Asado plate with corn tortillas, rice and potatoes salad Pollo Chipotle, with fries and pinto beans, and flour tortillas. We enjoyed our meal. The Pollo was fresh, juicy, soft and delicious. Service was extremely helpful it was my first time and it won't be last. I was a bit lost waiting online for the cheese selection until a helpful employee guided me in the right direction. Everyone is super friendly and helpful with a lot of employees which is needed for how busy it is. I am happy to see how many people enjoy the supermarket. It feels like a well rounded market with good quality ingredients and food. It feels like a cultural celebration when you walk down each isle you're proud to live in chino and this market does it right. I got a taco for $3 the auga Fresca was close to $6 and we got the fresh sour cream 1lb for $3 and it's delicious! I will try the bakery section next. I randomly heard about this spot on social media and was excited they opened one in the I.E., between SGV and Fontana. It's a classic Spanish market similar to Vallarta and Cardenas! This particular location was really nice, definitely new. I loved the food court and the panadería (sweet bread section). The only thing is, you have to pay there directly instead of bringing your buns to the checkout counter. I really hope this place does well, I'd love to see it thrive! read more

Opening Day Fiesta! Absolutely excited to have this Northgate open in Chino! Over 700 people lined up - I was there 820am and took about 45 min. The wait was worth every minute! Beautiful grocery store with every fresh & high quality produce. Samples galore and happy friendly faces, both people who worked there and people met along the aisle. Anyhow my goal was to check it out and gawk, buy my kids a couple of pan dulces. Plan failed in beautiful fashion. Bought $50 worth of ceviche and aguachile. Fresh guac. A plate of pork & chicharonnes stew with Mexican Coke. My friends got the chile relleno, and spinach/pineapple aguas Fresca. I could go on.... Lots of samples and the best ceviche I've had so far, shrimp mango and aguachile negro camaron. Mariachi band serenaded the cheese section. Super fun vibes! I finally went to visit Northgate, not once, but 2 weeks in a row. I was glad when I found out that the opened a location in the IE. It was long overdue. Coming here early is a nonnegotiable, because it can get pretty packed up. This location has a variety of mini food stands (tacos, tortillas, full meals, desserts, etc) but my go to is their bakery. Their pan dulce is top notch!! There is always a line to pay. Also, the fresh tortillas are a must!! The cleanliness and the overall feel of the store, makes grocery shopping cool. An awesome selection of meat is a definite reason to go here. My one gripe, is that some prices can be a little steep. I noted that a 16oz package of straight guacamole was like $12. A little confused on some of the 1 and 2 star reviews unless some of them are coming from Cardenas ops from the area. Of course lines are going to be wrapped around the building when it's their grand opening day. That's to be expected, not for the whole market to be severely dinged over it. Came back after the hype. I came on Mother's day and not a single person was kind enough to say Happy Mother's Day. I bought from the Mariscos, chicken, panaderia and the worst one, the Carnitas spot. I purchased my food at 2:15 and did not get my order until 3:13. That is unacceptable. I asked the cashier to please check on my food, its been TOO LONG. They said because i ordered the family pack it takes longer. Ummmm, wtf its already made. Yall just scooping it up from the hot plates. When we finally got our food... wrong order. We were already home when we noticed. Purchasing from each and every single food spot is so inconvenient and time consuming. Line after line and if you're purchasing regular items. No churro station (sad), but the fresh flour tortillas are elite and the free samples are my weakness. Went on a Saturday night during Coachella weekend and there was literally no line, which surprised me since they're only in week 2 of opening. Hoping they keep it clean and well maintained. We stopped by for their grand opening and needless to say they were crowded. We sampled their flour and corn tortillas which are made there and are good. We bought pork and cheese tamales the pork tamales were dry and there was too much masa the cheese tamales were really good we also bought ceviche, which was very good. We've visited a few Northgate grocery stores and like the others they have a big selection of traditional Mexican foods and items. The interior is huge with many stocked items. The meat, seafood, and poultry, as well as the produce and fruits are fresh. The flowers are at a good price. The bakery's pan dulce is so good. I make sure to buy an assorted dozen every time I visit. We'll be visiting again soon. read more

What makes supermarket unique compared to other markets is that they have a deli section, dedicated area for Chili peppers, ceviche restaurant, tequila vendor. Bakery section and meat selection is decent. For now they sell Pepper plants including Carolina Reapers, Thai, Tabasco, Jalapeño, Serrano, and a few more. The selection for beers and coffee is quite extensive for a Mexican market. Overall, this will take over as my go to Mexican market. I loved this market, but I am completely surprised and disappointed by how they handled an incident involving a foreign metal object in my food. I inadvertently chewed and swallowed pieces of it, leading to discomfort and fear from feeling something foreign in my throat. Thankfully, there was no severe damage, but I worry about how different things could have been if my daughter had been the one to swallow it, especially since we usually eat together. It has been four days since I reported the incident. I spoke with a female manager who seemed indifferent--she didn't ask for my name or any details to file a report. When I returned a couple of days later, I was informed that the store manager was not on duty, only a front-end manager. She attempted to reach someone above her for assistance, but they dismissed the matter, labeling it a "corporate issue." She took my first and last name and promised that someone would call me, but I have yet to receive any communication. As a store and a company, shame on you. If something serious had happened to me or my daughter, what would you have done then? No amount of money can fix a tragedy. I urge you to show empathy and take responsibility for your mistakes--step up your customer service. read more

I love Northgate, I grew up in SGV and had a Gonzalez around the corner and on the other side of town. This is definitely not like the one I grew up with. This is elevated and upscale, really nice, the tamale counter was delicious, my son loved the champurrado, we bought carnitas family pack on day 2nd week after they opened late on a Wednesday night and closing up, but they still attended us and even though they ran out of rice they went to another counter where they had rice and the employee that helped us got us a salsa from inside the store because they were also out. He was very kind asked if we needed anything else and came to our table to give us plates and napkins. Has great meat and a big selection of Mexican food. read more

I'm writing this in hopes that management and upper management seriously look into what is going on at this Chino location, because the food quality and organization at the food court have been extremely disappointing. We went on opening day, but so many items were already sold out that we had to leave and come back the next day. On that second visit, we ordered tamales, and they were not good at all. The service was also very disorganized. Orders were taking a long time, people were waiting around 10 to 20 minutes, and staff kept forgetting people's orders. It did not seem organized or properly managed. I gave the location another chance because it is close to my home. On my third visit, we ordered the pollo chicken combo for dinner. It was terrible. The chicken was dry, bland, and had no flavor. The rice and beans did not taste fresh and looked like they had been sitting out for hours. Everything felt like cafeteria-style food that had been scooped and left under heat. Even the tortillas seemed old or stale. A few days later, we came back again to try a burrito. I originally wanted carnitas, but they were sold out, so I was told to try the chicharron instead. I was given a sample from the front display area, and it was actually good. But when the burrito was made, the chicharron they used seemed to come from the back and was completely different. It was stale, not crunchy in a fresh way, and so hard and old that it actually cut my lip when I bit into it. That was unacceptable. The rice and beans in the burrito were also tasteless. At this point, after multiple visits, I can honestly say the food court food has been a waste of money. The tamales tasted like microwave food. The chicken combo was one of the worst I've had. The burrito was bad, and I was shocked that they did not even have carne asada available. The only things that were decent were the ceviche and the drinks. Everything else from the food court was extremely disappointing. This location needs serious attention from management. Chino deserves good food, and this is not it. The food quality is worse than cafeteria food and worse than microwave meals. For a market representing Mexican food, this has been one of the worst experiences I've had. I strongly urge upper management to oversee this location more closely, improve food quality, improve freshness, and fix the disorganized service before more customers are disappointed. read more

Chino resident here. Let's start with observing that people were fighting over parking. I feel bad for the people at fitness 19 that are stuck to find parking to work out. Went inside and headed to the ceviche bar. A gentleman completely got in front of me and asked to taste and the lady laughed and helped him. When it was my Turn i knew what I wanted so I asked for it but I didn't get the same good service back. It's like I was a bother. I was really excited to check out Northgate Market, especially with all the hype around the new location. The concept is great on paper, but the execution was honestly disappointing. The store is packed, which I get, but what stood out was how inefficient things felt. There's a lot of staff on the floor, yet very little actual help. Groups of employees were standing around talking while customers were clearly waiting or trying to figure things out. It makes a busy environment feel even more chaotic. The layout and individual food stations are a cool idea, but the pricing is hard to justify. A large agua fresca for around $9 is excessive for what is essentially water, sugar, and a few add-ins. I picked up three carne asada burritos and a few drinks, and the total came out close to $70. That just doesn't match the value you expect. The tamale station was especially disappointing. It looks impressive, but it didn't feel authentic. There was no actual preparation happening, just reheating next to what looked like a large freezer. That takes away from the whole experience they're trying to create. Overall, I understand what they're going for, and the idea has potential. But right now it feels like hype over substance. For the price point and the crowd, I expected better service, better quality, and a more genuine experience. I love having a local Northgate in our neighborhood! I got Carnitas, Bolilo Rolls, Fresh Guacamole, Cotija cheese and some lettuce and made delicious Tortas at home! Sad they were out of the Avocado Salsa on this visit but overall super happy with this location! Every one of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. Love the vibes! I read another review that the store has no POC working, but I'm not sure what they meant since the store has an extremely diverse staff. However, I do think some of the depts should have an age minimum for hiring and maybe that would resolve the issue with inconsistent customer service. Still think it could be more affordable but overall, I enjoyed my experience and wanted to offer an updated review. read more

The four young men working at Los Trece Pollos demonstrated zero sense of urgency and less accountability. They were more worried about their conversations than working. All they had to do was put orders together for food that was already made! Just pack orders! I waited 30 min before I decided to ask for a refund. The poor guy in-front of me probably ate cold tamales (luckily he got in and out of that line in 8 minutes). Hector (looked like maybe a supervisor) did help me get my money back and was very apologetic.
