The restaurant is very nicely decorated, and very clean and inviting. The staff was wonderful. My husband and I both had an egg roll, and Kung Bo Beef. Both were very tasty, and very fresh ingredients. This was our first time eating here, and we agreed that we'd eat here again so we could try other dishes. For me to give an establishment 2 stars, the experience must have had to been bad. First off I was only in Covington/Mandeville hood because I was out there visiting my aunt. Along with my 2 aunts was my mom and when my mom goes out to eat, I want to make sure she is receiving good service and the food is good. Anyways, we came at lunch, it was really busy, which is great for the restaurant itself. My reason for coming here was because the menu had Vietnamese food and I wanted my aunt, who I was visiting, to eat something Vietnamese since it's been over 15 years since she's probably had any viet cuisine. At any rate, the food was expensive for the amount served and it wasnt even good. Yea, you right, I wont be coming back. I have to be super desparate in order to come back to this particular establishment. The service was good despite it being rush hour. Our waittress did not understand our order. We wanted to order an entree and not a lunch special but when the food appeared a lunch plate with an extra portion came out. It was disappointing because my mom and aunt were hungry and they were planning to share the entree with an order of rice. I ordered a mix veggie plate. For what the price was you would think they would give your egg rolls and fried rice with the lunch special but the damn place is so cheap they give you plain fried wontons and white rice. My aunt had a vermecilli dish which came with shrimp---for what they charged the crispy rolls should have came with it but instead they charged $3 for supposedly 3 mini rolls....the big disappointment was that it barely had any vermecilli in the damn bowl. Overpriced and not enough food for the price you are paying. I can go in the hood to a corner store and get better food than this damnit. For friggin chinese food for 4 people at lunch time the bill came to $58 dollars. WTF???? My aunt and I just said never ever again. Never again yall heard me. Aint even worth the ride. One of the best Chinese restaurants on the Northshore. We always have to eat here at least once every time we go to Covington to visit. They have some of the best home-cooked Chinese food I've ever had. I have yet to find a better place to eat. Their meals are always hot and always fresh because they are cooked to order, and the staff is very friendly. They do usually get really busy around 6:30pm and the place fills up pretty fast, so I recommend going early. read more

This place has the BEST hot & sour soup I've ever had! My current favorite is the Empress Pork, which is like sweet and sour pork but with a kick. I'm also a fan of their lemongrass chicken. My husband is a very picky eater and he loves their honey chicken, lemongrass chicken, and LOVES their egg rolls. Service is always great too! They have awesome lunch specials so you can expect a crowd at lunch. I often call ahead and order take out. They always get my order correct and are fast. The food and service are really good. The servers are wonderful. The specials are great. I've eaten here at least ten times. However, I'm really put off by the political vibe. Fox News is always on the screens at the bar. Normally, i could overlook that. But, the rabble at the bar, egged on by the owner, just about every time I've been there, engage in talk about guns and pro Trump BS. I know...Northshore, right? It's more than the norm, however. I ate there today for lunch, purposely staying away from the bar because i didn't want to see Fox News and hear crazy right wing talk. However, from across the room I heard the owner espousing outlandish conspiracy theories about the Parkland, FL shootings. He seemed to suggest that the Broward County cops were complicit in it, saying, "I'm a conspiracy kind of guy." Just went to Northshore Empress and it was great. From the huge appetizer plate for two, the delicious mandarin chicken, the perfectly done shrimp fried rice that wasn't at all greasy, and a fog cutter drink that was scrumptious. Today was Thursday lunch and I was nearby so I had to see and it was open and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table at 12:45. Now that I've tried it. As for my entree - I usually get a pho or the pork chop vermicelli bowl. It is really flavorful but could benefit from some added steamed bean sprouts or extra lettuce. My wife and I ate there last Tuesday I had the Kung bo chicken And she did ding beef. We did split an order of eggrolls which were fantastic and we split their empress soup which we both thought was excellent. if you like a good broth-based aromatic soup with plenty in it to keep you busy. We also had hot jasmine tea which was delicious and well worth the $2.50 per cup (two refills allowed) In short it was nice to have a quality sit down dinner in a Chinese restaurant without all the confusion of the buffet places trying to be everything for everybody. Oh and even though I rarely read my fortune cookie I did this time and it was a keeper! Almost forgot, we did an order of lo mein (chicken) To go for my daughter and it was almost as good as what I had in San Francisco years ago in Chinatown Very good service as well read more

!!!!READ BEFORE GOING!!!!! The waitress we had was the rudest waitress I've ever had at any restaurant. This was the first I have been there, and I will never go back. I went with a group from work, and when I asked for sweet tea, she got really loud and rude saying "we only have unsweetened tea!" I said, "unsweet is fine." I then ordered the same thing o get at my normal Chinese place (sesame chicken and chow mein noodles). She said in a rude tone that they couldn't replace rice for noodles. I said "fine, bring it how it comes" (because I was on my lunch break and needed my food quickly). She went on to try to order noodles separately and something else with rice. I said again, "just bring it how it comes." she said again something I couldn't understand about the rice, and I told her "just bring it however you want to bring it". This went on for a few more minutes then she continued to order the rest of the table. She then brought out a few drinks and asked again what I wanted to drink. I told her again "tea." She was completely rude to the entire table. No matter how good the food is, I will never step foot in that place again. The whole time she was very "jerky" with how she would grab the cups and the place and how she set everything down. I got spring rolls, and it had pork in it (when it's only supposed to have shrimp). I was going to leave it alone. Then I got very bad food (the sesame chicken was crusted with sesame as seen in picture) At this point I was so disappointed that I told the waitress the food was bad and I couldn't eat it so I wouldn't be paying for it. She said okay, and I didn't hear anything else. My party (who've been here before) said to go tell the OWNER. After I told him everything from the tea to the chicken, he said (EXTREMELY RUDE) that the waitress is not a mind reader. I said that I would not come back. They have a pretty diverse menu with pho, vermicelli, and generic Chinese food. Notice the sesame chicken is not like other sesame chicken at other places it's like breaded chicken breast with no sauce. The emperor's chicken or honey chicken is more like that sesame chicken. read more

This is my favorite Chinese/Vietnamese place to eat ever. The food is always amazing and cooked to order and the staff is so nice and genuine. Their culture is brought to life the second you step foot in the restaurant. PRO TIP if you like spice and tend to find food bland they have special spice sauces in different heat temperatures that they can cook into your food. My wife and I ate there last night and we got our drink and placed our order. We were discussing the days happenings when the owner appears at our table and she asks us to move to another table. This is very rude. There was a family that had just come in and the owner felt like we should move to another table that was a little table and really not comfortable and also they took our chairs and moved them to the table we were asked to leave for the new family. Now we have a table with only 2 chairs and the new family passed us up to get to their table and made a comment that they would not get up for us. Another rude comment. We always went to Trey Yuen but decided to try Northshore Empress, wow what a mistake. This would never happen at Trey Yuen. I learned a valuable lesson. Northshore Empress has no Empress and are very rude people. When at Trey Yuen you get twice the amount of food that comes on a platter and another dish with the Fried rice and another with the fried won ton. At the Northshore Empress everything comes on one small plate making you think you have a large plate of food. You always have food to take home at Trey Yuen. As I said I learned a valuable lesson last night. You get what you pay for in regards to food and CLASS. If you want to get your seat given to another family go to Northshore Empress , if you want to keep your seat at you table go to Trey Yuen. Not happy customer from Covington read more
