I moved into a house nearby last summer and have spent more money than I ever expected here. For fixing things around the house, and small projects I have yet to not be able to find what I need here. One thing to remember, the store is jammed full of stuff and the organization is not intuitive. The staff are friendly though, so just ask where to find what you need. I wasted a lot of time at first wandering around trying to find what I needed. There's also a good amount of HVAC sheet metal, cable, tubing, etc.. in the back if you ask one of the employees. read more

Do not by any means try and buy paint from Northside True Value Hardware located in Wayne Mi. They cannot match paint even based on their own paint codes and will cause you much pain, time and heartache repainting due to touch ups maybe being needed even after only a year. Their philosophy of " If we don't have it, you don't need it" is also a bit condescending as I've found over many years of shopping there they have less and less of what's needed. The sales person was completely annoyed when I needed help regarding the paint issue and I'll suffice to say, Home Depot or Lowe's is your best bet. I'll be completely repainting a significant part of my house to make sur e it matches due to Northside. read more

So I had a piece of glass I needed repaired took the frame in and paid a 20 Dollar deposit the people at the store said it would be a few days but they would get it done for me. They replaced my glass window with plexiglass and charged me an additional 54 dollars when I picked it up a week later. I got the frame home and it did not fit in the window opening I had 3 people try to put it in. I took down the measurements of my window opening and brought it back the man who fixes the glass was very rude made comments like what did your window shrink. He then told me he would have the window fixed in 2 days I went to pick my window up and it was not ready and I was leaving state the following day. Now 2 more weeks have past my daughter called a few times and it is still not done. She called today and the window guy yelled and screamed at her told her the window was on the bottom of the pile and we can not expect it to be done rite away my daughter was in tears when they finished the call. Another one of my children called later this morning the manager said don't worry about it I'll take care of the rude man and refund your money. My daughter went to get my window this evening and they only were willing to give her the amount of the deposit. She was like obisly she paid more than 20 bucks because she paid in full and took the window home. She had her sister on speaker phone and her sister was very upset with the whole thing. Now my daughter has to wait and call back in the morning to see what we can do about a refund we are not about to eat the extra 54 dollars because they took advantage of a woman. I will never do business with them again the customer service was terrible and the only good thing was the morning manager that was willing to deal with the mistake. read more

I recently started to go to Northside True Value Hardware and love it. Very surprised at some of the negative remarks here. Like really, there is no need to give anyone negative remarks just because of anything. People go to far with this reviews. I much rather go to this store than any HD or L. This place has a ton of stuff. I won't say they have everything, but it's close. They employ retired plumbers, handypersons, and electricians to work on the floor so there is always someone there to help when you have a thingamajig that is broken off of your shower head, or whatever. They specialize in helping people that wander the store with a broken part in their hand. They also sell guns (?) and holiday decor......along with lawn and garden stuff and paint. They are part of the True Value chain, so they do occasionally run specials on tools, fertilizer, etc. If you're looking for a broken part for your grill....or maybe a thing so you can screw your garden hose in to your laundry tub faucet (hey, my kids like a warm pool!) this is the place to go. read more

Horrible!! Went to get a key made n ended up having to drive up there 3 times bcuz the key wasn't cut right! No apologies from the staff or offered a refund or anything! And the guy who cut the key the second time was lazy n acted like it was an inconvenience to cut it..smh north side has officially lost my business for good! read more

Been going to this hardware store for years even though Home Depot is closer and a little cheaper but what I like is it reminds me of the hardware store I had growing up and the up and close relationship they have with you. Total NIGHTMARE, here goes, went to get a new patio screen door,took my old one as a sample,all fine left it there, they said they wld call when ready. the called , I went..( I have to depend on my neighbor to get screen coz I don't have a truck ) paid for it came home. John the man making the screen did not cut according to sample..it did not fit. I called a professional installer thinking ..I was doing something wrong. no he said looks like ur john has just passed u on a screen not a custom cut one. So I called northside spoke with Tim,he was amazing very kind he went to ask john .was told that john does not remember making a screen!! wow that really had me worried...didnot really inspire trust in this Establishment!! Now again I had to ask my neighbor s help..was the weekend... he was busy..so I tied it with rope on the roof of my car took it back!! wow...when I went there..1st I had to hear that man Johns mouth bitchin n moaning, all this from inside the store coz he was in the work area where customers r not allowed so cld not talk face to face n explain...anyway back n forth poor Tim went to resolve the matter..finally bad mouthed john agreed to cut it to size which he shd have done in the 1st place considering all his so called experience etc!! but said he wld charge me $16 in labor..I felt cheated ..since I had given him the sample to work with. Spoke with a manager who decided he will split the labor cost with me!!!! REALLY!!!! for no fault of mine have to pay extra!!! it was the moral principle of this whole deal!! so I told the manager...he was so demeaning..said if I had extra money to give it to him!!! anyway I felt so helpless n small I agreed to pay n left ..hoping my screen will b good this time!! finally got my screen again had to beg neighbor to take me..they forgot to add the hardware pac that comes with it...so back to john!! I heard him say ...what more does she want!!!! so even to ask for the part that I was entitled to...I had to suffer the humiliation of his bad mouth.. HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO DO BIZ WITH THESE PEOPLE ...EVER!! read more

I choose this True Value over all others. I have just moved into the area and have gone in for a couple of different issues, missing bolt here, need some industrial carpet there. The place is always busy but I never have an issue finding someone to help me. Each department is well stocked and the service is friendly and HELPFUL. Real customer service. read more

I grew up in this area, been here for 61 years. It has always been said that if Northside doesn't have it, nobody does. If you are doing repairs on a older home this is the place. Friendly and helpful staff. They have fantastic customer service. read more

Nothing like it used to be. Don't even waste your time here, nobody will help you, and the cashiers are as useless as useless gets.

If this hardware store doesn't rate a 5 star, I would very much like to know which one does. In the 20+ years I've lived in the Wayne/Westland area, I have yet to find another store that is as well stocked withing a 100 miles. Although I haven't traveled much out of state, this opinion includes other states that I've explored. The store is old (it was there when I was 10 and I'm over 50 now), the ceiling is low and the floors are covered with aged linoleum that's yellowed as if it were the original tiles. The floors creeks when you walk over them. Although the actual square footage is modest by Mega Hardware store standards, they managed to cram so much into this store that it seems endless. The inventory is incredible! There's at least 4-5 aisles that is devoted to loose plumbing/nuts/bolts bins that is sold by the part or pound, lol. The tool selection is massive and there's even a small gun shop at the rear! What more can you ask for? read more

Northside used to be the best hardware store, what happened. over 2 months ago my wife took 3 screens to them to be re screened. the employee that took the screens in broke them down and put the pieces together a few weeks later i got a call saying he didn't know how to put them back together. so i measured the windows for him he said he would get to them later that day. well that was over a month ago so my wife called them and they had no record on them, so she got a refund of the deposit. where are my screens? the manage said he would find out and call. I talked to him he said he threw them in the garbage. no call nothing he threw them out. I said what are you going to do he said nothing and claimed he called my wife and she was going to come get them. never called us. just threw them out, now i will log a complaint with BBB, and give them 1 more chance to make this right, or a lawsuit will be in order. read more
