My husband, children and I went to Northstar Ford on Friday, May 23rd to purchase a used truck. We had a couple in mind and a price point. We did not have to wait long because we had made an appointment with Jeff Van Meter. He greeted us and brought us in his office to do paperwork and pre-approval. I had told him right away that we wanted to do a joint vehicle loan and we are married. He said since we are married and live in Wisconsin that is the best way to go. He tried to upsell us on other trucks which is totally fine because that is their job. We took the one we ended up buying for a test drive. I told him it had a chip in the windshield which he said they would set up to replace which they did set that up a week later. We told them we wanted it. Jeff and his team started the paperwork. I know it takes some time but when the guy that did the paper work came out to finalize the paperwork it was only in my husbands name (which also meant a slightly worst interest rate because I have a better credit score even though his isnt bad). When I mentioned it to the manager he just said Jeff didnt say that. My husband was pretty frustrated with being there so long with the kids he said whatever. Now I get a letter from the bank that did the loan saying "since you are married you take responsibility if he defaults on his loan but since you weren't on the loan it wont help your credit score". They do not listen to people even though Jeff had insisted that it was a joint loan in the beginning. When my husband leaves and meets back up with my children and I, he lets me know the backup camera isn't working. After trying to get a hold of Jeff for multiple days he says that he would "check with the used vehicle repair man" to see if they would cover it. I told him I understand it is a used vehicle but it worked when we test drove it AND it was advertised on the website as having a working back up camera. After a week of him not getting back to me, I am sure we are just written off and have to "deal with it". Also, the remote start advertised doesnt work on any key fob either You are just a number at Northstar Ford and not a person. Once you leave they don't give one crap. We will not be purchasing any more vehicles here. I should have listened to a friend that went to purchase a brand new vehicle last year and was treated rudely. Lesson learned, I guess. I went there to buy a used vehicle and I bought a lemon, I would ask questions about the vehicle and they said it was good, I asked about the engine light that was on and they said everything had checked out and that the light is just stuck on. After a day of buying the vehicle I noticed leaking under it had everything checked out and was told that the break line and transmission lines were put on wrong, that a front wheel bearing was ready to go, and that there were three codes that popped up on the engine and that it was ready to go. I bring it back up after having it for three possibly 4 weeks and was told I bought as is and everything worked and nothing was on when they sold me the car, I told them that I had a witness with me should I call her to come up No no no they said, we'll help you out if you buy a brand new car I didn't want a brand new car I couldn't afford one They wouldn't help me in any way so I will never ever go back to North Star Ford read more

Drove my truck in for motor and brake work. Waited 2 weeks to be told my truck was ready. Asked what they determined the brake issue was, They said they did not look at the brakes. I explained the problem again and followed up in a few days, dealer stated no brake issue found. Followed up 2 -3 days later, oh now the brakes have a $1354 repair. I decided to pick it up and get a 2nd opinion. My winch and mount had been stolen oh and the truck won't start. I brought the stolen winch and no start to their attention. The dealer's answer is...." you signed a waiver exempting us from responsibility ". The passing stranger from out of state and and his small kids and wife in the car gave me more help than the dealer. Dealership Misinformed me by leading me to think the Truck (Ford Ranger) I was looking at had "No Accident Reports" and only 1 previous owner. I soon found out that was not the case: Car has a reported accident and has had 2 previous owners. They gave me an appointment but then went back and forth on whether they were going to look at my car. The general manager called me while I was at work. I get to Quick Lane to get tires I ordered for my 2022 Chevrolet Malibu Premier for winter and in my email it shows my exact car my exact tire size my exact name my exact phone number and when they went to check me in they had a 2019 ford edge which I don't own they had that Ford edge under my moms name my mom never would own a ford. They also had the wrong tire size. But in my email from Quick Lane it shows everything correctly. Now I sat there listened to the two girls who were working and they didn't even know my number when they had my number and they didn't know my car and why they had keys to my Chevrolet... They started calling my mom till I started to tell them that it was for me not my mom. Now how does that happen at quick lane?! I purchased a 2019 Dodge Ram on 11/26/22 and paid $895 for the "Rust Proofing". I attempted to have this service refunded because I didn't want to deal with the dealership any more. The sales manager lied to my face on my trade is the reason and can be viewed on the sales department 1 rating ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​on google. My refund was denied as it was part of a binding contract. I brought my truck in for the "Rust Proofing" on 4-14-23 and picked up during my work shift. I noticed gas smell ​​​so I pulled over in the mall lot, and found​​ it was the spray used. At that point I noticed damage and unsecured/wheel well trim and took pictures of it and had to return to work. Sunday when pulling into a parking spot at work I was notified of something dragging under my truck. There is a plastic cover for what appears to be lines or cables? I trimed back the channel as it was too far gone. I called Northstar and they said that they do remove the plastic​​​ panels/covers due to liability... I paid $895 so I wanted it done right. ​​​​How is it rust proof behind the panels? ​​​ They also did not spray inside access holes of my tailgate.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ The service manager said they would not be willing to fix any of the issues which I figured would be the resolution. We purchased a 2015 Flex from NorthStar Ford in 2018. After the purchase we had to bring it in for the rustproofing we had added on. They applied the coating over dirt and gravel that had collected inside the door wells and was then forever sealed to the car. Had several service issues after that when bringing it in for warranty work. Fast forward to 2023 and we are to the point of selling/trading it in on a new vehicle and are informed by another dealership that it basically has a salvage title on it because of an odometer discrepancy that shows on a vehicle report from before we purchased it. It turns out that the vehicle originated in Canada and when it was traded in the US the odometer conversion was done incorrectly, making our vehicle value basically nothing. On our paperwork at the time of purchase, they marked "exact mileage" and NOT the mileage discrepancy box. 5 years and 150,000 miles later, we are left with a valueless vehicle. Beware! read more

I have never been treated so disrespectfully before. I was looking for a vehicle to buy, and was first told that by looking at me I probably could not take out a loan on my own, was then indirectly referred to as a dumb blonde, the car salesman would speak through me to my boyfriend who was looking at cars with me, and none of my questions were ever directly answered, the salesman would beat around the bush. When notifying a manager of the way I was being treated he did not even apologize and instead responded with "oh were you really?". If you are looking for a vehicle in the area and wish to be treated like a human and respected I would strongly recommend visiting any dealership but this one. While in Kansas City a couple of weeks ago, Northstar Ford's General Manager drove his vehicle into our unoccupied vehicle while he was attempting to park. The only right, and honorable thing that he did was to leave a note admitting he damaged our vehicle and left his cell number for us to contact him. After we were able to reach him, he told us that he was a GM for three dealerships in MN, and that he would like for us to get an estimate on the damage and send it to him and he would take care of it personally (he didn't want to go through insurance). We did as he requested, and to our surprise (joking here), he thought that the estimate was too much, and that we needed to get an another estimate. It was at this time that we requested that he send a picture of his drivers license, insurance card, and make, model, year, and color of the vehicle he was driving when the accident occurred (none of which he has ever provided). He refused to do that, again stating that he wasn't going through insurance. So, we again took time out of our schedule to get, and sent him another estimate from another licensed body shop in our area. After receiving the second estimate, he text us that he would reach out to the body shops and see if he could get the cost of repairs cheaper, or we could just agree to a reduced number and he would send us a check. We responded that we were not willing to negotiate a cheaper "agreed upon" price, we had done everything that he had requested, and we would settle for the lesser of the two estimates to put closure to the situation. He refused to do that and text that someone from the body shop would be in contact with us. It was at this point that we again requested/demanded that he send us his drivers license, insurance card, and information about the vehicle that he was driving. We then responded (which we should have done from the very beginning) that it is the law in the state that we live in, and the accident occurred in, that he must provide a valid drivers license and insurance card when involved in an accident, and that if he did not provided the information, we would file a police report and try to get resolution that way. His last response was "I am not interested. Do what u need to do. I tried to do the right thing. We can let our attorneys take over." If you're looking at a vehicle at this dealership, I strongly suggest that you take time to inspect the vehicle for any damage. If any is spotted, take a look at the Carfax (or whatever damage report they provide) and make sure that the damage/repair is in the same location. Dealerships are very good about devaluing your trade if an accident/damage has been reported, yet will go out of their way to make sure that no accidents will report or be disclosed while they own a vehicle. I have been getting oil changes here for years...first it was a Sears place then North Star Ford took it over. Other than oil changes I bought a truck battery from the dealer one time. It was expensive but it is a dealer so that is to be expected. They were fast and good and quite pleasant. My reason for writing this review is my recent experience at the oil change part of the business. I made an appointment for an oil change. When I arrived they told me the appointment was for next week. OK, those things happen. Either the person at the desk making the appointment for me, or myself, could have confirmed date and time so I feel equally responsible for the confusion. What concerned me is how they handled the confusion. A woman behind the desk (not the original person I made the appointment with) seemed to make sure they accepted no responsibility at all for the confusion. She didn't blame me and was polite but was careful with her language to not accept any responsibility for the confusion. There was a lot of her saying things like "I'm not saying who is responsible for this...". There was no apology for the confusion, just evasiveness worthy of a strip mall attorney. The thought entered my mind at that point is if they are so evasive about accepting responsibility for an appointment confusion what would they be like if there were money involved? They quickly went from someone I liked doing business with to another car garage that probably cannot be trusted. Sadly, I will now have to find another place to change my oil. If they try so hard to deny any responsibility on such a small thing how can be trusted on anything? read more

We just bought a Mustang Mach E and love it! We had the best experience there. Mike Thrun was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and to top off the awesome experience, he was so kind with our dogs. We brought them with because we drove 2 hours just to get there. Northstar was the closest dealership to us that had the car we were looking for and was 100% worth the drive. We are so thankful that we had Mike help us with the test drive and the sale, he made the whole experience a great one and we will definitely refer our friends to Mike at Northstar for any future purchases :) read more

This place is a freaking joke. They've had my car for over 3 weeks d*cking me around saying every few days "so sorry just another couple days the warranty is delaying it" when they know I'm about to be kicked out of my apartment as I'm moving to FL and the lease has been up and I'll be homeless in their rental car. I've explained this over and over and the lack of empathy is crazy. They're the ones who sold me a sh*t car and now I pay for it?!?! When I brought my car in they said it needs a full engine tear down, made it sound like it'd be about a week. 2 weeks pass (still no loaner so I walked everywhere and lost my job because I couldn't get to work reliably) Finally they miraculously get a loaner for me. Awesome. Now that I'm about to be homeless with my pets, lost my job, have missed and had to cancel all of my interviews coming up in Florida so who knows when I'll get a job when I finally do get to arrive down there, Over 3 weeks of no income and counting. Hope they don't expect their next 2 payments cause I'm not gonna have it now I'm gonna be trying to take in air and get my head above water financially. I suppose that will put me into default and then they'll wanna repo the car at that point, even though this whole thing is fords fault for selling me a sh*t car. This place is a complete joke. I'll say the office girls seem kind, but they clearly shouldn't be working there because the company is pathetic and I'm sure they could find a much better place to work. A week ago I bought a used VW from here and I wish I hadn't. First, I liked the third car I looked at and wanted to buy it, but the salesman hadn't even told me the price, and of course they don't have it posted on the window sticker. We go inside, the salesman gets some info and disappears, leaving us to sit there for 45 minutes. I finally find him and ask what is going on and he says they're working up the paperwork. When I tell him he hasn't even told me how much the car cost yet his response was "Oh, I thought you saw it online and knew", even though it was the THIRD set of keys he went in to get while we were browsing. I ended up finishing the purchase with a manager after that and didn't even see him again. The second thing I'm very unhappy about is the radio. One of the reasons I chose the model I did was because it had the radio controls on the steering wheel, hands free calling, navigation, etc. But on the test drive the radio wouldn't even turn on. Not a problem, they say. It's been a common problem with these so much so that the OEM radios are on a really long back order, so they're going to install a better aftermarket stereo. I bring it in and they tell me it will be 3-4 hours, so I walk to some nearby stores and kill some time. I go back after 3 and a half hours and tell the guy in their accessories dept that I'm back and will be in the waiting room, so no need to call. He informs me that it's done and he just hasn't had time to get it yet. Silly me assumed that meant he would be going to get it since I was there and went to the waiting area.......for another 45 minutes before he shows back up with my keys. On my way home I try to use the volume controls on the steering wheel and they don't work, I try to use the voice activation button on the steering wheel and it doesn't work. When I get home I try to find the navigation feature, and surprise, there is none! They're closed today, but I'm sure when I call about it on Monday I'll get the same BS runaround. read more

I went in for a quote with my elderly mother. She wanted a new vehicle. They had the the SUV in stock. We were given an interest rate of 7.99% initially. I asked whether Ford had a finance package and told no. Northstar was able to give my mother an interest rate of 2.99% through another lender by the time we left. The following the day, my mother went to another Ford dealership that offered her Ford financing at 1.99% with no down payment. I find this interesting to say the least. Stopped in to look at a truck today, on this occasion the salesman didn't have the pricing on the vehicle we were interested in, so he called his Sales Manager to confirm. He quoted us $51000 without a plow and $54000 with the plow. We agreed that we were interested and began to work the deal. In walks the Manager, who presents the trade value and purchase price....$10000 higher than quoted. When I pointed out the misquote, the Manager became defensive, as did I. The sales guy excused himself from the conversation, and the manager and I continued to debate. Long story short, in the end the deal fell apart but the Sales Manager did try to save it. Overall, I'm not impressed with the Sales tactics or presentation of this facility but they did try to save the deal, and at least attempted to negotiate. I would not recommend them, but I may give them another chance in the future. Not sure on that yet. read more

I have bought 2 vehicles from this place. The first experience was ok. However, the second has been just terrible. I bought my Bronco Big Bend in May of 2021. I have yet to receive the plates I paid for ($550.00) and it is end of Sept. 2021. I live in Alaska so I wanted the car to be registered and licensed in Alaska. I told them they would need to send the information to AK right away because it does take a while. They did not. I have called them several times and they then call Alaska and find out the DMV there is behind and working on Junes paperwork- meaning my information was not submitted until later in June. I was also told by the sale person that a block heater is included in the package- well it is not and now that it is getting cold, I find no block heater. I currently live remote and my daughter has the car in Fairbanks. I will now have to pay to have a block heater installed and she is going to the Alaska DMV to see if she can get plates which will cost me I am sure another 550 bucks. I will never buy a car from NorthStar Ford again. read more

Brought in 2006 Expedition for purpose of checking unusual ticking noise from engine and to fix a minor issue with rear ventilation before major road trip. Ended up giving them over $2200 for scheduled maintenance and 2 new tires. Car has less than 95k miles on it and has been properly maintained. After service I drove the car less than 50 miles and within 5 days the engine had a catastrophic failure upon start up. No joke. Was told by Carlos the service rep that the ticking noise is normal and nothing to worry about. Still mad at myself for taking this car to them. Ask anyone and you will get similar horror stories. Not sure why they have a maintenance department if the engine fails within a week after service. Worst part is that no one there even cares. Oh well.... read more

Horrific, uncaring customer service. An embarrassment to the Ford name. Buy a Chevy or get your Ford serviced elsewhere. We were passing through with scouts on a winter trip when our vehicle's check engine light came on. We were over 800 miles from home. We stopped hoping we could get a quick check out with the computer given our need to get to our destination and he fact we were transporting a group of kids. The service staff could not care less about or predicament and was rude. They refused to help in any constructive way. Their best solution was for us to wait 6 hours for someone to do a diagnostic. We left without getting the vehicle checked and luckily made it to our destination without incident. I honestly got the feeling the service person was hoping we would get stranded. I understand people are busy but it doesn't take much to do a diagnostic for people on the road. These are not people to rely on. read more

They are a SCAM! Their manager Heather Knott is TERRIBLE and so are their repairmen. They told me I needed new rear brakes which cost me nearly $300. This ended up never fixing my problem, so I went back in and they told me that they made a mistake and it was actually my tires that were the issue. They never apologized and they never refunded me my $300 which was absolutely pointless of me to pay for. They even let us rent the vehicle we eventually purchased when there was an issue with financing that prevented the deal from going through that day (It was an issue that was easily corrected but couldn't be fixed until the next day). No stars needed... can stars go negative?! This site makes you pick at least 1 star but shouldn't. We SCHEDULED an appointment to test drive a specific vehicle we'd found online and were told to ask for the manager when we arrived. I had communicated that we were interested in this SPECIFIC car and confirmed that the car was available- I'd also corrected my phone number TWICE w/their online sales person. Upon arrival, the staff new nothing about the appointment and placed us with an available salesman. We were told the car was NOT in their inventory and had been sent to auction. I demanded to speak w/a manager who told us, "you don't want that car." When asked why no one had contacted me when it was realized the car wasn't there, they said someone called and left a message approximately 2 hours prior to appointment. There was no call and no message received. They tried to interest us in other vehicles and refused to see the problem with their ways. It was my son's 18th birthday- he'd emptied his savings for a down payment and had cleaned out his current truck for trade. It was an extremely disappointing experience and I walked away while the manager was pleading his case. My husband and son were still sitting/listening when the manager said, "I don't want to do business with you if you're going to be like this." Can I ask why, 9 days later, the car is still listed on their website??? The old bait and switch-- It's obvious it's simply a ploy to get you in the door and it should be illegal. This type of practice is exactly why car dealerships and salesmen have the reputation they do- they're slimy, sleazeballs who'll do anything for a sale. WORST dealership I have ever been to. BUYERS BEWARE.. Purchased a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI on July 11th. I had them put a new wheel on it due to there being curb rash on one of the rims. (Front drivers side to be exact.) Drove it home and it was shaking pretty bad at 70+ MPH. I brought the car to my mechanic thinking it had to be balanced because new wheel and it wasn't shaking much when I test drove it, I figured maybe it just didn't get balanced. My mechanic showed me that all 4 tires were weather worn, cupped on the inside tread, and the rear passenger side tire was actually separating from the rim. NOW you would think this would've been noticed by the techs at the shop when the car was on the lift getting the new wheel put on but apparently not. I did not see this because the inside tread is covered by the fenders, but when the vehicle is on a lift its very noticeable. Keep in mind they were informed of this within 2-3 weeks of me purchasing the car. I took the car back to my mechanic to have new tires put on and he informed me that ALL 4 RIMS WERE BENT.
