This is mainly because the manager of the property, Mel, sets the highest standard for what a property manager/landlord should be. He was always readily available if we ever needed to contact him. We didn't know what we were doing when we were considering renting out our home. Mel made recommendations on what we should fix and things we should consider if we plan on maintaining our home as an investment property. He is in a unique situation where he understands the landlord and tenant's needs. With that being said, he was instrumental to getting our home prepared for rental and found us a reliable tenant (and I'm sure our current tenant must feel the same!). We didn't pay anything additional for having him delegate the repairs and "renovations". There is a percentage we pay every month to have him check in with the tenants and etc., but it is well worth the price (especially if you are working long hours and don't have a lot of free time). We lived in one of Mel's properties for roughly 5 1/2 years and were extremely happy to move in and call that house home. Mel was very responsive to all our needs and extremely accommodating. Example: ( My husband travels a lot for work and I've locked myself out of the house twice within the time we have lived there. Mel went above and beyond to ensure I received a spare key to get inside the house). Jimmy (handy man) was always there to give a helping hand with whatever we needed as well. Mel and his team had recently updated the entire house right before we moved in and it felt like a dream :) It saddens us to move on and leave all of our wonderful memories and growth created behind on Melrose but we could not recommend them enough. I've had a really great experience with NorthStar so far. I just moved into my new place that is managed by Mel. He is warm, professional, and really accommodating. He checks up to make sure everything is growing well with the property. He responds very quickly to any questions or concerns we might have. They repainted the interior and exterior and replaced the kitchen and bathroom flooring before we moved in. We even requested a few repairs before we moved in and Mel made sure those request were accommodated. The property is super cozy and the location is great. I can not even begin to express my gratitude that I stumbled across North Star. Last week I had succumbed to the fact that I was a 30 year old woman who would probably live with roommates for a long time. Finding listings online and then finding crappy property managers was so common. Also finding listings in my price range was not common at all. And with a stroke of luck I found a great, fair property manager and an amazing place within my price range. Mel was very easy to communicate with, made me feel comfortable and hopeful through the application process, and is very friendly and helpful. The unit I got is a beautiful, peaceful oasis and I can not thank Mel and North star enough for such an amazing oppourtunity. The unit is something I never in a million years thought I'd find, everything I've looked at in the last year has been crap. I would highly recommend renting from North Star! I've been a tenant at one of Mel's property since 2011 and he's one of the nicest and most optimistic people you will ever meet! Whenever I needed anything, I would reach out to Mel or Jimmy, who takes care of all the maintenance issues, and both were always responsive, professional, and understanding. They've never complained about my maintenance requests or made me feel guilty for making the request. Mel even made himself available when he was local (and sick, too!) and I was in a bind - not all landlords will do this! The unit I rented was in excellent condition when I first moved in. There was none of the beige painted walls or carpets, which was nice. The neighbors at my complex were all very friendly and respected one another's belongings, which meant that Mel does a great job filtering out who he rents the properties to - so nice! I would've continued my stay at North Star's properties, but I have moved to an area where Mel did not have any available units to rent at the moment. It was difficult for me to want to move and it makes me sad to leave because I really enjoyed my stay here, but my commute to work was brutal. When I moved in, there hadn't been anyone living there for quite some time, so I noticed a variety of things that needed repaired.
