I went there for 60000 mile service. They did an oil change and suggested I do brakes for a quote of $1750. I took my car to a brake place and they did the suggested service for $830. They also wanted to replace my air filter and cabin air filter for $145. I did that myself for $47. I had NW Auto work on my car back in april of 23' they did a safety check along with fixing my car... on my billing invoice under comments they stated; replace my steering rack and outer tie rods and alignment replace my front /lower control arms this came to a total of $2630.00.....i declained at the time and i thought i'd get a 2nd oppinion.....so i went to a well know Tire store that also did front end suspension work........the cost to fix my front end base on what NW auto stated was ..0.00 ZERO Goose eggs ...... THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY FRONT END SUSPENSION PERIOD....... i just want everyone to know to always get a 2nd opinion .... you have to be carefull of ripoff outfits like this one......i will never use this outfit ever again i think you should steer clear of this place and always get a 2nd opinion there are outfits like this one out to rip you off......smh...... read more

We took a ford transit here for a pre purchase inspection. We were buying from a used car dealer. I was able to schedule an appointment and they said it would take about 4 hours because they like to do a very thorough examination and it would cost about $300. Let me tell you... they were so thorough. It's not easy telling people bad news for a car they were potentially going to purchase but they were so professional and showed us all the issues with the van. Turns out there was oil in the coolant. Huge issue and actually a dead end for us. We knew we wouldn't purchase the car after that news. The employee was able to give us a run down of how much it would cost and give his honest opinion on what we should do. We aren't car people so we are so grateful for his opinion. We took the car back to the dealer and told them the issues and they said they had no clue and would probably just place the car for auction. Seems like they might've known which is frustrating. But thanks to the employee at northwest auto we now know what to superficially look at from our car search from now on out. He shared a lot of good tips for future searches. Get the feeling this is an honest shop with a good crew with fair rates and does not push for things you don't need, but give recommendations and suggestions on maintenance and prevention of future repairs. The shop manager takes his time with each person and really explains everything in detail and even will go out to the car and point out each little thing that was fixed and why. This is great but sometimes means that you need to put your patient hat on if you're not the person he's helping at that exact minute. Don't come here in a rush. I have spent about 2,000 dollars here in the last month. YIKES! I am hoping that I won't have to go back to this place anytime soon. The cost isn't their fault... I think that you get what you pay for. I wish it was cheaper to own a car and I wish that there was a way to be car-less in Seattle but the public transportation system isn't high enough. The Lake City Bus routes make it relatively painless to get here although I heard that the hours are changing so they won't be open so late in the evening... this will make it MUCH more difficult for me to come here after work to pick up my car. read more

My airbag cable under the seat got cut and I took it into SODO Toyota first where we had bought it new, only 3 years ago. SODO Toyota quoted us $6000 for a simple wire solder fix because they wanted to replace the entire unit. We came into NW Auto at the recommendation of a friend, and Holy crow did they save the day. Quoted $150 for the repair, and that's what we paid. Incidentally, we also apparently had run over a screw and our tire was leaking air. (smh just our luck, right?) We were hopeful that the tire could be repaired but prepared for the possibility of buying a new one. NW Auto happily patched it up for us and installed it back. We ended up paying ~$200 for the entire thing. If a new tire was $150, they saved us $5950. Thank you. read more

I needed to get a battery looked at under warranty. Raoul was one of the few people listed on the battery company's site that was willing to look at the battery even though he hadn't sold it to me. NW Automotive is also that rare shop that got work done in exactly the amount of time they quoted. And the really crazy part? My battery was mostly ok, but they knocked some corrosion off of it (which another shop had failed to do) and for all that, they didn't charge me a cent in labor. These are my usual mechanic and I'm always happy with the service and patience there. I don't know anything about cars so I need extra help to understand when there's a problem. I felt moved by their kindness today (which is actually pretty typical and I should have done this earlier) and felt inspired to make a review. Just got my oil changed with a safety inspection. I had a small problem with my grill which they called to ask if I wanted fixed. They were honest and admitted it was good to have done but mostly cosmetic and quoted the price. When I picked up my car they had done the grill fix for free, which was already pretty great. The real highlight of the experience for me today was this: I'm high risk and pretty scared of COVID so I was hanging out in the doorway the entire time like a bit of a weirdo but the person at the desk was very kind and just brought everything I needed over to me so I didn't have to come all the way in. They even put my credit card and car keys in an antiseptic style wipe when they handed them over. Thanks! read more

I wonder if these people are tired of NOT getting my service (keep that in mind when considering my rating). One time I had an appointment set up for an oil change, but then someone gave me a coupon for jiffy lube. Which then brings me to the next experience. Now the people here seem really friendly, but not entirely sociable. I brought my car in to get an estimate/repair on my driver side mirror and people were this way and that, looking at the car, running in/out of the garage, without really talking to me or looking at me. Then I was told I'd be called back. Well, "when" I asked? Anyway, I called another place and got an estimate that sounded reasonable (as this is a repair, for some reason, I have to have often!). NW hadn't called me back yet, so when I called and told them to compare an estimate, they said they hadn't found anything yet, but that the price I was offered at the other place was really good! Good to know, and on top of that, the other place found the part and gave me an estimate immediately, and I did not even have to bring the car in (for the estimate, of course. They aren't going to come to my apt. to fix it! Wish they would!). read more

I'm going to start by saying this is one of those shops that will try to rob someone who isnt car savy. My girlfriend had a vibration coming from the rear end of her 2017 Honda civic when she pressed the brake pedal. (Immediately assuming its just warped rotors) I called northwest automotive to get an estimate for turning the rotors and installing new brake pads.(I would have done the job myself but I'm constantly out of town for work) They were booked up for two weeks so I took that as a good sign that people were fighting to get in there. Eventually my girlfriend took the car in for them to diagnose the issue. They came back saying that there was so much rust on the hub that the calipers would need to be replaced/rebuilt. Me being car savy and having done MULTIPLE brake jobs on all kinds of different cars, called bullshit. The hub and caliper are completely separate and it just didnt make sense to me. Their total quote came in at around 2100 dollars. After I got home I went to o'Reilly's, got the parts, rented a caliper tool, and did the job for under 150 dollars.. all vibration is gone.. these sick people tried to take advantage of my girlfriend with fear tactics and throwing out garbage reasons why she needed to spend 2100 dollars on a brake job. Thiefs at their finest. Attached is a picture of the "overly rusted hub" that would be cause for a caliper rebuild/replacement. Absolutely shameful. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

I have been taking my car to NW Automotive for years and it's not just because it's five minutes from my apt. It's because I have never had a bad experience with them. Even recently when a part they put in last year began to malfunction they quickly made it right, even though it meant paying for another shop (where I had stopped because the car could not be safely driven) to do the labor and providing the replacement part. (The other shop said the flaw was in the manufacture, not something NW missed) I almost always have to pay in installments, so I am also grateful for their willingness to be flexible about that. I've been around a long time and have had my fair share of car repairs. NW Automotive is my fav. They have gone above and beyond on a number of occasions. Not only that, they were recommended to me by another mechanic. My '98 Mercedes C280 is having a number of cosmetic issues in addition to regular maintenance. The gas cap lock sticks (used to), the passenger door lock popped out (did), and trunk lost it's...juice? and would free fall and slam shut. Can you say, watch your fingers/head? Doug and Raoul 'hooked a sistah up!" at little or no cost. The really big issue was no working windshield wiper. From all my research, a $1000 idea. Doug said, "let us look at". "Nah, windshield wipers are for wimps", I said. "My Rainx and I are doing okay." He asked me 3 times before I reluctantly agreed. Less than $200 later, I'm whole again. I've been going to NW Automotive for about 4 years. As a women, I've often dealt with inflated bills at other shops for items that I did not order - I have never had to deal with that here. I have a trusty 2000 Corolla, and it rarely has problems - unless I take it somewhere else, and suddenly there is a litany of issues to resolve. I cannot count how may times I have called AAA for a flat bed to bring my beloved to Raoul. They took two months to diagnose, find scarce parts, and fix my problem(s).\ The car feels very strong and powerful. With 85,637 miles this chrome beauty will outlive me. I wrote a review that explained everything that happened, and it was removed for reasons not given to me. In short, they quoted me $49 to look at my car, and said they would let me know what it would cost beyond that. They ended up charging me $650 when I came to pick up my car. I said I wanted to do a tuneup (when they called me 3 days after the car was supposed to be done), assuming it would be more, but the price was never discussed. Later when I went to pickup the car, they insisted they told me it would be $449, but this is STILL $200 off. Even if you added the two prices up, they still overcharged me by about $150. Plus, they tried to sneak in a $80 charge for fuel additive (which they left in the car, unopened), which I never would have wanted. I looked at the (expired) bottle of additive up online, and it costs $3. They were snarky and mean, too, and I basically got the impression that they thought I knew nothing about cars. read more

Northwest Automotive is what you dream an auto repair shop would be. I went in with a rattle on my ford that two different service departments at Ford dealerships could not diagnose : one wanted me to pay for repairs that hadn't fixed my problem and the other just advised me to keep driving until it got worse. It was tricky to fix and it tool Northwest automotive several attempts to find what was wrong. But they didn't want me to pay for parts or labor that they put into the car but didn't fix the problem. They saw it as an opportunity to learn. They fixed my car when I thought nobody could and kept me informed all along. The price was competitive, the service outstanding. One of the best service I have received from a garage. I've been taking my car here for a couple of years. On average, I drive approximately 3,000 miles every 2 months commuting to and from work. So I spend a lot of money making sure my car runs well. I think what made me decide to write a review was during my most recent visit. I had taken my car in for it's 150K tune up and oil change. There was a noise resonating from the wheel well area and they had diagnosed it to be a wheel bearing issue. So I dropped it off for the day expecting to pay hundreds of dollars when I pick it up. They called me towards the end of the business day. I came by and Raol asked that I could drive it down the street to check and see if the issue has been resolved. Well the sound was there and in fact, we had decided it was just really loud tire noise. The car runs fine, I apparently have new wheel bearings and he did not charge me for anything! I think that kind of honestly is hard to find anywhere these days. He could've told me that the problem was fixed and charged me at least $500 for a problem that wasn't there. Instead, they ate the cost of the parts and labor. This has instilled trust in my relationship with them, which is very important to me. And with my high maintenance driving needs, they will certainly have a loyal customer in me. read more

Wow, what happened to this place. Northwest used to be a go-to place to fix anything -- could even deal with Raoul's pretty consistent (and obvious) habit of padding the bill, so long as he fixed the actual issue. Because typically he would, and fairly reliably. But I guess all that's changed, huh. The brakes went out on my car, so of course I brought it in for what would hopefully be a swift and reasonable repair. Guess I was wrong on both accounts: Long story short, these guys destroyed my car -- and at what a cost, too! But let me elaborate. The night I picked it up for the brakes, I could tell something was off about the repair; the car had these horrid squealing rotating sounds, not what one would expect from a fresh set of brakes breaking in. Then the next morning on the way to work, the alternator goes out -- that could just be coincidence, but who knows. I pick the car up that night for the alternator, asked them to double-check the brakes -- was assured they were just fine. Settling up I notice some additional padding on the bill for the alternator -- despite a "discount" on labor for the "coincidence" with the brakes -- but after forking over what I did for the brakes the night before, I just wanted to get on my way. (The alternator blew out twice subsequently, by the way -- had to have it repaired elsewhere.) Fast forward a few weeks, those double-checked brakes blow out on me; nearly caused a couple of accidents too, even with my defensive driving. Their company head, Doug, tries to make it all up, has one of their other shops redo the brakes -- seems alright for a couple of months, but then indeed their after-market solution totally failed (again). They even rewired some of the car -- although, all that did was short out the other half of the electrical system (yippee). The ownership could respond here saying they tried to work with me on their gratis repairs, etc -- granted even the extent they went 'above & beyond' on some of those subsequent repairs is plenty suspicious in and of itself. But it doesn't change the fact that what they did do subsequently couldn't fix the fault in their initial repair work. Just had to sell the car off for scrap metal -- literally -- thanks to what these guys did. If you value yourself, and your car, find another mechanic -- the same thing could happen to you. This is apparently how they value years of service -- by gouging customers, endangering lives, etc, etc. read more
