TLDR: Exceptional brake service and outstanding customer experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Our brakes went out 400 miles from home. We called everywhere, went everywhere. No one has the parts for our 80-series 1990 Land Cruiser. The specialty brakes shop sent us to Hazael! Initially, they told us the same thing everyone else did. We were SOL. Luckily the gentleman with the longer hair took mercy on us and he spent ALL DAY driving to shops and literally opening boxes of brake pads trying to find one that would match ours. With some grinding and true know-how, these guys got us on the road again safely! This is where experience, skill, and ingenuity are key. And that's what you need in a mechanic, no matter your car's dilemma. They did not have to go to the extreme lengths that they went to (and do same day service!). But...they did! Shady. I came in for a simple request: to remove a sheared bolt from my exhaust because I didn't have the tools. I was told by the owner I would receive a phone call with an estimate BEFORE any work was done. When my phone rang, I was told the work was done and the charge would be $120 since it took an hour. An hour to lift my car, weld a nut, and remove the bolt. Either the mechanic was incompetent or they inflated the price. They will never get any future business from me. read more

Before I found Juan, I had a hell of a time finding anyone that would work on my 1990 ford ranger because it's an old model. The one other mechanic I did find that would work on it had weeks long waits to even look at the car, would then charge for a diagnostic, was expensive and took a long time. Ever since I found Juan though, things have been great. He's been my go-to for brake & brake line replacement, entire exhaust system replacement, valve gasket cover, rear intake manifold gasket, roof leaks, & more. Every time I've had an issue, he's been able to look at the car the same day, and I've had it back within 1 - 2 days. He calls to explain the issue and provides an estimate before he proceeds (usually). And without exception, the price has always been orders of magnitude lower than anywhere else in town. I get the sense that the just don't make guys like this anymore. My only reluctance in leaving this review is that maybe more people will discover how great he is and then he'll be harder to book, but he deserves it! read more

What do you look for in a mechanic? Honesty - Juan said he would charge me less if I can pay cash. I went there to pay cash but he told me he quoted me incorrectly. I only brought the amount he asked for but then he decided to charge the regular price to make up for his mistake. Clarity- Juan said that he would let me know if the price for the service would be "high". What is high? Who knows. So apparently $640 is not high enough for Juan neither is $220. Communication - Juan will never call you back. Even though he says he will. Just "give him a minute". The 7 times I called him he had said that he'll call me back when he's not busy. He never does. I had to drop by his shop 2 times for him to address my concerns. Fast service - Juan and his staff took 4 days to replace my catalytic converter. Then a week later check engine light came on again. It took him 6 days to replace my fuel pressure sensor. Grand total of 10 days for a check engine light. This is by far the longest my car has been in a shop. And I had a fender bender where we had to replace the engine. Is this the mechanic you want? I would never come here again. read more

Haezel's is great. This is a classic old auto yard, parts everywhere, no shiny logo. This is a place for those who don't mind knowing how the sausage is made and want a real oil-stained mechanic. Juan took the time to explain everything that he found, fixed it at a great price and when I came to pick the car up he wanted to show me exactly what he did, and make sure I understood the basics of how the parts worked. He also I recommended coming back in a month or two for a flush (I had some serious contamination going on) Reminds me of a typical small town mechanic that you might have known growing up. Worst auto experience ever. Came in on Tuesday to get a quote, was told 3 hours of work for $360 to install a radiator fan and oil pan if I brought my own parts. Scheduled for Thursday, dropped it off at 9am. Didn't receive it back until 5:30pm with a new price of $640. Even though they had my car sitting there all day, somehow it took an extra hour to complete, plus adding in an oil pan gasket, "New" oil (even though i just got an oil change a week ago), and a "new" filter. When I checked in at 3pm to get an update I was only told about the gasket being $20, never mentioning the oil, filter, or extra work. When I got my new price of $640 they tried to say the gasket was $40. They NEVER once mentioned the new oil or filter, or the extra hour of work. They knew we're on BS because magically it went down to $500. After 30 minutes of arguing about their miscommunication and clear exploitation I paid it and left. No frills and no need for any. Just some down to Earth people who keep good conversation and do a great job explaining the process to you. I know very little about cars and he very helpfully guided me through the process and what was going to happen. The only downside is there's not really anywhere to wait while the work is being done but there's lots of restaurants and stores nearby to kill time in. Slightly more expensive than I thought it would be but I have a brand new car so that might explain it. Still giving it 5 stars since most of this is super nit-picky! Check them out! read more

Key attributes: Honest, fair, high-quality work, competitive price (especially compared to dealer), warrantied, and they go the extra to make their customers happy. I have been here twice for intricate electrical work, radiator eval and change, new serpentine belt, and other comparably expensive work for my VW and BMW. Juan and his crew are the best auto care team in Seattle. They worked on my catalytic converter, window regulator and air conditioners. It's all working incredibly well. I want to recommend Hazael Auto Care for anyone who needs auto repair/body work done on their car. They are located behind the Burgermaster on Aurora Ave N. I heard good reviews about Hazael's through word of mouth. The first time I took my car there was in June 2012, when my car was struck and had body damage. The other party paid for my repairs, and the prices were the most inexpensive you will ever find around the Seattle area. All the other places wanted about $1,300, but Hazael's only charge $350 for the body repair. The service was excellent and the employees there pay great attention to detail to their work. Then in July 2012, I had to take my car back to Hazael's for an un-related problem. This time, it was my driver's side window when I open and close. The owner, Juan Martinez, fixed my window problem in one hour and afterwards, refused to accept any payments. I had to insist he accept my gift of $40 for his time and work. For anyone who needs auto repair work/body work on their car, I highly recommend taking your car to Hazael Auto Care. The prices are extremely unbeatable, the work is precise, the employees are extremely hard working, customers are made to feel at home, and English and Spanish are spoken here. read more

Hazel's is what we all wish automotive shops would be: honest, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. I had a blown head gasket on a v6. Dealer quoted me 5000.00 dollars not inclusive of additional needed parts. Juan got me out the door with a new radiator, water pump, complete top end including shaving the heads, and all labor, for 3000.00. I've been driving the car for over a year and it still runs perfectly. Juan took the time to explain everything that his mechanics did to the vehicle. I found Hazael when I needed an affordable body repair for my 19 year old Lexus SC300 after an SUV backed into it. Another shop that does a lot of insurance repairs quoted $3100, which was slightly less than the market value of the car. Juan Martinez, owner of Hazael, quoted $1200. He won the job. His team did great work, better than I expected, including finding a couple uncommon parts, which probably took much longer than he had planned to spend. The only downsides here are that it can be challenging to communicate complex concepts with Juan over the phone, owing to language limitations (and requiring a visit to resolve), and the shop is not a beautiful place to visit. But the work is high-quality, and the customer service ethic is strong. They even repainted the mirror housings that had faded, which had not been part of the damage I needed to have fixed. The shop is across the street from a Rapid Ride E bus stop, so it's easy to get to. I'm a happy customer in an industry where customer satisfaction is not all that common, at any price.
