I am a very happy customer of Northwest Crawl Space Repair. They offer mold removal, encapsulation, insultation, waterproofing, draining system, and structural repair. If you have concerns about mold or water damage in your home, please read this review. The information can save money...and also our health! I am not a family member or relative...just a very happy customer who wants to share this information to help others to get the protection they deserve. We needed mold remediation. In order to find the best company for the job, I called and interviewed the mold remediation companies in our area, and had some come out for an inspection and quote. After checking out the companies, Northwest Crawl Space Repair went far beyond any of the companies that I interviewed...while being comparable in price. The first thing that they did was to see if the crawl space had a water drainage system to avoid water standing in the crawl space. None of the other companies even mentioned a drainage system. Without a drainage system in place, water can sit there and cause more problems with mold. It was important to find a company that actually removed the mold. The other companies were only "killing" the mold, and NOT removing it! I found out that dead mold still produces mycotoxins, which can be very harmful to our health. Northwest Crawl Space repair was the company that actually went through ALL of the wood in the crawl space (sub-floor, floor joists, and rim joists) and removed the mold with a Hepa vacuum. That was labor intensive for them, but was a necessary step to get rid of the mold, and the problem. Their cost was comparable to the others who were not removing the mold. Their team is great. Jose is the Team Leader. He was very thorough, and made the process run very smoothly. The team was knowledgeable about the correct way to remove mold in order to avoid putting spores into the air. They worked hard and were very pleasant. They really care about their clients. They took pictures each day and Michael's wife, Stefanie, sent an e-mail so that we can keep updated on their progress. That was a real treat! Michael Pickart, the owner of Northwest Crawl Space Repair, is so far ahead of the other companies that I spoke with. I couldn't figure out why Michael knew so much. I then found out that he has extensive training in the field, which you can see below from his website. Let me begin this review by disclosing that I did not know of Michael Pickart or his company before I hired him to encapsulate my crawl space. Also, this review is being submitted just two days after the job was completed so I have yet to see the long term end product. I'm waiting for several days of spring rain/snow melt to see the true results. I don't have any reasons for concern as of this review. I'm typically a DIY'er but after researching the job myself, getting two previous estimates and opinions and weighing the pros/cons I decided that I'd leave this to a professional. I was frustrated that I could only find two companies that would come out to give me an estimate. I called companies in the Chicago suburbs and in SW Michigan but they were unwilling to travel to Valparaiso. I called a company in central Indiana to see if they serviced Valparaiso and they did not but referred me to Michal Pickart. Michael told me that he was just starting his waterproofing business although he was very experienced in the work. He was quick to respond when I wanted to set up a time for him to inspect my crawl space and when he arrived he walked me through his thought process and gave his suggestions. His inspection was in-depth and I felt confident that he really knew this type of work. When I asked for references and proof of his company's insurance he was quick to forward me a list and I received proof from his insurance agent directly. I have a 1,000 SqFt 36" tall dirt crawl space with several HVAC runs. Michael & his crew trenched and installed drain tile around the perimeter, filled in my old pump pit and relocated the new sump pit, pump and discharge. The discharge was installed underground and flush with the yard, hidden from view. The crawlspace vents were also sealed off. As a courtesy, the crew pinned low hanging wires and cables to clean up the look. It was an unnecessary an unexpected gesture on their part but appreciated. When it's necessary for me to hire a contractor for any work I like when the business owner is partaking in doing the work themselves, when they are getting their hands dirty and not just sending their employees to complete the work on their behalf. This played a part in my decision to go with Northwest Crawl Space Repair. Michael and his wife were easy to chat with when necessary. He knows this work and isn't just pretending but the real test will come after several days of hard rain. I expect to update this review sometime in June or July. If you need waterproofing work done then you know this is expensive work. Michael was competitive but fair. I am an actual customer and this is an unbiased positive review. From start to finish, this was one of the most positive experiences with home repair. After noticing I had moisture issues with occasional standing water and significant sagging in my walls and floors, I knew this was a job that I could not tackle on my own. Northwest Crawl Space stood out as the obvious choice based on knowledgeably, work ethic, and simply the results. Michael not only did a very thorough survey, but took the time to answer any and all questions with complete confidence and took the time to explain the details (and benefits) of what was proposed. I was in need of crawlspace repair and contacted 7 different companies, yes, 7!! Only 4 called me back. 1 said they didn't have any availability to come out for a quote, and 2 of them were not only booked out to the end of the year, but their price quotes were outrageous!! We moved into a house that was almost "all original" from 1976 Including the crawlspace that was all mud a pit by the entrance and we simply plugged in the sump pump when it rained. Having never had a crawlspace before I assumed all of this was normal. Until we had 11 inches of water in the crawlspace. Sump pump had Finally given up the ghost. I would highly recommend Northwest Crawl Space Repair for your repairs and/or renovations. They were great with communications and followed Through with timeframes and contract obligations. There was no high pressure sales and I felt comfortable hiring them. They hand dug trenches in my crawlspace and ran perimeter tile into two new sump pits. They HEPA vacuumed the entire crawl and sprayed all wood and cleaned all the debris out. They encapsulated the entire floor and walls and spray foamed the box sills. I joke with my family that It looks like a surgical facility down there now instead of a swamp. Very professional company and the guys cleaned up after themselves every day. Love this company! Between Mike, Stephanie and their group of employees you will not find a weak link. They are all very honest, helpful and will go above and beyond what anybody would expect to help someone out. They encapsulated our crawlspace in late Feb. 2020 and did mold remediation for us. They did everything thoroughly and them some. The difference is amazing. We are breathing better and the house is holding heat noticeably better. These guys are the best! They not only did a great job and took care of the moisture/water in our crawl space, but they are very nice and easy to work with. They cleaned up every afternoon before they left to the point that you wouldn't even know work was being done. At times it can be a little uncomfortable to have strangers working in your home, but I never felt that way with them. My indoor cat got out one of the days they were working and Michael, the owner, spent about 30 minutes walking my neighborhood helping to look for her. It ended up she was hiding in the crawl space and the guys down there were super gentle in getting her out and returning her to me.
