After telling them no thanks, we received a call from the owner(?) rudely asking why we said no to their "very reasonable estimate." We were quoted $550. The worker , Troy was very nice and very helpful. He wanted to fix it right then, but I had to wait for insurance OK with wall and such. Sadly we will have to find a new plumber. To have a plumber come out to look at a storm drain and have no knowledge of what to do, fix nothing and charge us 200 dollars while telling us to call someone else. We have been loyal customers for years. Maybe work with us or at least not be rude over the phone. Especially for a long time customer that has always recommended you and probably made you a ton of money on that alone. It boggles my mind that your guys couldn't figure this one out and offered no help whatsoever. Says a lot. Not to mention telling your guys to stay till we pay. "My guys won't leave till you pay." We called Sargent's Plumbing for our beach house rental that had a broken garbage disposal and a dripping shower head and we live out of town. They came out as promised however tried to charge us $750.00 for installing a $139.00 new garbage disposal and a $65.00 shower head cartridge. He said he had to use a special tool to pull the cartridge out (cost of item was $12.50) I asked for a breakdown of parts and labor and Steve became very agitated, rude and refused to justify the cost of $750.00 which is outrageous. Meanwhile I am googling the cost of these products and know what this visit should have cost. All Steve did was argue that he doesn't charge by cost of repair item and labor, he charges what he thinks his service is worth. Beware of having his company come out to fix anything, before you get an estimate. We ended up negotiating for a lower price but was still way overboard. read more

I recently called Sargent's when my toilet stopped flushing properly and they send a very nice gentleman (Art) out the same day! He had to go out twice to buy parts but wound up replacing all the stuff inside the tank, the handle and also the outer piping to the water supply, all within a couple of hours, and now it works perfectly! Our regular plumbing company had no one available within the next couple of weeks. So we explored alternatives. Our neighborhood application recommended Sargent's Plumbing. The owner answered the phone and we got an appointment for the day after I called - two guys were here right at 9:05 am for an appointment window between 9am and 1pm. They figured out solutions for our plumbing problems, made a quick trip to get needed parts, installed them, and were done and gone before noon. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Promises, promises. They were supposed to be here at 9 AM, I called them at 9:20, they told me I was mis informed about the time, OK! They then said within 15 minutes. After getting a call from the "technician" at 9:26, he said 15 minutes. My sister called me at 9:45 and indicated that they went to the wrong address in their development and would be here in a couple of minutes. Its now 10:10 and they showed up. I had this company come out to give me a quote, they gave me a fair price, and I felt good about the young man that came out. I called to ask if they could come and do the job? the following day they were out at our place at the time they had said, Thomas, who worked on our sink, which was new to be installed, he explained what he was going to be doing and he was very clean and did a wonderful job!!! he took his time, but did an excellent job!!! This business will not last. I requested they disconnect kitchen plumbing in preparation for new countertops. They did the installation of a new garbage disposal a few years earlier. They finished the job (2 people - 1 just watched) in 30 minutes. The charge was $250. The website cited there was no service charge. I called the owner, Steve and his response was it was really difficult running a business today. No apologies for outrageous pricing ($500 an hour). He had the nerve to ask me if I ever ran a business. I did run a business for 20 years and if I had treated my customers the way Steve did, my business would not have lasted for one year. I called Sargent's Plumbing this morning because I noticed water at the bottom of my toilet... long story short I had to get a new toilet. They were so efficient and cleaned up any mess. I would not recommend this outfit for your plumbing needs. I used Steve the owner back in 2014 to replace a water heater that cost me $925. I used him recently and he price gouged me at $2000 for the same identical job including brand of tank. Yes, tanks have gone up but this is outrageous and the 2 techs were only here for 2 hrs. I priced around and the MAX for this job would have been $1400. To top it off, he wanted to charge me to use my credit card when the job was already inflated. Unbelievable. I have used them several times. They actually get back to you and get the work done quickly. My toilet was running due to a part with a broken valve. They replaced the part which is 9.99 on Amazon so probably about 20 and Ace. I was charged $225. When I called a real person answered the phone! A++ first impressions! Even spoke to the owner Steve who was VERY professional with me even after a minor hiccup due to my landlord (Landlord is cool but a little odd at times). After touching base with my landlord everything was set...They could not make it to my place that evening but first thing in the morning they came right over and worked hard in 80 degree weather even having to dig a bit to fix the issue. I agree with the comments about wasting your time and charging $125 to come out to tell you what he thinks the problem is. Let's say he goes out to 5 potential clients a day at $125 per call, that's $625 a day, but he does not like to get dirty. So if he works 4 days a week and charges $125 for nothing, he makes $2500 a week. Great gig if you can get it. The owner of Sargent's will arrogantly tell you what the issue is, but would need to get a part. Will come back a couple of days later to tell you that what he thought was the issue is something else entirely. Per his stated area of expertise "been doing furnaces for years," I would say that he has SUPPOSEDLY, with supposedly being the key word. Terrible experience. read more

I was moving into a new house and needed a plumber to do some work before I moved in. When I got the quote, I thought the price was too high but I didn't have an option because of time restraints. I thought, "well, if I am paying a premium price I will get premium work." Boy how wrong I was. For example, I had them plumb for a RO under my sink. They just installed all the water lines like spaghetti making the cabinet pretty well useless. They also just left one of the filter stages just floating around. I guess it was a good thing it was leaking and I had to call them back, at leat I was able to get that fasten to the side wall. (Still not done correctly). I sent him a text letting him know I was disappointed in the cost and his work and he just proceeded to tell me not to call him anymore. That is the type of service and overpriced work you can expect from this company. read more

In March Sargent's attempted to repair our heater for several hours, it was finally determined we needed a new one. Then COVID! After three months we make contact again and in two weeks (our schedule not his) a new one is installed. Sargent's worked with our schedule and making arrangements for installation. The crew was here for 3.5 hours and worked constantly and so professional. They were considerate of our space, prompt, very efficient, knowledgeable, and understood exactly what we needed. Our contractor called this company the day after the job because he was so upset that we got so ripped off. He got hung up on. Go figure. Then I guess he actually felt bad and called back to apologize, offering his services next time and would give us a fair price. Why didn't we get a fair price the first time? Beware. I wish i could put no stars but that is not an option. The guy (Frank) came over quickly but without a mask. I asked if he had a mask and he said no. Then he said let me see if my coworker left a mask. He went to his van and put on his coworkers mask. I had to ask that he cover his nose too. He said something about no one else asks him to put on a mask. He came in and I tried to explain to him what I had done and the issue he didn't seem interested. I had already opened up several things to make it easier for him. He looked all over and tested a few things and then stuck his snake into the drain and got it unplugged momentarily. He breifly retested it and said "OK you can put all this back together while I go write your invoice". I was amazed that he couldn't be bothered to put things back together. He asked me if I was quoted $200, I said "yes" and he seemed surprised. The drain started to run slow the very next day and I called Steve, the owner and tried to tell him that $200 was too much for the job ... he interrupted me and told me that was the price and he hung up on me before I could tell him there was still a plugged drain. I tried to contact him again but he refused to return to fix the job or return my money. I was able to contact my plumber of choice and he fixed it correctly. I learned my lesson, don't look for a plumber that can come out right away, there maybe a reason they are not busy. read more

I had Sargent's plumbing a winter or two ago fix a heater for my sister. I found about the problem in the afternoon. They sent someone out and found a few issues. They needed parts to fix it. By this time it was getting late in the day. They drove to the supply house in San Luis Obispo and got the parts and fixed the heater that evening. They didn't want her to be without a heater that night as tempretures were getting pretty low. The heater was fixed and it has been running fine ever since. I felt the price was very reasonable. After that I had them back to fixe a leak. I thought I wrote a review then, but I guess I forgot. I was looking up their number to have them come to my house to do a maintenance on my water heater when Yelp came up I noticed I didn't have a review for them. read more

I had a very baad experience the day before with the Plumbers from hell who left me, still with my pipes clogged and mud and sludge tracked all over my carpets. Long story short, Troy Cruz from Sargent's came out and in record time got everything flowing properly. And charged me much less, on a Saturday, than the previous plumber had charged me on a Friday, and he got the job done! Called to have a slow leak in the toilet fixed, and to replace a shutoff valve that I had. Steve said it could be because of the flapper needed to be replaced, and would send out someone within the hour. The repairman inspected the toilet and said indeed the flapper needed to be replaced. I left him to his work, and checked on him a bit later. Not only was the flapper replaced but the filler valve. During the checkout, the handle to flush would not go back up, unless you manually flipped it. The repairman worked on it a while and could not get it to work properly as it always had been. I called Steve about my concerns, and was immediately blasted with claims that my toilet was old and needed to be replaced, and how dare I question his professionalism. I tried to get him to stop talking to which he hung up on me. I have used this company in the past , but never again. read more

I also found out later I was over charged (as in almost double what it should have cost). The job performed by Louie was a total failure...amateur, cockeyed, sloppy, and leaked. Since the job was in the garage, tried to ignore the looks of his work. But did have him come back the next day to fix the leaks. Told to wait again hour and half after he left to turn water back on, it is now leaking worse than before! Totally frustrated and upset, called another local plumber. We had a very good experience with Steve, the owner. He came over to look at our gas wall heater and determined the smell we were getting from it was because it had accumulated major soot. He said we could save money if we cleaned it ourselves. He told my husband how to do it, which he did (dirty and time consuming). Steve came back the next day and inspected it and tested it for carbon monoxide. He told us it looked very good, and there were no signs of carbon monoxide.
