You MUST try the tzatziki here I took my wife out for an evening at the Ritz Carlton, Tyson's Corner, and the restaurants in the mall were pretty dismal. Cheesecake factory, legal seafoods, et al. Thankfully I had read a flattering review of Nostos from the Washington Post a few months back. We did not make a reservation, but arriving at 9pm were seated with no wait on a Friday night. The menu here has a couple entrees and a long list of small plates. We decided to split a bunch of small plates so we could taste more. Taramosalata had a lemony, garlicy, and a perfectly smooth texture. Melitzelanosalta, an eggplant dip, was also very garlicy, slightly herbal, and delicious. We had these spread on great pita bread. The Spanakopita really wowed- perfectly crispy crust and incredible filling. Very rich and satisfying. Although we tried to order the baked layered eggplant, the kitchen had run out (understandable and forgivable at 930pm), so we went for stuffed grape leaves. They were pretty average, but the tzatziki is the best, and unlike any I've ever tasted. I don't know where they get/make their yogurt, but no tzatziki I have made or tried has come close to this one. Creamy, rich, dense, yogurt perfectly balanced with yogurt and garlic. Finally we had the cod bites and "meatballs". Both of these were great and perfectly cooked but honestly, we were too stuffed to enjoy them. Overall, though driving to Tyson's can be a chore, the food is so good I'd make the trip just to go to Nostos again. read more

Nostos modern/sleek/minimalist atmosphere contrasts it's surrounding office building. Up front is a full bar with about 6 bar seats and some small tables that seemed cozy for a drink. The main dining room can get quite loud once the restaurant fills up so our business dinner was slightly disturbed at the end of our meal. However, it's a great place to take loved ones. Complementary soft bread with olive tapenade were a delicious start with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Trio of dips: Skordalia was different than any other dip I've had - almost like flavorful mashed potatoes (doesn't sound very good but you gotta try it since it was my favorite of the three). Tzaziki was creamy and full of fresh dill. Tyrokafteri was good but my least favorite although others at my table enjoyed it. There is a choice of dips that comes with delicious warm pita bread. Baked layered Eggplant: good but nothing very special. I liked it more when I put it on pita bread. Htapodi: I'm allergic to octopus but everyone else raved about this. Saganaki: cheese impressively lit into a flame table side is good but Cava has this as well and I feel Cava's is superior, less greasy. Lamb Chops: My favorite dish here, beautifully seared. It didn't even matter that it came to us medium though we asked for medium rare because I think the sear would have suffered had we got what we asked for. For Dessert we tried the shredded phyllo dough and apple cake - both were satisfying and fresh. I'd ask for more ice cream. read more

mmm... greek food. Always an adventure because most restaurants spin their dishes a bit different then the last. Went to Nostos upon purchase of a groupon a few months back. It had great yelp reviews, and nothing is better than a yummy meal that is discounted (so future yummy meals can be had). The menu is quite large, which is awesome. They also had a few daily specials for their entrees. We stuck with the small dishes though. Upon sitting we received bread and an olive tampenade-esque dip/spread. Good start! Our order was fairly large for two, but we wanted to try it all. (they moved a table over to make our 2 person table accommodate our meal). we ordered the: Spanikopita Kalamarakia Me Skordalia -- HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Saganaki FILETAKIA MELITZANA FOURNOU GARIDES ZAKYNTHOS All the food was awesome-- if you order the fried cheese be sure to eat it while it's hot because it will cool and get kind of hard. (it's a "duh" but just felt like I should mention that) The service was excellent-- as a new restaurant I would only expect awesome service. The ambiance was good for a small somewhat fancy place. Nice white walls, big windows, very open air atmosphere (even though it's inside). In conclusion-- I would return. However I felt like the food missed that "bang" that I would get at a Zaytinya (also mediterranean) for a bit more price. This was our 2nd time and it has dropped a star from last time. Still -- food, drinks, service (for us) -- 5 stars. However, I agree with others -- we made reservations, got there on time and then had to stand in the doorway for 30 min for a table to open up. Sad thing, we weren't alone -- it was crowded. Poor greeter looked at her computer screen, hitting it occasionally as if she could open up a table. You could tell she sorry for all of us standing there. The good news is we were the only party of 2 waiting, so she came & asked if we wanted to sit by the bar "where it was quieter". We agreed -- and she was right. Much better than the dinning room (it was also late). And it did seem as if we had more room, and less noise. From here, the 5 stars I remember -- good service, good food, good drinks. In the former deli, Chutzpah, where attitude and was side accompaniment with your bagel, this newly renovated Greek restaurant has the potential to be a neighborhood gem. The interior is nice, clean and simple, and the menu is extensive with interesting options. I ordered a tomato and cucumber salad with salmon and it was very refreshing for a 100 degree day. However, the salmon was drenched in the vinegar dressing and I would order it again but with the salmon in a separate dish. My guests ordered grilled chicken dish with potatoes and a simple romaine salad (respectively) and they were fine with their choices, but the dishes were very basic and unimaginative. A few comments: I felt the service was adequate but not friendly or attentive. The owner/manager took our bill and seemed very annoyed. There were NO pleasantries. No please or thank yous - even at Chutzpah you got a New York greeting. We did sit there for an extended amount of time, but we didn't take up a needed table and we tipped well. They bring white bread to the table with an olive tapenade, which was tasty but basic, but I had to ask for pita, which is a highlight in any Mediterranean restaurant. I felt like I was inconveniencing them with the request. Ironically, the pita bread was the highlight and they should, not only lead with this, but with a SMILE too. We are returning next week for a business dinner, so I hope they are having a better day by then. I would actually give this three and a half stars if the atmosphere were more pleasant. read more

Ok, so I heard amazing things about this place. I love Greek food, so what could go wrong? First, the wait staff were incredibly slow, and when they did see us he kept giving us free sips of alcohol to make up for his absence. Let me just say, it was a nice perk, but we prefer to be waited on! Also, I love octopus, but they overcooked it. Like scorched/burned it. When I told the waiter, he did nothing and said "oh, I think they changed the preparation method, that's a bummer, it was always my favorite dish." The rest of the food was ok, actually better than ok. We had the side of potatoes (covered in olive oil!), the feta and hot pepper spread, the Greek Beans, the meatballs, and...? Oh, the rice pudding. These other dishes give me hope that if we go back, we could like it. But, for now this place receives 2 stars, and that's being generous. read more

So my girlfriend and I went to Nostos for dinner for the first time because we wanted to find our favorite Greek restaurant. We didn't make a reservation but they allowed us to sit at the bar to have dinner which was nice even though they seemed like they didn't want to do it for us as if they were pulling a leg or something. None the less we sat down at the bar, the bartender was cool, i saw that the host went to the bartender to tell him to ID us as if it's not his job to do that but they made it seem very rude. We ordered our drinks and appetizer the tzatziki sauce or however you spell it with pita, I ordered it because I wanted some pita or bread to start with, then we ordered our entrees the meat platter and a vegetarian special. As time went by, the place seemed to get more busy. I noticed some guy came to the bar and sat down, he seemed like a regular. 5 minutes after he seemed to get bread for free, the other tables at the bar got bread but I assumed they got bread because they sat a tables instead of the bar, but what made it seem like we weren't welcome was that the guy at the bar got bread for free & we had to order a dip to get some pita. do I have to be a regular to get complimentary bread from this place?? My tip reflected the service I got, the entire time people stared at us as if we didn't belong their or were unwelcome, maybe because we were young?? I'm 21 and my girlfriend is 22 but that should never be a reason to make people seem unwelcome, I know the restaurant has over 3 stars but they should be a bit more welcoming. I went to lunch here with a group of about 15. The restaurant is elegant with cloth tablecloths. The menu consists mostly of small plates but did include some entrees. They also had a few daily specials. Our server was fantastic. He helped make the selection of small plates and the number of orders needed to serve our group. I was surprised to be taken to this hidden gem by a friend. I don't think that it would have been possible to find it if we hadn't known where to look, but my gosh was it worth the extra effort. It was a Friday evening at 8, and we were lucky to have reservations. They were having to turn most walk-ins away as they were booked solid until closing. What followed was one of the best meals of my life including the all time best scallops that I have ever experienced. For appetizers, we ordered the Spanakopita and a special starter of delightful scallops. We explained what kind of wine we were interested in expecting for our waiter to give us a suggestion or two. Instead, he disappears and brings back a glass each of different bottles. I don't know how he guessed, but he managed to find exactly what we wanted, and when the bill came, only $7 a glass! I love lamb so I could not pass over the Arnaki Forunou entree of slow roasted boneless leg of lamb served with oven brown baby potatoes. I was not disappointed. Fabulous food. Great service. Cons Didn't have our reservation...even though we made it the day before. Service at the start of the meal was good but after we received our food we didn't see our server for a long time. He finally came over and said, "Sorry, I got slammed." The noise level in the dining room is unbearable. Forget about having a conversation. The hostess told us the bar area is actually the quietest area...duelly noted... Definitely one of the better food options around Tysons' Corner but oh, the noise level is a huge drawback. read more

Almost 4-stars...definitely worth a try - very good! The restaurant is very nice on the inside (white-washed walls making you think of Santorini, etc.) - unfortunately it's situated in one of the corners of an office building so the outside aesthetics are not outstanding. We were initially disappointed based on the bread they gave us which had obviously been sitting around for a long time as it was super crusty. The tapenade they served with the bread was good. We ordered: Htapodi - grilled octopus ($14). Try this! It was delicious! Simply cooked and served on a bed of arugula, it was tender and tasty without being chewy like you'd expect. Hard to find octopus cooked this well and tasting so good. Saganaki ($10) - a block of sheep's cheese flamed at the table creating a crust with gooey cheese in the middle. Very delicious, I recommend, just make sure you eat it relatively quick before the cheese hardens back up. Melitzana Fourno ($9) - baked eggplant with other deliciousness. Tasty but a lot of olive oil in the mess. Kalamarakia (calamari, $9) - average. Was not served with any sauce. We had to ask for a lemon wedge to spice it up. It was served with a small amount of super garlicky mashed potatoes but that wasn't for dipping. Give Nostos a try. Make sure you give the grilled octopus a try if you're at all interested. read more

I normally reserve 5 star ratings for the types of restaurants that have no salt & pepper shakers on their tables, have a 1 month to the day reservation policy, and require I remortgage my house in order to dine there. The service was slightly above average and the decor was lovely, but the food, by far, deserved 5 stars. We went on Easter day, so we were limited to a few pre-fix menus (although we were offered the normal menu if we wanted it). If I could describe to you how picky of an eater my husband is and then show you pictures of his licked-clean plates, you'd really understand. The stuffed grape leaves, tzaziki sauce, and beat and goat cheese salad were fresh and delicious. The simple greek salad was fantastic - fresh and delicious produce. I enjoyed the vegetarian sampler, which included green beans, moussaka, and spanikopita - WONDERFUL! My husband had the lamb with green beans - a tremendous portion and the meat was succulent and juicy. My only complaint about dessert was that there was only one (but I fixed that by ordering some baklava to go). As a tristate out-of-towner, finding good reliable restaurants for lunch and dinner has been hit or miss. Maybe this won't be your 5 star spot - but I can assure you a delightful and tasty Greek meal. read more

I don't typically go to these kinds of expensive places. I find most expensive restaurants are pretentious, over priced, and mediocre at best. Usually the quality is not worth the value. That being said, the food at Nostos is excellent in quality, taste, and presentation. The prices are outrageous, thus the three stars. The service was great and I had no issues. I tried the octopus tentacle. This was amazing. It had great texture and flavor. The seafood stew was also delicious. But, I felt ridiculous spending $27 on it. I can get the same thing at a seafood shack for $9. The swordfish skewer was probably the best swordfish I've ever had. Swordfish is usually tough and over cooked. My only critique is it was a bit over salted. The ambiance is mediocre. It's loud in there. It's crowded. There were a bunch of men in suits standing around drinking at the bar. Five stars for the food. Five stars for the service. 2 stars for the price and value. 3 stars for the ambiance. I probably won't go back due to the prices. read more

Really nice dinner on Saturday night. We had the octopus (very, very good), the Haloumi (very good), the bean dip (OK), zucchini chips (good) and shared the Branzino for an entree. The Branzino was good, but I was preoccupied by the bones I kept finding. A little trouble for the fantastic flavor. Great atmosphere and quick service! Can't wait to go back. It's a beautiful place, but can be very loud. There were a few large parties when we were there and their noise was distracting at times. read more

We ordered MELITZANOSALATA, which is roast eggplant whipped with olive oil, garlic, parsley and lemon, but we really didn't have to, because it's the same dip they provided us with the bread. However, the dip is still very good. This place has the best lamb shank braised in wine tomato sauce served over Greek style orzo (ARNI YOUVETSI is the dish name). The lamb is falling off the bone just by using my fork picking over it. It's so succulent so delicious. They won me over right away. My parents have been raving about this place so I was very excited to try it. The interior is modern, sleek, yet very warm with soft gray walls, intimate lighting and white linens. To start, the taramosalata was amazing, light, creamy, almost reminded me of bagels and lox. The taverna salad is great, very large portion and easy to share, the vinaigrette was delicious. I was sad to hear they ran out of the grilled octopus, I saw it on other tables and wanted to try. We did have the swordfish skewers, which were cooked perfectly, moist, nice flavors, very simple. I would definitely go back, it's a great menu that affords sharing and trying a variety of things. My husband and I ate here last night and loved it. We did not have a reservation, but we were able to be seated in the lounge area. The ambiance was nice, but I look forward to being able to sit in the main dining room next time. The food was terrific! We were tempted to order several mezzas, but settled on two appetizers and two entress. Our appetizers were a roasted eggplant relish and sesame encrusted feta pan fried (lightly) and served with honey and almonds on top. The eggplant was delicious, but the feta was a standout. It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet--so good. For entrees, I ordered the baby lamp chops served with roasted asparagus and roasted lemon potatoes. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had a delicious rub on it. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned and delicious as was the asparagus. My husband ordered the lamb shank with orzo pasta. The shank was amazing--hints of cardamon and cinnamon infused to a very tender, fall off the bone lamb shank. I will definitely be back and look forward to trying some of the mezzas. Probably one of the best moussaka's I've had in the area. I've had their simple lamb dishes, and it wasn't anything too special. So I'd dish out more money for the bass any day. read more

I'm giving Nostos a 4.5/5, but I'll round up since I'm feeling generous lol. I went there yesterday on a date (for Valentine's day) and was more than pleasantly surprised. My date planned everything and I had never heard of Nostos, but I'm always open to Mediterranean flavors. They had two prix fixe menus last night (each was four courses), one for $60 pp and one for $75 pp. Long story short: the food was great from appetizer to desert, and the service was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything our server suggested was delicious, and the four course menu gave us a chance to try a bunch of different things that we wouldn't usually order. The only things holding me back from giving it a solid 5/5 are the fact that it was pretty cold and drafty in the restaurant, and towards the end of our dinner the server became difficult to find. Fabulous food and service! Very high quality ingredients skillfully prepared and served in a contemporary white washed walls Mediterranean setting. Like going to Greece without the travel! Especially enjoyed the flaming saganakai (cheese), and also the chicken souvlaki and halibut entree. The shrimp saganaki though wasn't garlicky enough (too mildly seasoned for my taste). This is the best Greek restaurant. I ordered Branzino and it was so delicious. The service is amazing and the food are delicious.

I am different than most folks, I am actually off during the week. Getting a delicious lunch anywhere in VA is hard to come by. Unless, you are doing it with a chain restaurant which can get a bit boring! This restaurant is truly wonderful from the service to the atmosphere and most notably the food. The grilled octopus is AMAZING! I think I could clearly live on this for a couple of years. The tapas menu, awesome, especially if its a ladies lunch, we eat small portions. But, it also allows you taste the menu as whole. The Tzatziki with meatballs, shrimp and garlic, and the sea bass are amazing! I will definitely be back. The waiter was kind, and said that the weekends are tough to get a reservation so think 2 weeks ahead. read more
