STAY FAR AWAY. Here's why I don't recommend: 1. Followup. It took 2 weeks to get a response from the business owner. It took me having to call twice before I got a response. 2. Consistency/Organization. The owner, Vikki, said she would buy our couches off of us. Then when I called to confirm drop off, she didn't call, and acted quite surprised when I showed up to her shop at the pre-arranged time. 3. Accountability. From when we met face to face, she adopted a mentality of putting all accountablility on us. a) "You didn't tell me how big these were" (we did, we gave her exact dimensions in fact) b) "Boy, I wish you had brought more people to help you unload" (excuse me? You're a FURNITURE STORE. You don't have the equipment to MOVE FURNITURE?) c) She then told us "actually, I don't need these anymore, but I will sell them for you anyway" This might have been the only generous part of the entire experience. d) She did not notify us that our furniture even sold. We had to call the store, 6 days after the consignment deadline, and we had to come down to pickup the check even though it says in the consignment agreement that payment will be SENT. e) She made the check out to the wrong person. As in, she completely misread my last name, making the check impossible to cash. When I went in to request a new check, she blamed me for the error. To be fair, she did give me cash instead. f) I originally decided to take the high road and share feedback of my experience privately. Because I got the sense she would react badly to the constructive criticism, I blocked her number after I sent it. She then FOUND MY FACEBOOK ACCOUNT AND SENT HARASSING messages to me, saying I was acting like a two-year old, and that I was "lucky" to have her sell the furniture for us in the first place. Her response was full of emojis and textspeak, and ended with calling me a "bad bad boy." I'm not prone to writing public negative reviews; usually I just let things go . But this is, without question, the rudest and most immature person I've ever done business with in my life. I cannot stress enough how bad this experience was, so much so that it actually makes me sick to my stomach knowing this store is still in business. read more

They have some really cute & unique furniture/home decor. As the name implies ("Not Too "Shabby") it is used/consignment Cottage style/Shabby Chic type of stuff. (if high end quality wood furniture is your thing you'll need to look elsewhere!) Make sure to check over items before purchasing!! I was bummed because I bought some wood furniture and once I got it home I discovered a huge crack in it. There have been several other occasions too when I was all set to buy something only to discover cracks, broken drawers etc. Again, check very carefully before purchasing! I think this store has major potential. It is decorated very nicely w/flair and you can tell the owners have a knack for the "cottage/shabby chic type" style. I do wish they would inspect their items a little more carefully. Also, quite a few of my neighbors went there recently & complained the prices were a tad on the high side. You can get some decent prices on the items they mark down that have been sitting there awhile though. You should check it out...it is a fun store! read more

Not Too Shabby is more of a vintage re-claimed store than a Thrift store. Many of the items have a sweet charm to them that only comes with art and/or being lived in for 30 years. It's a Meg's dream, because Meg's LOVE vintage art stores. And Not Too Shabby is no different. Main draws are that they have a really wide selection of different inside and outdoor furniture for whatever idea pops into your head. Most of the items are in really great condition, though I will always dislike unprofessionally painted vintage pieces. I.e., Fugliness. Great for blackboard paint, not so good for that vintage french artisan "feel." (Yuck) That being said, the prices also aren't fabulous, which I understand seeing as this store is on the more vintage and less boutique side of the spectrum, but sometimes they're hard to get past. We reconsidered several pieces just simply because we weren't sure they'd work, and they weren't priced well enough for us to throw caution to the wind. All in all, it wasn't 5 stars to me - though many of the pieces (especially the porch swing) were memorable and awesome enough to really make me want to return. read more

Some what disappointing. I made a purchase for a piece of furniture. Unable to pick it up until the weekend, I am charged a $20 storage fee. When I went to pay, I was going to use my credit card when I was told there would be a $5 surcharge for using it. Place has definitely changed and not for the better. When the guy called the owner to see if I could pick up the cabinet another day, I overheard him reference me as a "nagging customer ". Because I want the cabinet, I held my tongue and smiled. This is only the start of my plan to spread the word to other Antique dealers about the way I was treated. $5 for using my credit card? It's absolutely dme up the wall. Beware of BOTH locations. Business must be good for them to be able to treat customers with a "take it or leave it" attitude. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I was emptying my Grandmother's estate & had many antique/vintage items I was interested in selling. I text the owner & they had me send pics of what I had to them. After I took the time to take the pics & send them I never got a response. This is after I had sent a email 3 days earlier inquiring about selling to them & never got a response. When I went in store initially the staff was not friendly & sloppy in appearance. I accidentally discovered this place while in San Jose visiting my mother in the hospital. Was driving by and it caught my eye. I am a designer decorating a 100 year old home and the client wants authentic pieces. Great selection but seriously unprofessional staff! I took pictures of everything I was interested in and emailed the client. I WISH I HAD READ THESE REVIEWS FIRST, because the client was very interested in everything and the prices were great, but the transaction was from hell! I bought 15 items and it was torture! I returned to L.A. and tried to complete the transaction by email and phone. (typically I send photos to a client first and after receiving the go-ahead I complete the transaction; email was necessary so that the owner could see the pictures of the pieces I was trying to buy). The store didn't have a computer and the owner kept telling me her smart phone was stolen so there was no way to look at my email. (Who owns a business these days without the internet??) She was EXTREMELY unprofessional while calling me "Hon". YUCK!! When arranging to ship to L.A. she quoted $2000. I found my own driver and truck and did it for $800. (the antiques were priced low enough that the total was still a better price than L.A. plus a better selection. That was the only good news.) When she finally used one of her employees home computers she offensively told me some of the items had been sold. No apology... She would threaten me that she was putting my stuff in storage and would charge me if the shipper didn't show up before closing. He showed up on time and loaded with no problem, so the negative b.s. was so unnecessary. If they hadn't been for a very good client I would have walked away. Just a horrible experience! This place is to die for. I have been about 20 times in the past 4 months in my room makeover! Ok maybe not thaaaat many times. But at least 6 times and they always remember me and say Hi and are so friendly and sweet :-) I have found a little shabby stool to use as a nightstand, vintage shutters to use as a bulletin board, a mirror for my desk, etc. The best part is their estate sale at the Clifton house in SJ. It is held a few times annually. OMG! I never wanted to leave. It was truly a magical oasis of beautifully curated furniture, accessories, etc., all priced really well. I got a marie antoinette (my idol!) painting, pillows, chair cushions, a mini dress form and just all this random decor for like 100 dollars and I had two trips to my car. Not Too Shabby was an accidental find during a recent errand run, and what a treat! The venue is packed from floor to ceiling with all kinds of treasures. If you're on a mission to find something specific, be ready to spend a good chunk of time sifting through all the goods. There is no rhyme or reason to how things are organized. This business gets 4 stars for having amazing merchandise. I am withholding the fifth star because 1) prices are a bit higher here than other places I have visited, and 2) it could improve on customer service. Pretty big store full of vintage items from jewelry, bedroom, living room, decor, live plant decor, kitchen, games, furniture, tea cups, dolls, pillows, mirrors, art and just so much other junky but gorgeous stuff if you can see the beauty in vintage items! I've been looking for a vanity for the bedroom and I found one I loved for about $500! Not in love with the price and anyway it was already purchased. That said, some items are way overpriced and I saw in other reviews prices here are non negotiable. However another vanity set was only $60 and with a little paint and altering it woulda been nice. Some items I feel are worth it and others I feel you can look at garage sales or cheaper thrift stores. But the store itself was so beautiful with antiques. I'm dumb, next time I'll come with a truck so I can actually buy something. read more

This place is awesome if you love antique or vintage items (genuine or made-to-look). It's great if you're on a budget and want to achieve that shabby-chic look or just add a touch of character to your home. However, be observant of what you're buying and for what price. I would say 80% of the store is reasonably priced with 15% being either over-priced or way over-priced and 5% very much unreasonably priced. Nevertheless, every time my boyfriend and I have gone here we've fallen in love with something. I also like the way I'm treated here. Being rather young, we're never taken seriously as real buyers at many stores like this. Time and time again, we find ourselves coming back to Not Too Shabby for their items and service. I just bought two chairs there tonight and was most pleased with their service and clearance price ($10/ea!). read more

"Prices too high" is what the shop should be called. This is not an antique shop, this is a junk shop. Nothing here is older than the 50s, everything is covered with a layer of sticky dust, it's laid out like a garage sale, the two things I did want to buy were as much as 8 dollars more expensive than what a similar item sold for on Etsy or eBay. There are no bargains here. Also the staff was NOT helpful, just some bored looking young woman who was ignoring the customers and watching the clock. I've been curious about this shop for some time and now that I've satisfied my curiosity, I won't be back. I don't know how this shop stays in business with their tiny inventory and high prices. The owner just opened up a second store right next door as well making her 5000 sq ft into almost 10000 sq ft of furniture and decoration items for all seasons. If any of you havent heard of this place, I went today and it is amazing! If you are throwing any sort of bridal shower, baby shower, tea party, antique themed anything it is to DIE for! I want to redo my whole house in French country shabby chic now! this place actually has 3 stores all next to each other and I love everything in there. I didn't find the very odd specific thing I went looking for, but could have spent hours there and bought a ton of stuff if I had any purpose for it. I stopped in their Hillsdale location and fell in love, they referred me to their other location on Bascom and it basically has a bit of everything - super eclectic! They even have some new items to choose from too. It's so cool going through their store and seeing what options they have of garden elements, savage finds, old doors, chippy window... I could spend hours in there! I highly recommend people to check both of these Not Too Shabby stores out! They're completely heavenly! read more

Not Too Shabby has a ton of stuff. I easily spent an hour perusing the goods. This store has so much stuff inside and out....and quite a few gems can be found. The prices are very reasonable too, better than most stores that sell the same genre of items. In fact, I purchased a great shabby chic french country chair, for a great price. I've always loved this store and a few weeks back checked out their new store on Hillsdale. The saleswoman told us about an upcoming promotion, buy a bag for $20 and on sale day, December 8th, anything you can fill the bag with is your's for the price of the bag. We were told the sale was at both their locations but the bag we bought was only going to work for us at the Hillsdale location. We happened to got to both stores that day and we received the same information at the Bascom store. She was also promoting the bags at their location and told us the bag was good only for the store it was purchased at. This was two employees giving the same information. So we showed up on December 8th at the Hillsdale store (mind you I live near Fresno, so I made a special trip to get there) at the door, 11:00 am. We are told on entering that the sale is only at the Bascom store. I've been to both stores and the Bascom store tends to have more furniture pieces than small pieces. So we race there, knowing the pickings will be slim based on their usual inventory. I was hoping they had possibly stocked more bag sized items for the sale. We get there and it's their normal inventory. Not much fits in the bags, lots of people there and I hear a few people complain that there was a mixup about which store they were holding the sale at. When I got to the counter to check out, and I mention that there was some confusion about where the sale was and I was driving to different locations, the lady at the register started to apologize and the owner stepped in with "no need to apologize, the sale is at this store and that's all there is to it". I was very disappointed in her attitude. What kind of customer service is that. It wouldn't have hurt to apologize, most customers only want acknowledgement that yes it could have been better managed and the inconvenience was acknowledge and they would try to make sure that the next sale was more clearly explained and executed. So I give this a 1 star because I really believe that if I'm going to spend my money in your store, you need to be courteous and respectful to your clients. Her attitude was rude and entitled and a woman of her age and experience in business, she should know better. I'll think twice next time I think of shopping there, I won't recommend this place, and I certainly won't make any special trips to this establishment for any special promotions. read more

Not even the slightest bit shabby lol. Upon walking in you may feel like you are in a time machine, however upon closer inspection the items being sold seem like they came from a garage sale in the 50s and everything is almost broken or falling apart. The prices are pretty high even when they had a sale which has me wondering if they are even on sale or if the sale sign was up just to attract people in. The really funny thing is that I see better quality items at goodwill or the salvation army. I would not recommend stopping by even if you are lured in by the sale sign. read more

Came here a few times in the past and didn't find anything that actually caught my eye. Passing through the neighborhood, I thought why not stop and see what they have this time. On the weekend i came across this classic Pepsi superman glass cup that i absolutely fell in love with which had no price tag on it. I went to the guy who was working at the cashier and asked him for the price. He asks me where I found the cup and I showed him the exact location. The cup was next to 3 other glasses which were also Pepsi BUT not superman, (looney toones, uncle scrooge, and some other character I had no idea who it was) The man told me oh this is a "set" and its 28 dollars. I then ask him how this is a so called "set" all the characters are completely different and there's no way this is a set. I told him I would like to negotiate or ask the seller if they would go down a little on the price because in the end I just want the superman glass. He tells me that there's no way he can bring down the price, that's what the owner wants....i can really care less what the owner wants...I'm the customer here trying to buy something and you're telling me i basically cant have it without buying the other characters...He then steps away to make a phone call to the owner to see if he/she will go down on the price...( he really could of just pretended to call someone...who knows!) He tells me that " im sorry HUN, there's nothing I can do. I tried to talk to the owner on the price but cant do less or just sell you 1 cup- You have to take all or none. That right there just made me furious. I told him that its an inconvenience to your customers that 1.) you don't nor wont negotiate on prices or at least break up the set because it clearly doesn't match together!!! A few month ago I had an old chandelier very heavy and wanted to sell it, the owner was not there was a lady that works there, her questions how much do u want for that? I looked around and others chandeliers were high priced. So I said between $50-$100, ok she said the owner is not here. call her later. I called her later, she was not giving me a straight answer. So I asked do u want to buy it or not? I do not have all the time in the world, finally she had said she is not interested, could not get a straight answer from her, so I believe this place does not give a good service, it sucks!!!! read more

I drive by here often and decided to stop. Sadly one star for a few reasons. Painted furniture that is vintage or antique lessens the value greatly. Shabby Chic French country tags don't mean it's French. Sad stencil painted things, with horrible lettering that is not even straight. Fake little "Parisienne" Rue de blahblahblah stuff. Depressing 7th grade level lettering. Stuff priced in the the garden is really just old junk. (CAR DOOR?? 40 bucks? needed for... what? ) Mainly, the proprietor was a turn off to me. On the day I visited, she was talking to some guy in a cheap suit about being featured on his youtube channel. I'm all for networking, but maybe take a break and greet your clients? The guy finally left as she gushed on and on about her 23 year old son who was running the other shop on hillsadale avenue. (wonder if i will go maybe he's cooler) After the guy left, I wandered a bit more .. hoping to get some questions answered. Instead someone called her and I heard her talking down about one of her vendors to someone else on the phone. I thought that was rude and unprofessional considering her vendors pay her rent. Keep it in the back room. I turned the corner from one of the nooks, she looked up from her gossip session on the phone, made eye contact with me said nothing and turned away. She had a sour expression and I felt lucky in the end to have had zero interaction with her. The combination of fake faux french paint splattered stuff, junk with price tags in her "Garden Area" and the owner herself get a whopping ONE star. Try to have some manners. Guess what I work in client service, and I have worked in antiques. step up your game since antiques row is about a block up. read more

While I sometimes like browsing around in this store, I do not like their ridiculously high prices. In these hard economic times, even people who love fine, antique furniture would have to think twice about buying expensive items from here. Of course, they are a consignment shop, so most of their prices are multiplied several times. I'd rather go to estate sales where I can bargain for more interesting and unique finds. I was actually appalled to find an "antique" rusted metal bench in their "garden" area for a ridiculous sale price of $249. We have two of those exact ones in our yard that were purchased at a home depot some years ago. Definitely not an antique! read more

The hubby and I were the only two people in the store, and the lady at the counter couldn't be bothered to look up from her computer to say hello. While the merchandise does fit in the Shabby Chic, it is wayyyy over priced! A lot of it is newer furniture dressed to look vintage. I saw our old kitchen table outside that we sold on Craigslist for 20! Consignment here is 50/50. I think I'll stick to Craigslist. read more

The warehouse has a large and great selection of vintage stuff. However, the owner is not too great at responding to our inquiry about a typewriter. We reached out to her several times and she never got back to us. Seems like she didn't want to sell it to her. It's disappointing for a store that sell rare vintage items. What a great shop!! Just about all of the other antique/vintage/consignment shops in the area are outrageously expensive and cluttered...I feel like I'm in a hoarder's garage!
