We sat at the bar and though the service was very good (and the bartender attentive) the place just felt like it was going downhill compared with the last few times we went. It was relatively quiet and it appeared that there were some issues with management-- we overheard a couple of heated discussions between who we thought was a manager and one of the staffers. This was right in front of us. The bar had that "just wiped clean" smell-- not terribly appetizing. When I ordered my drink, I had to wait because they didn't have a glass for it. And when I finally got my drink, it was warm. I had to request a straw to mix the ice into the drink. The food was good, though, and seemed fresh, service otherwise was fine. But it just seems that they are dealing with management and staffing issues--I guess like every other place these days. read more

I've been here several times now and I really like it! It's very busy on the weekend so definitely make a reservation. I love sitting outside on the roof. Great atmosphere and nice to people watch. The food here is really good. I haven't had a bad thing yet. We always loved ordering the cheese steak egg rolls so were disappointed when we came recently and they told us they were off the menu. The bread they give you here is so good. Love the dip they give you with it too. I recently had the mussels and they were great. They are an appetizer but I had them as my meal and ordered the house salad to go with it. The house salad was fantastic! I will definitely get that again next time I come. We sat for over an hour and a half for buttered noodles and salads. The server didn't check in and we had to find someone to figure out where our food was. The server then said they'd comp one of the dishes, only to return and say that the manager said that wasn't allowed & so gave a really meager discount. (The manager never came to talk to us.) The food is mediocre at best (and overpriced) but the experience was truly awful. So we were not impressed. I will start off by saying that the staff were very nice. I liked the general decor and set up. I am not sure how the movie previews tie in but what ever. I didn't really think that the food menu was overpriced. I did think the bar menu was overpriced. $12 for a premium spirit with a mixer. I don't pay that much at Del Frisco's or the Capital Grill. The menu was a little eclectic. For my view, I don't think some of the pairings quite worked. Shrimp scampi with breaded and fried shrimp. Really doesn't work. The grease of the breading didn't mesh well with the lemon butter sauce. The chicken parm came out way over cooked. We probably should have sent it back but we didn't. We were hungry. The sirloin tips were fine. I really love balsamic vinegar but with this, I don't think the balsamic paired well with the meat. It really just overpowered the natural flavor of the beef. read more

I would think some of the supply issues as well as potential new staff stuff has got be a direct result coming out of COVID-19. Hope is these things will soon all be worked out. Went here two weeks in a row (Feb. 13 & 20, 2021) Food, alcoholic beverages and service was good. Very friendly and nice hostess. Good atmosphere, free parking. The one disappointment was the two week I came here, both Saturdays, they ran out of mash potatoes. Why????? Btw, this place has two floors, great for a date, a night out with friends or family. The hostess sat us at a table and after sitting there for 35 minutes without even any acknowledgment from any staff, I had to get up and ask what was going on. She then cut me off to say that the server we were supposed to have was sent home. After that we waited after asking for our check for 15-20 minutes because the server couldn't find any of the black books. Honestly feel bad cause food was decent but it's not worth the terrible experience. Wouldn't recommend to anyone especially since there's probably so many better options in the square. read more

The ahi tuna wontons were delicious (and spicy!), and the chicken dumplings were filling for being an appetizer (and only $10). NYAJ (the stores nickname) is located in the former Suburban Theatre. They have a large projector screen showing retro movies, therefore it seems it is going with movie theme. However, they have a bar showing only sports. So it seems they are a bit confused. It is located right by the Starbucks so just look for NYAJ's large orange umbrellas. The best part of the meal is their signature dip. No questions asked. It adds the perfect flavor to a solid piece of bread. They have great drinks. I had their baby peach fizz drink and it was awesome. I had the perfect balance of "fizz" and sweetness. I had to go in for seconds. I wish they did not actually put berries in the drink as it is a bit uncharacteristic if a peach drink. I had a house salad that was nothing special. It lacked tomatoes and they overloaded on lettuce and carrots. My barbeque chicken pizza was not much better. It had a beautiful decor and a nicely done crust, but everything else on the pizza was average. The chicken was chewy and you only received 2 small pieces of chicken per slice. The peanut butter thing, which they claim customers love was subpar. Lots of ice cream, not enough peanut butter flavor. Unfortunately, the whipped cream lacked flavor. NYAJ's is a great restaurant choice - in fact, it is one of our Go-To's when we cannot decide where to go. They have a pretty good drink selection, some local brews and a few wine options, and the food is always decent. The service can be slow at times, but all in all, we always leave happy. The best part? Their focaccia and spicy olive oil dipping sauce. I could literally sit there and eat just this all night long. Their portions are large, sometimes too large, and everything we have tried has been pretty good - hence why we keep going back. Is it our favorite restaurant? No, but it's a darn good one. Dining with a toddler is a precarious situation and options are limited largely because I don't want to let other diners suffer. This is one of a few places we are OK bringing our kid. Decent kids menu, large tv, WiFi, loud enough he won't disrupt folks. The food for an adult is very hit or miss. My baked ziti was watery with over cooked noodles. I had a small side Greek salad with a triangle of pita bread that was literally raw dough. The waitress didn't seem to care that much when I pointed it out. We go because our options are limited, but I don't know why anyone would wait an hour+ to eat here. Great place. Nice ambience. There's two floors. So why 3 stars and not 5 stars? The grilled salmon was overcooked and very dry. The sautéed Brussels sprouts were grilled and overly dry. The salmon should have been dipped in olive oil and seasonings before grilling. The so-called sautéed brussel sprouts should have been sautéed in olive oil and seasonings. The bread that's served while waiting for your food is very good and filling, so don't eat too much before your meal. The mashed potatoes are smashed potatoes with the skins. The waitress said these were garlic mashed potatoes and made it seem as if no skins. Oops...guess she forgot. The baked ziti is good. The sautéed carrots could have used more flavor. The raspberry lime rickey is delicious. The watermelon lemonade and watermelon tea were okay but nothing to write home about. The server and staff were nice although I was misinformed about the menu items. Would I come back? Possibly. I think I may have just ordered the wrong meal along with the chef needing some additional pointers. read more

I'm NOT your average Joe so this must be my place! Fortunately for me on this beautiful Saturday it was. I blew in for and early lunch and sat at the downstairs bar. I usually don't mention folks by name but after an hour of Gerald's attentions' I have added him to my bartenders Hall of Fame. He was exceptional and I understand it was his first month. Kudos to management for hiring him. As "he" was a Gerald, he wasn't dressed as a Victoria's Secret model but that was just my bartender dream. I won't hold that against him. Needless to say my CUSTOMER SERVICE was outstanding. As I was perusing the menu I was served warm focaccia with this amazing cheese and olive oil dipping sauce. They give you a little spoon which leads you to believe your should use it to put the sauce on the bread. Ignore it! Rip of a chunk of warm bread and dip it as it should be done. It was a wonderful beginning. Some folks call the ATMOSPHERE here industrial. That may be true but not so much as to be considered austere. I can see how a wide variety of patrons would feel comfortable here. I ordered Anything But Average Meatloaf for $13. It was fresh mozzarella stuffed meatloaf, with sautéed veggies, mashed potatoes and bbq gravy. Check out my pic and you'll see it was plated beautifully. The temperature was perfect and some care was taken with the vegetables instead of just being an afterthought. I was impressed. I very much enjoyed my meal but I found it overall just a bit under seasoned. Did every component have seasoning? Yes, of course just not quite enough. This was our third time at a Not Your Average Joe's, and our second time at this location. (Pretty good streak for people who live in Los Angeles.) We definitely prefer this location with it's steam-punk retro vibe and old movie clips projecting on a large white screen visible from anywhere in the restaurant's two floors. I started with the Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned cocktail. I'm a Bourbon man and a sucker for anything with the word maple in it. This was quite tasty and definitely did the job it was meant to. I also had the Joe Schmo pizza...this is the basic cheese pizza, about 12 inches, wood fired style. The crust was great though I would have liked a bit more sauce. I finished with the Ginger Stout Cake - a seasonal dessert. It was more dry than dense as they advertised in the menu, and mine came with an onion mixed in with the cinnamon whipped cream. It had a nice ginger flavor but I didn't get so much stout out of it. We were there with a large party with people of all ages...it was nice they could accommodate us, but there were a few issues. An salad came with dressing on it and not an the side as ordered. Another pizza ordered for one of us didn't come until everyone else was finished with their entrée, and it took a couple of reminders before we got the bread and oil dip that usually comes to every table after ordering food. My gluten-free wife always enjoys the gluten free bread they serve too. (although this time it was cold on the inside when the previous times she got it, it was perfect.) Odds are we'll be back as it's just in the right location for family to intersect when we're in town and there are a lot of options to eat including specials that change with the seasons...hopefully the service issues we experienced on this visit were a one time thing. read more

What a lovely new bar\restaurant on the Main Line! Be sure to check it out! I have to thank Danielle, our server at Chickie's and Pete's in the PHL airport for this tip...I hadn't heard of this place until Danielle started talking about it with HIGH regard. We could not wait to get back from our trip to try it out! We went on a Friday night around 7:30 and it was MOBBED. Wait time for a table was over an hour, but we could wait by the bar or they would call us when our table was ready. We opted for the bar upstairs which was also MOBBED! As it turns out, our timing was pretty good. We eyed up a couple at the bar that was finishing their meal and got a couple seats in about 10 minutes, not bad at all considering the crowd on hand. We cancelled our reservations and had dinner at the bar. The Focaccia...House made, it's very good bread. Dip it into the romano cheese, garlic, red pepper flakes, and EVOO and its insane! My wife, who gave up bread for lent, was eating it from the spoon. We went thru 2 servings of this phenomenal dip while waiting for our dinner to arrive... My Black Bean soup was excellent. Just a bit of heat with other goodies in there, it wasn't just a cup of Black Beans, which some black bean soups seem to be...I had the pork tenderloin as an entree, which comes with sweet potato mash and a side of the famous maple roasted brussel sprouts. I do not like brussel sprouts. But I was loving these things...Sweet at first followed by delicious roasted goodness...give them a shot...the sweet potato mash was also outstanding! Could almost be a dessert item! My pork tenderloin was served medium(I LOVED hearing this from our server) and it was amazing! My wife had the Ahi Tuna served on cucumber slices and Rosemary Scallops over couscous. We really stuffed ourselves, but I already knew I was going to try the motlen chocolate cake. Altho the cake was a bit small, it was delicious and the presentation was fantastic! We had such a good time, we came back less than 48 hours later...got a table upstairs this time, right on the edge of the balcony...Went with the Carolina Pecan Chicken which came with the sweet mash, and I subbed roasted carrots for the spinach...the chicken was really good, well coated in pecans and cooked to perfection. My wife went with the Turkey Burger, no bun. The burger had bits of egg whites in it, and it comes on a bed of spinach and Quinoa, both of which she enjoyed thoroughly! We got the Peanut Butter thing for dessert...Being a chocolate guy, I wasn't sure about this item...I'd be more willing to get it if it was the chocolate thing, but it sounds interesting and my wife wanted a taste so we got it...I was NOT let down! plenty of chocolate in there, it wasn't overwhelmingly peanut buttery. The server "finishes" this dish table side by pouring a couple shots of hot caramel and hot chocolate sauce on top...I'm gonna ask for all chocolate sauce next time, but that is just the chocolate lover in me... Your check comes on a little clipboard with an iPod attached to it. You use the iPod to rate\review your dining experience. Pretty clever. The decor inside is very cool! Industrial, open, the movie projector hanging in the middle of the place with 80's movie previews playing. I was visiting my sister in Ardmore and she recommended we give this place a try after hearing good reviews from her friends. The restaurant is in a really nice part of town with lots of different options. Parking was a breeze with a garage right next door. We had a very short wait to get a table, and stopped by the bar to grab a drink- they had both a great selection of draft beers- including a few local options- and an interesting cocktail menu. The menu is somewhat focused, but had a few interesting options on it. I got the cioppino which was spot on. Everyone in my group really seemed to like what they got. It was interesting, the table next to us appeared to be a single mother taking her 3 younger children out to eat. Each of them got the steak frites- and each of them found some reason to send their dishes back or get them comped. It's a shame that some people try to take advantage of nicer restaurants, but I give props to the restaurant for how they handled it. read more

Arriving on a gorgeous Saturday night at 9pm in June, looking for outside seating for 2. The tables appeared to be half empty, since we could see them, as they were ... outside. In response to our request, the teenage hostess immediately said "I don't thiiiiink they have anything available" and stood there smiling. I simply looked at her and waited for her to offer to go check, which, after an awkward pause, she did. Only to come back to deliver the expected disappointing news that they weren't seating outside any longer, despite their hours of operation being open til 11pm. So, we walked around the corner to the only other restaurant open, where we were warmly greeted and provided immediate accommodations to our outdoor seating request, followed by excellent service, food and drinks. When we go out on a date, we can't always make it to an establishment early due to work and personal schedules, We are courteous, tip our servers very well and never show up at closing. To be frank, we're a great customer. If we like you, we will bring back our friends. To be turned away without any desire to truly provide a service and be treated as an inconvenience is unbecoming of a restaurant. We were hungry and tired and finally had a few minutes to spend together and this was the outcome. I'd like to avoid this in the future and advise others to do as well. Your service has shown me that you're not interested in inconveniencing yourself above providing a great customer experience. It was my first time there and I'll never try it again. This establishment is "not your average" restaurant: it is well below average in terms of customer service. I'm not talking about the 20-something servers and hostesses. They were pleasant but clueless. Communication starts at the top, with the general Manager, and nearly from start to finish, it was a communication nightmare. I initially tried to reserve a table outside for me and three friends, but was told over the phone that they couldn't reserve outside tables. Fine. I got to the restaurant and the entire outside seating area was empty. I go inside and the hostess tells me it is a 40-min wait for the tables on the upstairs patio. I thought there were no reservations, and what about the first floor outside area? Oh, that isn't being used tonight, she said, only the second floor patio is. So I get on the wait list and head up to the upstairs bar, and 40-some minutes later, I get a text instructing me to go down again to the hostess on the first floor. She says there is a table outside for you, on the first floor outside patio now. What!?! We go outside, only to observe that a party that was seated much later than us is now being served while we are still sitting there with empty bellies. *TLDR*; five stars for the food, but zero stars for management. I think the GM must've gone to the shore for the weekend. read more

I had been wanting to try this place for a while and we finally stopped by here on a Saturday for dinner. We didn't have reservations and the wait to sit inside was 45 mins to an hour! So, I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Luckily, it was only the two of us and there was no wait to sit out on the patio. So, we missed the movie clips/whatever they have going on inside, but the rooftop patio was awesome! It was really nice and offered a great view. The complimentary bread comes with some dip with oil and cheese in it. Both amazing! I wasn't in the mood for drink drinks, but I got the raspberry lemonade, which was great and bottomless. My fiance got the buffalo Caribbean chicken tenders and a side caesar salad which he said was "good, but not amazing". I had the sirloin tips which I loved. The sirloin tips were over mashed potatoes and spinach with balsamic vinaigrette, it was perfect. Our waitress was great and attentive. The prices are reasonable and portion sizes were good. It was a stormy night but still wanted to eat outside. I got the tuna poke bowl and I forgot what my friend got but she liked her dish. Our cocktails were delicious! I had a spiked watermelon drink. The food was very good.... I had a lot of the fried crispy things on my poke bowl (maybe I didn't read the description carefully but was trying to avoid that kind of unhealthy stuff). What really impressed me about the place was that in spite of a torrential downpour we were completely dry while eating outside on the covered patio. If you are worried about rain but still wanted to be protected and dry and have some nice people watching with good food and drinks then this is a perfect choice. It made for a dramatic evening to watch the downpour while being outside! Is it standard practice these days for the wait-staff to tell you that you only are allowed to stay for 1.5 hours? I'm not complaining if that is a health ordinance...just wondering since have not been told that anywhere else we have eaten lately. read more

this is my second visit and the food is mediocre, nothing exciting or exotic about it. Service definitely has more room to grow, our server was also a bartender so he had been quite busy with the bar and other tables even though it was a weekday afternoon. The restaurant was half empty, we had 2 adults and 3 kids in our party and service was slow, had to ask for water and second round of drinks. the other server ignored us when we asked for ketchup because she wasn't taking care of our table, after nodding to our request she just walked straight to the kitchen, waited around for her food and completely ignored us. it's a shame because we live so close by and would love to find a go-to place within walking distance. it was just an okay experience for us and neither the food nor service left a good impression. read more

Stopped by for the first time with my significant other and two children. I really enjoyed this place. It's family friendly restaurant but with elevated casual fare. I especially enjoyed the sheet pan nachos and the sparkling strawberry margarita. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable.
