Went here last night for my grandmothers 84th birthday.... Service was incredibly slow. Half of our party's food was served before waiting another 10 minutes for the rest of the food to come out. The birthday girls food was served last and she ordered a salad! Dads burger was cooked well done when he ordered it medium rare so we had to wait for that to be recooked. By the time it came out everyone was done eating so he just took it home. We were all disappointed and skipped on any desserts. Will not be going back. read more

Never knew this place was so great. My drink pomegranate passion Martini was amazing as you can see in the pics!! Crab cake definitely stood out from the other places and is a must try. For a chain restaurant, NYAJ's is pretty good, but for a general restaurant I found it pretty average. Walking in, I enjoyed the light and inviting décor. You would think it's like your typical Applebees chain, but the vibe I got was one of a contemporary diner. For the food, I found it be overall underwhelming and under-seasoned. The bread rolls (more like a Focaccia) with the olive oil mixture was appetizing and helped to awaken the appetite, but everything after was the disappointing part. Recommended by the waiter, we decided to order the flatbread and Sirloin Tips. Flatbread: Layered with a balsamic-like sauce and sweet potatoes, the flavors didn't really pop. The center pieces had an appropriate amount of toppings, but as you get toward the crust it's just dough. Sirloin Tips: I was really excited to try this, but probably found this the most disappointing. The tips were completely charred and the only taste I could feel was burnt coal. Green beans felt like they were fresh, but were a little too raw to my liking. For steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans I didn't find anything special. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes, but it's conveniently close to the Warwick Mall. read more

Meal comes 5 minutes after appetizer. Ordered burgers, looked like they were cooked correctly, but the burgers were cold. What a disaster of a meal. UPDATE: Old Review below After publishing my not so good review below, I received a direct message from the business apologizing for the poor service my party and I received. We were kindly compensated for our meal with a $60 gift card along with a personal handwritten message, which was a nice gesture. So, back to the food! This time, we decided to order take out from NYAJ for fear of having to tip in case we had the same bad experience. We ordered miso salmon with bok choy and coconut risotto, heritage bone-in pork chop atop arugula and roasted potatoes, Thai chicken lettuce wraps, and a bowl of tomato basil soup. The meal came with their house bread and butter/olive oil? cheese dip. My son enjoyed his miso salmon -- I had a few bites to try and I did like it. It wasn't dry and had good flavor. Also enjoyed the coconut risotto. I didn't care for my pork chop that I ordered medium, since it will continue to cook in the heat...and it came out extra dry. I didn't mind the dressing on the arugula and the potatoes were good. I didn't try my bf's Thai lettuce wrap b/c he didn't like it and it didn't look appetizing. I give this 2nd chance 3 stars since I enjoyed some of the food. I'm very grateful for the business reaching out and asking for another try. The host nodded her head...but she did not ask us and I always choose to sit outside, oh well. Didn't want to bother them. Our server took forever to come and greet us and asked the initial, "would you like anything to drink?" Then she disappeared for a while after that as well. Going to make this short and not so sweet...the service was disappointing and the customer service from the server herself wasn't friendly at all. It seemed like she didn't want to be there at all and hated her job. I think it took about thirty minutes or more for our food to come out and the food was just, Ok, too. I ordered a caprese salad and had to ask for extra dressing b/c it was so dry. My son ordered steak tips that he did not enjoy b/c they were chewy. He asked for medium rare and they came out medium well. My bf ordered a meatloaf dish that didn't have enough gravy and when he asked for a side of gravy, the server said they didn't have any. Service is terrible, very slow, waited 40 min for soup and salad... the chowder was DISGUSTING when brought out to me it had a film over it like it was sitting the whole time before being served to me, it was way too thick and curdled. Couldn't even eat it after one bite yet they got $11 for it. The chicken Caesar salad, $17, barely any chicken or salad, for $17?!! Definitely recommend going into the mall and going to the food court, way better food there for a lot less.... I've been here a number of times and love the bar setup with a huge TV front and center with no closed captioning on. Great work with that. The Seekonk location is closer to me but their tvs are old, tiny and too high up. Steak n cheese egg rolls are my favorite and all their salads taste so fresh. I went in on Thursday and the bartender was so nice and attentive. I realized I was drinking out of a glass that had lipstick smeared all over it and that was really gross. Honestly lost my appetite a bit after that so I can't say I'm looking to rush back even though I'm a fan overall. Might be a while. read more

Top Notch Customer Support!! Within a few hours of my review I received a message from Jimmie at NYAJ Customer Relations. He was able to explain in good detail what may have gone wrong at the two locations to cause my unfortunate experience. I can say I genuinely felt how much he cared about what had gone wrong and how to work to correct the situation. So much so that he was going to make sure that the staff at both locations were informed about what had gone wrong and how to hopefully avoid situations of that nation from happening again in the future. I was delighted to hear that as I really wrote this review to help alert people and hope that something could be done to avoid this happening again. However, Jimmie was also exceedingly generous and said he was sending me out a gift card to cover the $15 discount plus some extra $ to make it up to me. This is beyond my expectation and I am more than thankful for the absolutely wonderful customer service he provided me. Moral of the story: continue to dine at NYAJ, the food is great and the experience is usually a delight. If by chance you have a bad experience don't hesitate to use platforms such as this to share what exactly went wrong. Odds are someone (maybe even Jimmie himself) will see it and do what he can to help make inform the staff so they can improve and better themselves as a result of it. read more

Wow! We came here with a reservation and were seated pretty quickly but that's where everything just turned bad. For a Sunday early evening this place wasn't busy at all! We were greeted by Joe, our server. After our drinks we ordered our food! Which took foreverrr! Our party ordered mustard chicken blt sandwiches, Tuscan chicken and a salmon entree! It took at least 40 minutes to receive the food, and once we did receive it it was all luke warm and after realizing it had sat for a little while. I'm never disappointed at NYAJ! The Warwick Rhode Island location as well as the South Dartmouth MA location are terrific. Always love the bread ... it's airy yet crusty texture with the delicious Parmesan and red pepper dipping oil's. TUNA WONTONS AND THAI LETTUCE WRAPS A HUGE HIT!!! The varieties of pizza are terrific & ... taken to go , ate out of this world! Strawberry, goat cheese and walnut salad , a huge hit at home also. Lovely service at the bar, and at tables. We had two beef Asian noodle bowls, chicken pot stickers ( so good we ordered more), lobster guacamole ( lobster was good but maybe it needed more seasoning not sure I'm not a big lobster person) and fish with the best sweet potato ff I've ever had. Lived in Warwick for years but never tried this place. Decided to eat lunch outside because it's a nice day. They have a beautiful, spacious patio as well as a nice fire place area to sit around and it would be perfect for dinner or drinks outside inside in the summer. Our waitress, Lauren, was awesome. Quick, checked up on us enough to where if we needed something we didn't have to wait for it, but also didn't feel rushed at all and like we could really sit and enjoy our meal, she was very friendly as well. My server was excellent. My first time at the bar since pre-Covid. I ordered a large IPA, the Ahi Tuna Wontons, and the Bang Bang Shrimp. Wontons were good, but the shrimp was not at all spicy. It had a strong vinegar taste. I would rate it a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5. Other than that, I was disappointed that there was nothing local on tap except for Whalers. I was sure what to expect based on the reviews and am so glad I stopped by. I was able to make a reservation and was seated right away. My server was very pleasant. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and burgers with a wedge salad for dinner. I also asked for a sample of the pumpkin apple soup, which was fantastic. The server gave me a half of a cup, which was very kind. The crab cakes were good and not full of bread. Speaking of bread...oh my gosh the warm bread they serve with the mixture of garlic, olive oil and Parmesan is delightful. Wish we we had this combo in GA. Clam chowder and a Caesar salad is the best lunch known to mankind and I will die on that hill. That being said, I, with my admittedly high standards, ordered these items for a takeout lunch and Not Your Average Joe's knocked it out of the park. For starters, the order was ready early and the staff were friendly. Then, what a treat to get back to my hotel, open my takeout bag, and find that not only did they get the order right, they put extra goodies in there: several pieces of what appeared to be homemade onion focaccia bread, which was delicious dipped in the chowder. The chowder itself was perfect: nice and hot, just enough clams, not overly potato-y, and the smaller size (cup vs. bowl) is plenty of food to fill you up. Quick service, delicious food and even better bread! Lol. I came for a quick after drink snack and ended up sitting at the bar for appy hour, which was a total win!! I got the ahí tuna wontons and the mango buffalo tenders. They were awesome, the ahi was tender and the wontons were put together nicely, while I probably could do with smaller wontons due to the size of the ahi slices. I also tried the mango lemonade, but that definitely was a waste of money for me, it was way too tart and I couldn't really taste any mango, it would of been delicious if it was just more refreshing. I only ever go to not your average Joe's when I'm really craving their bread and boy, did they not disappoint. I was in and out within an hour, with time to thoroughly enjoy my meal. I'm quickly gaining new restaurant favs in Rhode Island. I can thank my co-workers for my first visit here. Great outdoor patio was perfect setting for happy hour. Our waitress - I didn't catch her name as I wasn't one of the first ones there - was amazing. She remembered who ordered what drink and quickly noticed when new faces appeared. Our drinks were delicious and our appetizers were even better. Now what was great, was the olive oil, hot pepper flakes, parmesan cheese and garlic dip for the bread (which was really good as well). The service is always good but the wait is always long every time we go; pro tip: make a reservation before you go because you'll get right in. Each time I've visited, their food is fresh and delicious. So far I've had their: JAMBALAYA-which has andouille sausage, tasso ham, mello's spicy linguica, pulled chicken, shrimp, veggies and rice, simmered in a cajun-spiced tomato broth for $17.99. And BBQ MEATLOAF- which has grilled meatloaf made with beef, pork, smoked mozzarella, veggies and herbs, with a tangy bbq gravy, mashed potatoes and herb-roasted carrots for $15.99. These two are my favorites. I highly recommend checking it out. It's a cool and unique chain restaurant; first of its kind in this part of town. The husband and I had been meaning to try this place out for months and since we were out in Warwick for some New Years shopping, we figured we'd finally try it out. We got to Warwick a bit early so we hung out in our car for about 20 minutes before they opened but walked in as soon the clock hit 11:00. We were promptly greeted, seated, and handed menus. The decor inside was nicer than I thought (for some reason, I was imagining the inside of a Twin Peaks or something). Our server came along and got our drink and an appetizer started for us (cheesesteak egg rolls); the lemonade I ordered was more sour than I thought but I prefer that than it drowning in sugar. We didn't know that they served bread at this place so we happily ate the bread that came with a Parmesan cheese with butter and red pepper. Our egg rolls came in not long after and were pleasantly surprised how tasty (and very cheesy) they were! The bit of mustard it came with was good but wished it was a tad more on the spicy side. I ordered the sirloin tips with mashed potatoes and green beans while my husband got a blue cheese burger. My tips were cooked a perfect medium and the seasoning was decent. The mashed potatoes were okay but really could taste anything; the green beans were fresh and blanched just enough to be cooked through while having a bit of a crunch to them. My husband enjoyed his burger; it was cooked medium-rare with lots of fresh looking ingredients served on what looked like a brioche bun that looked tasty! I managed to finish the tips, green beans, and a few bites of the potatoes before I got super full; we made a mental note not to get an appetizer next time because that bread was good! Our server Abby was by far the best server I've had in a very long time. All of her suggestions were spot on and for this as well as the cocktails is the biggest reason to return. SHIT SHOW at (Soon to be out of business) Not Your Average Joes tonight 10/25/23. We wondered why there was no wait and the place was empty, when in the past there was always a decent wait for a table. It all made sense once we experienced the epic price gouging here. Not only did the prices go through the roof but the portions were downsized as well. So they are double dipping into your wallet. The 18.99 southwestern chicken salad had what equated to 3 McDonalds chicken nuggets on it. I asked the manager if she saw a problem with this and the response was that everything is portioned by weight. I asked what the portion weight is and the response was 7 oz. which I called BS. 3 chicken nuggets weighs in at 1.2 oz. So their 7 oz portion would equate 14 chicken nuggets. This means they are even lying about to portion weight. This place is a major league corporate rip off. Right next door is a local private owned and operated restaurant that does not play these shenanigans on their customers. Perhaps that is why all the people are waiting for tables over there instead of this place. read more

Very disappointed and will not be going back k after tonight. After a long day of work and driving took the family to grab a quick dinner. Service started out fine. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, kids ordered pasta and husband ordered meatloaf. Food came and I was so excited to dive in. Took a few bites only to realize the chicken was raw. I don't complain but raw chicken, that's a deal breaker. We informed our server. She said she would notify the chief but left the salad on the table. No update meanwhile family finished their food. They are done my food is still not out. Kids were tired so I asked for it be wrapped was shocked to see it still on the bill. Poor management. Wife and I came here for the first time and since it is a chain, we were expecting something Applebee-esque. Wife and I ordered appetizers (egg rolls), which we should not have done for lunch. They were absolutely amazing, but bread comes out to the table. Usually I skip bread to finish my meal, but it was great. The dipping sauce was a oil olive/cheese/red pepper mix that was addicting. The cheese steak egg rolls were pretty good, if I come back, I'll just order these for my lunch. They were cheesy, packed with meat and good. The blue cheese burger I ordered came out perfectly medium rare and I enjoyed the burger, nothing really revolutionary about it. However, they did put fresh sliced jalapeños on it for me which isn't listed. That was a nice touch and the waitress and staff are super friendly. Wife liked her steak tips. All in all, if you are looking for something in vicinity of malls and other shopping areas without mom and pop's but want something more than a Chili's, go here.
