Love the bar area and even the restsurant is set up nice. It's not dark in there but it's also not super bright, it's a nice ambience with low lights in a restaurant. Unfortunately the Jumbalaya I ordered tasted like it was made with pizza sauce....no exaggeration. There was maybe 4 pieces of kilbasa and sliced super thin. Besides that I was just so disappointed in the taste. Chinese chicken salad was good so I had a few bites of that. Bartender was great as was the staff who ran our food out. No issues there. Vibe is good, Big TVs for watching games. But, my review is for the tuna poke bowl ....$28 is too expensive. There are onions and mushrooms in the bowl. Who and why are their onions and mushrooms in a poke bowl?! There were more onions than tuna and they over-power the taste of the tuna. The mushrooms are mushy and don't fit. Snap peas are another unfortunate addition. There are plenty of other good looking dishes at NYAJ, but for a poke bowl go to Atlantic Poke. read more

I love them for the fresh foccacia bread dipped in the olive oil w pepper flakes, parmesean and herbs. The food selection is very comforting and tasty with good portions. My daughter had a burger and it was a big portion. The service was a lil slow but it was just my server but maybe just short staffed. The dining area is well lit with a view of the open kitchen. I've never felt the need to leave a review somewhere before, but I was really disappointed with my food and service tonight. I've been coming here for years, and it's really lost its appeal for me. We asked to sit outside, and even though there were a bunch of open tables we got sat right in front of the door with nothing to look at. People were brushing past us the whole night. On top of that our waitress seemed like she couldn't care less about us. Our party of three was there for 2 hours, purely because she kept forgetting about us. It went on so long at one point that I had to go inside to the host stand and ask them to send her over because it had been about 15 minutes since she had dropped off the dessert menu, and it was starting to get dark outside. It's a wednesday evening, it wasn't swamped. The food was also a let down, again, Ive been coming here for years and this is nothing like it used to be. My caesar wrap was not really a wrap, more so flat scratchy bread with mostly lettuce and hardly any chicken or dressing. The creme brûlée I had for dessert was burnt, and left such a bad taste in my mouth that I went home and brushed my teeth to get it out. Overall I'm just disappointed, we didn't enjoy our evening. I really enjoy eating out there. Food is good as is the atmosphere. Takeout is a much different. More often than not the order is wrong or something is left out. Most recent example was last night when I ordered the Meatloaf substituting the coleslaw for the carrots. I got neither the coleslaw or the carrots. I arrived a few minutes early to pick up the order then drove home which was less than 10 minutes. The food was cold and there was very l gravy. Also got a clam chowder which was also cold. I recently ordered food from Not Your Average Joe and was disappointed with the service I received. Upon arrival, the hostess did not personally hand me my order. Instead, she left it on the counter for me to pick up while she attended to adding another receipt to the bag. When she turned around, she instructed me to collect my order myself. This lack of personal touch and attention to customer service was surprising and did not meet my expectations. I hope that future visits will reflect a more customer-focused approach. read more

When they get it right, it's great. But when they get it wrong... I frequent this location for business meals. Sometimes, like today, I order meals to go home. This is the second time I've ordered Togo and the food was wrong by the time I got home an hour away. I ordered my son a kids chicken tender meal and when I got home it was all fish. Needless to say I had to go get food from another restaurant. Last time this happened I received 2 of the 5 meals were not anything we ordered. Very boujee, pretty restaurant with a ton of space. The bar is nice, surrounded by TVs however I get annoyed when bars don't buy NFL ticket. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I wanted a fruity mule instead of the original and he made sure I got a raspberry one that I really enjoyed. The menu has a variety of options. We got the whipped feta dip to start and it was absolutely amazing- a generous portion with different items to dip. My boyfriend got the Bratwurst special (for October fest) which he loved. I got the sirloin tips which were okay- the mashed potatoes were good and the steak was flavorful but a little chewy. We would definitely come back here and try more menu items! read more

Came here for a lunch with my toddler. While there was a small hiccup in the beginning it was quickly resolved and we were treated like the princess and queen we think we are. The bar manager Jake was so attentive to our needs and made sure we had everything we needed. My husband and I love coming here. The mustard crusted chicken and peanut butter thing are my favorites. The ginger beer gave it a little spiced kick, which I quite enjoy but understand it may not be for everyone when you order sangria. I also tried the butternut squash flatbread - seen here. UNBELIEVABLE! If you enjoy butternut squash / Brussels sprouts / pesto / balsamic / mozzarella....this is an absolute must. Best flatbread I have ever had. Stopped in for dinner after some shopping nearby. No wait and a nice booth. Reception was fine, but waiter was very short with us - he did the required, but was running from table to table. Had two apps - chicken dumplings - okay and the dipping sauce was fine. Pork nachos - would have been better if hot instead of room temperature. There was guacamole on the chips that was ice cold from the fridge, so hot chips and pork would make the app much better. Bowl of clam chowder - looked a bit too watery, not very thick. We suggested this to our nephew, who was relocating to Boston area for graduate school at Northeastern. Two Cobb salads were typical - I think both had chicken on the salad. I had a caprese chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Sandwich was good - thick grilled chicken, with lettuce, cilantro and guac. Place was okay for a dinner after shopping. Recently I visited the Not your Average Joe's location in Westwood. I am a big fan of this regional chain. Their menu is always varied and the service is usually very good. This last time I got their Korean BBQ wings appetizer. For about $15, I got 8 good size wings, they were all meaty and well seasoned...the wings were lightly fried in a crunchy batter and then tossed in a tangy sauce. I think calling this place "Way Below Average Joe's" would be an overstatement. I ordered the jambalaya thinking it would be tasty, given it's listed as a "special." What I got was quite possibly the worst dish I have ever ordered at any restaurant. They dumped canned tomatoes, mixed in some tasteless shrimp, chicken, and sausage, and tossed in some microwave rice. Bland, cold, and no seasoning whatsoever. Service was mediocre to boot. The restaurant has a cool vibe with plenty of TVs and good lighting. There is plenty of parking and it's located near a shopping plaza with everything you would need. The table comes with complimentary foccacia bread and addictive dipping sauce. Our server was attentive and service was very good. I live close by and try so hard to like this place. My wife likes it because it's bright with lots of glass. But the bartenders always seem uptight and generally not attentive. I was hosting a party of ten people with a variety of taste preferences. The manager placed us in a quiet spot so we didn't need to shout when talking to each other. We had one server for all of us. She did a great job balancing everyone's needs. She had assistance distributing our meals, which came out timely and accurate...and delicious. She also asked for her fries to be crispy. She received her order: or was definitely deli turkey and the fries were cold. She told the waitress, who took the fries back and asked if she wanted something else. She ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Fries came back hot, not crispy. Manager came over and explained distributor sent in deli as there was no fresh, apologized and said he would notify wait staff. That should have been done upon opening. It was open and they said it must have been because they were out of something I ordered. They said they'd put a rush order in and "take care of me" then gave me one free sandwich. They did indeed rush the order but once it came out from the kitchen it sat for several minutes before they brought it to me. Because it had been rushed the fries were barely cooked. Two weeks ago after several attempts they not produce a medium rare hamburger...the burger was consistently overcooked! Today our chicken caprese chicken sandwich had very dry chicken...the bread was not fresh and the sandwich lacked flavor (we had an appointment elsewhere so no time to return). Five years ago we had this same experience over several visits. We feel a need to take a hiatus and go elsewhere. Management should take notice to so that one day we can return! read more

The food here was extremely average, not at all deserving of the inflated price tags. For appetizers, I've tried the fried calamari, coconut shrimp, and the nacho average nachos. - The name for the nachos is cute and clever. The taste was great, but not at all worth $10.75. it was literally just a few chips drizzled in sauce and cheese, with a few sparse pieces of chicken and barely any avocado salsa present (see picture for reference). - The coconut shrimp was tasteless and not golden at all, more like an over-fried brown. Once again, for $12.50 I was not impressed. - The fried calamari is exactly what you'd expect so definitely not worth $14.25. I typically see fried calamari go for $8-$11 or so at other fine dining establishments. For the main course, I got the a spaghetti dish, forgot the name but a picture of it is attached - I think it's the spaghetti squash mushroom veggie bolognese. The flat pasta (pappardelle?) was really good, the texture and taste made it seem fresh and homemade which was a pleasant surprise! But the rest of the dish fell flat. Nice place for enjoying comfort food with family and friends. The bar and dining areas are kept very clean. There's indoor and outdoor service, but there's a serious lack of staff still, which causes customers to wait a while to be seated even though there are numerous tables open. The cocktails and food are well prepared and tasty. I had the Classic Margarita, a cup of New England clam chowder, a small pepperoni pizza, and an order of French fries to celebrate National French Fries Day ;-). Everything was brought out quickly and flavorful. Overall, I enjoy my visit, but the lack of servers and bartenders in the restaurant industry is very evident here; I hope that can be fixed soon. read more
