Took this course with Deanna as my instructor. Did not appreciate her tone or condescending ways of talking to us. I truly felt like I was in high school and being talked down to. Did not care for her ways of explaining things. Learned very little from her. What a waste of time and money! Took the booklet home and taught myself. Did I pass the first time in class? No. Would I suggest this company? Not a chance. The loan signing class was offered right after...my suggestion is do not try to take both at once even though you think that it would be a great idea. I paid for the on-line 6 hr course, but also decided to sit on on the class. I'm so glad I did. Regardless of the outcome of the exam (won't get the results for a couple weeks), I'm extremely grateful for the course and instructor especially (Drew Talton). Drew covered all the material, and the coursework and study guides had everything needed to prepare for the exam questions. I see some negative reviews here in regard to preparation, but honestly I feel like you will get out what you put in. The Notary material is not all that intuitive when it comes to fees and times for things - so in those areas it's really more just up to us to memorize. Drew gave a lot of great tips and tricks to help memorize those things and had some really good anecdotes and examples to share which was awesome. I also had to call the help center for more technical questions on the Notary package that I had purchased and they helped me answer my question right away in addition to helping me register for the exam, etc. Overall great experience so far, and I'm excited to become a Notary Public in the near future. Absolutely suck! I am so upset .... I always used notary classes.com On all my renewals and this time chose to go through these guys. NOTHING instructor went over in class was on exam. Everything he said disregard was on exam. Hardly used book and minimally went over anything. Complete waste of money and a day. I'm completely sick to my stomach. First time taking a Notary seminar and exam and this made the process SO easy. I am a law student who has also taken the bar exam and am awaiting my results so if you're an attorney thinking of becoming a notary public, this is a good option for you. The test wasn't a piece of cake but if you pay attention in class and take the time to study during lunch and the 1 hour or so break before the examiner comes, you'll be fine. REGISTRATION: Sign up online and buy the correct package. There is one for new notaries where it gives you the journal, stamp, insurance etc. and pays for 2 passport photos and livescan fingerprinting plus the class. You need all of these things to become a Notary Public, so you might as well pay for them all now. SEMINAR: They have a lot of different dates to choose from and locations in both Buena Park, Costa Mesa etc. so it's pretty convenient. You will need to carve out an entire day (8am-5pm) to get everything done. I had the seminar in Buena Park at a hotel and it did start on time. Get there early to get a good seat and begin the process of taking the pictures and being fingerprinted so you don't have to worry about doing it while the teacher is lecturing. The class is about 12-15 people and is completely mixed between age, gender and race. Although it says the class is 6 hours, it's really not a full 6 hours of lecture. There are some break time and self-study times so you're not listening to a guy lecture for a full 6 hours. They give you a booklet from the secretary of state as well as the handouts and information book to learn everything. The teacher goes over all you need to know including samples, examples, and scenarios to help you remember what to do. Being a Notary Public isn't hard - you're only verifying signatures of people but there is a lot of information you need to learn for the test. The teacher also gives you time to do these checkpoint quizzes and study during the lunch break and before the examiner comes. You get an hour for lunch so I suggest bringing your own lunch and studying during the lunch break. The teacher is also good at pointing out what you should memorize. For us, it was to focus on the penalty section including specifics of how much you have to pay if you're found guilty etc. WHAT TO BRING: Pay attention to their what to bring email and on the website. You need pencils to take the exam in, a $40 CHECK for the secretary of state, ID and I think there are some other things. Don't bother bringing your laptop because all notes can be taken in the book they give you. A highlighter would be helpful. They say to bring a printed application but they also give some out for those that forgot. The teacher walks through how to fill it out and some stuff is important, especially if you're employer is the one who is making you get certified. EXAM: The lady who administers the exam comes in right after class is over and checks your ID, takes your money and then you take the exam. It's 30 questions and you can leave whenever you want. I took about 40 minutes to take the entire thing and missed 3 questions total. You can miss 7 and still pass. Some of the questions are hard, some are easy...just try not to think too much when you're taking it to throw yourself off. When you're done you turn it in and wait for an mail from CPS HR to set up an account and then they'll email you your results about 15-20 days after you take the exam. Then, you have to wait for your background check to pass and the secretary of state will send you your certificate and I believe that is when you purchase your insurance (it's a bond, but you only pay like $50 or something for the full coverage) and then get your materials. Your license is good for 4 years before you have to renew. The 6 hour class is for people who are not renewing or people who are renewing but want the extra info so you don't have to take the 6 hour class when you renew. Overall - using the notary learning center made the entire process completely streamlined and I got everything done on the same day in the same place and didn't have to stress one bit. Oh, and I passed on the first try so that has to count for something! read more

If you want to sign up for a notary course, I'd recommend finding whatever is most convenient to your location. If it's through the National Notary Assoc (NNA), awesome, if it's Notary Learning Center (NLC), so be it. I took my original notary class with NNA and my renewal four years later with NLC. I also received my signing agent certification after a class with NLC. There is a reason a lot of companies like using NNA certified signing agents. I think overall they offer a better class for their new notaries and SA's. I felt better prepared going in for the exam. Also, when we did our NLC SA class, the class ran almost twice as long as it was scheduled for. NOT COOL!! We were there an hour and a half longer than we expected to be - that's not really fair. If you can't teach the course material in the given amount of time, the class needs to be scheduled during the day for a longer period of time, or you need to review how you use your time during the class. NLC has a generally less responsive customer service system as well. Their competitor makes it easy to contact, and they remedy and respond to any problems. Being a notary is a lot of fun for me - I love meeting new people, plus it's very important for my job because I work in a law firm that often needs notarizations. I'd recommend this certification to anyone interested because it's not a lot of initial expense to become one. And honestly, regardless of who you take your course through, I'd recommend thinking more seriously about getting your supplies and a membership with NLC's biggest competitor. Several years later and I'm still most happy with their products and service. read more

I've taken the Notary Learning Center's training and education twice. (my fault) Both times I left the testing really feeling like a failed and was excited when I passed. I live in North county and the 1st time it was convenient and in San Marcos. The 2nd time I had to go to Hotel Circle because they don't do North county on a weekend. Make sure when you received your Commission certificate that you file your bond ASAP. The first time I ordered all my supplies and stamps and waited for them to come in. You don't need the stamp to file your bond. I didn't file in time. The 2nd time I got my happy hiney down to the recorders office in San Marcos! I had the same trainer both times and am glad he was engaging and didn't make me fall asleep! I do want to take the Loan Signing class even though I've been in the industry for several years. I was frustrated when I called and the gal that answered the phone wasn't helpful, was too busy and wanted me to look online. I called back later since I couldn't find a class in North county online and whelp, I was still frustrated and not happy. If it hadn't been for her rudeness my rating would be a 5. ;-) That's all... Instructor is good but they decided to move locations last minute so they could get 40 people in the class. The Embassy suites hotel room in Glendale shacked for minutes at a time and multiple times because the hotel needed to do laundry. The shacking made it hard to concentrate and made me feel sick. They also allowed people to arrive 35 mins late which is unfair to others that were told you need to be on time or you can't take the class. read more

I took the class yesterday. The instructor was fine but not great. He seemed to be more interested in the am break and lunch break. We came back from lunch and he spoke maybe 45 min and then told us we could take an hr to study on out own. I felt he could have given more instruction for a 6 hr class. This definitely wasn't a 6 hr class or even close. He was very vague on a lot of his answers or examples. This was my 5th class for recommissioning and not my best. I feel a teacher should be very definite on answers. read more

I took the class today at the Santa Clara location. The instructor was Harris, and he was terrible. I would never recommend him. Bad attitude and really rude. My experience was very similar to a couple of reviews previously posted here - Here's why he didn't receive more stars: 1) he was all over the training booklet and it felt very rushed 2) if anybody asked a question, they were scolded 3) I was afraid to ask questions and consequently, some questions on the test were pretty confusing to me 4) he would jump from page 24 to 64, back to page 32, and then back to page 24 -- so while I was trying to find the page and "paragraph 3 sentence 2" I missed what he was talking about. But the atmosphere he created was not conducive to asking him to repeat anything, because he'd say "I already went over that earlier, REMEMBER?" There are a ton of class providers. I took the notary learning center course in Fresno, California, with the instructor name "Deanna". I passed the course, but I would NOT recommend this business to anyone. Do not order supplies from them ever! I mailed my certificate to them & it arrived a month ago according to tracking info. 2 weeks ago they sent me the forms I ordered so I figured Covid is slowing down their operations. I called & was told they didn't get my certificate, don't blame them because it's the mail's fault. I proceed to cancel my order & figure now I have to order a duplicate authorization form from the state. I first find my tracking info, call back & let them know it arrived a month ago, don't blame USPS. That made people start to move & now they were actually looking for the certificate. They sent me an email saying "the post office put a question mark on it for some reason so apparently it was set aside and they were to contact us to ask about your order but unfortunately it was overlooked" So basically oops we put it aside & forgot about it until you called. And in another email said I should have called earlier. The only reason I did not go through with the cancellation was I could not trust they would send me back my certificate & it would take a week plus to get another one. I will never use this co again. Their customer service of blame the USPS, then blame me for not calling earlier is the exact opposite of what customer service should be. read more

The course was okay. DO NOT ORDER SUPPLIES FROM THEM. I mailed in my certificate of authorization to the Des Moines, IA address immediately but was told they didn't receive it. It took me three months to get another one from the State Secretary because they had to verify this and that and I ended up sending a request three times to obtain one. The Notary L C office is an answering service in Upland California but the stamp maker is in Des Moines, IA. They instruct you to call them and you will be asked to send the certificate by priority mail which is unnecessary additional expense and time delay. I found out that you can go to many local UPS stores and get the stamp done the same day or next day and you can purchase supplies from them as well. It's been a terrible experience. read more

Took this class back in April 2018. Received my bond and rushed down to San Bernardino Hall of Records to file..... I was told I had to have an appointment which is 2 weeks out. I had to move mountains to get here today, only to be turned away. So disappointed since I was not informed of that small but very important detail in class. Which, according to these clerical people, I shud have been. On the same note however, San Bernardino County's website doesn't mention it either. read more

This business is great! I had absolutely no problems and everything was very smooth operating. I bought their class and basic supply package with a $15k bond to become a notary in California and the course was excellent. The instructor was very thorough and nice, even funny. The course was held in a nice hotel and I also was able to do my LiveScan and passport photo there. Then, once the course was done, we all took our exam and I passed it the first time. (I do recommend familiarizing yourself with the material before going into that class as it is a lot of information to remember). I passed with a 70 something percent and just barely scraped by, and this is coming from a woman in law school. It's just a lot of information to retain in a short period of time. Once I finally received my commission packet from the California Secretary of State's Office, I immediately emailed the Notary Learning Center and shipped them my original form to process my package of the notary journal, stamp, and bond as instructed. The next day I received a confirmation email saying it was shipped priority mail and within two days I received the package with all my items. There was not one flaw in the process. read more

I was lucky enough to take the class in Fresno on March 7th. The instructor was Deanna Crighton. She made learning fun, kept the entire class engaged and helped clarify some of the new laws. It was an advantage that she was also a working Notary Public in addition to teaching the class. I'm writing about two classes I took at the Quick Learning School on Gish RD in San Jose, CA on 3.11.17 taught by Harris Perles. The first class was the California Notary class and the exam right after. It started at 8-3.30p with registration at 7.30-8a and the State Proctors coming in at 3.30-5p for the exam. Without Mr Perles as our instructor, there's NO way I'd have done as well on exam as I think I did. He covered everything on the exam and explained in a way you could figure out the questions if you read them carefully. Then I took the next class after from 5.30p-8.30p. That was also an excellent class with actual documents you'd need for application to that field. Harris Perles is THE instructor I'd want again. He's very thorough and answers all of your questions, and still kept the information interesting. We even had one of "those" people in class. That knows everything about everything and in actuality knows nothing about what he's talking about. All the while, annoying the entire class. Mr Perles was great in diffusing him the best he could - still teaching the rest of us who wanted to learn. I'm definitely going to continue with your school, as you know exactly what people need to do to get their commission. Whether you are a first time or renewal notary public. 10 out of 5 stars is my rating and the most bang for your buck!! I took a class in Fresno this past Tuesday December 8, 2020 with Deanna. There was a guy coughing and coughing the entire class. He did not stop from morning until the end of the class. His coughing was brought to Deanna's attention but she did nothing at all. The entire class was a witness to this and seemed concerned as to why he was not asked to leave especially after signing the paper stating he did not have any flu like symptoms. He was sitting in the middle of the front row directly across from Deanna and she didn't have a mask on because she was instructing. He 150 percent displayed flu like systems but was not asked to leave the class by the instructor. The entire class was aware of this and it was such a distraction. Every time he coughed I cringed and lost my train of thoughts as it related to the notary training. Several people moved around in the room to avoid the germs. His coughing was such a distraction to the class that I could not concentrate and hope that I did not fail the class. I have been a notary nearly 17 years and have never failed my exam but as a direct result of this problem I could not concentrate and thought about getting up leaving several times. I had driven from Sacramento and was trying to avoid having to do retake the class. This was a public safety issue that affected everyone in that room and the instructor should have been more considerate of others health. And on that same day most of the people in the class had received an imminent emergency alert about covid 19. I am sadden that Deanna did not take make this guy leave for showing flu like symptoms which jeopardized the health of every person in that room! Why would she not ask him to leave for the safety of everyone else. read more

It's a nightmare. Really. If you're renewing your commission, then a course with the Notary Learning Center will be acceptable, maybe. You probably already have working knowledge and can afford to suffer the mediocre instruction. There is a real lack of organization, and the instructors are intolerant of questions and can't be bothered to do more than read the printed materials. You're going to be tempted to tear out the arteries in your wrist with your incisors. I've completed the course and was appalled at the amount of time it took the instructor to accomplish basic administrative tasks at the beginning of the class. Well over an hour was wasted with signing people in and finger-printing. The instructor made excuses at the end of the course about his inability to make it through the required material. Moreover, my instructor Harris constantly reminded people that any questions would preclude him from geting to key issues. There is no real attempt at instruction. The class is a vacant lecture. There are numerous youtube videos that you can watch if you happen to be cornered into a course with The Notary Learning Center. Don't pay for the signing course. It too is a vacant experience. It's a total waste of time. Youtube instructions and take an online course. Harris is all over the place. He's remembering that he forgot... and then arguing with folks about the details of his own hypothetical. And you're not actually going to have any hands on experience at all. The instructor is going to read the printed materials. That's it. The course is totally inadequate and fails to provide real, meaningful instruction. You may feel compelled to claw the eyes out of your own head. Nothing happens on time. Nothing. The class will not start on time. It will not end on time. The test will not be administered in a timely fashion. ineptitude is the soup of the day. Do yourself a favor and go with another vendor. Do it online. Don't waste your money, or, even worse, your finite life force. read more

I'll say my criticism first. I wish the class had more hands-on practice and maybe a tighter rein on questions. I am still nervous about performing my first notary act, but I guess that's normal. As a one-day test prep class, it was awesome, thanks to Harris, the teacher. He shared both his personal experience as a seasoned notary public and test taking strategies as someone who has been nearly perfect at taking the notary exam. The class followed the NLC study guide pretty closely for the most part. I got a digital copy after I registered for the class, but I didn't have time to study ahead. If you could master that guide beforehand, you'd probably have an easy time on the core material and can focus on the teacher's personal advice and tips. I went into the post-class exam with my head swimming; one-day crash course is not really my thing. I just hanged onto all the important points the teacher said, and came out with 97. Brittany L. said it well, "just try not to think too much when you're taking it to throw yourself off." The fingerprinting before class was also a great convenience. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to fill out the institutional part of of the fingerprinting form. The blank form from the Secretary of State's website was no help. The form I got before class had that portion conveniently filled. I got my commission today, exactly one month after my class and exam. The convenient fingerprinting probably helped. I just checked the NLC website and it seems like they are offering online and self-study classes now that also satisfy the mandatory training requirement. I don't know what that's about, but if you are a good study and good test taker, that might be enough. Nothing beats a good experienced mentor though. SIDE: The notary supply package you can buy from NLC are good; I haven't gotten mine yet. But I got a lot of ads in the mail for notary supplies even before I got my commission. The vendors find out somehow. read more

I went to the 6 hour class in San Diego, Hotel Circle. The instructor was really engaging and knew what he was talking about which made me feel at ease. My only gripe is he was too relaxed about some portions of the book. He barely touched on some subjects and made it seem like the exam was just "whatever". That was a huge eye opener. I took notes, color coded my book and all.Studied, took the practice tests, but because he seemed real relaxed about some parts, I didn't study those too much. The test was VERY strict and definitely touched on the stuff he didn't go into detail with. I feel like they try to trick you with the test, and I know that the tests change monthly so he didn't know what was or wasn't on the test, but for first time notaries, it should have been taken more seriously. I failed my first exam by 2 questions. I decided to not do the "reseat fee" to retake the course, instead I just studied on my own and I passed the 2nd time. read more

Just took my my notary class today. This is the second time in 8 years that I have used Notary Learning Center. Both times I had Harris as an instructor. Prior to that, I used National Notary Assocn. In addition to being less expensive, I preferred NLC over NNA. Harris is a great instructor. This is dry material, but he held my interest. He did a pretty good job of controlling the class. In between sections, he'd ask if we had any questions before proceeding. Nevertheless we had 2-3 students who kept interrupting with questions that, had they waited, would have been answered a minute later in the course materials. There always seems to be at least one person in class who believes everyone is interested in hearing their particular notary stories or who has a question about how they should handle certain scenarios. These people cut into instruction time and kill the rhythm and sequence of material being presented. After numerous and sometimes pointless interruptions by a few knuckleheads, Harris asked everyone to write down and hold questions until he asked if we had any questions; otherwise we'd never finish the material before the proctors arrived. Bravo. You were more patient than I, Harris. read more

I wanted to take some training in order to pass the test to become a Certified Signing Agent. I shopped around, and it looked like NLC was less expensive than some other companies, so I took the plunge for $120. What a huge waste of money!!! The written materials are basic, redundant and completely NOT useful for taking their test. You have to get a 90% (out of 100 questions) to pass their exam, which I found extremely difficult and technical. (I am also a lawyer, so I am used to taking difficult tests such as the bar exam.) I took the test after studying their material (which has such basic advice as "you should get a printer," and "you should have a fax #") and realized that I needed to search the internet for the answer to every single question. (It's an open book test, so that's allowed.) Even with that effort, I only scored 76 on their test. When I asked for a refund of my money, they said that no refunds would be offered to a customer who had already received their confirmation email, with the pass code for taking the exam. I even offered to mail back their useless paper material in the 3-ring binder. Still, the answer was "no." Have you ever heard of a company adopting such a hard-line position where they would do NOTHING to appease a dissatisfied customer??? I guess I got what I paid for. I am now going to use NNA's online training and exam. The cost is $179, but they have a 30-day satisfaction guaranteed policy.
